Politics / There Was A Country by chiboyD: 3:22pm On Oct 01, 2014 |
Seasons come and go,so does Kings and their reigns. One major certainty of life remains that,a 'coming', inevitably suggests a 'going'.Our minds and nomenclatural identities, are part of our possessions that can never be taken away from us,regardless of our carelessness or lack of sapience. The others are subject to how we guard and keep them. Albeit some parts of the world still practice ancestral leadership, that not withstanding,it remains subject to replacement.Kings arise, seeming infallible, but then are overrun by their own incredulity and oversight. The current world powers, were some centuries ago,not properly heard. From the world of Philosophy, Economics and so forth,it will be established that the Greek world was in global dominance, but are today, dutifully trying to find their feet. This instance, sure sends a message. "THERE WAS A COUNTRY",a book by veteran but departed writer, CHINUA ACHEBE,brought about a stir, based on its background. But the recognition it got, certifies its quality. This isn't an issue of Biafra now,but one thing is sure,THERE WAS A COUNTRY. This many will interpret in various manners but then, there was a country that operated on acceptable ethics and norms. This reflected in the way the people was governed, and in the demeanor of her leaders. The word 'orderliness',was not spelt but experienced, at least in a relative manner. That country that existed, had a constitution, that practically bound both the 'fortunate' and 'unfortunate' nationals.References were sincerely made to it.And it was evident, in the modus operandi,of the political office holders.Amidst the theoretical constitution, in that nation now exist cabals, who impugn her fellow compatriots, with abysmal impudence. Their lies, bravado,'tyranny' et all, knows no limit. The country I heard of,used to be the pride of her continent. At its roar, its neighbours gave way. When it sneezes, the rest caught cold.To my utmost dismay, that nation is being brought side by side, with neighbors that ought to tremble at its presence.Derogatory references are now being made to her. That country is now being manned like a conglomerate, by the 'fortunate few'.Handing over the batons to their offsprings and their likes. While rest of the nationals, moan like unpaid stewards.Yet,promises are being heaped. In that country that once existed, the younger generation had trust and belief in it,but now their dreams are just mere mirage. Leaders of that nation, had known and proven histories.Almost nothing about them was covert, except their undies. But leaders of that nation that took over, are with histories too much to be penned down. In the words of Martin Luther,"I SEE THE PROMISELAND",but I'm apprehensive as to whether the captains of our ship will take us there.I wish to wake up,to behold the nation,I heard of. |

NO MORE Coming and going, a bitter fact of life In a space of a flash The beautiful times are gone Farewell our beloved ones bid Leaving us in states so choiceless While they we still can see Promises and smiles saturate the atmosphere From them a departure-sense is sifted Close to us our roses to remain Time alone,to reveal the 'ugly' Like an unwanted tickling on the ear The words so despised flew in For a moment, brought all to a 'still' Eyes tightly closed Hoping to be in a dream A dream deserving no 'wake up' In the time not long gone Vivid in remembrance, are the beautiful times Moments adored and held for posterity Wherein a sight fills the inner site Cuddles to superced words In the shiny rectangular object Lies the loved and cherished Ebullient dancer now lying still Reality indeed greeted wishes Eyes wide open,a 'dive' into a trance No more shall the times be Moments thought never to end Never again shall the eyes meet For the time being, gloomy is the state Nevertheless, life's ship, sails on. |
Celebrities / Re: "I Am Nigeria's Sexiest Man"- Benson Okonkwo by chiboyD: 7:02pm On Sep 20, 2014 |
[quote author=justuwa4] CONTROVERSIAL and down-to-earth Nollywood actor, Benson Okonkwo has bagged another sexiest man award after winning the first runner-up prize of the Vanguard’s Sexiest in Nollywood 2013. The One Dollar star who is fondly called Mr Packaging by fans, took the Karis Award crown after beating fellow actors; Ken Erics, Muna Obiekwe and Walter Anga. The actor who spoke with Weekend Groove after clinching the crown said more awards will come his way. “Well, it’s not a new thing. I have always been sexy and I know it. I started modelling before acting. I started modelling at the age of 16. I have always been admired by the public and that’s what makes me stand out. The confidence I have today is from my being sexy and I have a lovely and beautiful mum that I look like, so I got the beauty from her. Even when I was in school, I have always won awards for being the sexiest. So this is something I am used to. I have also won a prize as Vanguard’s sexiest actor. And now Karis Media sexiest actor and more awards will come. Because to me, if I am to say it and I will say it again; I am Nigeria’s sexiest man”. The sexiest actor contest organised by Karis Media was a concept of Vanguard newspaper and it started in 2008 with Jim Iyke and Genevieve Nnaji winning in the male and female categories respectively.
