Politics / Re: BON Must Be Regretting Their Decision Now by asshunter(m): 7:49pm On Feb 13, 2013
maasoap: Every man is inclined to be indisciplined or corrupt, and that's why govts all over the have various institutions to check people's desire to cut corners or do d they way want.

The society is a collection of families! A failed society is as a result of bankruptcy in family values.

maasoap: In Nigeria today, people like u are able to use mercenary to pass exams because institutions that are supposed to punish you and d likes have failed.

You don't know me. So, I will take your assumption as tantrums as a result of an over rated ego.

naptu2:

Point of correction. BON negotiated on behalf of itself. When a dispute arose, the Federal Government offered to step in and pay the balance, but BON told government not to intervene because it would set a bad precedent.

Jijiwa was quite explicit.

thanks.

naptu2: In the old days we had problems with live broadcast of matches (even within Nigeria). This was because it was seen as a public service.

During Nigeria 1980 there were slow motion replays, multi-camera coverage and outside broadcast vans. By 1985 most of these things had vanished.

Furthermore, with the devaluation of the naira, it was becoming increasingly difficult for NTA and FRCN to pay for broadcast rights of international events.

The private sector stepped in. Degue Broadcast Networks (DBN) got the rights for either China '85 or Los Angeles '84 (I can't remember which), sourced for sponsors and made a lot of money for the NTA. This led to an explosion of rights marketing companies, such as OSMI, DBN (before it became a television station), etc (Segun Odegbami even owned one of such companies back in the day).

However, with the political and economic crises of the 1990s it became even more difficult to buy rights. That's where BON became crucial.

Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria was initially formed in 1973 (because of the All Africa Games). At that time the broadcast industry was limited to government stations. However, after the All Africa Games it went comatose and was virtually dead until 1987 when Tony Momoh revived it (& this was the year I started following the activities of the organisation). It was virtually a government parastatal at this time, because both FRCN and NTA are government parastatals. However, with the enactment of the new broadcast decree in 1992 and the beginning of private broadcasting in 1994, priavte stations also joined BON. In fact, Raymond Dokpesi was co-chairman in 2001.

Broadcast companies decided to pull their resources together to bid for rights (each company will pay some money towards the acquisition of the rights), while the marketing companies (OSMI, etc) source for sponsors/advertisers.

When BON and LC2 could not reach an agreement, the government decided to step in and pay the balance, but BON told government not to interfere, because if they pay the high fees now, then they'll have to keep paying high fees in future.

Thanks a million.

Wadeoye: I will not vote for any tickect with a Igbo man on it. Igbos are not civilized enough to occupy Aso Rock even in the capacity of VP.

Do u want us to derail this thread.
Cos my blood dey boil here o!

Derail the thread?
Somebody said that instead of Mr. President to fight Boko Haram who are trying to seize the country from him, I simply opined that Boko Haram issue must not be used as an excuse to assassinate the character of the President. That anybody who has been in this country for a while, know that the butchery industry of the North in the name of Allah, Mohammed and Islam is not new. That it did not start with Jonathan and neither will it stop with him. If you are afraid the thread is being the derailed, please talk to the guy who brought up Boko Haram here.

As for your blood boiling....

Em, Benji! Benji!!, please, get me a bucket of cold water fast, add some ice in it. There is an emergency, somebody's blood is boiling.
Just chill, I will cool you off soon.

Kobojunkie:

UUmm . . . . I can post another interview probably someone else that will probably say otherwise and maybe convince you otherwise. If you have not noticed, everyone seems to have a view on what is going on but none of them seems to have a firm idea of what is going on and none seems to have themselves been working on making things better but most all are quick to tell us what the future of the nation will be. But I commented on YOUR opinion, not on the MALLAM's opinion. I think you are just trying to make a mountain out of a molehill now. The Mallam did not make the claims above, you did, and I responded appropriately.good for you!
He had to leave Aso Rock since he was no longer President. That is usually what follows the deposing of a President. How you came to make that mean that he RAN away beats me. The same Obasanjo that is in engineering things still in the back? WOW . . if this is what you tell yourself to make it all seem ok, cool!Andy Ubasanjo?Pressures? Yes, I remember that whole exercise to help ensure that Yar adua remained President till the end, which was exactly what the whole was about and happened anyways. How that is a victory beats me!Yes, the violence of kidnappers and terrorists that the area are still enjoying to this day. I am certain those who have lost their lives since must be happy . . . cheesy

Docility is about IBB? WOW!! Nevermind that Jonathan is going to give Obasanjo, yes the very same, his 15 years and more of high relevance? You must be a great visionary!
Sure it is!

I get your drift.

Perhaps, I will need to digress a bit for you to understand. There is some great divides in Nigeria today.
1. The ethnic divide
2. Religious divide
3. Intellectual divide

Those who are using nos 1 and 2 are the real trouble makers in Nigeria.
The interview shows that the no 3 divide is real and it is spread across Nigeria. For example, some years ago, many an Igbo man will jump at Ojukwu's choice of candidates but that is not so today. Also, the interview has revealed that likewise in the north, the era of consensus opinion is past.

Your posting an interview with a different view point wont be a surprise, but I am excited that there are people in the North breaking away form the hold of on the myth called "one" north.

As for IBB, the guy ran away from Aso Rock. Did you say his tenure ended? IBB had no tenure. He wanted to be there forever after he stole power by the help of gun. IBB was to handover of a 27th of August, he ran away on the 26th.

Is the kidnapping not a proof that Nigerians are not docile?

Do you mean that Jonathan will hand over to OBJ if he wins the election or that he will hand over to OBJ after his tenure?
Or do you mean that OBJ is the one in charge of Aso Rock while Jonathan is a puppet?

I don't know o, but I have this sick feeling that you don't reside in Nigeria!
