Politics / Re: Third Term Agenda <Vote, Comments> by chanag: 7:43pm On Mar 18, 2006 |
The constitution is the national authoritative guideline for democracy. Any change in the constitution must be made to serve the interest of the nation and not to sustain power for anyone or group of people. It is unfortunate that all most all the frontline presidential aspirants are people Obasanjo have full knowledge of their past greedy and selfish political history, who the constitution should have barred in the first instance from contesting any political position in Nigeria. This include all the ex-military dictators who had embraced power at any level and whose leadership of the nation have kept Nigeria 5 decades behind the rest of developing nations like China, India, Singapore, Brazil etc. In my opinion, Obasanjo love Nigeria, but his politcal weakness is in his failure to groom a candidate he would be proactive in suporting to the highest office who should continue with his philosophy of eliminating corruption and oversee economic growth for the country. His fight against corrupton started very late. I would suggest that all the Nigerians that have ruled should step away from contesting any election in order that new breed politcal aspirants could contest on equal level playing field. If this is ignored, and bearing in mind that all the aspiring contestants contributed in the under-development in the country and institutionalisation of poverty while only a handfull of people live in unquantifiable affluent, I would support that Obasanjo should go for 3rd term. The greatest wickedness in Nigeria is that a few people who had unusal opportunity to lead the country, stole to massively enrich themselves with Nigeria's wealth. The wickedness appears to be perpetuated by the intention of the same people attempting to come back to continue from where they stopped in the looting of public fund by bulldozing their way back with the wealth they illegally acquired. If all the past leaders are excluded, then Obasanjo should go. In my opinion, this government's acheievment may not be visibly transforming policies into food on the table, but some foundation has been laid for that to happen if only subsequent governments would not just turn the table and continue on the part of patronage that end up benefitting very few frineds and cronies. People should feel free to agree or disagree with my opinion. |

My vote is NO to 3rd Term. OBJ has made a name for himself on the aspect of his effort in breaking the myth surrounding some minority of Nigerians that are described as "untouchable". He has helped to also remove the myth that telephone is for the poor, which over the years had impeded economic development in the country because of the myopic views of previous leaders. OBJ has bridged better relationship between Nigeria and the wider world communities. He was the only past dictator that voluntarily handed power in the past. I consider him as a man that love the progress of Nigeria and will not do anything to destroy it. He has to go as stipulated by the current constitution and even if the constitution is changed, he and the incumbents should not be the pioneers of the new constitution. In a country of over 130 million people, there are men and women of like-minds that would be happy to carry on with the fight against corruption. He should help in preparing all Nigerians for the best leadership qualities even for the President of Nigeria. On this I will urge him to advise his spokesman to watch his utterances, as politics is a matter of integrity and not a war zone. |
Politics / Re: The Gbenga Obasanjo Interview by chanag: 11:36am On Jan 15, 2006 |
I understand Gbenga is medical doctor. I consider him to be stupid to have delved into politics where he has little or no skills for political diplomacy. He said so much, some of which are in the interest of the public. He has unduly exploited his position as the son of the president to enter very dangerous territory that could give confusing ideas to the public. He has embarrassed the government, especially the President who it appears discuss national matters in family meetings. May be Gbenga has become the Minister of Communication. He appears to be a good guy but quite naive. Qualification is neither skills nor experience. |
Religion / Re: Pastor Adeboye Says Satan Planned 49 Plane Crashes by chanag: 11:14am On Jan 15, 2006 |
I like the phrase "religious imperialism" which has rendered Nigerians impotent in using their brain to critically analyse and different between spiritual interventions and what God in his infinite wisdom has given man the power to do for themselves. While Pastor Adeboye may resort to apply the usual ploy of accusing his critics of doubting God, I am happy to say that, he and his group should understand and direct his prophecy on the consequences of health and safety issues in relation to aviation industry. Plane crash or accidents as a whole don't just happen unless there are breaches in safety rules and regulations. In a country where profit is put before safety and comfort, and there is usually no serious implication for airline management, plane crash has potential to happen. Men of God should preach the word of God on the concept of human responsibilities in maintaining and servicing their equipment, updating their knowledge and skills, applying current research and evidence to their practice or activities, appropriate training of personnel and adapting to improved working condition for all the staff. If everything is in place, the devil will not have much room to manoeuvre God work wonders, but certainly the way it is advertised on TV screens by men and women of God. I would like to hear the Prophecies that inform Nigerians and Africa at large that black nations will manufacture aeroplanes, build cars, develop high technology communication materials so that we can start to work towards it. These are achievable, but we continue to limit ourselves by negative prophecies that unduly empower the devil and make many vulnerable people think that God will come down from his high heavenly throne to solve our individual and collective problems. I rest my case. |
