Religion / Pope"s Resignation : Matters Arising by badjack(m): 11:15pm On Feb 24, 2013
Much talked resignation of Pope Benedict XVI. I know some of you may disagree with me. I am not surprise that this is happening now. Pope Benedict XVI had no business becoming Pope in the first place. The unnecessary politics in the Vatican warranted this whole thing.

After Pope John Paul II, it was obvious that the next Pope was supposed to be Cardinal Arinze. The racism in the Catholic Church took over this reality. It is a very big shame that the Catholic Church that has been around for over 1000 years has not gotten a simple black Pope or from another race other than Caucasian. Don’t get me wrong, I am not racist but I will see justice in a situation where in my church, I will be taken as a second class citizen just because of my race. That is smelly. I am a good Catholic but I am not comfortable with the racist politics going on in the secretive Vatican.

The real truth about Pope Benedict’s resignation is that there are lots of pressures on him towards liberalization. He as conservative is not ready to bend the age long laws of the Catholic Church. Some of these laws are Women ordination, Condoms, abortion, contraceptives, handling sexual abuses by priest to minor, the ever increasing divorce cases and the role people divorce will play in the Church.

The liberalists are growing in number and influence. This is unsettling the pope. Some of them are even powerful in the Vatican and in the hierarchy of the Catholic Church.
John Paul was shot at close range; he survived but did not resign. He even had Parkinson disease but did not resign. He continues till death. So be the judge yourself.

Education / University That Produced More Billionaires Than Others by badjack(m): 10:41am On Feb 22, 2013
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has its hedge-fund quants, the University of Southern California has its movie moguls. But if you really want your child to be a billionaire, you might want to send them to Harvard.
Harvard has graduated some 52 billionaires, with a collective fortune of $205 billion, to lead Wealth-X's global list of universities ranked by alumni worth $1 billion or more. That's nearly twice as many as the No. 2 school, the University of Pennsylvania, which has 28 billionaire alumni worth a collective $112 billion.
And these numbers don't include either Microsoft (MSFT)'s Bill Gates or Facebook (FB)'s Mark Zuckerberg, both of whom attended Harvard but didn't stay to get their degree. Together they are worth some $45 billion.

Before dismissing Harvard is a domain of rich kids who mostly inherit their wealth, consider that the school also claimed the highest percentage of self-made billionaires in the study. Seventy-four percent of the school's billionaire alumni "built that," Wealth-X found.
"It shows the power of networks," said David Friedman, president of Wealth-X. "Harvard has this entrenched, powerful network that extends across so many sectors and is incredibly pro-active about connecting its alumni. You get a great education, but you also get access."
Harvard's success, said Friedman, "validates what we all whisper and now we know: It's not just what you know, it's who you know."

Other schools can boast about their networks, too, particularly those with lines into technology and other leading fields for growing wealth.
As the chart below shows, Stanford University, in the heart of Silicon Valley, has 27 billionaires to its credit, ranking third. M.I.T., sixth on the list with 15 billionaires, has sprinkled its number-crunching analysts throughout Wall Street and hedge funds. The University of Cambridge, the only school outside the United States to make the top 10, is a high-tech leader in the U.K.

And in the broader category of ultra-high-net-worth individuals, which Wealth-X defines as those worth $30 million or more, "there are smaller clusters of successful graduates who have drawn in other alumni," Friedman noted. The University of Virginia, for instance, has many fewer billionaires, but outdid Harvard for the highest percentage of self-made wealthy, at 79 percent.
Monash University, in Melbourne, Australia, is a launching pad for women. Seventeen percent of their ultra-high-net-worth graduates are women. Among top American universities, Northwestern and Brown are conducive to female wealth with 15 percent and 14 percent.

But Harvard led in every other category in the Wealth-X rankings. Its ultra-high-net-worth graduates' sheer numbers - totaling close to 3,000 - and their outsized total net worth of $622 billion is enough to make parents whose children won't be going feel left out.

Some quick math, Friedman pointed out, provides a little balm for those suffering from elite education envy. In all, the universities mentioned in Wealth-X's report have helped create 14,355 ultra-high-net-worth individuals out of a total global population of more than 186,000, or about 7 percent. "That leaves 93 percent of the world's super-rich," Friedman said, "who did just fine without attending a top ranked school."

Family / Sperrm Donor Told To Pay For Child,s Upkeep by badjack(m): 12:08am On Jan 04, 2013
A Kansas, USA man who donated sperrm to a lesbian couple so they could have a child said on Wednesday he is shocked the state is now trying to make him pay child support.

William Marotta, 46, donated sperm to Jennifer Schreiner and Angela Bauer under a written agreement that he would not be considered the father of the child nor liable for child support. A daughter, now 3, was born to Schreiner.

But in October, the state of Kansas filed a petition seeking to have Marotta declared the father of the child and financially responsible for her after the couple encountered money difficulties.

Marotta will ask the court in a hearing January 8 to dismiss the claim, which centers on a state law that the sperm must be donated through a licensed physician in order for the father to be free of any later financial obligations. Marotta gave a container of semen to the couple, who found him on Craigslist, instead of donating through a doctor or clinic.

The case is seen as having repercussions for other sperm donors. Sperm banks routinely provide sperm to people who want to conceive a child on the understanding that the donors are not responsible for the children.

Kansas is seeking child support from Marotta, including about $6,000 in medical expenses related to the child's birth, according to its petition.

"This was totally unexpected," Marotta said in a phone interview. "The very first thing that went through my mind was that no good deed goes unpunished."

The case has attracted national attention. Shannon Minter, legal director for the National Center for Lesbian Rights, said Wednesday "it is unfortunate and unfair" that Kansas is seeking money from a sperm donor.

"It certainly might have a negative effect on other men's willingness to help couples who need a donor, which would be harmful to everyone," Minter said.

"I also think it undermines everyone's respect for the law when you see it operate so arbitrarily."

Kansas officials are required under the law to determine the father of a child when someone seeks state benefits, said Angela de Rocha, spokeswoman for the Department for Children and Families. The couple was compelled to provide that information, which led to investigation of the sperm donation.

Marotta should be declared the father and subject to financial claims because he donated the sperm directly to the women and not through a physician, as required by Kansas law, the state's petition states.

Marotta said he's had virtually no contact with the child, but that he and Schreiner have remained cordial. He said she was pressured by the state to provide his name as the sperm donor.

"To me, ethics need to override rules," he said.

Lawyers for Marotta argue that he had no parental rights because of his agreement with the couple and cannot be held financially responsible.

They cite a 2007 case in which the Kansas Supreme Court ruled against a sperm donor seeking parental rights because he did not have any such agreement with the mother, lawyers for Marotta said.

"So now, we are flipping the argument around," Marotta attorney Ben Swinnen said Wednesday.

If the father had no legal parental rights in the 2007 case, Marotta should be declared to have no parental obligations in the current case, Swinnen said.

Marotta, a race car mechanic, responded to an ad on Craigslist from someone offering to pay $50 for sperm donations, but he made the donation for free. Marotta said he and his wife have no children of their own but have fostered a daughter. Marotta said he was simply trying to help a couple wanting a child.

Jokes Etc / Human Beings And Wickedness by badjack(m): 2:02pm On Jan 02, 2013
Humans are the most wicked living things created by God. I am saying this because of what they do other animals. The eat the meat of other animals and drink their milk with all impunity. They fry the milk of cow turning it into powdered milk. They fry meat of other animals producing fried meat, meat pepper soup, suya, sauce etc. It is very worrisome. A lot of animals die everyday because our desire to eat and drink.
Check out these quotations.

If we're not supposed to eat animals, how come they're made out of meat?” by Tom Snyder

I love milk so much! I make a point of drinking a glass of milk every day. So now anyone who did those milk ads with the milk mustaches, they're my heroes. by Natalie Portman

Checkout this suggestion from another foolish man that is not satisfied with cow milk.

There are many other kinds of milk available. Why don't we try drinking rats' milk and dogs' milk? Heather Mills
Why not we try the milk of other animals. Well count me out for pig milk or ant milk. I may manage goat milk, horse milk, dog milk( am not sure if I will drink that), rabbit milk, pussy milk. Suggest others men for I am tire only cow milk.

Politics / Open Letter To My President. by badjack(m): 1:05pm On Jan 02, 2013
Sir,
It is very disheartening that you have allowed things to degenerate the way it is now. You have allowed all the frustrations that Nigerians were gathering since the inception of the present so called democratic dispensation to fall heavily on your administration and you as a person. You forgot that people saw you as a very different person and massively voted for you. Your coming into office was with very great expectations. Eventually, nothing of these expectations can be seen on the ground. What we see everyday is claims of improvement here and there that cannot be verified.

In all your broadcasts we here the improvements in power, railway, investment, job, economic statistics etc. It really marvels me because I can know that there is nothing to write home about in all the whole claims of improvements on that and that. Power for instance only increased on paper not on realistic operational output. Less I forget, over $16 billions dollars as claimed have been spent(siphoned) in other to fix the problem of power in this country with nothing to show. Very appalling situation we are in here in Nigeria.

You tell us that the problem of Nigeria is attitudinal issues. I quite disagree sir. Nigerian love their country but most of them are frustrated based on the actions of politician here. Corruption is very high and you are telling us that the issue is attitude. Whose attitude if I may ask? Governors steal money at easy, take it abroad and nothing is done. The highest we will see is the drama of EFCC. The EFCC will arrest, take to court, the case will drag and will die down with nothing to see of it. We have seen most them, Ibori, Orji Uzor Kalu, Fayose, Gbenga Daniel, Sylva etc. We all are seeing what happened to Ibori after her was left off the hook here in Nigeria. He even pleaded guilty in Britain. Corruption is highest under your administration. I tend to believe that you have a hand in corruption too that is why you are condoning it. You have a big dirty skeleton in your cupboard which other corrupt people know about and you want to protect it.
On Niger-Delta and Bayelsa precisely, their is a very high level of unhappiness. Bayelsa is a state in great shambles with little federal presence. I wonder if another president that is not a Bayelsan will have that job after you. By the way, I am writing you from Yenagoa. Though I am not a Bayelsan but I have been living in that nice small town for the past 6 years. Look at the East-West road which is the only outlet from Bayelsa to other parts of the country. Please fix that road no matter whose interest is at play. I know of the interest of Mr. Fix it ( old Man Tony Annenih) on SETRACO, but the truth is that SETRACO are not doing any thing. Tony Annenih is in the past as long as Nigeria politics is concern. You will be disappointed with him if you continue looking at his fix it attribute. Dump him for the sake of wonderful Bayelsan my-In-laws and other people living in Bayelsa.

Please Sir, speed up things this year as you promised to revive your prestige and your administrations prestige. Sorry but a lot of Nigerians are labeling you administration as being the worst the country has had so far. You have two years and some months the rewrite History for your own sake.

Thanks my-in-law and God bless you.
