Investment / Fixed Income/bond Trading In Nigeria? How Deep Is It? Future Prospects? by babalawo(m): 9:40am On Jun 13, 2009
@ all
I am starting this trend to get incisive views about the asset class-BONDS/FIXED INCOMES.

The current financial crises has seen a lot of activities in global bond market as a result of investor's "Flight to safety" and I will like to know the trend in Nigeria.

How deep is our bond market? which companies in Nigeria are the household name in the bond market, any Nigerian PRIMCO?

Has the Nigerian corporate market explored the possibility of the debt market as against the Capital market?
I have decided to use above average terms here to provoke the level of discuss that I really want on this tread but also interested greenhorns are welcome  to ask questions.

Thank you for your support.

@ all

Please can anyone in the house give me a job lead in these firms?
I have five years experience in the banking sector b4 my recent MSC in International Finance from a Business School in Europe.
I am coming back home next week and do not want to go back to the banking industry.I prefer an investment/asset management coy relevant to my recent training.I am also on track for the CFA 1 and the professional Risk Managemnt exams.
I will appreciate any useful links
Thank you all.

I don't know u and U don't knew me either,I wouldn't have posted if Finance wasn't my line.so don't bother trying to teach data mining to any one here!
,I really don't want to join words with U but First, the way we analyse issues differs,U could as well read the Advert again maybe U will call a '2 years hands on- experience a starting point also read well • An accountant or finance prprofessionalith B.Sc (Hons.) degree and a minimum of 2-years post qualification experience,
I still maintain the 80k is not decent enough for a 2 year post qualification experience.
U go start Ur company and employ nursery rhymer's to field-in data for Ur investment and valuation reports for U and lets see how far U will go./better why not just run a program to do just that??Good luck!!!

Dis Guy:

Exactly, you will be the one acquiring skills!

I think the banks kind of messed everything up with wages, everyone thinking they should be paid around 100k
lets be honest even most banks dont pay upto 100k-during the booms years i'll like to know how much unity bank, wema bank, finbank paid their staff and i heard intercontinental is paying around 75k- this job to me is purely entry level with a fancy title! wink

I doubt the candidate will be working past 5pm, chasing customers on the street for deposit etc

Una mouth don open when you see hear 'bankers' salary, its the employers market out there
siddon dia they wait for mega pay, while mumsy dey feed you

on a serious level they shoulld have a band like 50k-100 depending on experience and qualification

pcicero, did she say what organisation the recruitment was for? this kain coded recruitment worry oh,i dont even know what i applied for.
Hello Pcicero,
U mean they have started calling the entry levels for interview. Then they must really be fast. For the organization I still bet my self for Savannah any body used to Nigerian banking industry will know that its practically impossible now for any of the exiting banks to mass recruit from entry level to Deputy manager level,I dont take seriously to posters that says its UBA or Wema, its only Savannah that can fill these vacuums now and I think they willopen their 108 branches in August
Pls as for the experienced hands do U have an idea of when the interviews will be
I think I need to get a means of getting across to you personally if U dont mind?I am not really on-ground and I am following this recruitment seriously
Thank you

Dis Guy:

thats not bad fro entry level, atleast you'll gain good experience to start
plus you wont be on the street roaming begging for deposits

and most of the experience are listed as desired but not essential wink

ahhhh all in all don't knock the hustle!
you'll be working in the top floor AC blasting

Now tell me how after having a 2.1 and 2 yrs experience as stipulated in the advert---how do u house ur self in Lagos, transport your self ,feed ur self on 50k, U have people that sent you to sch too when will dey yield the dividend on 50K a month!!!

The truth is that 50k is Slavery for this job description and still the most popular quote in Nigerian labor law -'Ability to work under pressure'-without which no Nigerian can get work.

We all know the truth don't let desperation becloud your thinking.

U can even take the job for a lower pay but please don't let ur thinking be distorted! call a Spade a Spade.

cmon:

Have you seen the new Imo State Government Portal? That's the great handwork of my Gov. Ohakim. Now we imolites can have a good means of reaching the government because for them to put up such a website, you can expect they are always online to monitor activities.

I hope other state governors will step-up to something worth emulating or even contact the Imo State Government, with contact information all over the site, on how he carried out this project.

How can I forget. Hurry now to www.imostate.gov.ng especially if you are an imolite to register in the diaspora section. You never can tell the more numerous benefits awaiting you by doing so.

Just a happy imolite, See ya there.

@@@@

Mosttimes I wonder what we celebrate in Nigeria. We have unknowingly reduced our self to subhumans beings. We have agreed that our world is different
Cos I wonder why a state website should be ascribed as a great handiwork of a governor. As far as I am concerned If u need to praise any body praise the Civil servants in the Ministry of Information whose Job it is to provide such services.

Its is only in Nigeria that u have the president commissioning a single bore hole and NTA goes there makes it the prime news of the day and we are all happy .

We are just a pitable set of people whose thinking and expectation has been reduced,we need to knwo what is going on in other african countries , go to Ghana!

We need  militants that will blow this useless people up.

Pls i will be very happy to be recruited into any militant group that aims at bombing politicians in this country.

We are a nation of 140 million people only if we have 50 suicide bombers in this country to free the rest.

We better start helping ourselves instead of complaining.

Its the same way the oyibos colonized us cos we are afraid the same thing is happening now- only a few has kept led africans into slavery only a  few are wasting our lives in Nigeria.

Please if you are interested in this Noble task of killing( by bombing) these politicians one by one let me know.If we can successfully bomb 50 of them, the rest will watch out b4 stealing.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Philips Consulting Test by babalawo(m): 4:20pm On May 26, 2009
I don't think they have called experienced hands. experienced hands only needs interview and i think it only proper to deal with the entry level first taking into consideration the huge logistics in handling the number of entry applicant involved.

Lets keep our finger crossed.

But more on it,I think its only Savannah Bank that can actually mass recruit PRESENTLY in the banking industry in Nigeria, I have the feeling its going to be Savannah any other opinion?

Career / Re: Entry Level Package For Banks You Know? by babalawo(m): 12:47pm On Jul 13, 2007
@ ALL,
while its necessary to take not eof the entry point salary to banks it is far below on the scale to consider when seeking employment to banks
i know access just reviewd salary that why u have that big boom but believe me go ask bankers in the industry there are some banks u cant switch to because of:
agrresive demand on staff for marketing, poor welfare packages; and career progression and sort of
for insatnce my bank pays like 70 k for entry then after six month u get 2.5 and the progression is quite certain
if u compare the 70k to 2.6 of access as the only basis then ur ar screwed
my bank also have increased salaries consistently yearly for the three year i ve been working with them
for ur info intercontinental just increaed too
zenith is billed to increase this month
fcmb also just collapsed its salarries
let c how far we will go

well it depends on ur grade if u are a PIT in oceanic i bet it  u should move,ve been in oceanic 4 three 3 yrs now and though oceanic pays well within the nigerian banking content the PIT scheme just introduced set u back in terms of renumeration and years to  get confirmed-u understand me perfectly
so if your ar a PIT,then i will advice u should prepare for your interview pretend that ur sick for like 3 days before the interview date-bros u bi insider now-and then pray well to leave this hectic job
ITS NOT WORTH IT BEING A BANKER IN NIGERIA WHERE U EARN BIG AND SPEND ALMOST ALL ON FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND EVEN FOES .
Politics / Re: Press Release: Gov. Donald Duke Withdraws From The Presidential Race by babalawo(m): 7:18pm On Dec 16, 2006
Tayo that a good one . the generations of south south will not forgive duke and the rest south south aspirant for this cowardice.imagine what could has happened if all the south south governors and delegetes had boycoytted the convention. will the PDP stand?.
a total boucoutt by south south where for the past 8 years PDP had enjoyed bloc vote will definately mean a dead end to PDP considering tht the south west is at least simpathetic to her fellow south south people.and that the ANPP is the favorite party of the northerners.the north east ar not PDP neither is the north west.
All the states in the south south are all PDP
the south south can not have it close to a nigerian presient for life. its a complet shame to the south south.MEN OF EASY VIRTUE
Politics / Re: Yar'Adua: President In Waiting? by babalawo(m): 6:49pm On Dec 16, 2006
theops i feel u but plz dont curse nigeria
we all fell real bad about things  its a pity tht we going to have a typewriter president like yaardua. someone told me tht hes transparent and honest, but nigeria need more than that now we need a president that is on top of global economic issues
am sure if u ask yaardua how much crude oli price is now he cant tell, as him how many nigerian graduate are unemployed he will stammer.
he -yaaarua might be good in appropiating rightly the monthly sahre of kastina  state  but an average nigerian who is honest can do small.
for an economy thta is waiting to explode we dont just need a mediocre who can spend judiciously keep a reverse - as yaaradua is benn haile for but we need someone who can raise the internal revenue  have long time viable project concieved and implemented-long time project  that will increse the bottomline of  the govenmrnt and empower her people- this were the thing we saw in duke that endeared him to many nigerian youth heart.
what does yaardua knows about electronic capaigning? can he in his wildest dream conceive tinapa? is he exposed to the long time benefit of tourism industy potentials?. can he contribute in an intelligent debate, what is in his CV that will make the average nigerian youth emulate him
YAARDUA MIGHT NOT BE A BAD MAN BUT CERTAINLY HE CAN NOT MAKE IT TO THE TOP 50MILLION TO RULE NIGERIA.
albert eistein said we need a higher level of intellect to combact a problem of high dimension
Politics / Re: Yar'Adua: President In Waiting? by babalawo(m): 5:36pm On Dec 16, 2006
its only in nigeria that u will find a better candidate being the vice why not a duke/yaradua ticket instead of viceversa?. if u were on an interview panel and u were to recruit an ordinary farm manager betweeen duke and yaadua who will u choose? THE BEST IS NOT GOOD FOR NIGERIA WE ALL SEEM TO AGREE
