Phinalphantasy: Hello all. Nice post. Thanks for the info. You guys have been helpful a lot. Id like to quit my banking job and go for Masters in software engineering or embedded design, most likely in Chalmers university in sweden. This is a summary of the steps I've outlined in doing this. Kindly help correct if I'm wrong cos my deductions were from my study of this post.
I choose a school in Europe either Finland Norway or Sweden . I write ielts since TOEFL has been cancelled in Nigeria.I must have a minimum of 1.5million in my account for residency permit. I must meet a score of 90/92 in my ielts as well. I must also be able to meet other conditions I'm yet to grasp.

My hopes are I'll be able to be earning small change while schooling as well, that racism won't be a serious issue there, language barrier will not hinder opportunities. Amongst others.

I don't know if my assertions are on point.
Thank you

Do not take Finland, Sweden and Norway to be the same. Each country has different immigration requirements for studies.

Bunmiemich: Thanks @Callygood; only that I don't understand their statement that 60 ECTS = 1 year study, so 4 years = abt 240 ECTS but my total credit units in school is 170 in total so I don't really know how to equate this to ECTS.

Finnish universities expects an applicant to have completed 180 ECTS at bachelor' level before applying for master's programme. 170 units will not be accepted as equivalent of 180 ECTS. If you have completed any supplementary courses, you can add it to your 170 units to make up 180 ECTS.

Another option is to go back to the very beginning of your programme i.e. year 1. Calculate the hours you have spent on each course, both in class and outside class. Write a letter about this which can be attested by the university you have graduated. In Finland, the number of hours spent anywhere doing school assignments, projects or tasks can be regarded as hours of studies.

I'm not sure if this will work but only giving an option for you to try. You can seek better options from people who know more about Finnish application system.

Bunmiemich: Hi guys, @Dahonestboss, this question is for you pls and I require ur quick response.
Filling my application form, I'm required to state my course units in ECTS, I don't kno hw to go abt this conversion abeg. Pls can u put me tru. Thanks.

Usually, Finnish ECTS = 26 - 27 hours of work load for 1 ECT. It means, if you have studied for 27 hours, you have achieved 1 ECT. In the case of using Nigerian qualification, the unit of your courses can be used as the number of ECTS you have completed. eg. Cost Account - 4 units (Nigerian qualification), it also means 4 ECTS. It is simple as that.

Hello the bAft, so eventually how much were you able to extend your passport for? i have 1 year validity on my passport, i guess the option i need to take is extension. can i do it in lagos? thanks

There is nothing like extention of e-passport for now. You will apply for a new passport with different passport number.
Travel / Re: E-passport Renewal/extension by callygood: 3:45pm On Jan 04, 2013
Hey guys. I am confused right now after reading all this. In my own case, I was approved for visa on 27th of december 2012 which is some few days back. I'm suppost to pick up my visa at ikeja tomorrow. Before my interview at US embassy lagos, my passport was suppose to expire in June 2013. But now I already have a visa of 2 years on it, what do I do? Do I travel to the US with it because its an F1 visa and I am to resume in April which is just 2 months before the expiry of my passport. I don't know what to do if it is possible to extend it here with my visa on it or travel down in april and have it extended over there. Kindly advice please as this is really bothering me. Thanks

If you are travelling this January, the best shot is to travel with your passport to US and do the renewal there. According to the information I know about F1 visa as at early 2011, you are a legal student in US as long as you maintain your student status (I - 20). With I - 20 form, you don't need a student visa to live in US. Even if your visa or passport expires while studying in US, you are legal provided you have your I - 20. However, should you want to leave US, you will need a visa in order to be able to enter after leaving.
I will implore you to get the latest information as regards this because information I'm giving is as at 2011. Good luck man!

Hello people,

I will be travelling to Nigerian embassy in Rome from Budapest for my e-passport. I would like to meet any Nigerian living in Rome who will be willing to show me around. I plan on seeing some tourist centres.
Also, is there any cheap hostel/hotel in Rome where I can stay for the night? My flight arrives at 9:25pm on Tuesday 18th December.

@Kennybuda, do you still live in Budapest? I live in the 7th District.

I am currently living in Budapest now as an erasmus student from Finland. From what I have seen so far in Hungary, I will not advise any Nigerian student to study in Hungry if you are hoping to work to pay tuition. There are no jobs for their citizens let alone for foreigners. However, if your parents are wealthy, it is also a good place to study. The country's economy is not doing good and their citizens are planning to leave the country.
Travel / Re: How To Get Visa To Finland For Entrance Exam?? Help/suggestions by callygood: 3:09pm On Apr 04, 2012
Yeah, the embassy will no grant you visa to write exam in Finland. The embassy believes if visa is issued to Nigerians for the entrance exam, the person will not return to Nigeria after the exam. Therefore, granting visa for entrance exam was cancelled.

Dear Sir / Madam,

Based on the common assessment criteria defined in the Common Consular Instructions, the consultations with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and with educational institutions in Finland the Embassy has decided NOT TO GIVE VISAS to attend the entrance examinations in Finland.

Many of the Finnish

educational institutions are arranging the entrance excaminations during the current year in various countries in Africa. You might be interested in taking this opportunity to write the examination. Kindly contact your school in Finland concerning this.

There are few questions to what you guys have been saying about what is happening in Hungary right now. I don't live in Hungary and no nothing about life there. Though, I am planning to go there. Therefore, I need to know few things about Hungary.

1. For what reason will a Nigerian betray his fellow countrymen?
2. Were your criminal act exposed by a Nigerian and you call that betrayal?

I have read about the criminal acts of Nigerian in Hungary. If you are exposed as a result of your criminal act, you need to wake up to reality. You are not betrayed.

I also live in Finland. Nigerian immigration started issuing the e-passport from 2008 if I can recall. Those who obtained theirs will be looking forward to renewing it. I got mine in 2008 and I want to renew because it will not be valid for one year anymore by the time my resident permit expires.
Whoever knows which embassy is easier to make renewer in northern Europe should post please.

Travel / Re: Study In Finland In September: Tuition Free! by callygood: 6:06am On Dec 02, 2011
@prospective applicants to Finnish UAS,

The best advice for you now is to forget about applying to the UAS who are under the FINNIPS. I called Kemi-Tornio admissions office yesterday and I was told that the FINNIPS are trying to give some other nationalities the chance to study in the UAS. The UAS has more Nigerian applicants. Therefore Nigerian applicants will not be invited to Ghana for the entrance exam. I believe this is just an excuse to remove Nigerian applicants from the programme. You should see the number of Chinese, Nepalese and Vietnamese students in my school. She categorically told me that there will be no issuance of visa for those who will be coming to Finland to write the exam.
My advice is that you look for universities that are not under FINNIPS who can write there exams online or else where rather than Finland.

The issue is this. Every school is currently updating their website regarding the next admission intake. Requirement varies depending on each schools. You just have to give it a little patience for others to come out with their requirement. I will try to find out about the schools that did their entrance exam at the embassy and british council.
Travel / Re: Study In Finland In September: Tuition Free! by callygood: 10:13am On Nov 11, 2011
@ All applicants,

I think there is still a possibility for the exams to be taken in Nigeria. This possibility is not a confirmed information. I was told by someone that some people did the entrance exam at the Finnish embassy in Abuja while some did theirs at British council this year. Now, it all depends on the school and course you have chosen.

@tunamania, by asking this question, it means you did not check the website of the embassy. you will see more information from there. Below is the list of acceptable insurance companies
AIICO INSURANCE PLC
MUTUAL BENEFITS ASSURANCE PLC

@overloved, i think you should write the embassy themselves. they will be in the best position to answer your question
Travel / Re: Invited To Entrance Exam In Ghana?: Lets Meet Here! by callygood: 3:31pm On May 31, 2011
you will only need to get insurance from insurance company that are acceptable by the embassy. the amount you will pay is 30k or more nigerian money depending on the insurance company.
visa fee is 50k
insurance at least 30k
DHL/UPS/Fedex, inquire from them
Bank statement: 1.2m in your personal account

there is still time. the processing doesn't take longer than 8weeks. most people get reply withing 4 to 5weeks depending on the time your submit your application.

Based on what @mafiaguy said, you should understand that every section of the question paper must be touched. I also heard an applicant has to score the minimum score required for every section of the questions before he/she can be admitted.

@capti, na me talk to you with overloved ID for yahoo IM some time ago.
