Foreign Affairs / Putin And Kim Jong-un Now Plans To Send Norths Koreans To Space by BLOODFISH(m): 7:09pm On Sep 15, 2023
Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un plan to send North Korean astronauts into space

Interestingly, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un have begun discussing the possibility of sending North Koreans into space. Dmitry Peskov, Putin's spokesman, revealed the exciting prospects during the talks at a Russian spaceport in the country's Far East.

"We talked about the fact that if the North Korean side wants, a North Korean cosmonaut can be trained and sent into space," Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying by TASS and RIA Novosti news agencies. Such a mission would mark a historic moment as it would be the first time a North Korean ventured into space.

Kim Jong Un's visit to Russia has special significance as President Putin wants to strengthen diplomatic relations with leaders marginalized by Western countries. The two leaders met at the Vostochny Cosmodrome, where the Kremlin released footage of their enthusiastic handshake upon Kim's arrival.

Foreign Affairs / Putin Sends Love As North Korea Celebrates 75th Anniversary by BLOODFISH(m): 9:01pm On Sep 09, 2023
In a message to congratulate Mr Kim on the 75th anniversary of North Korea's founding, Mr Putin said he was convinced the two countries would "continue to strengthen bilateral ties on all fronts".

He said this would help ensure "the security and stability on the Korean peninsula and northeast Asia".

On a momentous Friday in Pyongyang, North Korea celebrated its 75th anniversary with a military parade that attracted international attention. The event took place at Kim Il Sung Square, with the presence of uniformed paramilitary brigades, a Russian military delegation and delegates from Beijing.

Rumors of a possible meeting between Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin have emerged, hinting at discussions about the possibility of North Korea supporting Russia in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refused to comment on this issue.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent congratulations to Kim Jong-un on this historic occasion, emphasizing the long-term strength of bilateral relations. Putin expressed confidence that the two countries will continue to strengthen relations, thereby contributing to ensuring regional security and stability on the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia.

Business / Google @ 25 Years This Month: Google Aims At Being The Biggest AI Company by BLOODFISH(m): 4:08pm On Sep 03, 2023
Google turns 25 this month, and it finds itself in a tech landscape that has changed dramatically since it was founded in 1998. Back then, Google was just a search engine, but it has since diversified into pretty much every area of tech and dominates some of them to an extent which sometimes troubles anti-competition regulators.

One of the areas where Google is trying to maintain its lead is artificial intelligence (AI). However, there are some who say that Google has fallen behind in the AI race.

One reason for this is the success of ChatGPT, an AI chatbot created by OpenAI. ChatGPT has been dubbed the "Google killer" because of its ability to answer questions in a single response, rather than serving up pages of search results. Google's own rival chatbot, Bard, has not had the same impact.

Another reason for Google's perceived AI lag is the controversy surrounding Lamda, one of Google's original large language models (LLMs). An engineer who worked on Lamda became convinced that it was sentient, and he published pages of conversations which he claimed proved his point. Google has consistently denied that Lamda is sentient, and the engineer was fired.

Despite these setbacks, Google is not giving up on AI. At its IO developers conference in May, Google announced 25 new AI-driven products. The company also owns leading UK-based AI firm DeepMind, whose AI program AlphaFold has the potential to supercharge the discovery of new medications.

Whether Google can maintain its lead in the AI race remains to be seen. However, the company has a long history of innovation, and it is not one to be easily beaten.

Foreign Affairs / Ukraine Is Winning The War Against Russia In Southern Ukraine (photos) by BLOODFISH(m): 7:32pm On Sep 01, 2023
The US government said Ukrainian forces had made "significant progress" in their assault on fortified Russian positions in the south.

White House security spokesman John Kirby said those achievements were made in the past 72 hours south of Zaporizhzhia.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told CNN that Kiev forces are advancing but "it's a tough fight".

Russia claims to have captured strategic heights near the city of Kupyansk in northeastern Ukraine. However, none of these claims have been independently verified.

Kirby said Kiev itself has acknowledged that the push south - to cut off Russia's land corridor to Crimea - is going slower than expected. "They have achieved some success against Russia's second line of defense," he said.

Earlier this week, the Ukrainian army announced that it had captured the village of Robotyne, in the Zaporizhzhia region.

In the northeast, Russia has assembled forces to reclaim the territories liberated by Ukraine east of Kharkov.

To the south, Russia is said to have built an elaborate system of trenches and tunnels, protected by minefields, as well as artillery positions and concrete anti-tank barriers known as "dragon teeth." .

Kyiv launched the counterattack after acquiring more advanced weapons from the Western allies and preparing shock battalions. However, progress has been slow and Kiev continues to urge NATO countries to provide tanks, demining equipment and combat aircraft, including the US-made F-16 fighter jets.

On Thursday, Mr. Kuleba, Ukraine's Foreign Minister, expressed his displeasure with those who criticized the speed of Ukraine's counter-attack.

In his words, he said: "I recommend to all critics to shut up, go to Ukraine and try to free a square centimeter by yourself," he told a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Spain.
