For example, they might show the total time a team member allocates to each project, his or her contributions to meeting goals and how a small shift in focus might improve outcomes –in other words, how each person fits into and affects the project. Analytics save time by giving context to data, so it becomes easier to maximize productivity and prioritize tasks. Using analytics can help project managers handle complex projects and keep them on – schedule and on-budget. Using analytics, project management professionals have the ability to go beyond simply capturing data and checking tasks off as they’re completed. Now , they find out a multitude of information , including exactly how projects are performing and whether or not they are in line with the overall objectives .Analytics give project managers the ability to make strategic decisions and improve project success rate.

For organizations to take their basic project reporting from status reports based on siloed data to true project analytics, they must consolidate and organize data across all projects. Employers are now more concerned about human capital value added.

HR professionals are consistently required to measure human capital utilization factor and human capital value added, to justify the workforce role and contribution.

Sometimes, it’s good to ask ourselves a deep question “I’m I really adding value at work? If I am an employer of self, with my level of KSA (Knowledge, Skill and Ability), how much will I pay myself?”

It’s sad that the gap between school cert holders KSA and BSC holders just seized to exist. Companies are no longer looking for graduates but they are looking for people who can add a certain level of value to the organizations bottom-line.

If your role can be easily replaced then you are not safe, try to take a break, and analyse the “time to fill” of your present role, the shorter it is, the more unsafe you are.

Playing a routine based role at work i.e. a non-strategic role is a signal for what I call “role extinction” To remain safe at work you must be able to consistently justify your present Total rewards. What ROI is your presence generating for the organization?

Making management aware and gaining their buy-in to your initiatives or ideas require sales mastery. Selling is simply your ability to make people buy-in to what you believe in. In my few years of practicing human resources, project management and business development, I have come to a conclusion that the most important skills a manager need is selling.

HR professionals are continually faced with a strong need to sell their initiatives to senior management. Most times their dominant thought and concern centres on “this idea is the ‘idea’ we need, but how do I make senior management feel the same way about the idea”.

Project managers continually have to sell the benefit of their plan to relevant stakeholder, without stakeholders buy-in, it’s very likely the project will fail. In fact, without the ability to sell, nothing works. No matter how we run away from it , the importance of developing excellent selling skills is not always significant until when your department is about to be relegated.

Selling an initiative involves taking the following steps

Plan how to sell before trying to sell: Organizations always ask questions such as “what is in it for us”, the HR executive must be prepared for a value based presentation using analytics, this actually takes intensive preparation, justifying how it affects the bottom-line e.g. ROI
Understand the initiative and how its support your organizations strategic goal
Don’t argue when objections are raised, acknowledge concerns and justify with more analytics that addresses each concern.

To gain support of senior management about HR value contribution, HR leaders must learn how to sell. An HR initiative is worthless until you gain the support of senior management! You are a sales person, so go out there and sell initiative!
