Crime / Re: My Story As A Cult Member........initiation Phase Included... by away4real(m): 1:04pm On Dec 18, 2019
Sadly an element of fear has been introduced, a few who contributed feel the need to appease. This exactly is why what saynotocultism has done is indeed commendable and should be encouraged. The impact of this thread lies in its detail and say it all approach.

@livebyday in summary your key issues with this thread and the approach of the poster seems to be limited to the use of DSS, narrative on the Edo incident and revelation of “codes”?

Now here is the issue, these so call codes are not secret and sacred to later days cultist, what this thread has done actually is to educate the naïve. In addition this thread has been open for a few months, I struggle to see how it is increasing the casualty / impacting the Edo crisis.

Secondly, if as you claim the poster is not a member of DSS then do you need to worry? And finally his narrative on Edo is that something that was not already in the public domain.

We must not always seek violence in discuss, it’s what keeps many from engaging in Nigeria especially in politics. Do we need to track people down or intimidate them in a bid to silence them. We can disagree and remain respectful. Pastor F might decide not to disclose more details and Mr.Z on the internet decide to say it all – importantly they are both sending a message.

My hope is that more repentant cultist are bold enough to reveal EVERYTHING and for ALL of the cults (particularly the main ones. If there are no secret codes, then there is no need to fight to protect it.

Reading the alleged killing if true broke my heart and elicited a bit of anger – failure of the Nigerian state.

I actually thought the poster was being extreme in some of his responses to threats but perhaps not.

@ livebyday agreed saynotocultism might have exaggerated a bit and perhaps got carried away a few times. Reading his expose, it seems to be a personality trait and not an intentional act to intimidate.

However, exposing some of these activities including the lingua used by this particular group as he has done should be viewed as positive. The unhealthy hold these cult groups seem to have on its members (old & new) is actually alarming and de-mystification would help and not continued secrecy.

Your point on endangering members could be valid but I argue these members are already endangered anyway, they publicly identify themselves. Could it have been toned down a bit - Yes.

It's a sad situation we find ourselves and any help should be welcomed, if only a single person read this thread and decided against joining then it has served a good cause in my humble opinion. I only hope other members of other cult groups do same and de-mystify their groups then perhaps there will be no need to go through the barbaric initiations, if what I read here is true.

Politics / Re: How Does GMB Intend To Fight Corruption If Elected ?? by away4real(m): 10:18am On Dec 27, 2014
It's a bit worrying that no one can articulate the "change" policy on corruption.

I am interested in hearing from Buhari's supporters, am wondering how he will fight corruption with the crowd he now dines with.

While we are at that..pls what is his policy on diversification - we have always known oil is volatile, what are his plans to diversify the economy?

Am careful not to join the band wagon of change without first understanding what the change looks like..
Politics / Re: 19 Northern Governors Defend Buhari's Comments by away4real(m): 1:51pm On May 18, 2012
I supported Buhari previously based on the fact that he is principled and that what the country needs is just a man that doesnt want to own the whole world.

BUT the activities of the Boko Haram and now the words being uttered by Buhari and the govs all leads to one thing at the end of the day the northerners cant stand a minortiy rulling. Truthe be told all this is happening because it is not a northerner or a northern stooge rulling.

Enough of the GEJ bashing yes the man is not it, corrupt and has his short coming but mention the nigerian leader that was any better..and which blood was shed.. so why is it that now we are having all the unrest and threats. If it was in the past these mercenaries in the name of Boko Haram would have brought the madness down south but let them try it now...i guess the leaders sending/using them know better that..every body/region is armed now.. the balance has shifted...

The north should take a chill pill, they are not any better this notion that they are born to rule must end..leave GEJ to serve his term and stop the nonsense threats..

They are loosing the sympathy of the few of us from the South South that do not support GEJ but also the north cant hold us to ransom anymore...enough GEJ should be allowed to serve his term ..he is as nigerian as any of us..

I am in no way saying we should tolerate coruption but amongst all those talking sho is any better..let them shut it..GEJ should not be picked on because he is from the South South..it is unfair

Mr Fresh, take a step back, have a drink and brethe in and out.

You had a post suggesting pastorship was been bastardised/financial rewards/career pastors, you raised some questions and tried to adduce the notion of tithes and offering as an inducement to church planting. Some-how, insinuating people were making a joke of the calling. You need to re-read your post again and I would suggest you only make ascertions if you know anyone personally that has turned the christain calling to a joke. Am not talking of excesses here, but the chistain calling.

I am not a pastor but i am called to proclaim the good news. There is no special calling needed for that. Now if I do that all the time or not is a different question. I have a career and other aspirations that makes it practically impossible for me to go to the uppermost part of the earth to preach. Do i do my bit, No, i fall short at times.

IF you are a christain you share the same basic calling as pastors.

This issue has been put to bed.  The different translations and commentaries state the obvious.

There are several cross references in the link below from Paul and other apostles.

http://bible.cc/1_timothy/5-18.htm

Mr Fresh I am not trying to personalise, if you say you are not called, I take it you are not a christain, if so apologies.

Pastor Kun:

@Joagbaje
"Paul was a full time minister" yet the bible records on several occasions that he was working to support himself. So going by your using the example of Paul, other full time ministers should exemplify him and also work to support themselves.

Pastor Kun, yet Paul states ministers should be supported. Lets look at Paul AND the other apostles. The bible is way too clear for christains to be having dis debate.

To resolve this once and for all. Please see the link below.

http://bible.cc/1_timothy/5-18.htm

Clarke's Commentary on the BibleThe Scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox - This is a manifest proof that by τιμη, honor, in the preceding verse, the apostle means salary or wages: "Let the elders that rule well be accounted worthy of double honor," a larger salary than any of the official widows mentioned before, for "the laborer is worthy of his hire." The maintenance of every man in the Church should be in proportion to his own labor, and the necessities of his family. He that does no work should have no wages. In the Church of Christ there never can be a sinecure. They who minister at the altar should live by the altar; the ox that treadeth out the corn should not be muzzled; the laborer is worthy of his hire: but the altar should not support him who does not minister at it; if the ox won't tread out the corn, let him go to the common or be muzzled; if the man will not labor, let him have no hire.

debosky:

You have failed to distinguish between support and a fixed salary.

Take a layman example: as a student my parents support me while I'm in school. How do they support me? They do so by giving me a fixed allowance each month. Is it no longer support from my parents because it's a fixed amount monthly? No.

I'm not making a mountain out of anything - the bible clearly endorses providing financial support to those who preach the gospel. If church groups decide to make this financial support a regular monthly figure to aid planning and so on, that doesn't make it mal-practice in any way.

Thanks for such a clear analogy, it beggers belief what these folks are trying to justify here. God bless you.

freshcvv:

People go to school now to take pastoring as a career, everyone thinks pastoring is another kind of jobs out there, hence the reasons for different kind of pastors, doctrines and teachings.

IF THERE WAS NO SALARY STRUCTURE, half of people calling themselves pastors now adays wouldn't be one.

What i think Goshen is trying to pass accross is that, people in most Nigeria have bastardized pastorship because of the financial gains attached to it and this is turning this "SACRED" SACRIFICE of a position into a JOKE where all manner of people wake up in the morning to say "I HAVE BEEN CALLED"

HOW MANY MISSIONARIES DO WE HAVE IN NIGERIA?
HOW MANY CHURCHES DO WE HAVE IN THE REMOTE VILLAGES WHERE THEY DON'T HAVE MONEY TO GIVE AS TITHE AND OFFERINGS?
HOW MANY PEOPLE WHO CLAIMED THEY WERE CALLED WOULD WILLINGLY FUND THE CHURCH AND ITS ACTIVITIES WITH THEIR OWN MONEY?

Mr fresh, how many villages have you preached the gospel. Are we not all called to this mandate. You will be schocked to find out the volume of ministry work done in the villages by Nigerian ministries.

Please leave your day job and go and preach in a village. This arm chair criticism of those that decide to make an effort is shocking and moreso from those that have have experienced christ. It is either you guys have never really been involved in active ministry or this is purely been extracted from a Nigerian perspective.

This notion that because there are excesses by a few then it makes it unscriptural begs for common sense. I once attended a ministry in a quiet part of the UK and there were 2 paid ministers, 1 part time and the other full time. These guys gave their all and at a point one of the ministers was having marital issues because he had to always be in church. The trustees decided that they had to take on 1 more paid minister. These guys could do the job for free and actually the 1 that was taken was was previously a volunteer.

The so called salary structure is a support for these guys, how will they feed their family. The ministry i attended had outreaches in Uganda, tanzania and at from the wages they were paid by the church travel to this areas to monitor the outreaches.

Mr Goshen has dramatically ignored the celibate issue and a few others are calling pastors an abused title.  Oh well what can i say but that look at your life and if indeed you are perfect then keep throwing these stones, but if you are in a continous process of renewal then put on a scriptural cap (which should be your default mode anyway) and judge wisely.

If you want to bash individual ministries feel free and open a thread though that in my opinion is uncalled for but the fact that fixed support of ministers is scriptural is obvious to all if we are to be honest.

I havnt been on naira land for a while and though not currently in nigeria to physically see some of the excesses but the bitterness i observe from nigerian christains is really worrying.
Religion / Re: Preachers And Pastors Receiving Monthly Salary For Preaching The Gospel. by away4real(m): 7:51pm On Feb 28, 2012
@ goshen you have a doctrine you believe and i wont say you are wrong but I disagree with you. You are as much indoctrinated like any other christain.

The issue I take is your attempt to call any minister been paid by ministries lazy, that is way out of line.

We can judge righteously and am not against speaking against some of the excesses we see in some of our ministries, but calling people you dont know lazy is not judging righteously and really plainly wrong.

Believe what you choose to, but there is a sound scriptural basis to financial support of ministers. No matter how hard you try its in the bible.

Again, if you cant state categorically that all should be CELIBATE, stop this pick and choose example.
Religion / Re: Preachers And Pastors Receiving Monthly Salary For Preaching The Gospel. by away4real(m): 7:27pm On Feb 28, 2012
goshen360:

The problem of indoctrination in the church today to justify all the bible verses of Apostle Paul to mean salary is that, the Apostles of early church had their vocation and still preached the gospel rigorously. Apostle Paul combined his tent making trade with Apostolic assignment. Peter and others didn't return to their fishing business as main source of their income, however there is not record that they received regular salaries from the church. Today, we have lazy men that don't want to work rather than depend on church salary, hence they carve out baseless teachings to support their salary earnings.

Every Pastor should get a job or run a business. Yes, the church can rise up to support them in times of need but we do not have a foundation from early Apostles for preachers to receive salary. Pastors have created a salary system simply because they made clergy a job and professionalize it giving it terms such as "full time". Jesus preached full time but never received salary but support. Every child of God of God is a full time minster, God didn't call us into part time service or fellowship.

Again, we have a foundation by the early apostles and we cannot build something else on such foundation. Support preachers and pastors? scripturally YES. Pay preachers and pastors salary? Biblically, NO. We do not have such example from Christ or from the Apostles.

@ Mr Goshen please try hard to read your comments, you are as guilty of the charge you accuse others.

You have tried real hard to convey your position, but as debosky has tried to point out, its the heart/intent that matters and is more important than all the semantics/word play you are concerned about.

Please tell what is regular support, what is salary are both not just a means of blessing from that which God has given you. Some people receive salary daily, weekly , monthly or even yearly so how does that differ from daily, wekly , monthly or yearly support.

If you do not come out and state categorically that all should be CELIBATE then please drop this. Souls are perishing.

Apologies to the love birds, this is not meant to derail the thread.

It is directed to baskem. You mention you were a publicist and stated briefly exactly what it entailed. I would like to understand it a bit in more detail i.e.

1. How do you source your clientele?
2. Do you only do it online. You mentioned branding a franchise - how does that work.
3. Do you do advertising for people?
4. How exactly do you get paid?

@ baskem guess you have of Max Clifford, do you also do things similar to what he does.

I dont expect all the answers at once and I do have few more. Does this sit have a chat functionality, or how best can we take this up.

Mr. Toba once again apologies to you and the love birds.

My Effort on Buhari/Bakare Today:

Today i met with the Jarus early in the morning on the Island to collect 17 Posters from him and a short discussion on the progress of the group. I also gave him my widow's mite of N10,000 in support of the BB Integrity Vanguard Group. I was also at the Bank to pay for Bulksms to start sending out messages from today till the day of election. I Plan to send 1000 sms per day for 5days.

@ ceah how much does it cost to send bulk SMS, and how is it targeted i.e. where does the sender get the numbers to send from. Might sound stupid but truth is I dont understand it.

If you can help find out, if the senders can target a certain area, or those that load a certain amount monthly/weekly i.e. low amounts. I will be interested in sending to people leaving in rural areas on the morning of election, to get them out to vote

@ GenBuhari the question is what do need exit polls for? Do you need exit polls for the sake of exit polls or to aid in making accurate prediction on the outcomes of the election.

If its the later then exit polls in itself cannot be used in calling an election. The best you can do is an average of various exit polls.

You can conduct one if you choose, point is that it does not in any way suggest the results of the polls.

Gen3, silence is golden, u need to ignore those that choose to rant.
Politics / Re: Report Your Efforts On Buhari-bakare Team Here by away4real(m): 1:41pm On Apr 12, 2011
@ Genbuhari, your point on exit polls are noted, but exit polling is used in conjunction with several other factors before elections are called like you see on CNN.

The issue with exit polling is that you will need to filter out the noise (i.e. peole lieing/saying something else). Whist we need exit polling, the focus as your fellow namesake3 noted should be on satuday.

Furthermore, the sample Nairaland is too skewed to suggest any trend that will pass any statistical test.

Saturday should be the focus and the house is united.

We need to divide states into Safe, Swing and Lost. in my opinion no need investing a penny in Rivers/Bayelsa, not becos its not important but realistically we know we cant win those states.

i dont know if theres someone in here that understand the country demography, but if we can draw up the 36 states and divide them by local govts then we can begin to have a realistic view of expectations.

Separately, the Buhari government - or agents purportedly acting on its behalf -  humiliated several important personalities and opinion leaders in the country.  The O'oni of Ife and Emir of Kano were publicly cautioned and restricted to their domains after they paid a visit to Israel, a country  with which Nigeria did not have diplomatic relations at the time, dating back to OAU actions in solidarity with Egypt during the 1983 Arab-Israeli war.  A team of soldiers was sent to the Park Lane residence of Chief Awolowo in Apapa where they proceeded to ransack the premises, searching for nothing in particular.  Sheikh Mahmoud Gumi, a reverred moslem cleric, was allegedly removed from chairmanship of the Nigerian Pilgrims Board, his salary terminated and official car impounded - ostensibly because he disagreed with the decision to execute cocaine traffickers.  It remains controversial to this day whether some of these activities were undertaken, not by the Supreme Headquarters per se, but by lower echelons in the Army (specifically the Directorate of Military Intelligence) as part of a psyops campaign to discredit the regime and set it up for the kill.  I recall, for example, that while leading members of the NMA were being hunted down by the NSO supposedly on behalf of General Buhari, at least one prominent activist claimed to be in touch with the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Babangida who was said to be sending signals to aggrieved Doctors at variance with the public posture of the regime.

Sim[ple signs that signal Buhari is a hypocrite. Just like pastors and other religious who practise do as I say but not do as I do- all animals are equal but some are more equal than others type of fake "radical"

The last time I checked the president does not have the power to make laws or amend the constitution. He can sponsor a bill and CONVINCE the lawmakers in the national and state assemblies to pass it. Forget this messiah mentality and learn a few things about how you can influence things from your ward and constituency through your legislators.

I fail to see where I said he is the messiah., all my arguement was leaning to his credibility and honesty which you cant question/address, please dispute that if you can, a text from his previous not so honest boss OBJ alludes to his honesty so hey, address that. This attempt to mix religion is intellectually shallow.

It is really sad that we cant discuss issues without religion keep it out and focus. We should know better., so i wont dwell on that.

You suggest he did nothing with the 2 cases in question you quoted. Honestly, I knew nothing of what you were on about as I was pretty young then. So in the information age, I checked. You so misrepresented the issue its shocking. You just told old wife tales. Read the extract below. Buhari put measures in place to forestall future occurances. He did act, it was so strong that the army was uncomfortable, read the whole article. There are several other piece on the issue,

Based on this I didnt bother to check your second point. I do recollect  the WAI instituted by Idiagbon and how effective it was, and overall the person of Tunde Idiagbon was not a corrupt individual so lets not attempt to rubbish his name in death.

Also my statement on his pledge definately relates to the huge persuassive influence the president has in a system such as Nigeria over the house and senate, so I really dont think that is an issue.

If you dont have facts dont talk, bring a case that can question the man's integrity, simple, If not then can you please dont waste our time,

Such a waste of time, talking nonsense smiley

The credibility of the currency exchange exercise was, however,  severely tested when the late Emir of Gwandu, father of Major Mustafa Haruna Jokolo (rtd) who was then the ADC to the C-in-C, arrived back in the country from a foreign trip with a large delegation of wives and children.  Newspapers reported that aided by connections to the regime, he cleared 53 suitcases, none of which were inspected by the customs service at the airport which was then under Abubakar Atiku - the current Vice President.  However, the issue remains controversial with latter day unsubstantiated comments from General Buhari himself as well as aides to former Major Jokolo (who is now the Emir of Gwandu) claiming on the one hand that the count of "53 suitcases" was inaccurate and on the other that the scenario was contrived by then NSO Boss Rafindadi allegedly to protect  a friend of his in the diplomatic service.

To deal with the emerging problem of narcotics trafficking a retrospective law was passed to have suspects arrested, tried, convicted and shot. Irrespective of the merits of taking a harsh line to the problem, the retrospective nature of the decree - leading to the deaths of  Bartholomew Owoh, Bernard Ogedegbe and Lawal Ojuolape - was inherently controversial to many neutral observers.  The fact that a death sentence was the prescribed punishment was considered too severe by others.  On the other hand the risk that investigations would someday target well placed military officers and their mules became a source of quiet background agitation, particularly when some very prominent businessmen like Dantata, Isyaku Rabiu, Maidaribe, Bako Kontagora, Amali Sokoto, Haruna Dan-Ja and others were arrested for this or other reasons or their relatives investigated.

If he looses that sould be very shocking.

The attempt to paint this with a religious and ethnic brush is actually very sad and to hear it coming from young people is more worrying.

PDP has all the structures and there is so much selfish interest that the elites everywhere want them to win.

My choice to support Buhari is out of the desire for a change in Nigeria, he can be from Ghana and be a devil worshipper for all I care. THE MAN IS CREDIBLE. HE WONT STAND BY AND DO NOTHING WHEN OTHERS AROUND HIM ARE STEALING.

The pledge to remove the immunity clause from the constitution is the beginning. If that is removed, there would be a sense of responsibilty in Governors, LG Chairmen, Councillors and the whole remit.

Individuals would be able to instigate suit actions against their leaders, at first it might be abused but after a while it would settle and the leaders will be unable to enrich themselves stupidly.

Look beyond the issues that have been used to divide us,  If you really need a change for our generation, its our time to make a change. All Buhari needs to do is break this trend of celebrating corruption and instill a bit of discipline.

Solomon227:

Just called some friends if they can get it something on air. But they all are preoccupied with their daily hustling 4 dat kind of thing. Is there no way Buhari4Change organization can be involved directly? At least they already have jingles, all Im tired of is having to explain who Buhari is to every uninterested Lagosian I am trying to win over. I will appreciate if we can deal with their reps in Lagos and adjoining Ogun state. It will be easier to convince people when they already hear stuffs on radio.

@ solomon227 can you ask how much it will cost for slots during all those pidgin english programmes, all those common man kind of thing, might not be much but I can spare $50.00 for this,

9ijaMan can you also help coordinate, lets see what we can do, I live abroad so all i can give is my 50 USD, doesnt matter if he wins or not but u would know that in your heart u tried to make a change,

Evil strives when good men do nothing, every little will help

Its insannity to do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.

For those that want to vote GEJ, 4 years down the line when things get worse make sure u do not complain. And if you have any form of objectivity you will see that he can make no difference. he has shown it.

Vote for honest credible men. Vote BB

An opportunity of a life time awaits us Generation X/Y, (what the western world might call post baby boomers) people born late seventies, eighties, nineties to change our nation.

Think real hard folks, can Jonathan change anything. How will IBB, Bode george allow a prosperous non-corrupt country. Lets think beyond ethnicity and really think again,

Vote wisely. Vote BB.

To be honest, how can anyone actually believe GEJ can change things structurally. With all the paddy paddy going on, its not possible.

For those that vote for GEJ, they have themselves to blame. Ribadu Adeola is a better option than GEJ,, however BB all the way. Honesty and Credibility.

Please do what you can for the campaign, PDP will definately outspend,

Use your Black Berry to send messages to all your contacts, send text messages to your friends.

More importantly ensure they vote on voting day and not just talk the nonsense that PDP will rig.

Not this time, its time for our country to change
