Hi,

I have found buyers for your palm oil. They need 10,000 metric ton per month for the next twelve months and i need your price urgently. If you can deliver then i do not mind investing in your business. I need to know whether you can deliver the quantity requested.

Seun, is there a way i can disclose my private email to bembella without disclosing it on the forum?

thanks

how much of it do you have. Although I am not interested in buying, there may be some international organisation that use it for in their products. I will put feellers out and come back to on this forum. monday is a public holiday here in england.

1. you can never go wrong with real estate, i have dabbled into it here and there. two reasons (A) You get rental income, (B) the value of you property will always go up on the long run. Use financing to stretch your money or mortgage

2, stock market

3, bond

4. divide the money into two- leave half in stocks and trade with the rest
Business / Re: Mobile Phone Retailers In Lagos? by avocat(m): 7:56pm On May 27, 2006
dont let anyone fool you, unless you are getting the phones from Dubai or China, you will end up selling them at a loss.

the ones from china are cheap and never original, sometimes reconditioned

the ones from Dubai are fake that never last more than two months. Dubai ones are always brand new.

be careful in bringing phones to nigeria if do not have connection with the nigerian customs.

i live in the uk and i can tell you this for free, nigerian community are more dispersed in america. in the uk they are more concentrated. Nigerian in the Uk brag about themselves. in the US they are so dispersed and disunited that they need nigerian descendant party to bring them together. Can someone explain what nigerian descendant party is all about in the US?

i prefer the UK tea and biscuit to the US coke and hamburger. the pace of live is slower in the UK than in the US. but i have to add that if you have never lived in either country you may not know the difference.

just to correct an error made by someone earlier, the British medical system is such that if you urgently need to see a specialist, you can travel to Germany and see the doctor or specialist and you send the bill to the UK Health system. You cannot do that in the US.
Business / Re: I Have N15,000 To Invest. How Do I Go About It? by avocat(m): 10:39pm On May 25, 2006
there is a lot you can do with N15000.00 in Nigeria. I shall list a number of things you can do in Nigeria.

(1) Prepare and sell suya outside your house in Nigeria- ( i have tried it before, I made some money from it.)

(2) Prepare and Sell akara and dundun - (there was this woman in Ondo town that built several building just selling akara and dundun every night. Before i left Nigeria, she was still selling them

(3) Use to bribe someone to give you a job at tin can island in Lagos. There is always vacancy for hard working men

(4) Use the money to buy stamps and envelopes and send your CV to all major marketing companies in Nigeria

(5) Use the money to buy paint and brush and do some modern art- put in a frame and sell them - I have tried this when i was doing my NYSC. I made money out of this. People will buy them just to help you. The money you make you can then do whatever you want with it.

(6) , some other time eh !

If it is any encouragement to anyone out there, during my NYSC year, I was doing three jobs at the same time, while some of my friends were complaining that there was no job. I was assigned to a local goverment, which i shall not mention. I struck a deal with the chairman of the local govt and he told me that i did not have to come to work (actually, he told me not to come because the politics was too much for me) but he will pay my alawee.

2ndly i was a teacher in a school teaching economics three days a week. I went to the nearest town and told some business men that i would run their errand for some money. they agreed (what they paid me was little for the errand but money always add up.

3rdly i observed that the local people made baskets from palm tree leaves, so i bought some baskets, painted them and took them to lagos. I sold them all. I did all of these feats and more in my NYSC year that i was able to spend my spare time travelling around nigeria. There many risks, especially travelling in what was called night bus all the time (in order to return the monday morning to teach at the local school). When i started, my friends were laughing at me. Now I am laughing all the way to the bank.

When I got fed up with doing busness in Nigeria, i travelled to the UK. You do not have to believe me.

i hope this is useful to someone out there. If you believe that the glass is half full you will make it. If you believe that the glass is half empty and you blame everybody else then you are doomed to failure.

Architectural Firm- Industrial

Hello everyone,

A friend of mine is looking for a reputable architectural firm in Nigeria. He is looking to do some industrial construction in Nigeria (not residential building). Does anyone know any firm with a reputation for excellent design. I mean the big names in Nigeria. not the fly by night firms. (I would prefer if you supplied the websites so that i can pass them to him and he can check them out first before contacting them).

thanks y' all.

Business / Re: Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp) by avocat(m): 12:08am On May 18, 2006
you have a point there but consider this nigeria is the most populous african country on earth, if we nairaland citizens all invest a little into this company, we can determine and control the destiny of Africa and create much needed jobs.
Business / Re: Nigerian Companies And Email Queries by avocat(m): 3:16am On May 17, 2006
i have often wondered myself why i never get email response to enquires i made to companies in nigeria or request for information in nigeria. I remember vividly one company who replied to my email three months after i requested for information and they apologised saying that they did not check their email messages recently. i did bother with them after that.

my experience with other companies include the email bouncing back or not delivered etc etc.

the ones that really gets me annoyed are nigerian government organisations that do not respond to their email.
Business / Re: Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp) by avocat(m): 2:30am On May 17, 2006
i disagree with you totally on the points you have raised. This project is bound to succeed for the following reasons:

1. To create jobs on a large scale you need investment. to partner with a successful investor from anywhere you need to have capital. This company is now in a position to compete for contracts internationally and bring the contract to Nigeria just like India is doing by bringing all IT jobs and call centre jobs from america and Europe to India. to bid for these international business you must have a big capital base. Transcorp is the first of its kind in subsaharan region. Whether it gets these kind of contract is yet to be seen.

2. China is currently the biggest industrialised nation on the earth at the moment. they do not like to sell the products in retail. they like wholesale buyers and they even lower the price further for mega companies that can in turn supply a whole sub region. Transcorp can actually negotiate a good price for good from china and supply the whole of subsaharan africa region of all products from china. it make sense.

3. How did the computer revolution take off in America and Europe. It was through the collaboration of big companies and their home governments. There is need for a huge capital base to compete internationally. My main concern is that when this company begins to do well, the shareholders then decide to sell to foreign investors.

4. foreign companies are lending african nations money in the guise of aid. if transcorp becomes strong enough it can come to the rescue of struggling african nations instead of selfish foreign aids.

There is potential with this company. I tried to buy some of the shares, but I figured that it was too expensive. I was also told that it was being marketed to banks and finance houses. this is a good idea because the banks will demand return on their investment.

lets give this company time (say five years) before we start knocking it.

love y all
Career / Re: Unemployment in Nigeria by avocat(m): 4:46pm On May 16, 2006
well said ijebu man.

i have some practical idea for those who want to earn money. the key to making money it to provide a service or to find a solution to someone's problem. they may include:

1. offer to clean windows to people's houses (there is a huge market)
2. find out what some businesses buy on a regular basis and offer to provide it to them on a regular basis
3. list all the skills you have on a sheet of paper and list the practical ways you can make use of them for money by yuorself
4. offer a service to a church such as printing their hymns on a regular basis for a fee
5. draw the map of all local governments in your area and publish it
6. look at businesses around where you live and develop improvement for them and offer it for a fee
7. start a newsagent around your areas (selling newspapers only)
8 start a taxi business
9. Start a tourist agency- register with hotels in victoria island and take tourist and visitors on a guided tour
10. offer to clean peoples houses for a fee.
11. offer to wash peoples feet at a major bus stop
12. offer to teach people how to use the internet privately
13. train to be a plumber (its manual but you can never go hungry)
14. train to be a bricklayer (its manual but you can never go hungry )
16.

how can you say that this worse than military regime? i disagree with you. things have really improved in nigeria in the last eight years. many people below the age of 20 do not have any idea of what it was like to live under military rule. i find that many people are just spreading false rumour for their own personal agendas, including third term. why not let the politicians do their job. eh! i beg.

Business / Re: Way Forward for Nigeria: Construction of Refineries by avocat(m): 11:08pm On Oct 10, 2005
hi everyone, i was away on business for some weeks. i was wondering, the oil refineries seem to be in the hands of the heavy weights, we are focusing too much on the refineries and becoming blind to the solutions of other problems. what if we installed about 100,000 or more solar panels in the northern part of nigeria and then sell the electricity produced to NEPA and neighbouring countries around nigeria. the idea is that NEPA will not have any more excuse because when the nepa grids are overloaded, the demand can be met by the solar panels reserve (night and day). It is far cheaper to set up these solar panels than to produce and refine oil. Solving the electricity problem will automatically solve the water pump problem (shortage). If this project is successful, it would mean that big companies and businesses will spend less on diesel for their generators and therefore no need to pass on, to the consumers, the additional cost of generating electricty power privately. this will create jobs and boost the economy.

if there are technical guys in the house, please make your criticisms and suggestion known.

buffy,

the event that happened to me in lagos at that time was an isolated incident. i now regularly visit nigeria. i even arrange for private limo to pick me up from the airport to victoria island. I am told that the happiest people on earth live in nigeria. their happiness is contagious (and it has nothing to do with money). If you know any unhappy person anywhere on earth, please recommend that they visit nigeria.
Business / Re: Way Forward for Nigeria: Construction of Refineries by avocat(m): 12:30am On Sep 12, 2005
dear members of nairaland,
i have a few practical ideas that can bring the oil refinery to life from the few members of the nairaland users. To finance and bring a refinery to nigeria it's very easily done. These are the steps we must take, asssuming the refinery cost $300million. Please do not be afraid of the sum of money in question because the oil refinery can earn more than $20million per day. work out the mathematics. it will not take long to repay any financing in question. These are the steps:

1. decide what you what to use the refinery to do. Let us assume that it will crack(produce) just petrol, deisel oil and kerosene alone. This is the fuel that flies aeroplanes and run motor cars.
2. create a limited liability company that will buy the refinery with just the members of nairaland (we will then float this company on the stock market and the initial members of the limited liability company can sell their shares and make huge money without refining one drop of oil)
3. create a website to publise the company and invite peopel to subscribe to shares
3. Locate where a refinery is located and make a proposal to puchase - i have these contacts
4. Approach financiers around the world to finance the deal (we may need to raise- such as half a million dollars an amount to show our sincerety and secure the leverage ) - (from my experience - they will be all too happy to do so)
5. Obtain licence to run the refinery in nigeria - (this is the hard part - if any nairaland member has influnence or contact to secure the refinery licence then we are home and dry. you have to grease palms of officials as you know)
6. All we are doing is refining oil and no more
7. We need agreement of the nigerian government and oil companies to refine its oil with us

As a matter of fact. I am aware of a oil refinery that i and my friends wanted to bring to nigeria a few years ago. the attempt did not succeed. we were unable to secure the licence.

To avoid anyone being scammed or cheated. No subscriber or member of nairaland will collect any money from anyone. Once the nigeria company has been formed An escrow account is opened with a reputable bank in nigeria with eg five hundred naira. the members who wish to invest in the private company, will deposit money into this account and they will receive receipt from the bank. The percentage of their contribution will determine their shares and level of voting rights. No one can touch this money until all the agreements and licences have been achieved. Once all agreements and licences are reached. The bank will issue share certificate to the depositors. The bank will undertake to return all deposits to all depositors if nigerian government refuse to grant a refinery licence or if we are unable to secure agreements from oil companies to refine their crude oil within a reasonable time such as six months from the date of the licence. Once the company goes public you can decide to sell your shares and reap a good return on your investment.

to raise half a million dollars, all it takes is 6000 people investing N10,000 or more. This project is not something one person can do alone. We have to first appoint promoters from among us and directors who have relevant experience and contacts in the oil industry. (lets me not talk(write) to much.)
