Romance / The Deeper Life Lady I Want To Marry Doesn't Want To Know My Place by chinedumc91: 4:52pm On Jan 23, 2021
My dear people in this great forum. I seriously need your advice.

I'm dating a deeper life lady, we have seen each other up to six times but four of our meetings were at eateries while the remaining two we met was her own house and I always go with gifts like shoes, sandals, slipper, clothes etc.

The issue now is that, I wanted her to at least know my place since we are both living in the same city. But she said no, that her parents wouldn't approve it even though, I told her to come along with her two sisters if possible. She insisted no is against her church.

In this last Xmas, she asked me to buy her Ankara materials, which I did but she was expecting me to either take her out and use the opportunity to bring the gifts I bought for her. But I used covid19 as an excuse. As I'm writing this now those gifts are still in my house.

Now, she urgently needs 50k to register her carry over courses and her parents said no money and she is crying everyday because Tuesday next week is the deadline.

She is begging me to either give her or borrow her the money. But I told her that there's limit of what I can do for her now since we have not yet married. In fact I told her it is against my church to be spending on her when we are yet to marry.

Note, we are getting married this year even though we have not started our church courtship.

What do you advice me to do.

Health / COVID-19 May Cost Africa 500,000 Additional HIV Deaths In 1 Year ― UNAIDS by chinedumc91: 10:33pm On Jul 06, 2020
THE Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS, UNAIDS, has raised the alarm that the disruptions in HIV treatment following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic could cause more than 500,000 additional HIV related deaths in sub-Saharan Africa in the next one year.

The organisation’s concern was raised in a new report launched on Monday in Geneva, Switzerland, which also noted that the global AIDS epidemic shows that the 2020 target to end the scourge would not be reached due to unequal progress.

While raising concerns global responses achieved could be drawn backwards by 10 years or more, Africa was highlighted to be at risk of heading back to the AIDS mortality level witnessed as far back as 2008.

The report which further stated that in 2019, no fewer than 690 000 people died of AIDS-related illnesses, even as 12.6 million of the 38 million people living with HIV were not accessing the life-saving treatment, predicted the next one year could be devastative, as the COVID-19 pandemic has seriously impacted negatively on the AIDS response and could disrupt even more.

The report reads in part: “A new report by UNAIDS shows remarkable, but highly unequal, progress, notably in expanding access to antiretroviral therapy. Because the achievements have not been shared equally within and between countries, the global HIV targets set for 2020 will not be reached.

“The report, seizing the moment, warns that even the gains made could be lost and progress further stalled if we fail to act. It highlights just how urgent it is for countries to double down and act with greater urgency to reach the millions still left behind.

“A six-month complete disruption in HIV treatment could cause more than 500 000 additional deaths in sub-Saharan Africa over the next year (2020–2021), bringing the region back to 2008 AIDS mortality levels. Even a 20 per cent disruption could cause an additional 110 000 deaths.

“Missed targets have resulted in 3.5 million more HIV infections and 820 000 more AIDS-related deaths since 2015 than if the world was on track to meet the 2020 targets. In addition, the response could be set back further, by 10 years or more, if the COVID-19 pandemic results in severe disruptions to HIV services.”

Executive Director of UNAIDS, Winnie Byanyima who listed stigma, discrimination and widespread inequalities as major barriers to ending AIDS, urged countries to listen to the evidence and step up to their human rights responsibilities

“Every day in the next decade decisive action is needed to get the world back on track to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030. Millions of lives have been saved, particularly the lives of women in Africa. The progress made by many needs to be shared by all communities in all countries.

“Fourteen countries have achieved the 90–90–90 HIV treatment targets (90 per cent of people living with HIV know their HIV status, of whom 90% are on antiretroviral treatment and of whom 90 per cent are virally suppressed), including Eswatini, which has one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in the world, at 27 per cent in 2019, and which has now surpassed the targets to achieve 95–95–95.”

Byanyima who said the implications of diverting or reducing money meant for HIV treatment and prevention into COVID-19 would be to the grave to contend with urged countries to increase investments in both diseases. In addition, a People’s Vaccine for COVID-19, which has been signed by more than 150 world leaders and experts, has demanded all vaccines, treatments and tests be patent-free, mass-produced anddistributed fairly and free for all.

“In 2019, funding for HIV fell by seven per cent from 2017 to US$ 18.6 billion. This setback means that funding is 30 per cent short of the US$ 26.2 billion needed to effectively respond to HIV in 2020.

“We cannot have poor countries at the back of the queue. It should not depend on the money in your pocket or the colour of your skin to be protected against these deadly viruses. We cannot take money from one disease to treat another. Both HIV and COVID-19 must be fully funded if we are to avoid massive loss of life.”

Politics / BREAKING: Police Take Over Ajimobi’s Residence by chinedumc91: 11:13am On Jun 28, 2020
Yinka Adeniran, Ibadan

Policemen attached to the Oyo State Command have taken over the Agodi GRA residence of deceased Ex-Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

The property, which was the preferred family choice to bury the late Governor, was not approved by the State Government due to ligitation over ownership.

When The Nation visited the place, two police vehicles, a Hilux patrol van of the State Anticrime outfit, Operation Burst and a white Kia Rio used for State Security patrol were parked beside the building with stern- looking security operatives.

Sources hinted that sending security operatives to man the property may not be unconnected with the controversy trailing the land as the preferred choice of the family to bury the deceased Governor.

The sources added the security could be there to prevent any possible disobedience or likely forceful entry into the property by the family or close associates of the former Governor.

Efforts to reach the Police Command’s Spokesperson, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, a Superintendent of Police, proved abortive.

Calls and text message sent to his phone were yet to be returned as at the time of filling this report.

Business / Transport Owners Call For Lifting Of Inter-state Travel by chinedumc91: 5:09am On Jun 26, 2020
TRANSPORT owners under the aegies of Public Transport Owners of Nigeria Association have appealed to the Federal Government to lift the ban on their operation.

The bus owners comprising luxury coaches and mini buses bemoaned the financial losses so far suffered by their members since the ban came into effect as part of the measures preventing the spread of COVID-19, put their losses in the region of N200 billion. The bus owners recalled that for almost four months, their vehicles have been parked which is dangerous to the state of the vehicles. They, therefore, called on the government to intervene with a special fund to save their already battered businesses, even as they drew attention to the debilitating concomitants of the ban on the travelling public and the economy generally.

The transporters made the appeal in Lagos explaining thatroad transport accounts for 90 percent of movements in the country, and deserves priority consideration in the prevailing situation. According to the National President of PTONA, Isaac Uhunmwagho, the transporters are saddled with heavy burdens and need incentives to enable them revive their businesses after the ban. They had earlier forwarded a request for a bailout in form of a N20 billion intervention fund through the office of Vice President and Chairman of the Presidential Economic Sustainability Committee on COVID-19 pandemic, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, in April.

The association, however, warned that the adverse effects of the ban on inter-city travels are so dire that many of the transport firms and businesses stifled by the consequences “are bound to go bankrupt”, if the prohibition is reversed without bailout. According to PTONA President “COVID-19 will not be gone in the next six months. We need to learn how to live alongside COVID-19, and apply all necessary measures. The longer the ban on inter-state travelling lasts, the much more will be the number of small and big businesses that will die permanently. The earlier the ban is lifted, the sooner some businesses will be able to recover.”

The transporters stated that aside the billions of naira in losses inflicted so far, there would still be heavy challenges even after lifting the ban, because operators will need to first restore to sound motoring condition the buses grounded for months, reduce the number of passengers admitted on board when they re-start, as well as spend money on sanitation and health facilities.

They, however, warned of imminent increase in fare given the fact that the vehicles would only take 50% of its built capacity to create physical distance inside, the buses. “If a vehicle takes 50 percent of passengers, simple arithmetic will dictate that the transport fare will have to double. The airlines have already come up with a similar answer. The question is: Can the Nigerians, whose average level of income has been adversely hit by the effects of COVID-19 be able to pay significantly increased transport fares…?

Politics / Ize-Iyamu Asks Obaseki To Return To APC by chinedumc91: 6:30pm On Jun 22, 2020
Osagie Ize-Iyamu, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo, has asked Godwin Obaseki, governor of the state, to return to the APC.

Obaseki had defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after he was disqualified from seeking the APC ticket for the September election.

Ize-Iyamu, who was candidate of the PDP in the 2016 governorship election, crossed over to the APC in the heat of the misunderstanding between Obaseki and Adams Oshiomhole, suspended national chairman of the APC.

Oshiomhole is believed to be backing Ize-Iyamu.

After being declared winner of the APC governorship primary on Monday, Ize-Iyamu said he is willing to work with Obaseki if he would return to the party he “originally belong” to.

“By this process we just competed, the party is now on its step to full recovery. I also salute Governor Obaseki, and I will appeal to him to return to the party,” he said.

“In every party we have disagreement but I don’t want it that it is this disagreement that would push him out. I once made that mistake. It might be nice for him to come back, and certainly I’m going to work with with him.

“We’ve shown the example today in APC as we are determined to be law abiding. The few months we have for campaign, let’s do it in a law abiding manner. I’m pledgeing on behalf of my party that we will be peacul and respectful.

“I’m naturally happy and humbled by the overwhelming support from the 18 local government areas. I’m so related that there was no incident of violence as this has been my prayer point. The election went on with strict adherence to the state’s government COVID-19 regulations.”

Ize-Iyamu said if he wins the September governorship election, he will be working with everyone to move the state forward.

He also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, Oshiomhole and the security agencies for their support in the primary election.

Politics / Ondo 2020: Unity Forum, Groups Give Oke N22.5m by chinedumc91: 12:54pm On Jun 21, 2020
By Osagie Otabor, Akure

Members of the Unity Forum of the Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC) and 28 support groups have given Chief Olusola Oke N22.5m to enable him purchase nomination and expression of interest forms of the APC.

Oke was last month named consensus aspirant of the Unity Forum but other nine aspirants refused to step down from the race.

Presenting the cheque to Oke at Akure, Ondo State capital, former Deputy Governor and leader of the Unity Forum, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, said they decided to make direct financial contribution to the electioneering expenses of their flag bearer to promote a sense of belonging by all party members.

Olanusi noted that the contribution would remove the toga of winner takes all from the Governor when elected.

He said the display of political maturity and decorum by Oke was an assurance that Ondo State would break away from despondency and nepotism when he becomes governor.

The former Deputy Governor called on all members of the Unity Forum to brace up for the direct primary mode of election on July 20, 2020.

He urged the APC national leadership to organise a credible and transparent primary so that the most popular candidate emerged.

Oke, who thanked the forum for the support fund, said Ondo needed a new leadership to give the people hope.

Oke stated that the people were hungry and angry with the Akeredolu’s administration.

He said the party’s experience at the 2019 general elections where it lost two senatorial seats and five House of Representatives seats showed that something urgent needed to be done to change the present leadership.

Politics / APC: Why We Can’t Convene Emergency NEC Meeting – Eta by chinedumc91: 9:48am On Jun 21, 2020
The Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hilliard Eta, has insisted that inasmuch as the ruling party would have loved to convene an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to resolve the myriad of crises rocking the party, the violation of COVID-19 pandemic protocols prohibiting public gathering has made it impossible.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the APC National Vice Chairman (South-South) also dismissed claims by former Deputy National Secretary Victor Giadom that he was given a waiver to contest in the 2019 Rivers State governorship election, insisting that Giadom was no longer a member of the National Working Committee (NWC), having resigned.

Responding to the clamour from party members to convene an NEC meeting, Eta replied: ‘It is at the root of all of the controversies; if there must be a permanent resolution to the mirage of controversies, then we must hold an NEC meeting. The NEC meeting is a statutory requirement of our constitution.

‘I do not believe that there is anybody afraid or scared of convening an NEC meeting. I think what has been militating against constituting an NEC meeting in the recent past is, of course, the COVID-19 pandemic that has stopped everybody from gathering more than a certain number of persons.

‘As you are all aware, we have over 120 members of NEC and it would amount to breaking the COVID-19 protocol as established by the Nigeria authorities prohibiting gathering of more than 50 people at a time. It will take our breaking that protocol for us to have an NEC meeting. But if it is possible to have a waiver so to speak to be able to have an NEC meeting, we can explore that.

‘There is nobody afraid of having NEC meeting. For those who want to build this party, who want this party to outlast this present government, they are such in number that there is no fear of convening NEC meeting. The only thing militating against convening it is, of course, the current world pandemic. There is no way the ruling party will voluntarily disobey or break rules it is part of making,’ he defended.

While taunting Giadom to head to court to reclaim his membership of the NWC, Eta said: ‘There is no way you can contest any election as a member or an executive officer of the APC without resigning your office. That is the constitution of our party. You can do that and return, but the NWC will transmit a letter to your zone, noting that in view of this vacancy predicated upon this, can you present someone to occupy an office that has been zoned to your own geopolitical zone.

‘I am the head of that zone, I have not heard any such letter till today from the NEC and I have not acted because there was no such communication. I have not been able to act because I cannot act on my own.

‘But in the wisdom of the NWC, which I am just the acting chairman, we had 15 members out of 20 in attendance that unanimously agreed that because Giadom had resigned to contest as Deputy Governorship, it is on record, we transmitted his name to INEC, he printed posters and he could not have done so, we could not have transmitted his name, he could not have campaigned for the position without first resigning his office.

‘The constitution of our party is not a voluminous book, it is just a few pages and it was stated that Victor Giadom, based on his resignation, has ceased to be a member of NWC. You can now find out whether anyone can be given a waiver from resignation.

‘We don’t even have it in our constitution anymore; we have deleted that part for political expediency. But we have it in our guidelines that if you are going to contest this kind of election that you must be a member of the party for a certain period of time.

‘That is the only place that you need a waiver, you cannot take a waiver for resignation. I am saying that if it was done, it was done in errors. It is a human organisation, susceptible to error. But it cannot vitiate the positions and the provisions of our constitution. I was not the national chairman until recently and if as acting national chairman I have discovered that errors were made I have to correct them.

‘If Giadom feels very bad or very strongly about what the resolution of the NWC, of course, like he is always doing, like his like are always doing, he can proceed to court, but that is the resolution of the NWC,’ he taunted.

Politics / Obaseki’s Exit From APC, A Big Relief, Surest Route To Party’s Victory – Ize-iya by chinedumc91: 6:30am On Jun 21, 2020
BENIN – Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, one of the front runners of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants for the party’s June 22 (tomorrow) direct primaries has described the exit of Governor Godwin Obaseki from the party as a big relief to the leaders and supporters of the party, and has created the surest route to its victory.

According to him, Obaseki had been trying to deflect from his failures by mischaracterising the situation, “but, we will force him to run on his records.”

Ize-Iyamu, who made the assertion while speaking to Sunday Independent in Benin on Saturday, said the governor was making people to believe that he exited the party with his political office holders, including local government chairmen, thinking that it would impact negatively on the APC in the election which, he said was very far from the truth.

“Interestingly, only a handful of people are exiting the party with the governor. The majority of party members and leaders in Edo State are happy to see his back because he has been a major barrier to achieving peace and unity.

“He was going about suspending people, even local council officials, for not supporting him or adopting his combative stance. All of these people are excited he is out, and his voluntary exit has given room for talks and fence-mending in a conducive atmosphere.

“Therefore, I do not think it is going to have any negative impact at all. On the contrary, it has helped the party to sharpen its focus, put its house together, and rally loyal and committed members ahead of the election.

“Let me make it clear that the disqualification of Governor Godwin Obaseki had nothing to do with my entrance or aspiration to represent the party in the election.

“He was disqualified because the Screening Committee of the APC, led by Professor Jonathan Ayuba, could not reconcile the inconsistencies in his academic credentials.

“Even, he did not appear able to. We were all witnesses to how a similar situation cost the party dearly in Bayelsa State, and as they say, once bitten, twice shy.
Loading...

“The leadership of the party learnt from the situation and insisted on a painstaking, objective screening of aspirants without any form of bias or prejudice.

“We reasonably were not willing to take risks, not the least because of a man who was neck-deep in anti-party activities, unpopular in the state, and nearly jeopardized the status of the party with his incompetence and intolerance.

“I had, and still have, no problems going up against Godwin Obaseki.

“On the contrary, he has been the one running away from a fair contest. Everyone saw what happened in December 2019 when the Edo state chapter of the APC organised a rally to welcome me back ceremoniously.

“You saw how Governor Obaseki abused the powers of his office, passed emergency laws banning rallies and other legal gatherings, and deployed both security agents and thugs to deny our members and followers access to the event. He tried to block my return because he was afraid of me and my followers”.

On the primaries, Ize- Iyamu said: “I am relaxed and confident. My campaign organisation has worked hard to engage and convince party members across the entire state to support my bid to represent the party in the governorship election in September and we have made tremendous progress.

“Fortunately for us, we have a lot of party leaders and members across the 192 wards who have not only endorsed my candidacy, but have also contributed to our effort through various means because they believe in me and know I can deliver on what I say.

“That has instilled a good level of confidence as we approach the election. I am in high spirits and hopeful of a victorious outcome.”

On whether he envisaged any stiff opposition, having emerged as the party’s consensus candidate before now, he declared, “Screening Committee gave the nod to three aspirants, Dr. Pius Odubu, Mr. Osaro Obazee, and myself, to contest in the primary election.

Naturally, because only one candidate can emerge at the end of the day, we are all making our case to members of the party, though we share the same goal of ensuring that our party, the APC, wins in September election.

“Luckily, Mr. Osaro Obazee has stepped down and declared support for me ahead of the primary election. I am grateful to him because his endorsement, added to the many others we have received recently, are great boosts and will definitely make a difference.

“Ultimately, challenge or not, right now in the APC, we are united and focused, and I am hopeful that this will not change irrespective of the outcome on June 22. We will continue collaborations and collective actions premised on mutual respect and complete devotion to the will of the people through party supremacy.”
