Hi Everyone,

It's been over 3years since myself and my spouse moved to Canada. It's been a life changing experience for us. This Nairaland forum was very helpful to us in our application process. While alot of things have changed since then I will like to encourage everyone else still in the process of moving over to Canada. It has been a life changing experience for us... we have achieved what we won't have achieved in 20years in Nigeria under 3years. Canada is a great place.

If any of you have questions feel free to reachout to me. I will respond as time permits.

Most Nigerians here are doing great. There's no reason to give up. In this society you write you life goals and watch them come to life... no spiritual warfare with village people. The society

Also, we have a fully furnished 2 bedroom airbnb/short term rental unit to help for anyone landing in Canada and doesn't have a place to stay or know anyone. PLEASE Note it's not for free - Located in London, Ontario - It's a cheaper city compared to Toronto and has a good number of Nigerians living there. It's only 1hr 45min from GTA. - ALSO this will be based on availability but will give preference to people moving from Nigeria here. As I know how uncertain and difficult it can be moving here initially.

Landed Canada few hours ago with my spouse. Toronto was our port of entry and we flew Ethiopian airlines. It was a very long flight. We departed from Abuja. Most of our bags where 24kg we had one extra 23kg GMG bag dedicated to food stuffs. All our bags went through without wahala. We specifically wrote food stuff on the bag and wrapped it at the airport. No one disturbed us for anything.

Toronto was cold -3. It was just 8am. The immigration officers were nice and we didn't take time to clear us. We got our SIN and proceeded to pick our bags. No questions about our funds or food stuffs.

I just got a message via LinkedIn for an IT HelpDesk position asking me if am interested or can recommend anyone. Please if you are in IT and have landed PM me.

Its important for us to update our LinkedIn profiles. A lot of recruiters and companies search LinkedIn for people to fill up their open positions.

TIPS: Complete your profile, include all your skill set and certifications. Very important: change your location to the area in Canada you live or plan to settle and also make your profile available to Canadian hires. Upgrade to LinkedIn premium, the first month is free and you can opt out anytime.

Cheers

Please how were you able to pay for the number. Did you use a credit card? because i tried paying with my GT naira debit card severally and it did not work.

It was the same card I used to pay for my WES.

Responses are welcome.

Wow...that's awesome....Please if i may ask, i have also been using freetone which worked well at first, only to later realize that it no longer rings but just shows missed calls. I have missed a lot of calls because of this. Did you experience such?

Yes I did. The app needs to be open always. At least within work hours in Canada. Just like your WhatsApp is always open and active.

Please could you shed more light on the steps you took? I'll like to get this in as much detail as possible. You used freetone for ur number. How about your address?

I just downloaded the app as advise here on this thread. Then purchased a number and unlimited calls to US/Canada.

Then for the address I used my uncle's home address since I would be residing there temporary when I arrive

Thanks to the person that introduced freetones here.

I purchased a number and opted for unlimited calls to and from US/Canada.

Just today i had my first phone interview with a Canadian employer. It was successful but unfortunately the job is starting too close to my landing date next week. Am suppose to meet with the manager and suppose to receiving some further training prior to the start date.

Another employer just contacted me for interview. Hopefully this one would click.

For all those hoping to get a job before leaving... its very possible. Package your resume... apply via indeed, job bank etc

Am landing Ontario next week. Any landed Nairalander with connect to IT jobs... please hook a brother up

CAstruggle plz help a sister I need guidelines

Look up conferences in Canada for this year. And try to book an attendance. Once successful, the organization body will issue you an invitation letter with which you can now process your visa application.

Please is the bank letter the same thing as the reference letter? If not, what is the content of the reference letter?

Thanks as you reply.

Bank letter is different from the regular reference letter. But any of them can be used along with presenting only TB as POF. Bank letter contains the bank details as required and specified by CIC on their website.

Once you get your COPR, you can apply for pre arrival services.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/before-services.asp

You dont need to receive COPR before applying for Pre arrival services. All you need is your PPR mail

No one should be separated from his or her spouse or family because of career, money or business. In the end what is the most important thing in life? I cannot stay without my wife for 3 to 6months. Long distance gives room for a lot of things. Most importantly the children need the fatherly or motherly care.

Not everyone, will tell you what they are going through not having their husbands with them abroad. I know a lot of men living in Nigeria with their wives abroad, they have bed warmers here in Nigeria, attending occasions and events with them and even living with them in the same house. It also possible there are some saints out there, it all depends on personality and choice.

hey guys, my wife only has a statement of result from her school NAU, Awka. she recently called the school to confirm if her certificate i ready and after the school official asked her the year she graduated(2009) her course of study, faculty and a bunch of other questions, the lady simply said,"are you sure the cerificate is even ready yet?" .This is the school's official who doesnt think that a BSC cert since 2009 is ready.anyway, that is a story for another day. I will just like to know if my wife can use her statement of result to work in Canada. We are due to arrive in April and i'm asking so i know whether to save the money it will cost to send my wife to Awka to personaaly hunt down the certificate.

All the seniors in the house...what's your experience with this issue? I look forward to your responses

Thanks

Bro, if you want your certificate simply apply. Your wife's certificate would never be ready. I finished from UNIZIK in 2014 and i collected my certificate earlier this year. It took me only a week to get mine, i had to pressure them. If you have someone in Awka the person can help you initiate the process while you travel to just pick it up.

Cheers
