When we are discussing issues like this,lets be careful and avoid sentiments and analyse issues.
I am contributing as a holder of both certificate (HND and BSc certificate )in one of the best polytechnic and university in Nigeria.
I want to say here that both certificate holder experience almost the same rigour but in a different form,we are only overblowing the Bsc certificate,look,HND or Bsc cert. is a function of what the person is made of.
There is no scientific proof to say that all polytechic graduates are dull or can not pass UME.
You can not say that all University graduates are better than HND holders.therefore,it is only the white paper establishing polytechic that is standing as a monster against them because as at the time YABATECH was to be established in 1948,little did the policy makers knew that it would hunt them,moreso polyechic discrimination never set in until 1995 when the number of graduates grew and theres need to reduce applicants by any means.
Can you remember that even few years back,some corporate bodies discriminate against state universities,so what are u talking about?
Are we saying state Universities too are inferior?
Dear nairalanders,What is the essense or a certificate holder that is not useful to the economy?yet he claims he/she is a degree holder.
Dont be deceived ,think of what you can do with the little you acquire from Poly or uni and leave the so called policy makers that does not know what they want.
The candid suggestion is that both certificate holders should be given equal chance to proof themselves either either by practicals or a test,lets avoid sheilding one certificate holder for another.
After all keen compettition bring out the best from the competitors

The old students certificate can not be upgraded becos it was issued in the capacity of a polytechnic.I think the interested old students will have to apply for a two years programme.Athough,preference may be given to their ex student.

There is no need to argue or debate on the conversion again.The schools worth the conversion considering their contributions and training in the society.
I am writing as one of the apostles that fought for this upgrade/conversion in 1993 in YABATECH,also as an HND and BSc holder.
Dear friends,let me put it to you that if Polytechnics are given the power to award degree,it will not solve any problem of discrimination becos if they present their degree alongside with a university degree holder,Trust Nigerians,discrimination will still set in.
To this end,i think there shouldnt be any hocus pocus abt the conversion.If possible lets scrap all polytechnics becos the purpose for which it was established has been forfeited,
Dont be surprised that not all poly graduates are dull and not all university graduates are brilliant.
Pls lets welcome the conversion idea becos we have to move ahead and avoid buring talents in the Polytechnic.

Guys,these appears to be too theoritical to me anyway,and i feel all these are peppermint and card love will always catch and oyinbo woman(abroad ladies).We cant pretend to what we are not abeg apply Nigerian way

I think the best way to win a Nigeria ladies heart is to :

1. Tell her lies when its necessary,as a man when she gets you.Let her know u have to do everything to get her.

2.Always endeavour to tell her what she wants to hear at least for the time u are still trying to bring her closer to you.

3. Always share in her problem especially when it comes to finance-You will win her heart becos not all men will do this.

4.Create time and stay more often with her continuously for some months and keep off unannounced (This is to check if actually an interest has been developed-She will look for you if she needs you)-This means she was enjoying your company

Although B Bon is an employment consultant but they are basically quack and hungry consultant capitalising on the prevail problem of the youths to make money.
The professional procedure for any agency/recruitment does not say u shd pay money b4 engaging u.What if u pay and they dont give u a job?
Visit the website for the profesional consultants like Authur anderson,Philip consulting,Michael stevens or KPMG,it is clearly written that they dot demand for money for employment.U see the organisation in need are expected to pay the consultant.Which is alway more than the peanut they get from u.

Some people sees Mathematics flexible becos of their background while some sees
it as not.

Alright,Am also aware that Tony had third class from Ambrose Alli University,am also told that he was also thrown out of the Head of human resources in the defunt Crystal bank now Standard trust bank.This means that he was neva gien the oppotunity to prove himself.
This facts now buttress my point i mentioned in the discrimination of HND holder that are not given opportunity to prove themselves nor tried alongside with their Bsc counterpart.Imagine if Tony did not find his way back to STB would he had turned round STB/UBA like this?
Finally,We youth be it HND or Bsc should try and bring out our potential irrespective of the rigours and ignore our leader who dont know what they are doing.
Please lets preach against dicrimination of HND . 2.2 division and explore what the holder has in stock not what is contained in the certificate.

If only this could be implemented it will go a long way to opening the golden potentials in the HND holders!The issue of HND or Bsc certificate is not our problem in this country but what we need is the actual performance,You dont need to shield a Bsc holder from competing with an HND holder by asking him to go away without testing him at all.
The basic problem we suffer here is according behavoural scientist is STEROTYPING(meaning judging from an activity or behaving)
Can anybody tell me or prove that all the students that graduated from the university are all brilliant.If ur anwer is NO then ,not all graduate of Polytechnic are dullard or not good for employment.
It then logically follows that equal opportunity shd be given to both during selection,then u are free to conclude from the result.
You see am writing as an HND upper credit(YABATECH) and Bsc holder(2.1)AAU-Ekpoma,Therefore,lets open our minds,and reason with me that HND or BSC certificate is a paper,it all depends on ur mind build up and experience.
After all,Non of the certificate guarantees prosperity.

The test is more of graphical interpretation(Bar charts,histogram)-Maths.foe English u are only going to read short passages and answer questions that follows-English either A-true,B-false or not applicable or more info need.
Note that this test format for the experienced and u need to be very fast

I want to tell u that i hold HND and BSC and am proud to let u know that HND or BSC is a function of the person presenting the certificate.
Lets take a statistics of the failed banks from the time of Abacha,u will record that most of the directors were BSC holder so lets take a decision from that point of view,If they were HND holder,that would have been a point were people will be nailing them.
Therefore,HND or BSC is not what u think it is but the person holding it

I think its necessary to accept that HND or BSC is a thing of the mind,I am speaking as a holder of both HND and BSC qualification,therefore i am not taking sides with any one and it will be fully appreciated if u are not being deceived by Ur paper/certificate u are carring about.I want to say categorically that not all BSC holder can stand an HND holder if properly juxtaposed
take a visit to some banks even after consolidation,u still find BSC holders employed as CONTRACT STAFF
At any rate,u may wish to consider 2.1 and 2.2 grades,if a person graduates with 2.2 the general opinion in Nigeria is that the person is not too good,this is also applicable to the holders of HND holders.People like Fola Adeola of GTB has his foundation from the Polytechnic ,yet he discriminates,therefore,u are free to make a logical conclusion that there is no basis to discriminate if he can take GTB to that level,Go to ICAN the records are there to show that HND holders are very relevant in the scheme of things.Lets try to broaden our minds and address the curricular and the modus operandi of our educational system because most guys ruling us don't have this HND or BSC so what is the hulla baloo all about?If they do what has been their contribution since the monster started tormenting the HND holders
Afterall,Yabatech had been existing over 30 years before some Universities were born in Nigeria.Please note,i am not saying hear that HND is better than BSc or vise versa but am just trying to put it forward that you dont completely ignore the relevance of both qualification.
