I asked why you care cause you seem to put so much weight in wanting to know if I lean towards the right and yet again I see you asking if @Jesoul leans towards the right. Anywho, I believe the reason is cause the logic behind the questions is warped and so I instead thought it best to leave the person to his/her beliefs rather than spend my own time trying to help the person understand why and how it is warped thinking.

Okay in other words you can't answer them. Logic warped just because you say so. Show the fallacy in the logic.

Yeah i asked Jeseoul, at the last count u were not Jeseoul or are you?

We are having a debate here if can't refute arguements then i guess its obvious where the intellectual laziness lies.

Bristol’s pregnancy says nothing about Sarah Palin’s suitability to be the next vice-president. cool

Congratulations!!!

Agreed, the pregnancy in itself does not.

But her policies do and if theres very clear evidence that one of her very strong policies fails in her house, why should she be allowed to spread that failure to the nation. Allowed if possible to contribute opinions that would appoint supreme court judges, that would turn Roe vs Wade. She is not suitable if we can see from her own home that the ideology doesnt work.

This was quite early enough in the debate so i dont get the "tired of trying", anyway if thats the way you feel. And why do i care, I really dont, its a debate if u choose to answer or not, will not give me a pass to the federal reserve. I just saw this thread and scanned through and noticed that no one answerd those questions.

In addition Jeseoul pls if u lean towards the right, pls can u respond to the question.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Daughter Of John McCain's Running Mate Pregnant: So What? by away4real(m): 8:13pm On Sep 03, 2008
In my opinion it matters that Palins daughter is pregnant. The reason(s) as others have stated in here is that it is a clear testimony that her policies dont work. The policies has failed right in her home.

So what policies as a nation should the government follow. If Palin refuses to acknowledge that children will on the average not listen to their parents, and that they shouldnt know the alternatives no adequate preparation to prepare them, i do not pity her, in short i hope the younger daughter is not pregnant already.lol.

If she is agaist teaching sex education in school, then fair play she got what she deserves. A parent should enlighten their kids to all the options, the decision is for the child to make, but at least when or if they decided to err, they know theres something called a condom that can protect them or the other options available.

All this pro life debate and republican arguements is all intellectual laziness and in my opinion could be linked to bigotry and hypocrisy.

@ Kobo, how come i didnt see your response to this post from Sean in the first page. I would like to see how you respond to this, am assuming you lean towards the right or towards replubican ideology so please can u respond to this.

If my assumption is wrong, ie you don't lean towards the right, then in your opinion how can this be explained.

I watched the RNC convention ystday and little mention of the economic crises, its all talk about the past, like a valedetory convention of a man that we are supposed to believe spent his life in service which service??. Yeah he is a war hero thank you sir, is that all?

Geez what about the future. Even watched a war movies thriller.lol. Must it be all about war with the Republicans?

Jesus Christ. Why are you getting God involved?

Its simple, The republicans do not practice what they preach.

1. The Republicans are Pro- Life yet they support the war.
2. They say they do not want the government to be involved in People lives but yet enforce the patriot act.
3. They accuse Dem's of being spendthrifts but yet cause the country to be bankrupt.
4. They support the wealthy by cutting taxes on the rich
5. They believe in freedom but yet try to push the Christian beliefs on everyone. What ever happen to Religion being left out of politics. Didn't Jesus say "“Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s”

Is this the party you favor KOBO?

In addition i would appreciate comments from forum members on Electronic import business in Nigeria. The ups and downs and what i need to know.

Thank you.

KarmaMod:

Lmao some people are pathetic. All this on top of ATM fees.

YOU were implying that ATM fees is a Naija thing done to defraud people, all I did was try to let you know that it's done in places outside Naija as well. Isnt the US considered "aboard" again? Ode.

Who the hell cares if you meant UK. You should have said UK instead of "aboard".

Btw, I have friends who have bank with Barclays in the UK with the simpliest package and they complain about the charges placed on their accounts. Might be different for other banks there, don't know/don't care. when it comes to other countries, I go by those who actually live there to experience these things

Instead for you to apologize for claiming that I'm a liar despite that fact that not only did I proved that withdrawal fees are placed on ATMS in the states aka "aboard" but Davidylan also said the same. You're busy running that your mouth yarning dust upon dust. You sound like a sad bitter person

What logic is in this thread? Abeg be quiet and just stop embarrassing yourself. Oponu oshi

Keep to the issues. Its not my fault your assertions are illogical.

Again a clear problem of Logic, where did i suggest defraud and your suggestion of Barclays bank is so erronous u have no details. Which charges are u talking about?

KarmaMod:

In the UK, they take money from your account monthly/yearly

I think I'll stick to withdrawl fees thanks.

I even thought say we dey talk betta country sef grin

You are a liar, your quote above is a lie.

All this on top ATM charges cos thats the topic, Mr. Happy. grin

I mean the statement in bold just sums it up, see why i said u should stick to facts. You make a statement on what u don't know.

Thats just a lie no one takes money from your account monthly. You subscribe to various packages if u want if u don't want u run your account normally.

Perhaps u think u are living in Heaven  grin, please make sure u die there. grin

NB: I didnt say i lived in the UK, i said i am not charged so figure it out.

Geez the kind of logic i read here, one wonders the kind of education some get in the West.

Are you people drunk?

I live in The States. Why would I lie?

For example, Try using a HSBC card at a Chase ATM and see if you wont be charged a withdrawal fee. Are you serious?

Infact not only would the Chase ATM charge you, HSBC would also charge you for not using a HSBC ATM, so that's two charges for using an "outside" ATM.

Alot of banks are like this cept for a few like Wamu that don't charge when you use atms of different banks. The catch of course is that these banks that don't charge you are usually not as popular/don't have that many branches.

Drunk ?? Maybe you are.

In the UK i am not charged for using any ATM machine, including those operated by the large retail outlets. The only ATM's that charge are the private ones as stated earlier.

If you pay in the states and you are charged perhaps you should state that as your facts.

davidylan:

The facts are simple - you pay bank charges if you use a card to withdraw from an ATM belonging to other banks. Usually between $1.75 and $2.
Its the reason i try as much as possible to always use my banks ATM.

Its funny how clueless people sit in Lagos telling someone who lives here to get facts right! grin

Guy perhaps people are not as clueless as you think, you should understand an arguement before making hasty generalization.
Business / Re: ATM Withdrawal Charges by away4real(m): 9:06am On Jul 22, 2008
KarmaMod:

Banks aboard charge you for withdrawing from ATMs as well.Only wya you can avoid such charges is if you use the ATM of YOUR bank. It has to have your bank logo. Like Chase account holders don't get charged for using Chase ATMs anywhere they go. They should do that in Nigeria

and I'd rather be charged for taking money out than have some bloody bank take money from my account every month for no reason. Thankfully my bank doesnt do that nonsense

That is just a lie. Except u are using an ATM inside a pub, which is not run by a bank anyway.

Please get the facts right.

And for those people that criticize banks for charging,be realistic. It is a business afterall.Banking services are not free.If you don't like it,keep your money at home, and when you need to send money to someone, travel all the way to deliver it.  .  .or trust them postal services.
If you're ready to accept charges, find a bank whoz charges you're comfy with and pay up. Enuff of the critique already. Its not by force to use a bank.

Tutheworld:

we should all know that one of the reasons why anyone would set-up a biz is to make money/profit,and ATMrs are not acquired for free,so let this justify any bank that charges on any ATm withdrawal you make.

Absolute rubbish. Are the banking halls acquired for free. The question is why introduce the ATM in the first place? Charging for using ATM is another sad story of our distorted environment.

The whole idea of the ATM is to reduce the crowds in the banking hall thereby reducing operational cost ( concept of 24 hours banking) from having large personnel in cash and tellers and more importantly reducing shortages and overpayments.

One would think that the retarded bankers would offer incentives to people who use ATM's such as no COT on ATM withdrawals rather than punishing them, that way u are guaranteed of cost savings.

The activities of banking hall can then be directed to customer service, and operating skeletal cash and tellers maybe concentrating on deposit taking, though another strategic area should be introducing ATM's that take deposits.

I am sure all their overpriced products is as a result of them not being used to thie same level of taxation that applies here in the UK. They are only transfering it to the consumer.

Maybe their target market are Nigerian politicians who need to stash money away abroad.

I hope all these banks won't soon be found out to be flouting the rules of practice that apply here.

That has already started happening. UBA New York has already been fine $15 million for not reporting a suspicious transaction by the US authorities. its just the reputation for Nigeria that is going to be sad.

The movie will play out itself.

@ Ess & madamkoko,

We need a lot of logic and secular rationality in our nation.

Madam koko I disagree that Nigerians don't pray so hard, i personally believe that things would have been worse if not for the prayers of the saints, my point is that using our closeness to God as a basis of our prosperity of other wise is a wrong premise. Collectively its proper socio-political, macro economic structures that will lift us up.

As a people we are not serious (irrespective of our religion), i agree with Ess in that its not God that will gove us constant power supply, a proper educational system, functional military and security establishments and a well functioning government.

My arguement is that we need to get serious period and not look to God for things we should be doing for ourselves.

However, i am still unapologetically biased because God is real and Jesus actually died for my sins. I am what i am by his grace, he is my source and reason of my existance. Jesus is my lord. He has blessed me in no small measure, i am a benefactor of his grace so really i recognise and believe in miracles .

donnie:

@madam KOKO
Continue deceiving yourself, when you are tired you will go and sleep.

That the church in nigeria is strong and influential is not the work of man but of God.

Somebody called the church the unsung hero. Because they are the salt of the earth, they are the ones who will avert 'natural'

disasters and wars on their knees in the name of Jesus yet uninformed people like you will think it is a result of good deliberation and planning.

If you are not aware, this nation will not be together today and somewhat safe but for the prayers, giving, tithing and confessions of the saints.

You compare Nigeria with America? You want God to visit our nation with war, tornadoes and earthquakes like he does the rest of the world before you

remember he exists and should be revered hun?

Take Christ Embassy for instance, they set they pace in whatever the set their hands to do and the people and the people follow. Is it the media, print,

TV, satelite, internet, they employ the latest kind of technology and the world cannot help but follow and this has even made them the envy of older TV

stations.

They buy up failing TV stations and bring life back into them and they become number one in the country. That is the excellent spirit at work my dear.

If it is print media they are number one and the rest of the people learn and follow, they employ the kind of excellence that will make you marvel.

They own institutions (inner-city) where children are taken off the streets and sent to. They are fed, clothed, accommodated and given sound education

free of charge. Prostitutes, drug addicts are given new lives. They are fed, clothed and accommodated, and made to live normal lives.

That is why they call for meetings and millions gather, the kind of crowds that even the president or any performing artist cannot dream of gathering.

How wouldnt the people follow someone who is concerned about their well being.

The best schools in the country today are owned by the churches (Winners chapel, RCCG, Church of God mission, Roman catholic church and so on).

The sick, Dwarfs, widows and the rejected of government and society now have hope because of men like TB Josuah.

Righteousness is preached and the fear of God is instilled in the people and rather than give thanks to God, you come and spew out this rubbish.

If you have been trampled upon by Christianity that is your problem, you most likely were in their way.

@ donnie i totally agree that God is at work in our churches (Nigeria and else where) whereever his name is called and 2 or 3 are gathered in his name, so lets put that to rest.

Implying that because tornadoes happen in America and hence God is absent there and because its not in Nigeria God is present is a misguided statement. Most of the reknowned christain leaders are from America, Kenneth Copeland, TD Jakes, Creflo Dollar, KC Price, Benny Hinn, i could go on and on. The prevalence of natural disasters has a lot to do with location, if not perhaps we should be expereincing winter in Nigeria. We should be thankful that we are located where we are based on the way we run our society, if not?? heavens forbid what it would have been like imagine the response if there was a disaster.

That you can make such an arguement about the churchs influence is a result of the failed state Nigeria and irresponsible leadership and followership.

1. You talked about TV stations and internet, am proud of Love World TV and all other christain broadcasting stations but please compare them to NTA, AIT and you are a star. Other Global organisations operate excellence as a result of business neccesity & competition, BBC, CNN, Sky sports, movies and all am not sure u can call these guys sub-standard so lets rest on that.

2. That Winners, RCCG own universities that may be better that some state or federal Univeristy (depending on the basis of comparison) is extremely sad and we should be weeping. Pray tell Research is founded by the govt in properly run societies, oxford, Cambridge, Bristol, Standford, Yale, Havard are heavily funded govt institutions. I don't think currently or in the near future u can compare these institutions with Convenant or redeem University.

3. That we lack any form of social security, no job seekers allowance, medi care, council housing and all and hence the churches have decided to be a safety net is another misnormal. The responsilbilty of the state is to provide collectively the things that we can't individually provide for our selves and depending on the economic rational provide a degree of social security to ensure a safe and stable society.

4. That we are so religious (don't like using that word) is good but lets try and identify the motivation, is it as a result of love for God or an economic plan to escape hardship. Whatever it is am grateful and pray earnestly that we transfer the light into the larger society as that is currently lacking. We hear of christains stealing and giving to church thats not the testimony we want to hear. Is it?

I have meet christains in the west that i marvel. Their main motivation is to love and serve God. You hardly hear so much about my God shall supply all your needs, Give and it shall be given and all. People tithe and give from their heart not necessarily (though its a promise) because they expect something back.

We call crusades all the sick and all come in and they receive their healings i bless God, but perhaps its also time that we invested in proper health care and research to reduce the cases.

I went to a friends church in the UK and the pastor was giving account to the congregation, tithes collected, offering and what it was used for including whatever charity donations i was amazed, if i ask my MOG what he would think of me. Accountability should also be extended to the church.

Am born again as well but lets not mix up issues, the Nigerian state is failing thats why u can make such arguements.

Some of those charges make me wonder if their target market is the Nigerians/Africans in the UK. They are definitely not cheaper than UK banks.

As regards the £50 charge for issuing a bank card, it's simply not attractive at all. I have never paid a dime for bank cards and I can get up to 5 free replacements in a year.

As regards the £100 per annum for current accounts, not bad at £8.95/ month. Most UK banks charge pretty much the same amount or more monthly for current account. 1 or 2 banks throw in free annual travel insurance or other extras as an attraction.

@ seyi £100 pounds not bad, am sure u were joking abi. Yeah i pay £6.95 on my lloyds monthly i get, free AA cover worth about 9.99 a month, phone insurance worth about £7.00 ( i have actually lost my phone twice and all i did was call and next day a brand new phone delivered), travel & health insurance round the world (each time i apply for schegen i don't bother buying travel insurance for me that will be like £8 every 6 months, and some others i dont use.

So i know what am paying for its not the current account but the ad ons at a bargain, very good bargain. Please what will i be paying £100 a year for to keep my money with GTB? This COT mentality hasnt left Nigerian banks, they are taking it overseas. They are even going to charge for card replacement and transfers within GT accounts and to other accounts. How ridicolous. So if i have a GT account and i want to transfer to HSBC they will charge me.What a laugh?

My money remains in HSBC and Lloyds, these guys are time wasters. Am not their target market anyway, the politicians will fund these accounts for them and they can make their money.

I wonder what they are doing here anyway, considering the volume of total trade Nigeria does, one just wonders the strategy of these banks. Intercontinental is here, Oceanic, Access, UBA geez its now like fashion.

Question: How many chinese banks, Brazillian banks in the UK even Japanese? Yet we are having like 6-7 of the 22 Nigerian banks in the UK. Well its not all gloom some folks like Alistar Darlin and Brwon will be happy more tax for them.

We the Muslims know it.

Have you been assured paradise and who assured you? Jesus was not a christian and would never be, so you would be lost on that day when every community goes to theier prophet and Jesus and Jews stay together and you would be left confused because he as never for you.

What kind of test are you referring to?

Go to Islam section and educate yourself. Raed how people have been contributing and knowledge being shared. I only come in whee I read your hypocrisy and lies.

It is now glaring that you never know anything about the Quran. Go to search and read about Jesus in the Quran, his miraculous birth, his messengership etc.

Do you care if I serve you biblical verses to support the above?

Do you have anywhere in your book where he said he was your saviour?

Who witnessed the alleged crucifixion, when was he crucified and was he crucified outside Jerusalem or in Jerusalem?

Do your calculation very well and let me know if he fulfilled the 3 days and three nights prophecy. Mind you, he said he would be in the belly of the earth but he was not. \

When you are through, let me know in what way he was like Jonah because he used Jonah's miracle out of very many.

Do you care for verses from your bible and do you mind if I give you verses that talk about Jesus in my book?

What is his name in aramaic and when you suply your answer, we shed light on that name and see if Jesus should have been his name.

Where did he die for your sin? Do you have the proof because I have thread on that in which you people never answered and I may bring the thread and you provide answers. Your God died for your sins!!

Oh so you agree that its just a paper, written, re-written, edited, re-editted by different writers by those that were never under any inspiration but contradicted themselves and lied to suit your faith

What derogatory things have we said concerning Jesus?

@ babs when u see our hypocrisy and lies indeed, you come here, grin. Eya i cant sympathise with you cos i dont know how it feels not to be sure of ones faith, so u keep snooping looking for something to convince your self u aint confused. Guy u are confused.

The moment a christain goes in there then admin is threathened again. Religion of peace

Yes Isa is in the Koran. I cant be bothered about that. But u know what even the toddler in sunday school knows where to find Jesus and the Koran wont be an option to look for him.

Can u imagine this by force association, is it by force.

I have no iota of interest in the Koran cos am not looking for anything, i have found the truth so u can keep reading my bible and looking for Isa there.

Association is not by force oh its a priviledge and Isa is not priviledged enof to be in the Bible.

What's happening here? I thought Jesus' colour was being discussed here .
@babs787 and ayinba,
I whole-heartedly agree with you on what the Quran says about Prophet Isa.Actually, there is no other source of information on Prophet Isa than the Quran. The Bible pales in this area when compared with the Quran.Jesus, whose name in Hebrew is Yehoshua,is found in the Bible-prophecies of His coming,His ministry,His sayings, death, resuurection etc.Etymologically speaking,Isa and Yehoshua are different.Have u ever considered the fact that Arabic and Hebrew being semitic languages have similar words for the same thing? For example,David-Dawud,Moses-Musa,Mary-Mariam and a lot more. But when it comes to Yehoshua,we get something different shocked !Where is Isa coming from Isa and Yehoshua/Jesus(in Greek) are not the same person.Where did Moh'd/Allah get that name from

For the uptenth time Jesus and Isa is not and cannot be the same. MALAMA has helped to show that further, see in bold. It gets more ridicolous the more u guys try. For the avoidance of doubt, Jesus is the Christ, God, Saviour and died for my sins. I go boldly to the throne of grace and speak face to face with the Godhead. Geez, i wish u could catch the rev. cool grin.

Sister ayinba1 cheesy, truely i sleep better knowing that i dont need to help my God defend his name, nor care less about the desecration of the bible because it is just a paper, just a paper. The words come alive inside a man and transforms not the paper.

I was here and noticed 1st hand the threats to admin by followers of the religion of peace when Islam was put under the light. I am glad and happy to hear u guys say anythin u choose on JC and the holy spirit.

However, the moment Islam is put under the light, u guys get uncomfortable and start threathening. Go to your Islam room now, what is it?

For the uptenth time why do u guys try so hard to bring Jesus into the Koran, do u really crave credibility.

Mohammed is not in the bible and we dont want him there, keep him in the Koran, we are sure of the bible.

Jesus is the christ, he is our saviour, he was crucified and on the 3rd day rose from the dead and is seated at the right hand of the father. We know for certain that Mohammed is not in the bible in any form and Jesus not in the Koran.

Please do us all a favour and stop trying to call Jesus Isa he is not. Isa can be your prophet am not here not disprove that.

And please can u provide evidence to support your statement that America & the west are not happy today. Sorry i forgot Nigerians are the happiest people on earth with no power supply, insecurity, bad roads and large propotion of the population living below $1 per day, happy people indeed.

Reading your second statement i decided not to bother, where someone can say the intellectual decision is not the best one. I rest my case, perhaps the emotional one is better. All the BS about environment and what not i can't be bothered to respond.

@ Landis

I reiterate and it is clear from your response why we are where we are. Just read dblock response and please go no further.

Mr. Landis, a left handed man or right handed man is not the issues here, the issue is there is a tried and tested method that can be modified, adapted whatever. Modifying and adapting to suit your own peculiarity is a skill and requires a lot, we don't even possess that how can we break new frontiers.

When you write an essay u do a literature review, a study of existing literature and knowledge on the field, based on that u make your own advancement, but u must know what has been done FIRST. At times, that is sufficient, other times u need new ones, modify, adapt what ever, its a building block.

The Asian tigers have been stealing technology suiting it to their peculiar situation, from the socio-political arrangement to the scientific (environment, health ) its all adaptations to their situations. China runs a one party state, they are smart enough to try and call that a democracy. The party is still corrupt and all but the idea of a greater good is pusihing development. They are not as diverse as we are so perhaps they can have that, for whatever reason it has worked for the. For us we have had parliamentary system to military rule to democracy we still cant fashion out what works for us then we blame the west.

Even foreign relations China's attitude is the attitude of the West before, support nations irrespective of their human rights record, they are just playing the western script.

Looking at your onitsha bridge and OBJ farm ideology, i just don't know what to say, all i can say is problem dey oh.
Politics / Re: Landis(Nairaland): I Wish We Could Think Like The West by away4real(m): 9:37pm On Jul 02, 2008
@ noetic,

Its your kind of thinking and knowledge that has gotten us to where we are.

noetic:

but think about it. MR A and B both have a farmland. If you begin to look at What needs to be done and not How it is done, then u will appreciate my argument that the western way of doing things is not ours. what both Mr A and B needs to get done, is to get their farmlands cultivatable for farming and then the eventual farming which will lead to harvest.
If according to u, MrA has devised a hoe to suit his righthandedness, must MrB apply the same approach since he is left handed? can't he invent a cutlass
? must he use a hoe?

Can u read your logic, invent a cutlass and go through a learning curve that will involve a lot of one step forward 5 backward. There is a tried and tested hoe that requires a bit of modification and you will get the whole land cultivated, but no u choose to invent a cutlass.

Pray tell who owns this knowledge, every political philosophy/scientific knowledge are deeply rooted in the west. China has so much spies in Britain and America stealing technology. You absolutely think they invented the whole cycle? Keep deceiving your self.

Look at Nigeria in Liberia and Sierre Leone after spending so much and loosing so much lives, what do we have to show for it, we were sent packing, becos we dont realise its all about INTEREST. Liberia should have been a heaven for Made in Nigerian goods had we had a proper thinking government, Onitsha and Aba should be exporting like wild fire to Liberia and Siere leone.

Keep the anti west narrative going, in short start a Nigerian National party, where electricity is not available in the air port. Absolute rubbish.

Politics / Re: Lagos State Govt - Are They On Crack?! by away4real(m): 9:30pm On Jun 13, 2008
Both schools have strong points in my opinion the underlying success of the law has to do with the implementation and alternatives, which is the responsiblity of the state first.

You cant have policemen on the road with no iota of credibility enforcing laws, we always seem to take the short cut to solving societal problems. The truth is there is no short cut.

If the rule will be applied to all inclucding Fashola himself, soldiers senior police officials, politicians. Then it is wellcomed, but when some will flaunt it easily and get away with away, where is the legitimacy to say others should obey it.

Where politicians and senior military/police personnel use sirens to move through traffic, when they are not on essential duty (ambulance or fire), why should others be made to stay in traffic.

Please this is absolute nonsense, the civil rights movement started by questioningg unjust laws, it is unjust for Fashola to move through traffic quickly and others made to be in traffic.

The problem might need such extreme measure, but the flip side is that it is unjust for the govt to attempt to implement it, when it cant get the basics right, fix roads, expand the BRT (provide alternatives), rennovate and introduce the trains back provide alternatives, enforce the law to cover ALL.

In the interim before u get that right, as the govt cant just sit and do nothing now, there is a problem, so have reasonable fines. Recognise the imperfection of enforcement, the law should make common sense, create avenues for people to contest decisions and be serious about it, the right to appeal should be recognised , enforcement to ALL, soon it will be the people enforcing it and not the state.

Is African American

There's a difference between talking and doing.  He is inexerpeinced and is making grave promises while being inexperienced.  His record is pretty thin if he becomes president. I'm not surprised you're completely persuaded by his smooth talk.  You're a woman.  Women are known to fall for cheap smooth talk.  He's like a virgin male promising to go ten rounds of 20-minutes of action each while never having felt the warmth of a woman.  There are different kinds of learning on the job. Running for president isn't exactly an easy feat and does require some experience.  You asked, "Is there anyone that became a president from their mothers uterine cavity?" No.  But it's not exactly a job for a bum, or a task that any man can do as you might be misled to believe.  How come you're not up there running since experience doesn't matter, according to you?  As an example, people go to school, get an education, develop the necessary skills needed to perform a job before venturing into the job.  As is usually the case with the presidency, Hillary Clinton and John McCain have been serving this country for many years.  America is not exactly fond of the habit of Nigerians to put Olodos like Babangida and Abacha on the job, hoping they get it right as they go along. The catastrophic consequences of such actions can be seen as Nigeria is currently in demise. Admit it or not, fact is, the Clinton years are loved by many in the US. They created an era of wonderful socio-economic prosperity.  I'm sure you may have heard about how Blacks in America loved Bill Clinton.  You did didn't you?  Now that she's running against a black man you have decided to turn against her and instead call her a bitch? Typical woman.

So, my Aunt Hillary is a hate monger?  Despite the fact that she's not my aunt, which clearly disqualifies your presumptions, and instead of making a stupid generalization, why not support your claim with specific examples as I did?  Don't pull an ima1 one me now.

The statements in bold are most unnecessary "MY FRIEND".

Lets keep to issues, Obama makes Excellent speeches not good speeches and thats a strength he should explore. Look at McCain yesterday he was so Awful, geez. To sell a product the seller must speak, we can talk of contents/substance the issue is that you must be heard first.

The experience school you are holding on to has been dropped by Mr. MY FRIEND himself he is now a change apostle, its just illogical, irritating and an insult to upwardly mobile folks. Shen was right when she noted that theres no experience that can prepare anyone for the job of President of the United States, what experience would have prepared Bush for 9/11 attacks. See the rubbish he made of it.

The issue in my opinion is capacity and judgement. Obama started a campaign about 16 months ago with the odds against him with little or nothing on ground and was not known nationally, in other words he was the under dog. He has shown capacity by building and better managing a campaign process. The authenticity and ability to build from nothing is a very useful skill. Then to the issue of judgement, please did u liston to the AIPAC speech today lets attempt to downplay the oratory skills of Obama, his views make more sense.

There was a thread in january when he won the IOWA primaries and folks in here said all sorts, that people don't know why they support him, we are supporting him because he is black and all such nonsense.

Why wonder why hes drawn to young folks he is close to my generation so he appeals to me, grew up post Vietnman and all.

Support who u choose, but attempting to simplify Obama to only good speeches is just plain stupidity. His resume might be thin compared to McCain, but experience will not and does not make anyone a better president.

But come to think of it, this probe is not necessarily a bad thing, is it not the probe thats making everyone here say move forward.

Move forward we will but questions must be asked and answered and erring officials PUNISHED. The projects might have been ill planned thats the issue and not some time lag arguement, President Obasanjo is a retired president and all due respect to him he is not "baba" as someone here used.

Please he was the CEO of the nation and investments were not prudently managed. He has questions to answer, will he handle Otta Farms that way, if he will then we should be careful choosing our CEO. The question raised by skyblue remains key to this discussion funds were spent and there are no tangible results on ground.

No one is advocating to stop the power projects, thats absolute rubbish but we are advocating for accountability and prudence in governance.

@ nuzo so its becos u like spraying money and showing off that this is bitting you.

The issues are clear why cant you rent a hall and have the party and spray (hopefully that will be a crime soon) and not dirty and litter the streets with your annoying parties.

The menace of the street parties is well known and this is long over due, the decision should be applauded. Seems Fashola want to convert lagos to a World Class City, the work is still plenty but this is a wellcome development

@ away4real

I would not be satisfied at all - since i cannot immediately reap rewards from my investment. But would I classify all I have spent as a waste? NO - I would get down to solving the remaining issues - pipelines, gas supply, community negotiations and complete the work, not keep parroting how the money has been wasted. I prefer a pragmatic approach focused on solving the problem, rather than an elaborate name calling session and blame trading like the House of Reps is engaging in.

the problems may have been anticipated, but not expected to drag out this long. Now if this was the issue being faced squarely instad of name calling, I would not have any issues with the House of Reps - they seem more intent on bringing down their 'enemies' than solving the situation on ground.

Fair enough, but the question is simple, there were serious errors made that could have been AVOIDED, and the cost is high in terms of actual funds and opportunity cost (the growth of the economy as a result of the success of the project)

So now what are the lessons to be learnt and ensure it doesnt happen again and in my opinion that should be the role of the probe and not the nonsense we are observing. We should be a nation that learns and move forward. Were this errors avoidable, was it intentional, was it as a result of people not doing their job. What of the contractors are they at the stage of the project, they ought to, many questions needs to be answered.

My bitterness is the arguement by some that OBJ is without blame or that he can't be held responsible. Who then should be?? The most annoying that is his defense that he is an elder and in Africa we respect elders, absolute nonsense. The same elders that are responsible for the state of the nation should be respected, what audacity coming from him.

The question is simple the funds invested vis returns (actual electricity supply) is far below average. Serious questions must be asked to ensure we don't keep taking one step forward and 5 backward due to intentional or unintentional errors.
Politics / Re: 'My Power Project Story' By Olusegun Obasanjo by away4real(m): 6:12pm On May 13, 2008
Its all so funny that mediocrity in Nigeria can be celebrated and condoned.

All ye project management experts in EPC, the questions are clear, where the so called problems anticipated or not, the youth issues and several problems being stated didn't just come up, what were the contingencies, a man with a passion to succeed allows himself no excuses, a job that needs to be done has to be done.

The bulk stops on OBJ he can't pick and choose on the success of his administration. I am a supporter of his economic reforms, the intuition was clear we have a long term plan but recognise short and medium term constraints. But again there had to be immediate success to jump start a process.

On the power project OBJ failed the criteria being the amount of funds spent vis a vis the success rate after 2 terms in government (8 years). Not what he approved, not the turbines in the port, not the transmission problems (like its not all encompassing) but simple the electricity supply  being received by Nigerians in their homes.

The summary which is like most things we do is that the process was not thought true to the end, a lot of the problems were not anticipated, it has nothing to do with design but with planning and administration. If our so called engineers in the house can't see this i wonder??

@ debo useful insight and information as against those clowns in the house of rep but skyblues question is still valid, the present level of success is it comesorate with the funds spent. Its a simple investment appraisal, if its your 6.5 billion will u be a happy man now, all u are incurring is sunk cost.
