Nice one bro, please keep it coming |

@Boylu, You have made a very valid point, however i think it's ok for gifted artistes to make money out of their talents, but those i have issues with are those trying too had to get fame and wealth from what they are not good at . . . . . |

AS the agitation for and against Super Eagles Chief Coach, Shaibu Amodu rages, his assistant and former Eagles forward, Daniel ‘The Bull’ Amokachi has advanced reasons why the criticisms against his boss is fierce. In an interview with a group of Vanguard Editors, Amokachi volunteered reasons why the Eagles must be in the 2010 World Cup even though he appeared sceptical about their chances which became dicey after the painful barren draw against the Mambas of Mozambique in Maputo last month. Daniel ‘The Bull’ Amokachi According to Amokachi, who, apart from being a member of the Super Eagles technical crew, also analyses football on a pay television, a lot of people are lobbying to take over from Amodu if he is sacked but failed to name those involved. “I think it is the name (Amodu) that people do not want there. A lot of people are lobbying for that same position and that’s the problem. People only talk when we lose a match (but) nobody talks about the sacrifices we make to achieve good results. When a player is so much criticized, he has problems likewise the coach. If Amodu is not strong, he would have gone cripple,” he said in the interview published in this edition of Saturday Vanguard. Amokachi said following the draw, he told Amodu that a lot of criticisms will come from Nigerians but wondered where in the world a coach who played seven games and won six is vilified except in Nigeria. “I told Amodu that the critics will surely come. Show me anywhere in the world where a coach will play seven games, win six and lose one, then you are asking for his head. It’s not done anywhere as far as football is concerned,” he said. Stressing that the problem with the Maputo game was that the Eagles played a crowded game, the former Everton of England player said that the team must qualify for two reasons, one, because they didn’t qualify for the 2006 edition in Germany and two, because the 2010 edition is happening on African soil. “They (Eagles) have to do everything possible to be there and possibly win the cup because in football everything is possible. We have Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroun, Cote d’Ivoire. At any day or time Cote d’Ivoire can win a World Cup. Same to Nigeria, or Cameroun. So I believe that the cup is not leaving Africa,” he said. Disclosing that he was among the people that recommended either Amodu or Stephen Keshi be given the Eagles job, Amokachi said “Nobody is happy with the team right now. Our target now is to focus on the next game and make sure we win. All he (Amodu) needs now is our support and not cutting of his head for a foreign coach.” Amokachi who told the Vanguard Editors that everything would be done to qualify the team for South Africa including inviting Dickson Etuhu in subsequent matches said that “In Nigeria coaches are not given enough time and support to groom the players. We’ve gone to Maputo and all the players are back to their clubs. Few days before the next match they’ll all gather again and still we’ll have less time to prepare for Kenya.” He said his personal opinion would have been that the country forgets the 2010 World Cup and concentrates on the 2014 edition scheduled to hold in Brazil http://www.vanguardngr.com/content/view/34337/170/ |

@ Dotman01, Read my posts very well, i never spoke about tribalism(Yoruba or not), i spoke on sentiments, patronage and politics,ok . |

@ Eleshin, Your only point seem to be that HHWA are the best and most credible award presently in Nigeria, ok let's assume thats correct. Are you saying cos they are "credible" that makes them infallible? Let me remind you that, at every point in the history of Nigerian music industry, there has always been a credible award, but gradually they lost grip and while some has since gone underground others are only struggling to stay afloat. Remember AMEN Awards? For HHWA to remain relevant and permanently stamp their authority in the Nigerian Music scene, they have to shun "paddy paddyism" , and be open to constructive criticism, else they we go the way of other extinct "credible awards" . |

They were the best band by miles, however, without taking anything away from them; that song "Sotey" does not sound original to me. On the whole, they have got talent, abilities, potentials and charisma. Kudos The Pulse! |

afam4eva:I concur @ Topic, Not surprised. . . . Only Psquare, D'banj, Tuface, Faze and 9ice enjoys nationwide street credibility and acceptance |

There can be figures with maybe 90% accuracy, but most of our artistes choose to inflate these figures . . . .they lie about it for hype and favourable ratings, mind you, this won't stop cos it works for them . . . . |

Even though the poster of this thread hasn't been very articulate in putting his views across, thereby diminishing the cogency of some salient points, but we all know that there is too much sentiments, patronage and politics involved in HHWA. Here are a few posers Tuface's Album has no business on the list of nominees for the Album of the Year category, the reason is simple; going by the award prerequisites for this category i.e { excellence in every realm: songwriting, production, rendition, promotion and acceptability (sales, popularity)}. My understanding of this is that any album for nomination here must at the time under review pass the test of excellence in songwriting, rendition, promotion, acceptability(sales and popularity) Tuface's album which was released around middle of december remember the duration of the year under review is still yet to pick up in sales popularity, acceptability and even the production in some of the tracks are very amateurish, so on what grounds was it nominated? Sentiments? Let me not go further, i simply refer you to the review of the said album done by Hiphopworldmagazine.com, which coincidentally is the official website of the organisers of the awards. Yeah they used sentiments here, kind of using the nomination for the promotion of Tuface's album, but even though Ayo needed to do that, he should have used other categories of the award certainly not this category! Am a fan of Mode9 and every other good rapper in Nigeria, but his album on the nominees list for album of the Year? How? Djinee as Next Rated, we all know this is laughable. If someone isn't good enough for nomination don't squeeze him into a category by all means,ok. Sentiments On the rap album category, if Ajasa can be on that list, why not Nigga Raw should? i guess most people havent really listened to this dudes last album, it's not spectacular but it's a good one, good enough for nomination. On the "Recording of the year" category, out of sentiments, one song was conspicuously omitted; Originality by Faze, but am not surprised he is not here, cos he hasn't been on the organiser's good books since the "Akon interview controversy" even last year when they "grudgingly" gave him 5 nomination, they "took it back" on the awards night, my guy went home without a single plaque even though he merited atleast 2, yeah 2, quote me. On the Street Hop category, where is Durella? where is Bigiano, am not a fan of KcPresh, but their Shokoribobo should be right there on that list. And you guys ever heard of Mini mini wana by Maleke Ft. Cyrus de Virus, Franchize & Pc Dre? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuIJY3zCR-0&feature=related that was the most popular song in he streets of Benin last year I can go on and on, but i think those few are enough for now, and one advice for the organisers of the awards thats if they are not doing it already; they should start taking down the names and songs for possible nomination from the beginning of the year to be reviewed, they shouldn't wait until the end of the year before they start compiling, cos there is no way you can mentally playback the impact a particular song once made/had. This would deliver them from the temptation of nominating songs released in the last quarter of the year which is still more in their consciousness, thereby disregarding "early hits" . Lastly before i shut down my computer, let me put in a word or two for Duncan Mighty and on the Lagos based/local champion stuff. First and foremost, Duncan Mighty deserves a nomination, you know why? That guy is damn talented and has a huge fan base in the south, exactly the type Timaya had 2 years ago when he had a nomination/award, besides, even Benin based Cyrus de Virus who had a nomination(Next rated category) too in the last edition, up till now does not have half of the followership Duncan Mighty commands. I can remember when peeps like us where making a case for Timaya sometime back, alot of you fellow nairalanders didn't see what we had already seen in the now exploded Timaya. Let me stun you more, apart from 9ice, Dbanj, and Timaya, no other artiste sold more album units than Duncan Mighty last year, his songs are anthems in the whole south south. Anyway, nomination or not, time would vindicate Duncan Mighty. And mind you Duncan Mighty is only one of the numerous talented artistes scattered all over the country, we are not saying HHWA should give all the nominations/awards to these "local champs" atleast a little percentage would do; they deserve it! As for Lagos being the commercial capital of Nigeria, that's a settled fact, but it is not your residing in Lagos that makes you blow, rather, it is your talent that does, |

BENIN—THE crisis rocking the University of Benin (UNIBEN) over the appointment of Professor Uche Gbenedio as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University (UNIBEN) was laid to rest yesterday, as the Governing Council of the institution confirmed the election of the Provost, College of Medicine of the university, Professor Emmanuel Kubenje as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor. Professor Gbenedio’s removal was sequel to a directive to the senate from the Governing Council of the university, led by Professor Mmuendaga Jibo, which mandated the senate of the university to conduct a proper election so as to ensure that due process was followed. It was learnt, however, that when the senate sat last Friday for the meeting, a court order was served on the senate to stop further deliberation on the election of a new acting vice-chancellor, but Vanguard learnt that the meeting went on after all and Professor Kubenje emerged as the new acting vice-chancellor. Chairman of the Governing Board, Professor Jibo, who confirmed the election of Professor Kubenje as the Acting Vice-Chancellor to newsmen, when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Adams Oshiomhole at Government House Benin City, said the earlier appointment of Professor Gbenedio did not follow due process. According to him, a mistake of the past had to be corrected. He said: “We have a directive from the Federal Ministry of Education to follow due process in the appointment of an acting vice-chancellor and that is what we have done. “The issue is that the former acting vice-chancellor was appointed before the Council came in. And according to the university law, only council can properly appoint. So we are accelerating the process of appointing a substantive vice-chancellor now, that was part of our deliberation today”. Asked about the court order stopping the appointment of a new acting vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Jibo said “there was no court injunction. We are in a democratic system, any body aggrieved can go to court and when the court rules in his or her favour, we shall respect court decision”. Commenting also, the new Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kubenje, said they are working hard for the emergence of a substantive vice-chancellor, disclosing also that he would not be running for the position. “ As it is now, there are no aggrieved party any more. We are the aggrieved party before because we wanted due process and we got it,” he said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/content/view/32972/44/ |
