My dearest love I would never forget that Wednesday morning of February 24, 2016 when I departed for my training. If only I had listened to the words of you, Ij, my charming wife – “Darling, why not wait and eat before going”, perhaps I would have been writing a different piece now. The memories of that bashing I received from a fast retreating jeep driven by a mindless driver still resonates. The impact of the hit knocked me off the ground and I found myself unbelievably floating in air for some seconds before landing with a thud. Seconds later, I discovered I could not rise up. I felt huge excruciating pains when I tried to raise my left leg. The pains were so unbearable that I almost went into shock. I kept shouting my wife’s name, calling on angels and saints, asking for help. Luckily enough, nearby Samaritan bystanders gathered round to help me into a waiting vehicle which rushed me to a nearby pharmacy where I received painkiller injections and then a trado-physio centre about a mile away. At the trado-physio centre, the baba in charge organised four men to hold me tight and began to work on the affected leg. The pains I felt that day was indescribable. I shed tears like a baby, I thought I would pass out – that still remains a mystery I did not pass out eventually. I was wrapped up in bandages with sticks embedded in them to hold the leg. I asked the baba, “would I still be able to walk in future?” to which he replied “Yes”. I then asked “how long would it take?” and he replied “probably a month plus two weeks”. Baba told me I would have to keep an appointment with him every two days to go through massaging and changing of bandage, an operation I thought to myself as excruciating and dreadful. Almost two months later, I was still unable to walk despite the time and money spent with Baba, there was no noticeable significant improvement. I couldn’t even bend my knee. It was like I had been defrauded. I felt really disappointed that nothing had changed. I quickly passed this feeling to a distant friend, who referred me to a private specialist clinic in highbrow Lekki. Quickly, I booked an appointment the next day with the chief medical doctor who diagnosed me and arranged for an open reduction internal fixation surgery the following week. I had a successful surgery and thanks to God the rest has been history. Two months later and having been under crutches I am so grateful to God that I am now able to walk. It’s a huge relief seeing that I can now do things I could not do four months ago. It’s a miracle, and I cannot forget my wife and my Pearl who stood by me through thick and thin. Baby, I raise glass for you. During my sordid ordeal, there were times, I faced fears and doubts but your consoling words, prayers and support kept me going. Thanks a zillion times Baby, this is for you. As time ticks for you to go into labour, I pray it would be successful and less stressful for you. May all the angels and saints protect you and be with you as you bring forth God's gift into this world and keep you safe Love you till the moon and back! Your adonis 6 Likes |
