Politics / Re: Obama In Nigeria, Oh Sorry, Ghana! by benlay(m): 9:26am On Jul 15, 2009
It's just that we need to wake up from our self acclaimed "giant of Africa" slumber. Those small countries in Africa are leaving us behind apart from the fact from Ghana recorded 1 of the most peaceful transition of govt in Africa continent, security reports on Nigeria is nothing to write home about. Pls read
The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of travel to Nigeria and recommends avoiding all but essential travel to the Niger Delta states of Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers. Violent crime is a problem in Lagos and other large cities as well as on the roads between cities. Tension between some Muslim and Christian communities, and between ethnic groups, occasionally results in violence, but is not directed specifically against American citizens. This replaces the Travel Warning for Nigeria dated October 30, 2007, to note restrictions on travel to the Delta region due to violence and to clarify regions of concern.

American citizens should defer all but essential travel to the Niger Delta states of Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers because of the continued risks of kidnapping, robbery, and other armed attacks in these areas, especially against oil-related facilities and other infrastructure. A loose alliance of militant groups has conducted a number of attacks, mostly in Rivers state, against oil installations and posts of the Nigerian military’s Joint Task Force (JTF), which is attempting to eradicate the militant camps. Since January 2008, over 44 foreign national oil workers or businesspeople in parts of the Niger Delta region have been kidnapped from off-shore and land-based oil facilities, residential compounds, and public roadways. The Nigerian government considers militant camps and surrounding areas in the Delta region states of Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers to be conflict areas. Travel by foreigners to these areas without prior consultation and coordination with local security authorities is not recommended, as the Nigerian Government may see this activity as inappropriate and potentially illegal. Nigerian authorities detained six American citizens, including journalists, on six separate occasions, in this same region in 2008. The Nigerian government interrogated these Americans for lengthy periods without bringing formal charges, and ultimately deported them. Journalists are required to obtain a license from the Ministry of Information prior to traveling to conflict areas in the Niger Delta region sta

i am not surprised cos that's what they all do, pass it into law and let;s see the implementation being carried out by law enforcement agencies later, u can't be a judge in your own case, their job is to pass into law, leave the law enforcement to others, they were not sincere, they are not representing anyone anyway but their pockets, people who wanna represent masses that kill themselves to get into power, i know they have sickle cells. they should go to 'heck'.

Politics / We Were Offered Bribes To Rig Elections - Iwu by benlay(m): 12:53pm On Jul 06, 2009
The chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Maurice Iwu, opened up on the ills of the electoral process in Nigeria and excessive use of money by politicians, declaring that he and the staff of the commission were offered bribes during elections, especially during the recently concluded Ekiti State governorship rerun.

However, Professor Iwu, who was speaking at a recent dialogue session in Enugu, Enugu State, where civil servants, under the auspices of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), fully engaged and questioned him on his handling of elections in the country, added that the bribes were rejected.

Describing such offers as foolish, the INEC chairman, said he opened up on the critical issues affecting the electoral process in the country, because he was in his constituency.

“I am talking to you this way, because this is my constituency,” Iwu told the large gathering of Nigerian workers, who were participating in their 9th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference at the Universal Hotel, Enugu.

He likened such offers to a military coup d’état, saying that, if a military man was consulted to participate in a coup and he refused, he would become a dead person and if he agreed, the end result could also be death.

As a primary solution to this problem, he said the massive and excessive use of money in the polity should be addressed with a view to curbing it, as the nation tried to reform its electoral laws. He warned it was very crucial that the commission must be fully involved in the reform process.

Professor Iwu, who also spoke on the Ekiti governorship rerun said: “We were being taunted by one foolish offer or the other. And, as they said, the biggest thing that happens in this country is that, if this kind of offer is made to you, it is like being part of a military coup. If you say no, you are dead; [If] you participate, you may die, but in this particular case, people will come to you and you tell them politely, no.

“I was not being arrogant. I have lived with smaller salary in my life. I lived when we were not paid and , at my level, when I have my grandchildren (they are still alive and I can see them), I don’t have reason to build any other house. I have three houses, which I can boldly say, because I earned the money.

“So, what do I need another house for? What do I need your money for that will make me not to be able to accept a very important duty that my country, out of 140 million people, had asked me to do? And if you explain this to the person quietly, his conclusion is that, since you don’t take money from him, you must have taken from his opponents. And from that moment, they will harass you and harass you.

“So, the issue of excessive use of money in Nigerian politics is very important. We should be able to address it. Massive and excessive use of money has to be stopped. We should be able to have a situation where you know that certain things are beyond their money, that there are certain things they cannot buy, that there are certain people they cannot buy.”

He stated that their only yardstick at INEC was that “if I am morally convinced that the consent of the people, the will of the Nigerian people, had been determined, whether the man who lost is happy or not is immaterial. The important thing is that we are able to determine the will of Nigerian people.”

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Any Difference Between CV And Resume? by benlay(m): 12:48am On Jun 21, 2009
u guys should relax and read this Curriculum vitae is Latin meaning "course of life" and résumé is French meaning "summary". In the business world, the word résumé, also spelled resumé and resume, is used in the United States and in English Canada. Curriculum vitae and "CV" are used in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and New Zealand in all contexts, with résumé having very little currency.
In many contexts, a résumé is short (usually one page), and therefore contains only experience directly relevant to a particular position.
u won't hear Resume in Europe anyway and u won't hear CV in the US. PERIOD!!!!!

most of the local coaches do not tell much to the players, they would say u are Mikel now, u know what to do with the ball. we don't have much input from the technical crew most times when we play u know what i mean.
I still don't think we need Mikel in the national team, if anyone reading me is a Chelsea fan pls keep it to yourself, he's not committed for a long time and it's time to drop him and put players that are more committed, he was piling pressure to the defence, it was pathetic Nigeria passed the ball from the forward line to the defence, lol not that we were leading but did not know what to do with the ball  smiley

Politics / Re: Does Yar'adua Know What He's Doing? by benlay(m): 4:41pm On Jun 06, 2009
The on going cry by the leaders in the opposition parties against the purported “northern agenda” of President Umaru Yar’Adua, which the government recently claimed as spurious, seems to have been confirmed by the latest appointment of Mr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, a northerner from Kano State, as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In essence, the management of Nigeria’s treasury has been finally zoned to the North, with the present cabinet also having a northerner from Kano State, Dr. Mansur Mukhtar, as the Minister of Finance; the Minister for National Planning, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman is also from Kano State and the Chief Economic Adviser, Alhaji Tanimu Yakubu coming from Yar’adua’s home state, Katsina.

Thus, considering the fact that the CBN governor, hails from Kano State, and the Ministers of Finance, Kano and National Planning, Kano, is like the president is working against the principle of the Federal Character, looking through Section 14(3) of the 1999 Constitution which affirms that the appointments from the same state and ethnic group in a particular federal agency or sector is outlawed.
Politics / Does Yar'adua Know What He's Doing? by benlay(m): 4:41pm On Jun 06, 2009
with the recent appointment of Mr Sanusi as the CBN governor, one wonders if Mr President knows what he's doing.
