Nairaland / General / Advice Needed by BrainyHUBB(m): 10:44am On Jan 26, 2018
Good day people, i need some advice.

I have a 2.4kva Inverter with two 100 amps batteries connected, luckily i have good electric supply, but outages once in a while. If i were to charge the inverter with a generator, what size of generator is advisable in order to protect the inverter/battery life?

3KVA? 4KVA? 5KVA?

Thanks..

I was in medical school for a bit.....the reason is because medical students write continuously in lectures as 90 percent of the lectures are dictated so you have to write very fast and in shorthand to really get enough details..over the years it affects your handwriting..........

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Should I Leave My Full Time Job For A Contract Job At Zenith Bank? by BrainyHUBB(m): 8:49am On Jun 09, 2017
You have some points though, But i need to make you understand that being a full staff in a company you earn 150k is better than being a contract staff in another company and earn 350k...I know cos i am a contract staff in a Multinational Oil and Gas firm. The only thing you get mostly is your salary and nothing else. I go to swamp locations for weeks and don't get paid a dime..only a tap on my back. The main staff collect heavy allowances for shorter time spent. I never had a HMO for years, rather i use my Wife's HMO, her salary is not up to 90k, but her HMO covers my family because she is a full staff in a logistics company. I don't have housing allowance, my wife does. My wife has a vacation plan, i don't...for me to go on leave i'll have to justify it..while the staff just fill leave plan and go.... My salary for 4 years has never been reviewed. The full staff talk to you without respect like you all do not have the same University degree, only some departments that have White men as Bosses are a little better. This is a multinational Oil company, so you can imagine being a contract staff in an indigenous firm. Its not something to look forward to

Yemea1:

Guy don't ask for advice because of the following reasons
Because people that want to advice you are not close to your present job
They dont have knowledge about the kind of job both entails
The don't know you hobby what you like most doing
They don't know your vision
They dont know the stage stage you're presently on your mission in order for you to aarcheive your mission
They dont know what the pay is like I mean both job
They know if you're the type that likes working 24/7 even forget to eat.
They dont know if you have passion for banking job or not
They dont know if you're the type that really wantbto work and little and set up your own firm if you're banking is your best
Job to train yourself.
Etc.
What you should be asking for is you need people to analys the diff between full time job and contract job then you will then decide because you're the only one who is close to the ttwo jobs and you will take responsibilities for youdecision if you fail or not guy because in nigeria of ours today some contract jobs are wy betterof full time job..

In mobile chevron shell and many other multinationals companies most of of theeir staffs are on contract..

I drop my pen.. we won't know tge value of a thing until we missed the use of it...

PLEASE I BEG YOU, never leave a job to become a contract staff in any Establishment in Nigeria...Its not worth it......If it was a Job outside these shores,,maybe....But being a contract staff in Nigeria is shit!

Fellow NLers please I need your take on this. I currently have a full time job - a career building kinda job. However, after a CBT TEST with Zenith Bank for job offer which I only learnt on the CBT Test day that it's a contract job, I was called for an interview but I rescheduled the interview due to pressing tasks at my current workplace.

Meanwhile, as I wait for the call back, I want to know the pros and cons of this. Should I leave my present job for it?

Health / Persistent Black Soot In Port Harcourt by BrainyHUBB(m): 11:15am On Feb 08, 2017
For a while now, Port Harcourt residents in Rivers State have been noticing black soot everywhere, cars, rooftops and even inside their houses. The major concern is no one seems to know the origin of this soot that is seriously polluting the environments and might also pose a serious health threat to residents, I think it's about time The Nigerian environmental society and the Government of Rivers State did something.

I hope they are not trying to say they haven't noticed? The soot is now part of Port Harcourt's sights and sounds....it's very visible....so please I implore the State government and relevant agencies to do something as soon as possible because, in these times of recession, it is not advisable for one to get sick.

Lets see if we can get them to listen. You can also go on twitter and re-tweet with the hatch tag #BlackSootInPortHarcourt

Lets make this trend. Thanks everyone.

Nairaland / General / How To Withdraw Money From The ATM Without Your Debit Card by BrainyHUBB(m): 4:02pm On Feb 06, 2017
While exploring the underbellies of the internet, I discovered something that would blow your minds. Apparently, there is a new way in Nigeria to withdraw money from the ATM machine without your debit card being physically present.
It sounded like a big joke at first until I personally confirmed it. Interswitch, Nigeria’s largest payment processing company have launched Verve World, an app that lets users do the magic I mentioned above.
In an easy step by step format, I am going to show you how to use Verve Paycode without any stress.

Step 1- Download App

verve-world

Of course, you have to download the Verve World App on your device first of all. The file size is 3.65 MB and it is free to download here.

Step 2- Register

verve paycode 3

Registration is just a two-step process that is easier than pie. You can signup as a new user, add the details of your ATM card on to the Verve World App and proceed.

Or simply login with an existing Interswitch account. Most people would find this a lot easier than signing up afresh as card details would not be requested again. This was how I did mine.

verve paycode 4

Step 3- Generate a Verve Paycode

verve paycode 6

After registration, there is a “PAYCODE” option in the drop-down menu of the Verve World App that lets you generate a Verve Paycode, click on it.

verve paycode 5

You would be given the option of generating a unique one-time code valid for 24 hours, which can be used to withdraw cash from an ATM machine without a card. The Verve Paycode can then be sent to a loved one or friend to withdraw a pre-set amount of money from most ATMs in the country.

verve paycode 7

You can also generate a POS PIN for payment at eateries and at the mall.
Verdict
The Verve World App can do a whole lot of other cool stuff. But honestly, Verve Paycode is still the feature that excites me the most. Cardless transactions that allows you shop and get without the hassles of lugging multiple cards all over the place.
There is an option to automatically recharge your mobile phone at the click of a button, but this Verve Paycode has got me all hyped. I am still exploring the limits of the Verve Paycode, would keep you updated.
Meanwhile, you can click here to download it and discover some awesome cardless transaction features for yourself. Also, let me know your personal experience in the comment section.

Nairaland / General / Some Hard Facts Of Life.. by BrainyHUBB(m): 3:08pm On Feb 06, 2017
People say and even parents say, even teachers say, even your friends say, and the whole damn world says….”be yourself. You’re unique.”
Then when you do be yourself..
“Oooh did you see what she was wearing, so revealing!”
“I know, what a slut.”
“I hear she slept with 10 guys at the same time.”
“What you on about? You did it with 15!”
“OMG! Shhhh. Don’t say it so loud. People might think we’re different.”
“He’s such a player. Just want sex.”
“Yeah he is.”
“ What are you saying? Didn’t you date him for 6 months?”
“Shhh. I don’t want my other friends to know..”

Yes, be yourself but in a way that makes them comfortable, validated, accepted, approved to fit in their world.
The world we live in is filled with people with their own perception and they will like you to know, well, shove it down you, that their perception is right, it is the truth and being “yourself,” doesn’t really mean being yourself.
Being yourself to them will mean…
Please don’t be some rebel and turn out totally different to how I want you to be.
Whatever you do, don’t mess with my social reputation
Whatever you do, don’t go off dating so, so, because it makes me, we and us, look bad.
What will the neighbors say
What will my co-workers say
What will random people in street say
What will the boss say
You will lose friends if you try dressing up like that
You’re hairstyle will intimidate other people
Women don’t approach men. Don’t be daft
What? You’re dating a 40 year guy? You’re only 18! You can’t. I said be yourself but with MY RULES.

What? You’re dating an 18 year old but what will the other family and cousins will think of us.
The social standards do not accept this. You need to change this and this and this, Oh and this too.
No, it’s impossible and anyway, it’s not you, is it? (roll eyes)
People tell you all sorts but really, they want you to do it in a way that makes THEM feel comfortable.

Much of what we follow is steeped with superstition, and that is what social norms is and comes from. All designed to social control the masses.
The word Decent.
The word Modesty
These word have been corrupted and designed to nothing more but to make us feel ashamed, guilty and follow the social norms favored by one’s social peers. These were created for Capitalism and States.

These words, burned women as witches. These words, got tribes to believe that their body, their private parts were haunted by spirits, evil, demons, and to have sex without following tribal rules, is seen as a woman and man possessed.
That they must be cast out from the village.
When someone gets isolated and cast out of the village, it is suicide. You’re on your own and you got predators of animals but also other tribes too who can hunt you down. You got the weather too.

So they would turn their back on them.
They judged them as shame, unclean, untouched, possessed by the spirits. They must put on some cloth to show their shame and cast out from the village as a warning to all. Their unclothedness stands for shame and are guilty of an act punishment by being removed from the tribe.
They are the fallen ones.
Familiar?
How about a reminder..

So now you are fighting to make sure you get validated by the tribal leader and their followers. You better not slip up. You better watch it or you too will be shamed and your unclothedness covered up. If you show skin, you are inviting the evil spirits…the devil.
If you have sex here and there, you are possessed by the evil spirits in which they believed they haunt the private parts of women and men. So if you even step out of line, well, you are done.
You lose everything and separated from the woman you’re with.
You’ll be thrown out and she, well, she be shunned for a long time. She be seen as unclean. The untouchable, a dark spirit has over taken her.
Even…burnt alive or hung, or cast out from the village. Or if she conforms, then maybe, just maybe they’d arrange her to be the tribe leaders servant.
________________________________________
How about the ships that came to these countries, visited these tribes, stole, killed, raped, ravaged, and then came back with the old ancient superstitions and knowledge.
If works within these cultures then why not use them as a means for social control.
Hey not one nation can say they didn’t do this, so I’m not bashing but getting you to see the ugly truth.
You can’t make this shit up.
They shipped it to us and suddenly we got the same poison that happened way back, in ancient superstition times.
They started hunting women and burning them, calling them witches. Anyone having sex outside marriage was seen as possessed, devil worshippers.
And if you went against them…your land was taken.
If you knew science, if you practiced it, they come for you and say it is witch craft. These women were learned. These men was also learned but they were forced, tortured to say they were seduced by the witches and their devil. When done, they killed the men as well and burnt the women.
Those who also sided with them got similar punishment.
They took the lands of so many people, taxed others up to the hilt and suddenly we got the same thing that controlled the men and women in ancient times.
It’s called…fear.
Another word for it is social conditioning.

Social Control…
So now people began to adopt, follow, change, until it became acceptable and everyone had to be careful because you could be next.
You might be judged, burnt or hanged.
So you had to work to seek approval, acceptance, hang around the same usual crowd and be careful who you talk to. Making sure the leaders, the preachers, the clerics, the witch hunters was on your side.
You know, it’s like…you must have lots of likes, votes, tweets because that means what you’re saying is…true. That you are valuable.

The printing press kicked in and the fear increased..
Monks began writing about modesty is about sex, about your body. Modesty was never about sex, and the function of body and nor was it about clothes.
It was about avoidance and protection.
Avoidance from jealous women and men. Avoidance from tribal feud. Also insects and weather.
But they attached modesty to sex, sexual body function and clothes.
So began then slut shaming and man-whoring labels and distributed the materials that talk about those who have no shame, who are possessed by evil are doing this and that.
They went to war with people, print lots of stories, scare people and even get them to feel ashamed about their their body, about sex, and put labels like loose, unclean, slut, LovePeddler, too easy, player etc.
Do that often enough, circulate that lie enough time and people begin to believe in the lie. They adopt because if they didn’t then their..PEERS will get very upset, and call you a slut, LovePeddler, too easy, evil, possessed by the devil too, a player.
You could lose your land, your name, your reputation, your job. You won’t have all these men wanting to marry your daughter, or your son won’t be able to marry someone else’s daughter.

What you have here is the birth of social conditioning…
Training society to behave in a manner to get a certain type of response from their social peers. If you don’t adopt and follow….you are judged, isolated, labeled and scorned.

How does this impact your life?
You are born into this world.
For the rest of your life you are going to seek approval, validation, doing all for acceptance and to fit in. So much so, you will find yourself not knowing who the hell you are.
Now don’t get me wrong.
Healthy validation is ok.
You want to get paid for your work. You want to be rewarded for doing more for a company. You want to hear your loved one say they love you and feel all fuzzy and awesome.
You want to get credit for your ideas, talent and any work.
You want your friend to smile and shake your hand.
You want mutual respect as you work as a team.
You want your mum/dad say they care and love you.
You want to know you did well in whatever you want to achieve
But we have to have balance because..

Validation can also…stop you getting what you want.
You might have a passion for something but it is prohibited within the culture and religion you have born in. You might love to draw, paint, design and it is prohibited to do so.
You might want to be a environmentalist but your peers want you to be a doctor, a lawyer or an accountant.
If you do it then you will lose any support, you will get your peers angry or whatever they try to guilt trip you with.
You are attracted to a woman and you’re older man but she’s 18 or 20, or 24 and so you start thinking about what others might think, what you’re friends, relative and people you don’t even know might think if they saw you together.
You want everyone to know but you can’t, not just yet. You want your relatives to know, friends to know but you’re forgetting something.
You’re in a different religion but the other person is of different race, culture and might not believe in religions. Or does but a different ones. You wonder about how you will “shame” them and what it be like if community knew.
What if the man/woman can’t handle his/own own shit and leaves you. How can you face them now? You’ll be alone.
You be cast out.

What is important here?
An amazing relationship, real love, a rich experience, a long life amazing relationship or validation?
You start doing things on how it looks for other people.

You even compromise what you desire.
It dictates your whole life, your relationships, your job, your profession and now you do all for the sake of being validated, approved and accepted by someone or society.
Then one day, you look back and realize, the thing you hated the most and what you said you’d never become….you became exactly that.

You also do you said you hate people doing to you.
You judge. You label. You call women sluts, whores, too easy. You call men who have sex with different women as guys who only care about sex. You start being insecure about sex and connecting sex like it’s some trophy to give away.
You begin to worry of showing skin.
Because if you’re wearing “revealing” clothes….you will be seen as possessed by evil spirits.
You start calling guys who don’t give a Bleep about this bullshit as players, as guys who just want sex and on and on it goes.
You will discover the love we are conditioned with is a fear kind of love. It is the ego kind of love. It is the fear of loss kind of love.
It will cause havoc in your life to come.
You will find women believe you cannot love other men. You will find men who believe you cannot love other women. You will find most people belive in what is known as love.
But this type of love is a prison. It’s is not what it seems.
It is fear. It is filled with jealousy and possessiveness. It’s childish, immature, choking and deep inside you know this.
But afraid to wake up to it’s ugly truth.
You find in years to come how much of what you have grown to believe in is complete bollocks and you will even question your own existence too.
Oh there be some good in it. Sure. There will be something good that came from all this but you will also see the ugliness of it too.

In all this mess you will also have a choice.
The choice to either leave that diamond of you inside you, or begin to dig, get that dirt out of the way, forge and shape the diamond within you. Until you become what you desired to become.
But I warn you…
If you want to live the way you want to, speak your mind, pursue your own path, and to avoid following much of the social norms, then be prepared for the world to try to use fear of loss against you.
They ALWAYS use fear on.
They will always say what you might lose
How you will not be trusted
How you will lose your reputation
How you will be on your own
How you will lose resources
How you won’t get the job/promotion
How you will never get a date
How no one will ever love you
How you’re content won’t have lots of votes
How you will lose friends
How your parents will get upset
How you will never see heaven
How you will only see hell

You get the idea. Fear. Validation.
You’re going to need to question everything and you’re not going to find this knowledge from someone who follow the social norms, and who is afraid of living the life they want.
You’ll hear them advise, talk all wisdom but really, you will find they don’t follow the words they write and say to you.
So question everything, learn yourself, as I did and be ready for whatever you believed to be challenged by the path that leads you to knowledge.
Be prepared for people to judge you and be prepared to stand up for what you believe in.
Most fear fear change.
Most fear the unknown.
Most fear uncertainty.
Most want happiness, freedom, living the life they want and YES sex, in every way but in all their wanting, the comfort zone is too strong.
Everyone doesn’t really wants to know the truth.
Truth doesn’t and has never set anyone free.
Living it will, if you detach from the need for validation, impressing others, seeking approval and much of what so many of us used to seek until we opened our minds.
Most people will like you to obey like a good dog and follow the social norm rules and not rock the boat.

Have empathy.
Don’t see any as bad. Have empathy, be forgiving, understand they are scared. It won’t hit you as hard if you don’t seek validation.
Have understanding even with blazing your own path, when writing, doing, creating, launching and battling against the bullshit to raise awareness for those who truly want to grow.
Stand on your own two feet.
Avoid trying to debate with them.
Avoid debating period.
You have no time to debate.
If you give a damn and more serious about your life and your greater purpose, you have no time to debate. World is full of opinions.
They love to give you their opinion and think they are entitled too.
Don’t debate.

Instead…do your work. Focus on the job at hand.
Blaze your own path and be humble, in that you do not see yourself better than anyone else, even if they do not know what you know.
In the end, what matters is not even the destination but rather you look back on the people you have impacted, loved, forgiven and inspired.
The rest, well, you won’t be able to take it with you.
Enjoy the most magnificent ride of your life because when it’s over, it is over. Make this one life count. Live it by your own code of behavior.

Nairaland / General / Africa’s “youngest Billionaire” Is Actually Worth Less Than $600,000 by BrainyHUBB(m): 2:32pm On Feb 06, 2017
Ashish Thakkar, the 35-year-old entrepreneur commonly referred to as Africa’s youngest billionaire, isn’t quite as successful as he would seem. A messy divorce is exposing his finances and attracting scrutiny into his business dealings.
In October, Thakkar told a family court judge in London that he was worth only £445,532 (about $541,000). He also noted that he doesn’t own a stake in Mara Group, his African investment group that has attracted the likes of former Barclays head Bob Diamond, with whom Thakkar co-founded the banking group Atlas Mara. Divorce proceedings have been halted until Thakkar’s total wealth, including his offshore assets, can be assessed.
A Wall Street Journal investigation published Feb. 2 reveals his various investments and projects are also not doing so well. Mara’s investments and assets are worth about $30 million, according to the Journal, which reviewed court documents and filings and interviewed people related to the company and Thakkar. In addition, Atlas Mara lost almost 80% of its stock market value over the last three years.

Thakkar told the paper that the company, which doesn’t have to file public financial reports, that he never claimed to be a billionaire, and that the firm has always been owned by his mother and sister. “Being the face of something doesn’t make you the owner of it,” he said.
Thakkar, whose family fled Rwanda during the 1994 genocide, has attributed his success to being a refugee. He left school at the age of 15 and began selling computer parts. According to Bloomberg’s Billionaires index, Thakkar’s net worth is about $425 million, and his most valuable asset is Ison BPO, an outsourcing company that operates in Africa and India.

Foreign Affairs / The March To Impeachment by BrainyHUBB(m): 2:13pm On Feb 06, 2017
There are already plenty of grounds to impeach Donald Trump. The really interesting question is when key Republicans will decide that he’s more of a liability than an asset. If Trump keeps sucking up to Vladimir Putin, it could happen sooner than you think. The first potential count is Trump’s war with the courts. The Supreme Court is likely to give expedited review to the order by the 9th Circuit upholding Judge James Robart’s order that tossed out Trump’s bans on immigrants or refugees from seven countries, even permanent US residents and others with valid green cards. It’s encouraging that the agencies of government, such as the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security, immediately deferred to the court order, not to a president who thinks he can govern by decree. But suppose the Supreme Court finds against Trump? Will he try to defy the high court? That would be a first-class impeachable offense.

Even Richard Nixon deferred to a Supreme Court order to turn over the Watergate tapes. A second category of impeachable offense involves his mixing his personal profits with his official duties as president. That describes his bizarre romance with Vladimir Putin, who presides over a nation where Trump has extensive business interests, as well as Trump’s double standards in determining which Muslim nations were exempted from his executive order. Republican alarm at Trump continues to increase at an accelerating rate. What are the odds that Trump randomly excluded Muslim nations in which he has business interests? These were precisely nations that did send terrorists. The covered countries sent no terrorists, and had no Trump investments.

Meanwhile, the CIA investigation of Trump’s bizarre coziness with Putin continues. I know, I know ― impeachment requires charges by the House, and then a trial by the Senate. And these chambers are of course controlled by Republicans. However, Republican alarm at Trump continues to increase at an accelerating rate. What is most appalling Republicans right now is Trump’s weird habit of apologizing for Putin. The dam broke Sunday morning, when Trump compared Putin’s Russia with America one time too often. Even Bill O’Reilly pushed back: “Putin’s a killer,” O’Reilly said. “You got a lot of killers,” Trump shot back. “What, you think our country’s so innocent?” This claim of equivalence, usually limited to the far left in the Soviet era, was too much for even the most loyal of Republicans. “He’s a thug,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said of Putin (though he could have been describing Trump.) Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union,” McConnell added, “The Russians annexed Crimea, invaded Ukraine and messed around in our elections. No, I don’t think there’s any equivalency between the way the Russians conduct themselves and the way the United States does.” It was also too much for the Wall Street Journal editorial page: “Trump puts US on moral par with Putin’s Russia,” the Wall Street Journal’s Bret Stephens tweeted. “Never in history has a President slandered his country like this.” Several other Republican senators quickly followed suit. Something is just plain fishy about Trump’s Putophilia. It can’t just be one thug’s admiration for another. Either Trump is looking to his business deals, or it’s a valentine for Putin’s help with turning the election, in expectation of more such help. Or maybe both.

Do we really want President Pence? Well, we certainly want to be rid of President Trump. So here is an impeachment scenario that looks increasingly plausible: Republicans stick with Trump for a while, as he delivers goodies like deregulation of gas, oil and Wall Street, tax cuts, school privatization, gutting of labor protection, and at least one rightwing Supreme Court justice. But at some point, the GOP leadership concludes that he is just too bizarre, too much of a hazard for setting off wars, both trade wars and hot ones, and too much of a risk for 2018. So they decide to ditch him in favor of Vice President Pence, who is a more conventional far-right conservative and not a certifiable whack-job. I’m told by one source that this is already being discussed in senior Republican circles. Republicans could do this either via impeachment, a protracted process that plays out while a wounded Trump can do even more impulsive and vengeful damage. Or they could move more quickly via the 25th Amendment to have Trump certified as impaired, and take him out in a net. The wager is that Republicans would then get credit for ridding America of an unstable would-be dictator, and they could regroup under Pence in time to limit damage in the 2018 election. Trump was never their guy anyway. Hold on, do we really want President Pence? Well, we certainly want to be rid of President Trump.

That might actually be something the two parties could agree upon. As for Pence, he took what looked to be the doomed job as Trump’s running mate, mainly because it offered him an exit from Indiana, where he was a monumentally unpopular and inept governor. Democrats could do a lot worse than having Pence as the opposition. Also, the dwindling hard core of Trump zealots did not exactly vote for tax cuts for the rich and cuts in Social Security and Medicare when they voted for Trump. They didn’t vote for Goldman Sachs running the economic team, and they didn’t vote for Putin. Then again, neither did they vote for Mike Pence, not exactly Mr. Populist. Replacing the impeached Nixon with the well-liked Gerald Ford in 1974 did not work out so for the Republicans, who lost record seats in that November’s mid-term. This is totally uncharted territory, people.

In order to save Ney's life, his lawyer Dupin declared that Ney was now Prussian and could not be judged by a French court, as Ney's hometown of Sarrelouis had been annexed by Prussia.
