Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Contract Job With Total (200k) Vs Masters In The Uk: Which Do U Prefer? by CChild(f): 6:21pm On Apr 07, 2009
@ Ops E
''A masters in UK will open doors for you in any oil prod./servicing company.Even without experience, special preference is given to UK Masters holders. For example, in Shell if you have MSc in Oil& Gas related courses from Robert Gordon Univ.you are already several points ahead of others even without any experience, reason, the SITP is being handled by RGU and course content is close to RGU Master's courses. It's assumed that you've been exposed to what is needed by the company.
These companies go for annual aggressive recruitments for oversea grads''

Guy/Lady, You need to get your facts straight. A Masters in RGU is treated as equivalent to the SITP programme. The SITP happens to be sponsored by the company and for every 1 foreign grad employed, there are at least 20 SITP taken so where did you get the notion that Shell gives preference to foreign grads? Dont confuse the poster.

@ Poster. I would STRONGLY advise you to take the job. Two years of work experience even as a contract staff DOES give you an edge over a Masters degree holder. I am one, so kindly take it from me. And yes, after paying at least 10K Quid for a decent masters programme, you would still need to go through the same test and interview process as the fresh grads recruited internally. No edge, no higher level. The only difference is that they spent their time in SITP @ Warri and you spent yours plus YOUR money wherever abroad.

But all this is a bit silly. Just realised that the first post was over a year ago. This guy has obviously made his choice already! Who resurrected this post from neverland?

Programming / Re: Web Applications Are Not The Way Out by CChild(f): 11:15am On Sep 25, 2007
IT people need to perfect the art of requirements gathering according to user specifications because whether you use web based applications or client/server or whatever and the end user is still not satisfied, all the grammar you're speaking wouldnt matter!!! The profession of IT is changing as a business enabler ie the business drives IT and not vice versa! Thats my two cents,

Career / Re: High Paying Job Or Postgraduate Degree In Medicine? by CChild(f): 7:24pm On May 16, 2007
Hi
I get the feeling that you're talking about YOURSELF. Anyways, the medical profession is not as rewarding as it used to be. You spend years in training only to graduate and find yourself working in a government hospital where if there's a power cut, candles are lit at night and patients die due to lack of simple basic health aids. If you're not so lucky, you work as a locum doctor in up to three hospitals in order to make ends meet!
My advice, go for it if it is your PASSION. If it's only for prestige, forget it. It's not worth it.

Business / Re: Need Marketing Tips Badly by CChild(f): 9:59pm On Jan 25, 2007
Henryphyol,
I must say that your approach is downright selfish. Please grow up!
Pdivine, I'm also a marketer at a bank and i'm not a rookie. What i can tell you is , learn from your colleagues who are currently outshining you. Work on your boldness and presentation skills. Most times, you have to sell yourself first before you sell your bank becuse in essence we are all twenty five fingers of the same hand. You have to give people a reason to leave their current bankers for you.
Think more about what you can offer your prospects and always take every opportunity you have to talk about your bank.
Last but not least, pray without ceasing. If you're like me(our family didnt bring money to Lagos), then you need God's favour and guidance.
It is well with you!

My people,
I cant say enough how much i appreciate you all. AdeCisco
AdeCisco, didnt join since because i only came to know about the site last month and i was still studying it.
Lalas, U've got a good head on your shoulders. However, i'm in a quagmire right now cos the two jobs are different but i've got essential skills in both. I love Marketing but i dont see my self learning anything new from my current job. I've been doing the same thing for almost two years now and i really need a fresh challenge. My colleagues are the only ones that make the job worthwhile. They are not like family, they ARE family and if i leave here, i dont know ifi'll get that same kind of work environment seeing that we spend most of our lifetime at work!
The One, thanks for your straight answer. I meant producing companies, but i really didnt think that they paid that much. No offence, but are you certain that those figures are for ENTRY LEVEL?
Nikynike, i have applied already and was invited for a test in a few weeks time. Thanks.

Holler back.
Career / Re: Oil Companies/Banks Starting Salaries (Nigeria) by CChild(f): 6:32pm On Jan 20, 2007
Thanks a lot Lalas, you get my drift for sure.

Actually the reason i was asking the question is that right now i work in a bank, a good one too but the job kinda sucks, u know marketing (more like begging!) and i'm getting weary.

I'm not entry level but my problem is i may have a chance to switch to oil and gas but the options are just for entry leve!!!

It feels a bit like demotion but i guess i wont feel so bad if the pay is almost the same or more than what i'm getting now,

You get my drift?

Hello people,
I am a regular viewer of this site and i am posting for the first time. I must say that i am quite impresssed to see that such a site even exists! More power to the elbows of the creators.
I have a few comments though, I've noticed that most times, when people ask for information especially regarding test or interview formats, the usual response that they get is something like " When did you apply"? "Can i still apply"? "where is the venue"? "I applied sometime ago but havent got a response"? e.t.c, I think it's not very helpful. The least we can do is to acknowledge the question in the first place and provide a helpful answer or apologise if we don't have any before proceeeding with our questions.
There, i guess i won't make many friends with an entree like this!!!

Ok, so my first question, many people would like Oil and Gas jobs (including me!!!!). Could anyone KINDLY tell us what their entry pay is like i.e. Shell, Mobil e.t.c and how it compares with banking jobs?
Thanks i anticipation of helpful answers,

Much love,
