If you look at the Nigerian Securities home page (http://www.nigeriansecurities.com/index.php) on the top right corner (the box labelled NSE Live with the scrolling listings), you will notice a price for DANGFLOUR - currently 7.87.  Someone had asked about this sometime ago on this thread.  Any one know what this price means since the shares have not been listed yet?

@ NBA

It is working fine, I figure UBA Stockbrokers will have an online facility soon, and since I don't have anyone in Naija who can follow up on things for me, I decided a relationship manager can at least assist if I have any issues related to my portfolio ( I was in Naija last February and went to UBA House @ Marina and met some of the NRN staff).  As with any other institution when dealing with Naija from outside the country, one just has to try and see  how it works out.  I must say though I am quite pleased, I had submitted the CSCS identification form to my relationship manager two or three weeks ago with instructions to debit my account for the N2,500 subscription fee, and just today I tried to log on to cscsnigerialtd.com and it has been activated, I have verified that all my orders have been executed at the prices indicated on my broker statements, and execution of orders has been timely.

This forum (NairaLand) has continued to be extremely informative and now it is even saving me money.  I had also been concerned about the hefty charges on my UBA account, but thanks to NBA's post I now realise I should be using my savings rather than current account (I have always used UBARemit to transfer to my current account rather than my savings).  The only thing I noticed with the savings is that interest is paid about every three months, so maybe charges will hit quarterly too.  How long have you been using UBARemit without any charges to your saving account?

Hi NBA,

When you say you transfer funds from your UBA savings to your broker, is it a UBA broker you mean or another broker with a UBA account? I have been using UBA NRN accounts since late last year, and just recently opened a trading account with UBA Stockbrokers. However my orders and other instructions go through my relationship manager rather than directly through the broker (have never even dealt with anyone from UBA Stockbrokers directly), and I am curious whether you have a direct relationship with a UBA Stockbrokers broker.

Very useful thread by the way, thanks.
Romance / Re: Why Do People Cheat In Relationships? by CBANJ(m): 8:26am On Sep 01, 2007
Because we were never designed to be monogamous, its an artificial human made "rule" which contradicts our true nature!!!  How many creatures in the animal kingdom stick to only one sexual partner for their entire existence.  Yeah yeah, I know we are not animals, but still some basic natural aminal instincts remain deep within us.

Obajana Cement to go public in December:

The Dangote group President, who traced his humble beginning from Kano to Lagos  said "since Nigeria has given so much to me and  I stand here before you  to vow that I will give back to Nigeria." He urged Nigerians to join him in the ownership of the company when Obajana finally goes public in December this year.

Politics / Re: Supreme Court Reinstates Dariye by CBANJ(m): 5:52am On Apr 28, 2007
At the time of impeachment, 14 of the 24 seats were vacant, therefore 8 out of the ten remaining members constitute over two thirds majority. Afterall, any decisions to be made during that period, whether to do with impeachment or anything else could only be made by a maximum of ten members, given the 14 vacant seats. But that is just my opinion as a lay person. The Supreme Court is supreme, and its judgement is final.

Career / Re: Should I Resign From My Bank Job? by CBANJ(m): 12:59am On Apr 10, 2007
Most workers are not in their dream job, but they have to pay the bills.  I would not advice you to leave until you find another job.  Also, try and stick it out a bit and get some experience in your current environment, it could be invaluable in the future in many ways, including contacts. After you have had a bit of experience, you can start looking for another job, this might be challenging considering your hours, but my advice is to step from your curret job to one more towards where you want to be, then step from that to another job that is even closer, and so forth, getting some experience from each.  But stepping all the way down first to start over is very risky.
Business / Re: What Profitable Business Can I Do In Nigeria With $10,000? by CBANJ(m): 12:45am On Apr 10, 2007
I could be wrong, but I think gmcln means because new land cannot be created, land that is unattractive today may one day become attractive, therefore always a good idea to buy one that is cheap today due to its "unattractiveness".
Properties / Re: How Large Is 'A Plot' Of Land? by CBANJ(m): 6:25am On Apr 08, 2007
If we consider a plot to be 50ft x 100ft, then 1 acre is a little over 8 plots (208.7ft x 208.7ft, or 43,560 square feet)
Business / Re: Top Performing Banks by CBANJ(m): 5:39am On Apr 01, 2007
As someone living outside Nigeria, my personal experience is that UBA has the best service geared towards non resident nigerians. Late last year I wanted to open an account in Nigeria, so I emailed most of the major banks for information including GT, First Bank, Oceanic Bank, and a few others (there was a lot of information online and forms available for download, but I wanted to see what the responce would be like as I would need to correspond with them by email). I got an immediate responce from only one bank - UBA. I then called their NRN (Non Resident Nigerian) dept and established contact with a specific employee, then went ahead to courier to them all the info they needed.

In no time I had an account opened at their Head Office in Marina, and was assigned a dedicated relationship manager. She sent me the info for UBADirect by email so I was able to get access to my accounts online and change the password. I asked them to hold my cheque book and debit card for me (they can courier the cheque book to you at your request), and early this year when I went to Nigeria on vacation, I went to the office to meet the staff and pick up my cheque book and debit card. Now I feel comfortable making transactions from outside, and can email my relationship manager directly for any of my banking needs, and the response is always immediate (they recently assisted me with the application to purchase UBA shares re the current UBA offer, and in fact I found out about the offer when my relationship manager emailed to let me know about it).

Also they have launched UBARemit (www.ubaremit.com), a service that allows me to remit money directly to my account in Nigeria from any computer with Internet access. Service is available to residents of US, Canada, and UK. The service fees are less than wire transfer fees and exchange rate is slightly better than Western Union. Only draw back is there are limits on how much one can send per transaction and per month. I can log on to UBAdirect (www.ubadirect.com) to confirm the transfer is in my account (takes about 4 days).

Till this day I have not received a responce from any of the other banks to my original e-mail inquiry about how to set up an account if living outside Nigeria. I know I could have called them up, but wanted to gauge how they monitor and respond to their customer service email addresses they provide on their websites.

I know in-branch experience in Nigeria may be very different, but I think UBA's NRN service is the best for those living outside.
Properties / Cost Of Land In Jos by CBANJ(m): 12:50pm On Mar 31, 2007
Does anyone know the current cost of land in Jos.  I am interested in the Rayfield area and Lamingo area.

Also, what is the exact process in Jos, how do you make sure you are dealing with the rightful owner and at what point do you hand over the cash.  How do you make sure the title is properly registered in your name
