I studied French language (major) with 2:1 here in Nigeria. And I think I meet the financial requirements. I have a family of 3 and I really need to know which is the best possible route to relocate to france both to get good job, and secure permanent Residence for my family.
Would you advice securing a job there first? While i am still here, is it even possible? Or trying to get enrolled into a university for a Masters Program, and secure a job while studying. And what's the very first thing I need to do?
Kindly advice. |

Dear Fobak203 fobak203: The question "whats my fate in Australia' made me chuckle, but I will try to be as logical and sincere as possible. Although, there are some loose ends to your statement. You are a French graduate, does that mean you studied french, or you studied a particular which was not mentioned in France. Going the PR way, your wife is more aligned with the PR route, because she can go for a course in IT and she is younger. Going by the student visa way, you are the architect of your own building, if you can satisfy english, GTE, admission and financial requirement, any of you is good to go. But remember, who is more likely to get admission based on GTE that is one of which is relevance of the course should be the applicant and the other a dependent. In terms of getting a good job and get a good living. It is sure you would be fine, you might not necessarily get a good job, but my ideology is you can get a good pay depending on where you decide to start from and eventually settling down is not a problem and you would be happy you made that choice on relocation. On going about the entire process, I and some experts have incessantly posted how to go about the whole process on here. Start from page 1-5 and then you can put my name in the search tab and see some of my step-by-step on how to go about getting a student visa
Cheers

bellong: Departure
I initially planned to book my ticket with IOM but I couldn't get the package I wanted, I had to book through a travel agent friend. I wanted to first travel to Turkey for one week before continuing the journey to Australia. I got the ticket I wanted at a cheaper price to what IOM would have offered me for the direct flight.
I left Lagos in May 2015 via Egypt airlines for Istanbul, Turkey. There was a 9 hour stop over in Cairo, the airline lodged us in their 4 star hotel till the next flight. I continued from Cairo to Istanbul. I spent one week in Turkey to pay a visit to old friends before leaving from Istanbul to Dubai with Emirates airline on the same ticket from Lagos.
On the day I was leaving from Istanbul, the airport was very very busy as we had to queue for taxi for about 35 minutes. The pilot showed us the long queue via the onboard screen. Due to this delay at Istanbul airport, we didn't arrive Dubai on time for my connecting flight. Therefore, Emirates airline had no choice but to lodge me in their hotel. The next flight was in about 28 hours. This gave me the opportunity to tour Dubai city and still had enough rest. It was only unfortunate that the Emirate's staff in Dubai didn't allow me to go free with my excess baggage I managed to get through from Istanbul
The next day arrived for my flight from Dubai to Adelaide......
Arrival
I declared everything I came with on the immigration card, I had no issues with customs but was picked out for immigration drilling and questioning. It was a friendly questioning anyway but thorough. I didn't understand why until after spending some days listening to news I understood why I was singled out.
The time I arrived coincided with the period when many Australians of Middle Eastern extractions were leaving Australia through Turkey to join ISIL. The immigration officer was concerned on why I had to first go to Turkey before coming to Australia when I have a PR. The thinking was maybe I am a recruiter for ISIL or went to Turkey to get package for local contact etc. After giving convincing answers to all the questions asked, I was allowed to go.
Lessons: You can get good travel/ticket deal aside IOM if you are not doing a direct flight. In addition, you can enjoy two four start hotel like I did in the same ticket
Look well, compare ticket prices around and don't forget other factors like baggage allowance, comfort, stop over and if you will be lodged. Let it be confirmed that there will be hotel accommodation for stop over more than 7 hours before committing to pay.
At the immigration entry point, when singled out for questioning, don't fidget. Answer all questions with confidence, be sure of what you are saying and be consistent. Don't give unsolicited answers, only answer the questions you are asked. Be friendly, firm and relaxed while answering. Remember that they are only doing their job in keeping the integrity of the border.

gunpoint: Hi everyone. If you are coming here solely to chase residency and you have a core science background (meaning you studied Maths, Physics, Chemistry, IT, Engineering, Biology etc) and you wana go by the study route (that is using school here to get PR), a cheap and tested option is to come and do the PGD in teaching (not education oh, TEACHING). Its relatively cheap, its only 12 mnts and it will get you PR. Ofcos you have to apply for another course at the end of this PGD while you PR is loading but you can then do any course your heart truly desires, knowing fully well your PR is in the pipeline. And the beauty about it is you can work as a teacher and earn good money while studying that course you originally wanted to study. Please reconfirm which of the levels is on the SOL again as there is preschool teacher, primary school teacher and secondary school teacher and i believe at this time they are still all on the list. For now SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHER is best, however, always check before you apply. Another benefit of using a 12month course to chase PR is you can be done before immigration rules change again. And did i mention its relatively cheap and teachers earn good money? Yes I did

Yeeshas: Hello All,
Hope everyone is doing great? So I have been meaning to come here to share my story after I landed in Sydney, Australia, but life has been from one event to the other but tonight, I had to stop myself to do this.
Before I start, I wanna give a shout out to Bellong and say a big thank you for starting this Australian thread because I cannot emphasize the tremendous help we got from the nairaland thread during our application process from start to finish. So let me cut straight to it.
We landed in Sydney Australia by midnight sometime in January and because it was that time of the night, our luggage was only scanned but not thoroughly checked so I guess we got away with all our food items. We were accommodated by a family whom we connected with through a dear friend of ours. We stayed with this family for two weeks after which we then moved to our own apartment.
Getting our apartment was not a walk in the park, we were simply favored. One agent wanted to swindle us of an additional $350 because he perceived we were newbies and desperate to move to our own place, we didn't fall for it because he was asking us to make the payment for the 'paper works'he was going to prepare for us because we didn't meet the 100 points criteria in order to secure an accommodation. Anyway, to cut the long story short, we threatened to report him but eventually moved on to search for other properties, he later called us back and gave us the property without the 'paperwork' fee.
We currently live in Liverpool, a 2 bedroom apartment for $350 per week and I must say it isn't bad at all. The apartment comes with a communal pool and a basketball court. We have never used it though. It is also close to everything, train station, the mall, medical centre and all.
Our first two weeks after arriving here was very rough, one because of the jetlag and then the paperwork, job-hunt, house-hunt, add to the fact that we were putting up with a family we were meeting for the first time. It wasn't exactly the best of experience but we are grateful. Things began to ease out after we moved to our own apartment.
Regarding job search, the truth is that my husband and I were open-minded and were not very selective at first because we had gathered info here on nairaland about starting off and all. My husband got a Warehouse job a day after we moved to our apartment and he was asked to start immediately, four days later, he got another job offer at Fujitsu as a Stock Plan Administrator which is basically data entry and administering the company's stock plans, although this job is better for him, however, it is not in line with his career. He has a background in Network Security and so has currently enrolled in a scholarship program in Cyber Security. The Australian govt. is currently investing in the Cyber Security industry because of shortage in the skill availability.
We immediately enrolled our Son in daycare so I could attend interviews. We were paying $465 per week until his immunization was updated and we now pay $143 per week for 5 days because of childcare rebate. We also got the outstanding back after his childcare rebate was activated. We attend Hillsong church and I must say it's a beautiful place to worship. We didn't get a car yet because we are very close to the train station and our son's daycare is only a street away plus we are saving up to buy a very good car too.
I left my job story for the last because I am extremely grateful to God for this and I also wanted to use it to encourage folks coming down here. After about 2 weeks of job search, I got a Customer Service job at a Telecoms company called BSA where I was a Remediation officer. I earned $26 per hour and it was a contract job. After 3 weeks or so of working there, my shift got changed to 11 am - 7 pm shift and so I had to stop work because my Son's daycare closes by 6 pm and you pay $1 per minute for every minute after 6 pm.
I applied for more jobs and granted a couple of interviews and as God would have it, on one of those days, I made an application for a job with 'Private Advertiser" written on it. (I am normally reluctant to apply for such vacancies) but I went ahead anyway and then I was asked to answer a couple of questions and write a cover letter. (these were things I didn't like doing but I did it anyway). A day later, I got a call from a guy saying he was from Samsung Australia and if I could come in for an interview and I'm like "Absolutely"! To cut the story short, after 2 stages of the interview (one individual and another group interview) with very intimidating guys especially because I don't have the Australian 'phoneee'accent, I was a bit intimidated by these other candidates. Anyway, I got the job and it is a permanent job with amazing pay and benefits including a 4-week annual paid leave, 10 days paid carer's leave, 50 percent staff discount off Samsung products and several other benefits. Why did I take the pain to spell out some of the benefits? Because when we came into Australia, some people told us it was hard to get a permanent job as a newbie and even a professional job for that matter and bla bla but this is really not the case. If you believe it, then you can have it.
I currently work as a VOC Case Manager at the Samsung head office in Australia. The role simply means dispute management, processing of refunds, repairs, exchange and what not, pretty much making a disgruntled customer happy again.
Its been a little over three months since we came here and we can't be more grateful to God for how He has settled us quickly and in ways we didn't even imagine. Generally its easy to save here as long as you don't live above your means.
I'll stop here and I wish you all the very best.
PS: I also resumed Uni for my Master's degree at the University of Sydney but I have now put that on hold for some time because I work full time and it was too much for me so I suspended it for now.
Please ma'am will like to chat with you ma. I need the process of how we you go about it. Ma.

milloguy: First of all..Mo Abudu is not Amaechi's girlfriend. Let's stop this beer parlour gossip.
Second of all, this $43m discovery is a huge scam. Nigerians need to start realizing how this leaders take us for a roller coaster ride. This is just a distraction set up by the government to pretend like they are fighting corruption. You don't fight corruption by digging up cash..You fight corruption by jailing the culprits..Gathering evidence against them and locking them up. Just today, James Ibori was being celebrated in Anioma, Delta State and yet we claim we have EFCC who are now gold miners...
The people in government that can siphone to the tune of $43m are the high Calibre thieves who don't need tunnels because they can easily wire to offshore accounts like Cayman, Panama and Cyprus..They are not going to keep that money in any apartment in Nigeria..This is just a cat and dog story ...2019 I'm watching!!! |
