Spot on!
Flosmythbert:

As a Lawyer, I affirm the soundness and accuracy of your first sentence. As for the rest of the post, we can only hope. The only overt and visible factor that will indicate that the court's direction on status quo has been flouted is the release of APL, because neither the court nor the Plaintiff is privy to the other internal processes attending the recruitment, so those will likely continue unabated.

Dear Larride,
There's what we call contextual usage... In law, when the judge or magistrate asks the parties involved to maintain status quo, it means that any activity that was on going should stop... No further activities should take place on the existing state of affairs. So that when the case is finally decided, the object in question would still have value to the winner, because the usage or the progressive activities on that subject or object can be detrimental.

Let's say we are contesting ownership over a car, and the land is in your custody, the court would order that you maintain status quo, and that means you should stop any further activity on that land, if you were building and the house is at lintel level, you are not to add one more block to that house, so that when the matter is decided and I win the matter, I won't have a full house to bring down or I won't be given a Herculean task by how you built the said house.

There’s something called clickbait headline. You can go check the meaning.

They know most of you won’t even read the write up of the news, just read the headline and run to town with it.

If someone that read the write up is still arguing the meaning of status quo, now imagine those that just read the headline. grin

Why should we take your words over that of the D.G.?

Because its not rocket science to do a verification exercise by yourself with the aid of the internet. Below is a link from 2 years ago stating how many graduates are mobilized yearly. Even if we know it could be lower or highe, lets use 200,000 graduates from 2010, it gives you almost half of the 4 million the OP quoted earlier.

Lol... I wonder where you guys get this stat of 26 million applying for this recruitment when NYSC gave a report the other day that the total number of Nigerian's that have taking part in the mandatory service scheme is just over 4 million since inception in 1973. Abi even secondary schools grad apple grin, anyway it is not important at this stage.

Let me get you straight, are you trying to say that we only have 4 million graduates in this country that went through NYSC since 1973? The answer is NO. Only the number of those who took the exemption certificate should cover or be more than that 4 million. Do you know how many JAMB applicants we had this year 1.9 million.

Furthermore, this recruitment by NNPC caught the attention of many, not just recent graduates. Many people are looking for job security and that's why they applied. The number of applicants may not be 26 million but the website got clicks and views that was about that number.
