National Daily learned that before he was extradited to Nigeria, Oguche has been in detention in Sudan since he was declared wanted by the Department of State Security which identified him as the mastermind of the Nyanya, Abuja bomb blast along with one Rufai Tsega who is still at large. Before his arrest and detention in Sudan by Interpol, the Department of State Security, had on May 11, 2014, announced a N25 million reward for any one who could give information that could lead to the arrest of Ogwuche and Tsiga. As SSS official described Ogwuche Ogwuche who was born in the United Kingdom as any army deserter who served in the Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Army at Child Avenue, Arakan Barracks, Lagos, between 2001 and 2006. Five suspects, including Ahmed Abubakar, 43, Mohammed Ishag 30, Yari Sandu, 28, Anas Isah 22 and Adamu Yusuf, a cleric, 43, have already been paraded for their alleged involvement in the bombing. During his preliminary interrogation recently, Ogwuche was said to have disclosed that he specialized in assuming any character he wishes to assume. “I can become anything in other to hide my true identity. That is part of our training. While in Sudan, I camouflaged as a student to evade the security. I was surprised that they got me at last. I received part of my training in Somalia because there are so many knowledgeable foreign and local terrorist agents there. It is the same in Sudan but the difference is that in Somalia, you have a lot of caves to hide from security agents. I use to go to Somalia in order to meet other terrorists there,” Ogwuche was quoted by a security source as having said. The unrepentant terror suspect also allegedly told his captors of how he usually sneaked into the country from his hide out overseas to unleash mayhem and escape without being captured. “We used to come in from Chad-Niger border and carry out our activities. But owing to security presence, we shifted to Cameroonian border in Mambisa. But the Army people will not allow us to rest. They killed a lot of our people there and we ran for our dear life,” said Ogwuche who talked about how he escaped from Nigeria after the Nyanya blast. “I had the arrangement ready, all the funds and logistics to enable me escape. Immediately after the blast, I was taken away from the apian way unknown to security operatives.” Earlier reports on the arrest of Ogwuche, indicated that the Sudanese authorities were reluctant to extradite him to Nigeria as a result of interference by a top Northern Emir among other interests. It was however, learned that it was in a bid to circumvent these 'interests' that the process of extradition of the suspect to the country was made top secret by security operatives until his arrival in the country yesterday afternoon. In line with the security ploy to keep Ogwuche's extradition secret, the Police headquarters had sent an SMS inviting newsmen to cover the unveiling of a “Special Counter Terrorism equipment” at the airport, only for Ogwuche to be introduced as the “equipment.” Commenting on Ogwuche's extradition earlier in the day, the Sudanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Tagelsir Mahgoub, who was apparently not aware that the suspect was already in the country, said: “All the papers (for his extradition) were signed by the two parties (Nigeria and Sudan). “What we are waiting for now is for the Nigerian government to send a delegation that will come to our embassy to get their visas because everything has been concluded. “And I must say that there should not be any delay, because it will delay the whole process.” Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, MD Abubakar, while commending the personnel of the Nigeria Police Interpol Unit for a job well done, noted that the successful repatriation of the terror fugitive to Nigeria shows that the global coalition against terrorism championed by Nigeria is beginning to yield the desired result. "Following the conclusion of tortuous legal and diplomatic processes between Nigeria and the Republic of Sudan, the co-mastermind of the Nyanya Motor Park bombing in which scores of citizens died and hundreds wounded, Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche was Tuesday, 15th July, 2014 extradited to the country from Sudan where he had taken refuge. Aminu Ogwuche who was handed over to the Interpol Unit of the Nigeria Police Force by the Sudanese Authorities was flown into the country in a special flight from Khartoum which touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. It would be recalled that the terror fugitive who had long since been arrested in Sudan following an international red notice issued for his arrest by the Nigeria National Bureau of Interpol had not been repatriated to the country before now due to some necessary processes involved in transferring suspects from one country to another. Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche is a British born terrorist and Nigerian army deserter associated with the Boko Haram terror group and suspected of being one of the organizers of bomb attacks in the Nigerian capital Abuja. Ogwuche is the son of a retired Nigerian Army colonel and an indigene of Orokam, Ogbadibo LGA, Benue State, Nigeria. According to the Department of State Security, Ogwuche served in the Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Army at Child Avenue, Arakan Barracks, Lagos, between 2001 and 2006 with service Number 95/104 and is reported to have deserted in 2006. Ogwuche is a student of Arabic Language at the International University of Africa, Sudan and studied for a degree in Business Science at the University of Glamorgan between 2007 and 2010 but failed to finish the course and was not awarded a degree. Ogwuche was first arrested in Nigeria in 2011 but released in 2012 Ogwuche was arrested by Interpol in Sudan on an international warrant in connection with the April 2014 Abuja bombing in the suburb of Nyanya, which killed 75 people on 14 April 2014 and the May 2014 Abuja bombing which killed 19 people on 1 May 2014. Ogwuche is also wanted in connection with the Chibok schoolgirl kidnapping. Ogwuche, served in the intelligence unit of the Nigerian Army between 2001 and 2006. The efforts by Nigeria's security agencies led by the Department of State Security Services (SSS) to apprehend those behind the April 14 bomb blast at a motor park in Nyanya, Abuja, paid off with the arrest of a co-mastermind of the dastardly act. “Rufai Abubakar Tsiga, a Boko Haram leader, is the mastermind of the bombing of April 14, 2014 at El-Rufai Motor Park, Abuja.Tsiga was actively aided by a co-mastermind, AminuSadiq Ogwuche”, Ogar said. Earlier, the service had paraded five suspects Ahmad Abubakar (aka Abu Ibrahim/Mai Turare), Mohammed Ishaq, Yau Saidu (aka Kotar Rama) AnasIsah and Adamu Yusuf they confessed to been privy to the plot to bomb Nyanya. Ogwuche, the son of a retired army colonel, Agene Ogwuche, was reportedly arrested through the help of the Military Attaché to the Nigerian High Commission in Sudan with the help of international security operatives, National Daily Newspaper learned. Nigerians are anxiously waiting for the urgent extradition of other suspected terror-fugitives. Most importantly, Nigerians want an end to this carnage. Source.www.nationaldailyng.com |
Nairaland / General / “I Enjoy Killing People” Says Ogwuche by Boyeseth(m): 8:51pm On Jul 21, 2014 |
— Stunning confession of captured Boko Haram Terrorist, Ogwuche Says I won't beg for forgiveness Preliminary interrogation of Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche Nyanya bomb blast suspect who was recently extradited from Sudan, has began with stunning observation at State Security Service (SSS) Headquarters in Abuja. Contrary to the expectation of interrogation officers that Ogwuche will become sober as a result of his ordeal and probably ask for forgiveness. He is allegedly defiant and vowing to continue with what he termed as spiritual revolution at the least opportunity. The suspected terrorist, who was wearing trousers and long sleeve with blue colour stripes, said in fluent English language that he has no regrets for his dastardly act in the April 14, 2014 bomb blast that killed over 70 people and injured about 120 others at Nyanya area of Abuja. “I don't deny that I am the executioner of the Nyanya bomb incident. I did it in order to draw government's attention to our demands. We want our detained colleagues released and compensation paid to those of our colleagues who were killed by the federal troops during operations. We want Islamic rule in the whole of northern Nigeria. Western education is a sin against Allah. It's time for dialogue between government and Boko Haram leaders for the way out of the deadlock,” he was quoted as saying. Ogwuche was immediately taken into custody from the special flight which touched down at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 3 pm on Tuesday July 15, 2014. The flight arrived from Khartoum, Sudan, to hand the returnee fugitive over to Nigeria Security Forces for interrogation. On hand to receive him at the Presidential wing of the airport were spokepersons of the police, ACP Frank Mba, Department of State Services, Marilyn Ogar, Major General Chris Olukolade of the Army and coordinator, National Information Centre, Mike Omeri. National Daily sources said Ogwuche had camouflaged as a student of Arabic language at the International University of Africa, Sudan, before eagle eyed security operatives uncovered and arrested him. He was extradited after nearly three months of intensed diplomatic and security engagement between the federal government and the Sudanese counterpart. National Daily learned that stringent efforts were being made to extradite other fugitive suspected terrorists from Sudan and other African countries. “This is a great break through for the security forces especially the International Police (Interpol). The department of state services in Nigeria collaborated with the Nigerian police to achieve this feat. They got the Interpol to be involved in the intelligence and strategic planning which resulted in the arrest of Aminu Ogwuche. So, Ogwuche is right now with the State Security Services who are closely working with the police,” said an informed security source, adding: “His preliminary interrogation has began. We know it is the duty of the police to prosecute but we are talking about national security here. So far, Ogwuche is facing preliminary interrogation by a team comprised of SSS officials and the police. I can tell you that he was first detained at Abuja Interpol office before he was moved to an undisclosed DSS detention centre in Abuja. He is expected to be handed over to the Police for prosecution. “The government must do something now or the bombing will continue. There is no regretting anything because we are fighting a just cause to liberate our people from western education and religion,” the light complexioned and gaunt looking suspected terrorist said. Ogwuche vowed not to forgive the federal government for waging war against Islamic fundamentalistsin the country saying that Boko Haram highest echelon is prepared to contain government determined onslaught against terrorists. “Federal government has been trying without success to wipe out Boko Haram. They killed our leader, Muhammed Yusuf and hundreds of others yet we still exist. We are a force to be recognized. You ignore us at your own peril. We are particularly pained by the killing of hundreds of our members across the forest in northern part of the country. Although we equally killed federal troops, we will never forgive the federal government for the incessant killings. We are well armed to fight back and we will never surrender. Boko Haram is well funded and highly equipped organization with capacity to take over the whole country if it so desires,” Ogwuche ranted. The Nyanya bomb blast mastermind boasted that he is still lusting to shed more blood of those he described as “infidels.” “If I am left alone, I will still kill those infidels who have refused to repent of their sins against Allah. This is my mission on earth. My mission is to wipe out infidels from the face of the earth. You call me bomb detonator, and I love that. I am ready to kill again. In fact, I enjoy killing people who are unbelievers; those deceived by western education and disobedient to Allah and his holy Koran. I don't care what will happen to me now because if I die, I shall go to heaven for doing god's work. I won't beg anybody for forgiveness but I can assure you that my so called trial will not be an easy exercise. If I like, I plead not guilty in court to make things difficult for the federal government but inside my mind, I know I did the damn thing. It is my word against federal government evidence. I know a little bit about the intricacies of the law through the study of several law books. Nobody can push me around because I am not a fool,” said Ogwuche who was born in the United Kingdom. The captured fugitive terrorist who regaled his interrogators with gory tale of his exploits in the world of violence said he and hundreds of Boko Haram members were trained in Somalia and Pakistan in the science of terrorism. “I don't deny that we have links with foreign terrorist groups. We have many friends as well as may enemies. It doesn't matter if I am killed others will continue the struggle. There are millions of Boko Haram members in Nigeria and overseas. Was our great leader Mohammed Yusuf not killed, did his death lead to the end of the Boko Haram? We are determined to start a big jihad across the nation, first, wait and see. Our is something like spiritual revolution. When they arrested Kabiru Sokoto, they celebrated as if Boko Haram is all about Kabiru Sokoto. That is how they celebrated the death of Yusuf Mohammed. They will keep celebrating individuals while million agents of Boko Haram operate,” Ogwuche said. Source.www.nationaldailyng.com |

Open Letter To VC Of NOUN: Students Decry Hike In School Fees Dear Sir: We would like to begin by quoting an old African proverb which says: 'when rainfall is accompanied by thunder, the ground does not only get wet, devastating traces are left behind that could affect generations yet unborn.' Sir, you are an African son and it is not conventionally acceptable to explain such sayings to anyone with African roots. An African child is no stranger to the meanings conveyed by the crowing cock in the early hours of the morning, remember? Sir, at the time of enrolling into the National Open University of Nigeria, we were imbued with hopes of attaining greatness and the ecstatic feeling of actualizing our aspirations was buzzing inside of us with unusual enthusiasm. Things have indeed changed! Today, that feeling has turned awry as life at the university is proving to be more and more unfriendly, like the infamous relationship between human skin and thorns. We are yet to recover from the brutal shock that hit us in the wake of the university's ill-informed decision to hike our fees without any compunction. This decision is not only callous; it is also a testimony to the fact that the university prioritizes financial gains to academic excellence. And this, quite obviously, leaves the future of the university and its students in a very precarious state. At a time when the university is still embroiled in a big struggle to meet the pressing needs of its students, one would have thought that developing infrastructure for a sound learning environment is the university's major goal. But the latest move by the university has proven that such plans are out of thought. So, Sir, rather than resorting to fee hiking, we are of the opinion that tackling those shortcomings that are besetting the institution would have been more productive. Below, we present a few of such problems that the university has consciously ignored: 1. For the past four years or thereabouts, the university has failed to provide facilitators/tutors for students. This unfortunate situation has led the hapless students to pull their resources together in order to hire lecturers from other universities. And so it goes without saying that students spend huge amount of money every semester in solving a crucial need that the university should have been responsible for. Sir, we should like to know, was this how you studied? 2. The university has ensured that payment for course materials be compulsory for all students, and the cost of each material is between N2, 000 and N2, 500, depending on the credit units of the course. The mathematical outcome of this would reveal that a student running ten courses, for instance, coughs out an outrageous N20, 000 to N25, 000 per semester for course materials alone! But this is not where our outcry lies. Why is it that students do not get these course materials after payment? Why is it that the university advises students to get these materials 'elsewhere' after payment to the university must have been made? Why is it that the university does not refund our money since it is unable to provide the course materials for which it gets paid every semester? On this, it is imperative to carry out some calculation in order to illustrate how much a student running ten courses would pay per semester under the new fee structure: Course registration: N21, 500 (this is only a conservative estimate as this depends on the credit units) Examination registration: N10, 000 Compulsory fee: N23, 000 (previously N15, 500) As demonstrated above, this would amount to: N54,500 for a single semester! And let it be known that the above calculation does not include the additional amount of money students spend in downloading and binding course materials that the university deprives us after payment, nor does it include the exorbitant amount that we spend in hiring tutors every semester. If we were to include these to the above calculation, there would be no word in the dictionary to adequately describe the institutionalized injustice that students suffer at the National Open University of Nigeria. Sir, please be kind enough to tell us the total amount of fees you paid per session during your days as an undergraduate. This unjustifiable situation has left us with one disturbing question: 'is the National Open University of Nigeria still a Federal institution?' 3. There is the big question about the future of Law undergraduates which the university has not been able to resolve. The Council of Legal Education has on several occasions stated in plain language that our Law graduates are ineligible for admission into the nation's Law School, yet the university has done absolutely nothing about this and it keeps on admitting more students into the Faculty of Law. Our honest question is: should this resistance into Law School be sustained, will the university refund every kobo it has received from all Law students and also pay some compensation for their wasted time? Or is this an indication that the university is ignorant of the importance of attending Law School? 4. In early 2013, the university imposed the sum of N6, 500 on all students which was automatically deducted from our portals. The sum, which was tagged 'JAMB regularization fee', was aimed at mobilizing NOUN graduates for the one year compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme. But we have been reliably informed that NOUN graduates are ineligible to participate in this programme. Why is the university silent on this? Will the N6, 500 be refunded now that the purpose for which it was paid could not be achieved? 5. Since inception, the university imposes an e-library and e-learning fees on students every semester, yet we are never granted access to the e-library nor do we receive any online lecture(s). What then is the rationale for this payment, Sir? And as if that is not enough, are you aware that your recently introduced i-learn is not accessible as you make it seem? 6. Sir, how about the questionable grading system and the consistent 'missing of results'? And why is it that we are requested to cough out certain amount of money before our CGPA or semester results are revealed to us? We have reliably gathered that it is for this reason that the university has insisted that our results and CGPA should not be made available in our portals. How can you possibly defend this when our cumulative results and CGPA are never revealed? We should like to know, Sir, in your undergraduate days, did you also part with some money in order to see your result(s) and CGPA? We have only touched few of the problems facing our institution, and so we are inclined to believe that the authorities of the university should concern themselves in bringing a permanent solution to these problems rather than hiking fees, for we have learnt from our great farming parents that the biggest tragedy of any farmer is to ignore planting his yam seedlings and still hope to experience a great harvest during the New Yam Festival. Isn't this a curious thing to do, dear Sir? So, Sir, as students of the National Open University of Nigeria, through this open letter, we wish to publicly declare that we vehemently decry the recent hike in our fees and we exhort you and other decision-makers of the university to reverse to the previous fee structure. We thank you for your attention. Nairaland / General / Incredible Truth About The Penis by Boyeseth(m): 3:02pm On Dec 08, 2013 |
DEALEH Sat 07 Dec 2013 Even though a penis is controlled by the nervous system, it also has a mind of its own. Erections can occur at random due to some impulses firing from the brain during sleep and that is why most mornings, men experience 'morning glows'. The penis is turgid without a prior s*xual arousal trigger. In fact, the penis does not need the mans brain before it climaxes. It is basically the function of the penis than the brain of the man. Orgasm actually starts with the spine; the signal to ejaculate is the result of muscle contractions in the spinal cord and pelvis, not the brain. But amazingly, simple things like having a rough day at work can lead to a man not gaining an erection for a week... On average, adult penis typically measures between four and six inches when flaccid and six to nine inches when erect. So typically, most joysticks are created equal in almost all men. Human penis still weighs and looks bigger than that of other animals. Many men worry so much about the look of their penis but the truth of the matter is curves are common in penis. The vast majority of joysticks lean ever so slightly to the left or right when erect (you are probably just too distracted to notice). However, some bend so dramatically (or curve up or down) that having s*x is almost impossible. This is known as Peyronies Disease and it happens when the penis doesnt expand evenly during a hard- on. The structure of the penis does not help men to finish slowly; rather they are programmed to finish quickly. So wives, dont take it personal. One of the purposes of intercourse for men is pleasure, then procreation. In fact, 85 per cent of men think of pleasure first before procreation while having s*x. Penile rupture is very real; it tends to happen mostly during vigorous s*x and also overly enthusiastic solo action like masturbation. Most men who have experienced this unthinkable breakage always report hearing a cracking noise, followed by excruciating pain. It is always advisable to get treatment on time because an untreated fracture can lead to permanent erectile dysfunction (ED). Penis size, thickness and shape are not genetic. joysticks are actually formed in uterus when the male hormones are in active service. joysticks have a seam as all men have a line going down their penis and over their testicles. Its more a seam on the underside of the penis. It forms when the foetus is in the uterus. In women, the seam becomes the inner lips of the vagina. In men, the seam encloses the urethra along the length of the penis. joysticks contrast in colour to other body parts; joysticks are generally darker in colour than the bodies they hang from. Why? Its part of the s*xual maturation process. Every penis experiences a degree of shrinkage on a daily basis, especially when it is very cold. In other words, cold weather and cold water are a penis mortal enemies. A typical testicles need to be warm to effectively make sperm and testosterone. So when you stay too long in a chilly air- condition room on a daily basis, try to take a ten minutes walk in a warm environment away from the cold. But there is no correlation between penis size and shoe size, hand size or wallet size. And the worst exercise for the penis is masturbation. Masturbation is not healthy at all. Smoking isnt just bad for your lungs; it is also bad for the penis. Its no secret that smoking clogs the arteries, including those that fill the penis with blood, especially at the initial stage of ejaculation. This means the joysticks of smokers may have a harder time rising to its full potential at the occasion of s*xual activities. Also, men will go limp if they drink too much. Men really do get blue-balls, technically called prostatic congestion which is caused by trapped blood in the testicles. It has been discovered that a lukewarm shower or aspirin will also do the trick. With a vasectomy, a man can still be a father because some sperm cell can still hang around, ready, willing and able to cause a woman to be pregnant two weeks post operation. So, its important to use some kind of protection until your family doctor says the coast is clear. Please note that if an erection comes on and refuses to go away, this is not a miracle, but a medical emergency. This means that the blood flow that causes an erection doesnt eventually leave the penis. Serious complications can result, like blood clots and some major damage. Questions and Answers: Should I or should I not? Seven months ago, my wife of 11 years suddenly left my home unannounced with my seven-year-old last child. I was so worried I had to report the case to the police who after series of searching, eventually discovered that she actually moved to the house of one of my church members, a wealthy business tycoon. This became a court case and when she was asked why she left without traces, she said it was on the basis that I do not satisfy her s*xually. Now, she is begging to come back. Should I take her back? Her insatiable s*xual craving has been a big issue since the inception of our marriage. I cant satisfy her even if I over try. - Peter Ajukochi This is a case of libidinal mismatch leading to unfaithfulness, I think you both can still sit and talk things over. There are quite a lot of things to do together when couples s*x drive do not match. Amazingly, every human being has untapped s*xual potential in us. If she has been complaining from the outset of your union, what have you done to rectify the situation? Bear it in mind that your low desire affects your wife immensely; so you must stretch yourself to take time to enhance your libido. This will bond the two of you together the more and grant you some discoveries about your own s*xuality. Take quality time to discover your wifes s*xual peculiarities. It is very wrong and unethical for your wife to abandon her matrimonial home in search of a momentary pleasure. But I would also plead for your forgiveness. Since she has discovered her mistakes, I am sure she will make it up to you. Please take her back and in future, dont ignore her complaints. Why should I be careful about semen analysis? I have done quite a number of semen analyses, yet I cant make my wife get pregnant. Why should I be careful about semen analysis or continue to carry out the same test? - Matins Matins Are you sure you are carrying out the necessary test? Frankly speaking, semen analysis is not a measure of fertility; rather, it is a measure of sperm production and sperm delivery. So, a single semen analysis really does not mean everything is normal or abnormal. It just means theres normal production, normal delivery of sperm. Most men, when there are concerns about fertility, will be told to get a semen analysis. It is a good thing but it is important that if a man has concerns over fertility, he has at least two and probably three separate semen analyses, each one after three days of abstinence, each about six to eight weeks apart. And then, and only then, can you say you have successfully completed the test. Is it advisable to send a spy after my partner? If a husband or wife notices some suspicious moves, activities and behaviour in the life of his or her partner especially s*xual life, Is it advisable for the suspecting partner to send spies to get adequate information before taking necessary action, If no, why? - Simian Jubilee I do not think it is a wise idea. One thing is certain, there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed over a period of time. And from observation, when you are not too sure of something, it is either you patiently wait for a proper timing or you wisely confront your spouse. And if he or she denies the confrontation, you can just keep your calm. Things will definitely reveal themselves sooner than you think. But if you start sending spies here and there, searching for information, digging up stories, you may end up destroying the very thing you want to protect. Where mistrust, doubt, and suspicion reign, every air that blows is a potential danger bomb. Can erectile dysfunction prevent pregnancy? Apparently yes but this depends greatly on the degree and level of the erectile dysfunction challenge. If it is a chronic erectile dysfunction, it has 75-83 per cent of preventing pregnancy, especially when the erection is not hard enough for effective ejaculation or when the man ejaculates just at the tip of the vagina. If it is an acute erectile dysfunction [ a sudden event of either premature ejaculation or quick ejaculation], there may be a likelihood of the man being able to impregnate his wife when the man is treated on time. Nairaland / General / President Jonathan To Meet ASUU On Monday, November 4 by Boyeseth(m): 8:22pm On Oct 31, 2013 |
President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, November 4, meet with the leadership of ASUU at the Presidential Villa. This was part of the resolutions of the meeting between the ASUU leadership, Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education on Tuesday as was first reported by this medium. An official of the Vice President's office who pleaded anonymity told Scan News that all hands are now on deck to ensure that the universities resume next week. The official stated that the Vice President and the Supervising Minister of Education have made head-way in resolving the strike, but the final involvement of the President is to show ASUU that there is the commitment of the Federal Government at the highest level. It was learnt that the President has been fully briefed on steps taken by Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Supervising Minister of Education to get to this point. It was learnt that the President will at next Monday's meeting present to the ASUU leadership the administration's last concession for them to call off the prolonged strike. A source at the Presidential Villa noted that if ASUU fails to call off, the Federal Government will then resort to plan B, which will be to compulsorily open the universities, using the instrumentality of the governing councils and the school managements. Already, most of the governing councils of the universities have started meeting to work out modalities for the compulsory re-opening of the universities should ASUU fail to honour the personal request of President Jonathan. Scan News gathered that the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike and the Vice Chancellors of Public Universities also discussed the re-opening of the schools last Monday. Most of the Vice Chancellors suggested the compulsory re-opening of the schools, should the last ditch efforts fail. It was gathered that security report available to the Presidency may have necessitated this line of action to salvage the universities system from the direction it is facing at present. Politics / Women Who Are More Powerful Than Jonathan by Boyeseth(m): 4:03pm On Oct 27, 2013 |
Since inception, President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has been accused of impunity, usually caused by decisions and actions of the President, including those of his ministers and close associates. Most of the glaring cases of abuse of power including reckless spending of taxpayers’ money have been carried out by the women in Jonathan’s cabinet. These women have proven to be more powerful than the number one citizen of Nigeria because despite public outcries that greet some of their decisions, they go scot-free. Those who fall in this seemingly untouchable category are the First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan; the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke; the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Ms. Arunma Oteh; and the Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah. These powerful women have some things in common. They are all from the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones. Four of them had their higher education in the United States and two of them are daughters of traditional rulers. Needless to say they occupy some of the most strategic and ‘lucrative’ positions in the Federal Government. PATIENCE JONATHAN In Nigeria’s history, Patience Jonathan is believed to be the most powerful First Lady in terms of the amount of influence she has over her husband and his cabinet. Mrs. Jonathan first gave a glimpse into the enormous power she wields in 2011 when she traversed the country, campaigning for her husband in a way that irked many Nigerians. Several calls by individuals and groups to the President to restrain his wife yielded no result. Also, in June this year, in apparent violation of the electoral act, Mrs. Jonathan reportedly started campaigning for her husband ahead of the 2015 elections. Another show of impunity by the President’s wife is the way she cripples any town or city she visits with her long motorcade, including bulletproof limousines and scores of armed policemen. She grounded Lagos in 2012 when she visited to say “thank you” to some women groups for their support in electing her husband. Despite the protest by several Nigerians, who felt that their right to move freely in their country was violated by the movement of an unelected individual, the President’s wife was never cautioned, at least not publicly. Instead, the Presidency rose to her defence, giving her the liberty to do more in other cities. Her visits and grounding of traffic in Port Harcourt and Warri were also greeted with wide condemnations. To show how powerful she is, Mrs. Jonathan publicly admitted making attempts to dictate to the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, a move that largely precipitated the ongoing political crisis in the state. In Aso Rock, where she resides with her husband, the fear of Mrs. Jonathan is the beginning of wisdom as she leaves no one in doubt that she is in charge. There is always a retinue of favour seekers waiting to see her daily. Mrs. Jonathan, a native of Bayelsa State, was born in Port Harcourt on October 25, 1957 and holds National Certificate of Education in Mathematics and Biology from the Rivers State College of Arts and Science, and a Bachelor of Education degree in biology and psychology from the University of Port Harcourt. NGOZI OKONJO-IWEALA Right from when the negotiation to bring her from the World Bank started, it was obvious that Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was bound to wield so much power in Jonathan’s government. With her position as the coordinating minister for the economy (a new position created for her) and Finance Minister, Okonjo-Iweala, who is currently 83rd on Forbes’ global list of powerful women, calls the shots as far as Nigeria’s economy is concerned. While doing that, she has called the bluff of many including state governors and the National Assembly without any consequence. The state governors, who have complained about the shabby way the minister treat them, have called for her removal while the Academic Staff Union of Universities has called her a ‘dictator.’ But no matter the protest, Okonjo-Iweala remains a darling of the President. The sacking of Mr. Shuaib Yushau as the Head, Media and Information Unit of the National Emergency Management Agency, after he wrote what was considered a critical article against Okonjo-Iweala, further showed that the minister was not to be messed with. The article entitled ‘Still on Okonjo-Iweala over Controversial Appointments’, published on March 6, called on the minister “to ensure that appointments into important positions should be done in credible and transparent manner that can withstand public scrutiny.” Similarly, Mr. Lawrence Ani, was reportedly suspended indefinitely from his job as Saturday Editor of Thisday Newspaper for publishing a story that cited data that indicated a drop in Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product under Okonjo-Iweala’s watch. In 2011, against the opinion of the majority of Nigerians, Okonjo-Iweala and the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, insisted on the removal of fuel subsidy, and literally ordered it on the outset of 2012, resulting in the Occupy Nigeria protest. Okonjo-Iweala, who also served as finance minister and foreign minister under President Olusegun Obansanjo and as a Managing Director at the World Bank, was born on June 13, 1954 to Professor Chukuka Okonjo, who is the Obi (traditional ruler) of Ogwashi-Uku. She graduated from Harvard University in 1977, and earned her Ph.D. in regional economic development from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1981. She is married to Ikemba Iweala from Abia State. DIEZANI ALISON-MADUEKE Virtually all sections of the Nigerian society have called for the resignation of the Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, all to no avail. Most of those who sought her removal had cited several allegations of corrupt practices under her watch as reasons for their demand. After the revelation of massive fraud in the fuel subsidy administration to the tune of N1.7trn, many had thought that heads would roll, including that of Alison-Madueke, who supervised the rot. Some heads did roll, but not that of the queen of the Nigeria oil and gas industry. Till date, the Presidency has not queried or probed Diezani over allegations against her and the indictment of departments under her by several panels, including those headed by Nuhu Ribadu, Farouk Lawan, and Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede as well as the Nigerian Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative. Diezani has also not explained to Nigeria, whom she was appointed to serve, what role she played in the massive corruption that led to the loss of huge amounts of public fund. Apart from the demands for the Alison-Madueke’s resignation and prosecution by civil society groups, who led the Occupy Nigeria protest, the House of Representatives also demanded her removal as minister. Despite this, the President did not suspend her, and gave no explanation for that. This shows how powerful she is. Alison-Madueke is the first woman to hold the position of Minister of Petroleum Resources in Nigeria, and in October 2010 she became the first woman to head a country’s delegation at the annual OPEC conference. She was also the first female Minister of Transportation, and the first woman to be appointed to the board of Shell Petroleum Development Company Nigeria. Alison-Madueke was born on December 6, 1960 in Port Harcourt. She graduated from Howard University in 1992, with a Bachelor’s degree in architecture and returned to Nigeria to join Shell Petroleum Development Corporation. About 10 years later, she earned an MBA from Cambridge University and was appointed as the first female executive director of Shell Nigeria. In 1999, she got married to Admiral Alison Madueke (retd), one-time Chief of Naval Staff who was at different times military governor of Imo and Anambra states. STELLA ODUAH Not many are aware of the tremendous power of the Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah, in Jonathan’s government. For her role in Jonathan’s 2011 campaign, she was reportedly rewarded with a ministerial appointment to the aviation ministry, even though she had no prior training in the field of aviation. Many believe that the President feels indebted to her for her role as the Director of Finance and Administration of the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign Organisation and in the establishment of Neighbour-to-Neighbour outfit, which reportedly spent billions of naira on adverts and media propaganda in favour of Jonathan, especially while the Occupy Nigeria protest lasted. Considering this relationship with Jonathan, it should not be a surprise that Oduah’s response to critics after the Dana and Associated Airlines crashes reeked of arrogance. The latest revelation that she forced the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to buy her bulletproof vehicles has again elicited calls for her removal and prosecution but considering the way the President has treated public outcries against these powerful women, Oduah is likely to remain minister till the end of Jonathan’s administration. Princess Stella Oduah was born on January 5, 1962 to Igwe D.O. Oduah of Akili-Ozizor in Anambra State on January 5, 1962. She got her Bachelor’s degree in accounting and MBA from American universities. Oduah joined the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in 1983 and in 1992, she established a petroleum products marketing company, Sea Petroleum & Gas Company Limited. She was married to the former Minister for Works, Chris Ogiemwonyi. ARUNMA OTEH Through her battles, the Director-General of the Securities Exchange Commission, Ms. Arunma Oteh, has sufficiently earned the name ‘Iron lady’ even beyond her official sphere of influence. When she clashed with the House of Representatives Committee on the Capital Market, it was the chairman of the committee, Mr. Herman Hembe, that got hurt. The committee had accused Oteh of fraud and misappropriation of funds. She fired back, accusing Hembe of demanding bribe from SEC. The SEC board suspended Oteh in order to investigate the findings of the lawmakers, who probed the capital market and indicted her. She immediately petitioned the President and Okonjo-Iweala. After two months, the President returned Oteh to her position, following the auditor’s report that said her offence amounted only to ‘administrative lapses.’ The directors and staff of the commission, who had protested Oteh’s alleged high-handedness, were advised to calm down and obey their boss. On the other hand, Hembe was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and also stepped down as chairman of the committee. The crisis led to an intense battle between President Jonathan and the House of Representatives. The House demanded the sacking of Oteh but Jonathan refused. The passage of the 2013 budget was delayed because of the fight. Eventually, the lawmakers insisted on zero budget for SEC to force the President’s hand, but he did not budge. Calls for her removal by civil society groups also fell on deaf ears. Oteh, who is an indigene of Abia State, is also a British citizen. She graduated with first-class degree in computer sciences from the University of Nigeria in Nsukka and earned her MBA from Harvard Business School. Punchng.com

So complicated, So confusing, So hard to please. If you try to pls them, you are cheap. If you love them, you're a Love Peddler.or too emotional. If you don't, you're playing hard to get. . If you give them attention, you're bugging them, if you don't you're with other men. If you demand for attention you're a nagging woman, if you don't you're not understandable. If you dress sexy, you're attracting other men. If you don't , you're awkward&local. If you cook&wash their clothes, you're desperate. If you don't, you're not a wife material. If you are beautiful, you can't stay with one man. If you're ugly, you're not up to standard. If you're independent, you're chasing men away. If you're dependent, you're a liability. . If you're pregnant, you want to trap them. If you're not pregnant, you're not a woman or might have damaged your womb. If you ask men for money you're too demanding... So, What do men really want? |
Politics / Jonathan Has Assaulted The Sensibilities Of Muslims By Visiting Jerusalem-gumi by Boyeseth(m): 2:58pm On Oct 27, 2013 |
Respected Kaduna based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has said that President Jonathan's pilgrimage to Israel has assaulted the sensibilities of Muslims and in his opinion shows that President Jonathan is not a good Christian. Read his views below JONATHAN IN ISRAEL I am not a keen political commentator probably because my brain also filters information through the prism of religion, but I definitely now believe that Mr. Jonathan is neither a politician nor does he mean well for other Nigerians. His ‘tourism’ to Israel is a big political blunder, I said tourism because its never in the annals of true Christianity to partake pilgrimage as it’s a cardinal tenets of Islam to go on such pilgrimage to three most Ancient mosques in the World. In a hadith narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim from Abu Huraira, the prophet – peace be upon him was quoted as saying: “No religious journey is allowed except to three mosques”. They are the Makkah mosque, the Medina mosque and the Jerusalem mosque. Nigeria along with many other African and world countries has sided with the plight of the Palestinians that were forced out of their homeland, killed and scattered. There are still Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and all over the world. They are prevented from entering their mother land just because it was confiscated by the Western powers with Israel used as a ‘front’. It’s a share case of colonization with expulsion of the rightful occupants. For this reason no Nigerian president in the past, Muslim or Christian has visited Israel in order not to honor such injustice. Today Nigeria riddled with insurmountable political, economic and social problems, our least priority is a state visit to a controversial state where human suffering is the norm of the day. What do we stand to gain from Israel? For one, the Jews -I am saying this without any prejudice- are traditionally known to be misers while we African are seldom not beggars. Charity is not in there lexicon. Jesus – alaihis Salam- has condemned them in the most explicable terms no other human has done. ‘Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?’M't:23:33 . In the Quran, Jews were also cursed with misery and lowliness; they can only parasite on other nations to survive and on Allah’s mercy on occasions. Allah said: “ Shame is pitched over them (Like a tent) wherever they are found, except when under a covenant (of protection) from Allah and from men; they draw on themselves wrath from Allah, and pitched over them is (the tent of) destitution. This because they rejected the Signs of Allah, and slew the prophets in defiance of right; this because they rebelled and transgressed beyond bounds”. Q3/112 Notherless the Quran in fairness said “Not all of them are alike: Of the People of the Book are a portion that stand (For the right): They rehearse the Signs of Allah all night long, and they prostrate themselves in adoration. “ Q3/113. What concern us now, is that Jonathan has succumbed to the pressure to support the Jews at the detriment of the oppressed Palestinians and the teaming millions of Nigerians living under the most appalling conditions, our children out of schools, and the ostentatious life style of his ministers, cronies and oil thieves. If Jonathan wants religious peace in Nigeria, his visit to a religiously controversial state is a mistake. The message is that he is insensitive to Muslim’s sensibility. There is share recklessness in such an adventure. Truly Islam has enjoined Muslims to interact, mutually benefit with the Jews in business and marriage. Muslims are allowed to eat their food, therefore it should be understood that the Muslim’s apathy towards them is because of Zionism and the plight of their fellow Muslims. The Jewish experience is Spain under the Muslim rule is well documented. They prefer Muslim’s treatment to the Christians. Even in recent history what the German Nazi did to the Jews cannot be effaced. My advice to Israel is that they should not interfere with Nigerian problems, treat Mr. Jonathan as a simple tourist. As I also beseech them to facilitate Muslims going on pilgrimage to Jerusalem as instructed by the prophet of Mercy. May Allah protect us from all evil! Amin NaijaPundit 1 Like |
Nairaland / General / The Summary Of The Total Demand S Of ASUU by Boyeseth(m): 2:51pm On Oct 27, 2013 |
Maxwell Adeyemi Adeleye Wrote: The summary of the total demands of ASUU goes as thus: Post graduate supervision allowances; Teaching practice and industrial allowances; honorarium for external moderation of undergraduate and postgraduate examination system, postgraduate study grants; external assessment of readers or professors, Call duty and clinical duty and hazard allowance and excess workload allowance. Other demands include “non salary condition of service, which includes clinical loan, car refurbishing, housing loan, research leave, sabbatical leave, sick leave, maternity leave, injury pension, provision of office accommodation and facilities, Pension of university academic staff and compulsory retirement age, National Health Insurance Scheme, transfer of landed property, execution of the contract/ projects that the N1.5trn in which the varsities NEEDs intervention fund being demanded for from FG by ASUU is done by ASUU holdings, patronage of university services, funds from alumni associations, private sector contributions, cost saving measures, duty free importation of education materials by universities and setting up research development units by companies operating in Nigeria, and finally, the popular one which my people threw to the general public to gain sympathy, N1.5trn within five years for infrastructure development. My questions are, if today, FG concur to increase the already released N40billion for the payment of the above allowances to something like N60billion and the strike is suspended, can states such as Ekiti, Kwara, Zamfara, Ebonyi with their meagre allocations, afford to pay all these allowances to the lecturers in theirs universities? Can Governor Kayode Fayemi afford to pay 20% of these allowances to lecturers in EKSU? Can Govenor Elechi afford to pay 20% of these allowances to Lecturers in EBSU? ...Another round of strike looming in states-owned Universities! No wonder the Nigerian Governors'Forum has not issued any reasonable statement in relation to the ongoing strike! God Bless Nigeria! Happy sunday Nigerians!!! |

Religion / What The Holy Bible Says About Drinking Alcohol by Boyeseth(m): 5:15pm On Sep 30, 2013 |
Here’s an interesting piece I found on a popular forum.. Read and tell me if you support the what the writer portrayed ! What The Bible Says About Drinking Alcohol With Jesus himself consuming wine, you would think the Bible supports consuming alcohol. But, the truth could be otherwise, drinking could well be a sin. One look at the happenings of the New Testament is sure to make you shout with joy. Assuming that, if Jesus himself shared wine with his disciples, then drinking and consuming alcohol cannot be a sin. While wine and other drinks are mentioned in the Bible, it is also true that drunkenness has been condemned and considered a sin. To really know what the Bible says about drinking, we ought to be clear what it meant by the word wine. Wine, for instance, was the common drink in ancient times, and Biblical scholars are of the view that, the water available for drinking contained pollutants and harmful microbes, which made it unfit for consumption. From what is believed, the alcohol content in wine was needed to kill these microbes, and also to keep ailments and infections at bay. If all this is to be believed, then we need to consider another factor in analyzing the reference of wine. The alcoholic content in wine back then, and now, is bound to differ, solely because the process of distillation began only around 1000 A.D. To know the truth, let’s try to decipher the actual messages from the Bible. Thus spoke the Lord Drink no wine or strong drink, you or your sons with you, when you go into the tent of meeting, lest you die. It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations. ―Leviticus 10:9 In the Old Testament, we see the Lord speaking to Aaron, the brother of Moses and the first High Priest, forbidding him and his sons from indulging in alcohol. In Numbers 6:2-3, we see the Lord speaking to Moses, asking him to tell the people that, whoever wished to take the Nazirite vow had to stay away from wine and strong drink. Abstinence from wine, vinegar, and the fruit itself, here, is of utmost importance for those who wished to be separated and consecrated. During the conception of Samson, as given in Judges 13:4, the Lord once again reminds us of the Nazirite vow, forbidding both Manoah and his wife, from consuming any form of strong drink and wine, and anything that would be unclean. Wisdom lies in following … Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise. ―Proverbs 20:1 Coming to the Book of Proverbs, the central theme is to give instructions for prudent behavior. Here, it’s not just the Nazirites who are to abstain from indulgence but also the wise, including leaders and rulers. In Proverbs 31:4-5, King Lemuel explains that wine and strong drink is not for rulers and kings, for it will take them away from what is established. Woe to those who rise early in the morning, that they may run after strong drink, who tarry late into the evening as wine inflames them! ― Isaiah 5:11 Misery, suffering, and punishment seem to rule the day as Isaiah talks about judgment, and calls for repentance and holiness. Which just means that indulging in the pleasures of the senses was considered to be unholy, and eventually called for the wrath and curse of God. The lighter side of it Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart, for God has already approved what you do. ― Ecclesiastes 9:7 Indeed, Solomon’s words give us something to cheer about. Taken literally, Solomon’s words can be applicable to the present. What the verse actually does is, calls us to trust God and His providence, not just because all else is meaningless, but because it is the Cruz of all life. Psalms 104:14-15 mentions that all things come from God, who joyfully gives food to satisfy the soul and wine to gladden the heart. What you need to remember … And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit. ―Ephesians 5:18 The Bible instructs us to avoid drunkenness and overindulgence, rather you are called to be sober and filled with the Holy Spirit. We, as children of God, are called to tread the path of wisdom and sanctity. In all measures, we, as people, are called to tread with caution, and never let the pleasures of life consume us in a fire. What alcohol can do … Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? Those who tarry long over wine; those who go to try mixed wine. Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly. In the end it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder. Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart utter perverse things. ―Proverbs 23:29-33 We do not need the Bible to be telling us this, most of us have tried and tested ways to claim the same. Alcohol, in whatever form, has at some point of time caused us to do things differently. In the very essence of it, the Scripture does not encourage you to sin against your conscience, thus, forbidding you from doing anything that will offend yourself and your fellow beings, in particular. Consuming alcohol, on the whole, is not really condemned but letting yourself give in to drunkenness, which will lead to a loss in sobriety, is definitely looked down upon. Finally, what matters is not allowing anything to overpower the mind and the body, for that which is overpowered is enslaved. |

Business / Obj Farm To Generate 30,000 Jobs For Liberians by Boyeseth(m): 4:16pm On Jul 29, 2013 |
Liberia’s Minister of Agriculture, Dr Florence Chenoweth, on Sunday said that Obasanjo Farms in Liberia would create about 30,000 job opportunities for the citizens. Chenoweth made the observation during the dedication ceremony of Obasanjo Farms Liberia Incorporated at Gbah Foboi, Grand Cape Mount County, in Liberia. She noted that the Liberian government had focused its attention on the agriculture sector in its efforts to create jobs for the people. She, however, urged legislators, chiefs and superintendents from Cape Mount County to advise youths in the area to seize the opportunities presented by the new farm to become productive, while ensuring the area’s development. Chenoweth stressed that the establishment of Obasanjo Farms would help in addressing one the salient aspects of the government’s efforts to ensure food security. She noted that more than 40 per cent of Liberian children had stunted growth, stressing the need to solve the problem by fast-tracking the production of eggs and poultry in Liberia. “We need to produce proteins either in beans or meat, which the cattle, goat and piggery produce, in Liberia, so as to ensure balance diets for our people’s nutrition,” she said. Earlier, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf described President Olusegun Obasanjo as a visionary leader who was responsive to the needs of the people in critical areas. She commended Obasanjo for his constant support for Liberia and for having faith in the future of the country. Also speaking, Mr Daniel Atsu, the Group Managing Director of Obasanjo Holdings Limited, said that the farm was set up in anticipation of the adverse effects of global warming and climate change on poultry production in tropical Africa. He stressed that such anticipation informed the decision of Obasanjo to develop African poultry breeds which could thrive in hot and humid environment. Atsu said that the farm had six standard poultry houses, adding that two of them were for breeding young chicks, while the remaining four were equipped with three-tier automated layer cages. He said that the first and second batches of about 10,000 layers had started laying eggs. He said that the layer houses would soon be increased to 16, a capacity which would produce about 15,000 farm fresh eggs daily. Atsu said that the farm would offer unlimited opportunities to farmers to grow corn, soybeans or supply dried or smoked fish in large quantities, saying that the farm was situated on 125 acres of land. source:vanguard |

Nairaland / General / 1game by Boyeseth(m): 9:15pm On Jul 01, 2013 |
[sup][/sup]Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Aminu Maigari, Cross River State Deputy Governor, Efiok Cobham, several members of the Cross River State Executive Council, the Obong of Calabar, Chairmen of all the Eighteen Local Government Councils and Chairmen of Educational Boards in the State have all spoken on the need to curb violence and ignorance in the country as the 1 GAME campaign unveiled its much talked about ‘Education defeats Violence’ programme on Monday. In an event that took place in Calabar, the Cross RiverState capital, Maigari in a pre-recorded message advocated for respect in the fight against violence, saying: “The 1 GAME campaign is a voluntary organization that decides to educate Nigerians on how to develop and conduct themselves and must be respected by everyone.” Deputy Governor, Cobham in another recorded message called on the entire public to join in the fight against violence by uniting strongly with the 1 GAME campaign as it seeks to create a platform for children in Nigeria to gain a better future. Obong of Calabar and ruler of the Efik Kingdom, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V in his message, clamoured for a collective effort in the fight against violence and a better future for Nigerian children. In other key messages, Chairman of the Forum of Local Government Council Chairmen in Cross River State, Emil Inyang called on disadvantaged parents to send their vulnerable children to school by saying that apart from being less violent, a girl who completes basic education is three times less likely to contract HIV, while the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Joseph Ebam who made a similar call added that a child born to a literate mother is 50% more likely to survive pass the age of 5 years. 1 GAME founder, Philip Obaji while speaking said the ‘Education defeats Violence’ programme became necessary because the organization discovered that most people who were involved in all sorts of violent acts including sports were illiterates who lacked basic education, and so it became necessary to deal with the basic problem of violence which he described as “lack of education.” “We did a baseline survey in three states and discovered that 90% of those who will pick up arms to fight anywhere are illiterates without basic education at least,” he said. “What 1 GAME is doing through the ‘Education defeats Violence’ programme is to ensure that vulnerable children of school age have access to school and acquire basic education at least. As we all know, a child who completes basic education is three times less likely to be involved in violence and hoodlum acts. “So far, we have been campaigning seriously in the media, using renowned individuals and school pupils from impossible backgrounds to inspire vulnerable children by urging them to embrace basic education. In August, we shall embark on a door to door campaign here in Cross River to ensure that every child in the State is in school and learning. “This is the biggest campaign out of here. You can see that everyone in the state is involved. From the government to the traditional leaders, down to the women and youth leaders in every community. But it will not just be a thing for Cross River State alone. 1 GAME is a movement for Nigeria and Nigerians. Later in the year, we shall take the programme to other parts of the country particularly in the North where surveys are already taking place in two states,” he added. The ‘Education defeats Violence’ programme is the newest project initiated by the 1 GAME campaign to ensure that every vulnerable child acquires basic education at least, a move that will help reduce their tendencies to be involved in violent acts. |
Religion / Something Worse Than Boko Haram Is Coming by Boyeseth(m): 9:15pm On Jun 30, 2013 |
Something worse than Boko Haram is coming, says Prophet Olabayo Primate Olabayo It’s not a big deal that someone has stroke but I am okay. While on a trip to Kaduna, God had revealed to me that I would have stroke and would be away for some time. So I looked for someone who knew about stroke; one of my pastors. How did it happen and what was your first reaction? I was going for a revival in Kaduna and God told me to go with somebody who knows about stroke. The man had to follow me to Kaduna. When I got to Kaduna, they told me one of my townsmen was sick and when I got to his place, God said I should not do anything though he was suffering. I got a room for him, paid his bills and left after praying for him. As I was returning to the church in Kaduna, I had the attack. And did you have any medical treatment? Definitely! Why do you think it’s a spiritual attack? I know because God told me about it. I know it could be exhaustion because I pray and fast a lot. There was this rumour among the people that one of the reasons your church went down was because you were caught in adultery with somebody else’s wife. Is it true sir? God will forgive you. Where? That is why Nigeria cannot move forward. How do you expect me; I preach the Word of God, I preach against adultery, then I’ll be caught in such an act! Impossible! Anybody can lie against you. At your age sir, are you thinking of passing over the baton to someone else soon? I am a prophet and it is not hereditary. God can choose anybody. When it’s time for me, God will tell me to lay hands on the person. God has not told me yet, I’m still a young man. There are so many people that are coming up, not only one person. Among them, God will raise up leaders. We have young pastors coming up in the church who have the gift of the Word of God, the Bible. Not only vision, people believe that it’s when you just speak in tongues alone or see vision. No! There are different types of gifts. There are churches as soon as the founders pass away you don’t hear much from those churches… It can’t happen here because it’s God that called me. When it is time, God will raise up another leader among us. What do you foresee for Nigeria? We are sitting at the keg of gunpowder. We are looking at total darkness in the nation. We need to pray very well because these political people are not doing the right things. Nothing is working; the worst corruption is in Nigeria. There has never been corruption as worse as this. The name of Nigeria is now corruption and some of the journalists are not helping matters. People are being bribed. But there’s going to be a revolution. The poor will overtake the rich. You’ve not seen anything. You’ve not seen Boko Haram. Worse Boko Haram is about to happen and we have to pray against religious war that may last seven years. Let Jonathan drop his ambition for 2015. Let him work and allow his work speak for itself. Most of his political alleys especially from his Niger Delta are deceiving him and are talking carelessly. They will be consumed one after another. They are already beating war drums if he fails to return in 2015; let them keep quiet. They are not helping matters. Very soon they’ll start bombing. The chairman of PDP is going to face another problem because there’s going to be crisis and if care is not taken, he is going to be removed. They are going to scatter them and cause confusion between him and the president. Most of these governors that are being sacked are going to join hands together to form another party. A new party will emerge which will be more powerful than PDP. Not APC! Gov. Rotimi Amaechi’s current challenges will create more problems in this country. What’s the way out of all of these? How can we prevent this doom from coming to pass in Nigeria? The problem with Nigeria is leadership. We are so corrupt and wicked. We manipulate things and we don’t allow God to work. They don’t believe in God. They go about looking for protection; some of them think they are untouchable. They don’t believe there’s God. One day they are going to give account. God is going to intervene in the affairs of Nigeria very soon and a brand new nation will emerge from the ashes of a revolution. The president is being caged by some few people. When you are saying the truth, they arrest you. Some of his close people are enemies and he doesn’t know. If he’s not careful, they are going to run him down. There are things to be done spiritually. I don’t need to discuss all these with the Press because our leaders don’t have listening ears. We need to come together and work for this nation because we have children. We don’t want our children to suffer. Because if there’s war in Nigeria today, Ghana cannot accommodate the number of refugees. They are holding notional meetings. If they want to do something, somebody will talk today; they will give him millions of naira to keep quiet. They are not saying anything, they are only exchanging money and that is what is destroying this country. Our refineries are not working; the roads are bad, armed robbers have taken over; there’s no work, now they want to sack people. The man is making more mistakes everyday. Every step he takes, he’s making wrong decisions. Many of his advisers are selfish and wicked people. They are just accumulating wealth. And they are old. They don’t give up. They are acquiring properties. Some say Nigeria might not survive beyond 2015. Do you agree? I went to America of recent and I prophesied and it happened. Let me tell you, it’s not America that will dictate for us. God is saying that we should avoid war; religious war. Sir, is there anything the Church or anybody can do to avert a violent revolution? As I am prophesying now, some church leaders and prayer contractors will take it to them to get money, to get oil blocks and buy aeroplanes for themselves. That will not solve the problem. Despite the health cha-llenges, you still talk like this. When are you ever going to get tired? I can’t be tired. They have tried me. I was the only one condemning Sani Abacha. One day they sent one brig-adier to me, I was in my house. As he came, I said something is in your stomach, he said yes, Sir. They said you should come and arrest me, he said yes Sir. I said but you have a daughter, he said yes sir. That day, my phone just stopped working I know it was their handiwork. When he came, God revealed to me and I told him you are going to land into problem, your oga will die. Before Abacha died, one Austin came to me. He said he has a friend of Abubakar, I said he’s going to be next president and Abacha would die, and it happened. There’s nobody that God cannot catch. If 100 pastors and mallams are praying for them, they can’t survive. God is about to move if they don’t change and repent because they have put us under bondage for long. These pastors, let them change. They will say we are Pentecostals, that doesn’t mean you cannot speak truth. There was a time it was only me and Idahosa that were speaking during Babangida’s era. Most of these pastors that were condemning prophec-ies, are now prophesing. Where did they see it? Jealousy and envy are the things killing them. What is your own assessment of late Pa Obadare? He’s a man of God. He’s one of the chosen men of God, a soul winner, has the fear of God. That’s one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He was a blind man and was quoting the Bible. A good preacher of God. He’s one of the best in the Body of Christ that we miss. |
Politics / The Crimes Of General Muhammodu Buhari by Boyeseth(m): 9:23pm On Jun 26, 2013 |
The Crimes Of Buhari= By Wole Soyinka The grounds on which General Buhari is being promoted as the alternative choice are not only shaky, but pitifully naive. History matters. Records are not kept simply to assist the weakness of memory, but to operate as guides to the future. Of course, we know that human beings change. What the claims of personality change or transformation impose on us is a rigorous inspection of the evidence, not wishful speculation or behind-the- scenes assurances. Public offence, crimes against a polity, must be answered in the public space, not in caucuses of bargaining. In Buhari, we have been offered no evidence of the sheerest prospect of change. On the contrary, all evident suggests that this is one individual who remains convinced that this is one ex-ruler that the nation cannot call to order. Buhari need one remind anyone – was one of the generals who treated a Commission of Enquiry, the Oputa Panel, with unconcealed disdain. Like Babangida and Abdusalami, he refused to put in appearance even though complaints that were tabled against him involved a career of gross abuses of power and blatant assault on the fundamental human rights of the Nigerian citizenry. Prominent against these charges was an act that amounted to nothing less than judicial murder, the execution of a citizen under a retroactive decree. Does Decree 20 ring a bell? If not, then, perhaps the names of three youths – Lawal Ojuolape (30), Bernard Ogedengbe (29) and Bartholomew Owoh (26) do. To put it quite plainly, one of those three Ogedengbe – was executed for a crime that did not carry a capital forfeit at the time it was committed. This was an unconscionable crime, carried out in defiance of the pleas and protests of nearly every sector of the Nigerian and international community religious, civil rights, political, trade unions etc. Buhari and his sidekick and his partner-in-crime, Tunde Idiagbon persisted in this inhuman act for one reason and one reason only: to place Nigerians on notice that they were now under an iron, inflexible rule, under governance by fear. The execution of that youthful innocent for so he was, since the punishment did not exist at the time of commission – was nothing short of premeditated murder, for which the perpetrators should normally stand trial upon their loss of immunity. Are we truly expected to forget this violation of our entitlement to security as provided under existing laws? And even if our sensibilities have become blunted by succeeding seasons of cruelty and brutality, if power itself had so coarsened the sensibilities also of rulers and corrupted their judgment, what should one rightly expect after they have been rescued from the snare of power. At the very least, a revaluation, leading hopefully to remorse, and its expression to a wronged society. At the very least, such a revaluation should engender reticence, silence. In the case of Buhari, it was the opposite. Since leaving office he has declared in the most categorical terms that he had no regrets over this murder and would do so again. Human life is inviolate. The right to life is the uniquely fundamental right on which all other rights are based. The crime that General Buhari committed against the entire nation went further however, inconceivable as it might first appear. That crime is one of the most profound negations of civic being. Not content with hammering down the freedom of expression in general terms, Buhari specifically forbade all public discussion of a return to civilian, democratic rule. Let us constantly applaud our media those battle scarred professionals did not completely knuckle down. They resorted to cartoons and oblique, elliptical references to sustain the people’s campaign for a time-table to democratic rule. Overt agitation for a democratic time table however remained rigorously suppressed military dictatorship, and a specifically incorporated in Buhari and Idiagbon was here to stay. To deprive a people of volition in their own political direction is to turn a nation into a colony of slaves. Buhari enslaved the nation. He gloated and gloried in a master-slave relation to the millions of its inhabitants. It is astonishing to find that the same former slaves, now free of their chains, should clamour to be ruled by one who not only turned their nation into a slave plantation, but forbade them any discussion of their condition. So Tai Solarin is already forgotten? Tai who stood at street corners, fearlessly distributing leaflets that took up the gauntlet where the media had dropped it. Tai who was incarcerated by that regime and denied even the medication for his asthmatic condition? Tai did not ask to be sent for treatment overseas; all he asked was his traditional medicine that had proved so effective after years of struggle with asthma! Nor must we omit the manner of Buhari coming to power and the pattern of his corrective rule. Shagari’s NPN had already run out of steam and was near universally detested except of course by the handful that still benefited from that regime of profligacy and rabid fascism. Responsibility for the national condition lay squarely at the door of the ruling party, obviously, but against whom was Buharis coup staged? Judging by the conduct of that regime, it was not against Shagaris government but against the opposition. The head of government, on whom primary responsibility lay, was Shehu Shagari. Yet that individual was kept in cozy house detention in Ikoyi while his powerless deputy, Alex Ekwueme, was locked up in Kiri-kiri prisons. Such was the Buhari notion of equitable apportionment of guilt and/or responsibility. And then the cascade of escapes of the wanted, and culpable politicians. Manhunts across the length and breadth of the nation, roadblocks everywhere and borders tight as steel zip locks. Lo and behold, the chairman of the party, Chief Akinloye, strolled out coolly across the border. Richard Akinjide, Legal Protector of the ruling party, slipped out with equal ease. The Rice Minister, Umaru Dikko, who declared that Nigerians were yet to eat from dustbins – escaped through the same airtight dragnet. The clumsy attempt to crate him home was punishment for his ingratitude, since he went berserk when, after waiting in vain, he concluded that the coup had not been staged, after all, for the immediate consolidation of the party of extreme right-wing vultures, but for the military hyenas. The case of the overbearing Secretary-General of the party, Uba Ahmed, was even more noxious. Uba Ahmed was out of the country at the time. Despite the closure of the Nigerian airspace, he compelled the pilot of his plane to demand special landing permission, since his passenger load included the almighty Uba Ahmed. Of course, he had not known of the change in his status since he was airborne. The delighted airport commandant, realizing that he had a much valued fish swimming willingly into a waiting net, approved the request. Uba Ahmed disembarked into the arms of a military guard and was promptly clamped in detention. Incredibly, he vanished a few days after and reappeared in safety overseas. Those whose memories have become calcified should explore the media coverage of that saga. Buhari was asked to explain the vanished act of this much prized quarry and his response was one of the most arrogant levity. Coming from one who had shot his way into power on the slogan of displine, it was nothing short of impudent. Shall we revisit the tragicomic series of trials that landed several politicians several lifetimes in prison? Recall, if you please, the judicial processes undergone by the septuagenarian Chief Adekunle Ajasin. He was arraigned and tried before Buhari’s punitive tribunal but acquitted. Dissatisfied, Buhari ordered his re-trial. Again, the Tribunal could not find this man guilty of a single crime, so once again he was returned for trial, only to be acquitted of all charges of corruption or abuse of office. Was Chief Ajasin thereby released? No! He was ordered detained indefinitely, simply for the crime of winning an election and refusing to knuckle under Shagari’s reign of terror. The conduct of the Buhari regime after his coup was not merely one of double, triple, multiple standards but a cynical travesty of justice. Audu Ogbeh, currently chairman of the Action Congress was one of the few figures of rectitude within the NPN. Just as he has done in recent times with the PDP, he played the role of an internal critic and reformer, warning, dissenting, and setting an example of probity within his ministry. For that crime he spent months in unjust incarceration. Guilty by association? Well, if that was the motivating yardstick of the administration of the Buhari justice, then it was most selectively applied. The utmost severity of the Buhari-Idiagbon justice was especially reserved either for the opposition in general, or for those within the ruling party who had showed the sheerest sense of responsibility and patriotism. Shall I remind this nation of Buhari’s deliberate humiliating treatment of the Emir of Kano and the Oni of Ife over their visit to the state of Israel? I hold no brief for traditional rulers and their relationship with governments, but insist on regarding them as entitled to all the rights, privileges and responsibilities of any Nigerian citizen. This royal duo went to Israel on their private steam and private business. Simply because the Buhari regime was pursuing some antagonistic foreign policy towards Israel, a policy of which these traditional rulers were not a part, they were subjected on their return to a treatment that could only be described as a head masterly chastisement of errant pupils. Since when, may one ask, did a free citizen of the Nigerian nation require the permission of a head of state to visit a foreign nation that was willing to offer that tourist a visa.? One is only too aware that some Nigerians love to point to Buhari’s agenda of discipline as the shining jewel in his scrap-iron crown. To inculcate discipline however, one must lead by example, obeying laws set down as guides to public probity. Example speaks louder than declarations, and rulers cannot exempt themselves from the disciplinary strictures imposed on the overall polity, especially on any issue that seeks to establish a policy for public well-being. The story of the thirty something suitcases it would appear that they were even closer to fifty – found unavoidable mention in my recent memoirs, YOU MUST SET FORTH AT DOWN, written long before Buhari became spoken of as a credible candidate. For the exercise of a changeover of the national currency, the Nigerian borders air, sea and land had been shut tight. Nothing was supposed to move in or out, not even cattle egrets. Yet a prominent camel was allowed through that needles eye. Not only did Buhari dispatch his aide- de-camp, Jokolo later to become an emir - to facilitate the entry of those cases, he ordered the redeployment as I later discovered – of the Customs Officer who stood firmly against the entry of the contravening baggage. That officer, the incumbent Vice-president is now a rival candidate to Buhari, but has somehow, in the meantime, earned a reputation that totally contradicts his conduct at the time. Wherever the truth lies, it does not redound to the credibility of the dictator of that time, General Buhari whose word was law, but whose allegiances were clearly negotiable. On the theme of double, triple, multiple standards in the enforcement of the law, and indeed of the decrees passed by the Buhari regime at the time, let us recall the notorious case of Triple A Alhaji Alhaji Alhaji, then Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. Who was caught, literally, with his pants down in distant Austria. That was not the crime however, and private conduct should always remain restricted to the domain of private censure. There was no decree against civil servants proving just as hormone driven as anyone else, especially outside the nation’s borders. However, there was a clear decree against the keeping of foreign accounts, and this was what emerged from the Austrian escapade. Alhaji Alhaji kept, not one, but several undeclared foreign accounts, and he had no business being in possession of the large amount of foreign currency of which he was robbed by his overnight companion. The media screamed for an even application of the law, but Buhari had turned suddenly deaf. By contrast, Fela Anikulapo languished in goal for years, sentenced under that very draconian decree. His crime was being in possession of foreign exchange that he had legitimately received for the immediate upkeep of his band as they set off for an international engagement. A vicious sentence was slapped down on Fela by a judge who later became so remorse stricken at least after Buhari’s overthrow that he went to the King of Afro-beat and apologized. Lesser known was the traumatic experience of the director of an international communication agency, an affiliate of UNESCO. Akin Fatoyinbo arrived at the airport in complete ignorance of the new currency decree. He was thrown in gaol in especially brutal condition, an experience from which he never fully recovered. It took several months of high-level intervention before that innocent man was eventually freed. These were not exceptional but mere sample cases from among hundreds of others, victims of a decree that was selectively applied, a decree that routinely penalized innocents and ruined the careers and businesses of many. What else? What does one choose to include or leave out? What precisely was Ebenezer Babatope’s crime that he should have spent the entire tenure of General Buhari in detention? Nothing beyond the fact that he once warned in the media that Buhari was an ambitious soldier who would bear watching through the lenses of a coup- detat. Babatope’s father died while he was in Buhari’s custody, the dictator remained deaf to every plea that he be at least released to attend his father’s funeral, even under guard. I wrote an article at the time, denouncing this pointless insensitivity. So little to demand by a man who was never accused of, nor tried for any crime, much less found guilty. Such a load of vindictiveness that smothered all traces of basic human compassion deserves no further comment in a nation that values its traditions. But then, speaking the truth was not what Buhari, as a self-imposed leader, was especially enamoured of enquire of Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor both of whom, faithful to their journalistic calling, published nothing but the truth, yet ended up sentenced under Buhari’s decree. Mind you, no one can say that Buhari was not true to his word. shall tamper with the freedom of the press swore the dictator immediately on grabbing office, and this was exactly what he did. And so on, and on, and on. |
