![]() Nairalanders, what can we do about hose customs folk at their table who check your luggage just fore you check in at the airport. They always ask for bribes and are very open about it. this is even if you don't have anything in your cases that rouses their interest. Once upon a time, i would laugh and joke with them when solicited but nowadays it embarrassing and disgraceful as a seasoned traveler to and from Nigeria to have this experience all the time. There was even an occasion when i was asked for money right in front of a film crew who were at the airport on other business. I just had to admonish the lady who was telling me to discretely pass her some "egunje" so the transaction was not captured on film, what can we do about thieving and shameful idiots? 3 Likes |

Folks, the problem is that that we get to wrapped up in things we cannot even see. If its mystical, then they must be some truth to it. Just like Prof Peller, who was just an entertainer but folks thought he had special powers. No one has any power except that have are in possession of Uzi machine gun, Now that is what i call special power, ![]() ![]() |

I have use of a building in one of the villages in Ogun State ( 1 hour from Lagos) for a commercial venture. The initial idea was to set up a cybercafe to service the needs of the local student community but exploits of the yahoo boys put paid to that idea, The other idea was to have a small scale tablet/ pill making factory to manufacture NAFDAC approved drugs like paracetamol, antibiotics etc, Does anyone out there know of initial costs and what modalities i need to be aware of, such as machinery sources, raw material sources. Folks, we seem to be carried away by this idea that Hollywood actors are poor. poverty itself is relative. the stark reality is that none of these folks are destitute and i guess if they wanted to enlarge their respective largess they would turn to politics. My thinking is that they enjoy what they do and most are not in the game solely for the money. Like footballers, basketball players, i believe they acknowledge the fact that they are indeed making a confortable living out of a hobby, vocation and are quite thankfull for this. I have seen a number of these films and while people question the quality of production, the acting skills are quite good. a lot of them could easily fit in to hollywood if they have agents who are prepared to go the extra mile on their behalf. In hollywood, do u want to tell me that Arnold Schwarzenegger is an actor in the reals sense of the word? The Nigerian film industry, just like that in India (bollywood) has its place in world culture. The industry is istill in its infancy and is still paying its dues. Nollywood actors are fortunate enough to live lives beyond the dreams of the average Nigerian, and there are a lot of below average Nigerians who struggle every day for basic necessities in every day Nigeria. Good luck to all of them |

has to be 'Madam Dearest parts 1 & 2, Could not believe the standard of acting, that is, proper character acting, Brilliant film with some very good actors who had previously appeared in a lot of so so mediocre movies. I think this one was directed by Tade Ogundiran. |

Chase novels were the thing in the 70s, All the chicks in my hood in Palm Grove became my best Friends when word spread that i had a massive collection of chase novels, though i cannot remember buying any!, The books were one of things that kept us occupied in our teenage years (no 24/7 TV or cable or even video in those days, ) and unarguably helped some folks spoken English, I also used to read Nick Carter and Harold Robbins, As a i got older and looked deeper into that genre of chase novels i found out that he wrote exactly like Raymond Chandler, the chap who wrote the Maltese Falcon, Big Sleep etc, Yes, Chase novels were good, those were the days ![]() |

One of the problems we have in naija is that of organised religion. Historically, Organised religion has ulterior motives-slavery, colonization, expantionism, Our people, like all africans are a very spritual lot and we have been the fodder for the latter day 'prophets' for many years, Look at the countries we look up to -US, UK, Religion takes a distance place in the national psyche, People listen once gain to the lyrics of Fela's Shuffering & Shmiling |
