Travel / Re: Ugly Britain by beelala: 5:32pm On Oct 29, 2008
wowwwwww, this is the best thread for me-- because i really took time to read all the comments.

i am based in Nigeria.

Well, its cool for us to see the other side of UK but whether we like it or not, We still have a lot of work to do to take Nigeria to that level of organisation and development.

Nigeria's biggest problem is the Leaders/Military that mismanaged the country that is the reason why some of our best brains are outside the country, even the politicians and the rich guys have european citizens as kids, send their wards to recieve quality education in these Countries.

Well, its a shame the way some of those guys harassed Pafun because of these humorous thread. Well, they are britons (no more Nigerians) dont blame them.

If Nigeria gets better, or if they have the opportunities they will rush back to become Governors or Ministers. i wish them the best, but the way you guys swear now.

Ahhh!!!

Politics / Lastma And The Traffic Lights In Maryland. by beelala: 10:10am On Sep 05, 2008
Please, has anybody been caught by LASTMA at the dreaded Maryland. wow, Its an horrible experience!!! The traffic lights there are bad and malfunctioning but i guess it favours the LASTMA officials stationed at the traffic lights i.e. the traffic lights when you are going towards ikeja from ikorodu road.

The traffic lights there shows red but it doesnt show amber and green lights, so when the red light goes off the cars start moving until it suddenly changes to red. Immediately the LASTMA officials jump on the road and accost at least a driver with the excuse that you have violated a traffic offence by beating the traffic light.

i was caught last week and i had to pay them N4,000.00 otherwise they promised to ruin my day by taking me to their office, where my car would be parked then i would go to the bank to pay the levy, then i would go for psychiatric test before i now take the car.

My God, i was devastated and for the next few days, i wondered how i beat the traffic light only for me to find out that the lights are bad.

i believe the LASTMA officials know that the lights are bad and they delibrately capitalise on it so BEWARE OF LASTMA AND MARYLAND TRAFFIC LIGHTS.

Career / Re: Any Hope For Those "Unfortunate" To Have Finished With 3rd Class? by beelala: 6:44pm On May 13, 2008
My Gee.

third class would certainly limit your chances in getting into a bank or telecomms or oil sector (nb:LIMIT NOT IMPOSSIBLE)

However, It doesnt stop you from from having great ideas and following up with them, even to the extent of being a very successful business man.

Well, considering Nigeria and the business hurdles one need to cross, you might want a paid job, In that case, you have to bid your time by acquiring extra skills or qualifications and in most (nb: Most not all) cases you start from a small company where you get experiences on the job and also develop yourself by acquiring certificates.

So, my guy, third class. no mean say you no go get there (ie. the top) might just be hard.

and Take note a lot of 2:1 and first class are just being paid heavy pay in Banks and Oil companies are not fulfilled too because these are brains that should go into research and education but thats Nigeria (happens in other countrie too sha ooo) for you, well most of them cant take risks as well.

With you, you can take a lot of risks. and with hardwork, being smart and Gods grace. you will SMILE.

Megzyone:

Fellow Nairalanders,

I just wanted to add a few comments following recent postings by some people regarding Fairliegh Dickinson University Scholarships. Comments like the ones posted by Beelala and Jarod certainly would not encourage individuals that may have beneficial information to share.

To the two of them all I can say is I have not asked you for money nor directed anyone to come to me for anything.

that would be the next step.

Education / Re: "My Names Are" Or "My Name Is"? by beelala: 3:06pm On Apr 09, 2008
in the university, it was comrade-like (to show you are a rebel against the universitY authority) to use " my names are, "

However, the correct english is My name is ,

Not my opinion but check this dictionary site out, http://www.reference.com/search?q=my%20names%20are&r=d&db=web.

Most Nigerian english sucks and by the nature of our birth, a lot of us are guilty. e.g nigerian english even in the dailies (neck to neck) but the correct english is neck and neck finish.

Career / Re: NIIT: Are They Worth It? by beelala: 10:06am On Apr 09, 2008
i worked in aptech in 2002 as a faculty(instructor) and i also have a friend that joined aptech from niit in 2002. my younger brother finshed his course in aptech this year.

so i can talk about aptech- v.i centre. it is a good school and worth the investment. their programs are broad (from database to programming, from vb.net, java, microsoft office, sql).

however, you must have the passion yourself, study and practise.

niit-- there books are good, their certificate is hot and they have the name but their programs are streamlined-- e.g u go in 4 java or u say u go in for database. mostly favours professional (my own opinion) trying to get into a new technology.

however, there are cheaper schools especially in lagos.

my advise, if you cant go to any other cheap school go to aptech. i spent 280k funding my bros education there. for a 1 year program. the guy said it was worth it.!!!
