Religion / Christians Should Apologize To Gays - Pope Francis Says by chysweet(f): 9:19am On Jun 27, 2016
Despite the bible condemning Homosexuality in Leviticus 18:22, 'You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.'(NIV version), the leader of the Roman Catholic church Pope Francis has made some controversial statements saying that the Roman catholic church should apologize to gays for offending them.

While on a press conference aboard the Papal Plane on his way from Armenia, Pope Francis responded to a question from a journalist about a German Cardinal who said the Catholic Church should apologize for being "very negative" about gays.
The Pope was also asked, by the same journalist, whether Christians bear some blame for hatred toward the LGBT community, as horrifically demonstrated in the Orlando massacre at a gay night club that killed 49 people on June 12.

"I repeat what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says: that they must not be discriminated against, that they must be respected and accompanied pastorally,"

"The Church must ask forgiveness for not behaving many times -- when I say the Church, I mean Christians! The Church is holy, we are sinners!"

"I believe that the church not only should apologize to the person who is gay whom it has offended," he added, "but has to apologize to the poor, to exploited women, to children exploited for labor; it has to ask forgiveness for having blessed many weapons."

"One can condemn, but not for theological reasons, but for reasons of political behavior...Certain manifestations are a bit too offensive for others, no?
"But these are things that have nothing to do with the problem. The problem is a person that has a condition, that has good will and who seeks God, who are we to judge? And we must accompany them well."

He told reporters on the plane "there are traditions in some countries, some cultures, that have a different mentality about this question (homosexuals)" and there are "some (gay) demonstrations that are too offensive for some".

The pope did not elaborate on what he meant by seeking forgiveness for the Church "having blessed so many weapons", but it appeared to be a reference to some Churchmen who actively backed wars in the past.

Politics / IPOB Seeks Britain Support For Biafra Exit From Nigeria by chysweet(f): 5:49pm On Jun 26, 2016
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB Sunday urged the British Government to help Nigeria organize Biafra exit from Nigeria as a mark of exemplary leadership, akin to the recently organized British exit from the European Union.

IPOB in a statement titled “There must be “BIAFREXIT” in line with the just concluded BREXIT” signed by its spokespersons Dr. Clifford Chukwuemeka Iroanya Barrister Emma Nmezu, while congratulating the British Government for respecting the wishes of her citizens but noted that it will amount to hypocrisy if David Cameron that initiated the British exit will be fraternizing with the Nigerian Government in the alleged murderous activities against Biafra agitators.

“Britain as the closest ally of the Nigerian Government as a mark of exemplary leadership, must guide President Muhammadu Buhari and his colleagues to organize a BIAFREXIT akin to the recently organized BREXIT.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, congratulate the Government and people of Britain for organizing the BREXIT vote and applaud the British Government for respecting the wishes of her citizens.

Religion / Husband Of 73 Year Old Woman Killed In Kano Meets With Governor Okorocha (photos by chysweet(f): 5:21pm On Jun 26, 2016
Pastor Mike Agbahiwe, an indigene of Orodo in Mbaitoli Local Government of Imo State whose wife was killed in Kano by Muslim Fanatics has, for the first time since the incident happened, come back to his home state. He met with Governor Rochas Okorocha at the Government House in Owerri yesterday with his relations and explained that contrary to the widely read report that his wife, Mrs. Bridget Agbahiwe was beheaded, she was beaten to death, not beheaded.

He told the governor details of what transpired and how the wife was heartlessly and gruesomely murdered in his presence by the Muslim Fanatics and he survived the attack by the grace of God, otherwise, he would have also been killed because the aim of their attackers was to kill him and the wife.

His story below...

"One Muslim man called Dauda came to my wife’s shop and was washing his leg infront of the shop. My wife told the man to move up a little so that she could arrange her goods, but the man refused. Instead, the man started to molest her, and gripped her neck. In trying to free herself from the grip, Dauda started shouting Alakuba, and angry mob quickly gathered

"When we saw that danger was about to occur, we ran and took refuge in the house of a prominent Alhaji, who is a leader in the area. The Alhaji did all he could to calm the mob down. They refused and called him an infidel, and broke into his house and killed my wife in front of me. And if not the quick intervention of the Police who immediately used teargas to disperse them, they would have also killed me. But they destroyed everything I had both the shop, the car and so on."

He further stated, "The head of my wife was never beheaded. But the hitting was on her head and with hard objects. The body of my wife is in the mortuary with the head. She was not beheaded as it was widely reported."

In his response to the pathetic story of Pastor Agbahiwe, Governor Okorocha described Late Mrs. Bridget Agbahiwe as a heroine because it took more than one hundred men and women to bring her down, describing the gruesome murder of the woman as highly provocative, barbaric and the highest wickedness of mankind, and told Pastor Agbahiwe that the Imo State government would share with him and the family in this moment of grief and pains.

Governor Okorocha said, "The problem is not the death of Mrs. Agbahiwe but the manner of which she was killed. In this country, we must learn to live peacefully. No religion supports killing. Anyone who kills in the name of religion is an evil worshipper, and should never mention the name of God. The cold blooded murder of Mrs. Agbahiwe should be seen as a sacrifice for the unity of the country".

The governor further stressed, "She died as a martyr. Imo State Government will be with the family in this period of grief, and we shall set up a committee to assist in making sure that she is given a befitting burial. She died a heroine as far as we are concerned, as it took more than one hundred attackers to kill her. Those who killed the woman are cowards. The chairman of the traditional rulers’ council in the state would lead a delegation to the Emir of Kano to make sure that such ugly incident will never reoccur anywhere in the country."

Governor Okorocha also stated, "We are monitoring the situation and the reports reaching me is that five people have been arrested and taken to court, and finally remanded in custody in connection with the murder of Mrs. Bridget Agbahiwe. This is good enough. It means the Kano State Government and the Police Command in Kano are working to live upto their assurances to me that they would fish out the killers and make them face the full wrath of the law."

The governor urged Pastor Agbahiwe not to question God over the killing of the wife, but to bear the whole incident with fortitude.

Young people should monitor monetary allocations to ministries and demand judicious use of same.” It will be recalled that the total budget for 2014 was merely N4.69 trillion. However, she did not clarify if the N3.3 trillion was stolen in a single year or through out Jonathan’s 6-year tenure.

Politics / Northern Youths Ask Buhari To Crush Pro-biafra Agitators by chysweet(f): 7:41pm On Dec 05, 2015
Northern youths under the aegis of Arewa Youth Forum, AYF, have warned those behind the criminal agitation for Biafra to desist from it and allow Nigeria to remain in peace .

In a statement issued by its National President, Alhaji Gambo Gujungu, the AYF said it was highly disappointed by the heinous move by some selfish elements to cause avoidable crisis in the country.

While calling on the pro-Biafra youths under the aegis of Indigenous People Of Biafra and Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, to retrace their steps forthwith, the forum called on the Federal Government to take immediate steps to quell any move by any group or individual to dismember Nigeria under any guise.

Gujungu advised the government of the day not to remain complacent to the threat posed by the pro-Biafra agitators, recalling that it was complacency on the part of the previous administration that allowed Boko Haram insurgency to fester when it should have been crushed immediately it started, as provided under the law.

AYF said: “We are worried by the situation in the South East of the country where some youths have taken to the street protesting perceived marginalisation of their zone and demanding a state of Biafra.

“As the umbrella body of all northern youths we want to condemn the development in its entirety, as we do know that it is being carried out in bad faith.

“We want to reiterate that we are apostles of one indivisible Nigeria and will continue to work across the length and breadth of the country to engender peace, unity and progress for all Nigerians irrespective of tribe, religion and region.

“It is because of this that we are calling on all Nigerians to remain anywhere they are in the country. We specifically call on our brothers and sisters from the south east to remain anywhere they are in the north as they will be adequately protected and we will make sure that nothing happens to them.

“We also want to call on the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal government to act immediately and stop any move that will lead to the breakdown of law and order under control before it escalate.

“This is because it is still fresh in the mind of many Nigerians that it is the inability of the government then to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency and nip it in the bud that has caused the situation to deteriorate to this level”, the northern youths said.

Politics / BIAFRA: Ojukwu’s Spirit Behind Renewed Biafran Protests -APGA by chysweet(f): 11:54am On Nov 27, 2015
A member of All Progressives Grand Alliance, Chief Chris Uche, yesterday said that the renewed pro-Biafra agitation was awakened by the spirit of the late Leader of the defunct Republic of Biafra, Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu.

Uche, who made this revelation at the third memorial anniversary of Ojukwu, said Biafra would be declared a sovereign state without the shedding of blood, adding that those who lost their lives in the cause of Biafran struggle would never be forgotten.

According to Uche, the time for the realisation of Biafra was closer than ever.

He said, “Ojukwu gave us a template. He is still alive in our minds. Chief Uwazuruike’s yearly remembrance ceremony in his honour is bringing the time closer for the realisation of Biafra. We shall keep the flag flying and we shall achieve it without shooting of gun.”

Also speaking at the event, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, leader of MASSOB said the essence of the anniversary of Ojukwu was to reawaken the consciousness of Biafra among the Igbo people.

Uwazuruike further called for the unconditional release of Radio Biafra Director, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.

He however expressed regrets over the fact that the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, which recently emerged, was using threats of violence to achieve its aim.

“IPOB believes that since MASSOB has not achieved Biafra through non-violent methods for 16 years, they will achieve it through violence. They threatened fire and castigated some Igbo leaders,” Uwazuruike said.

Religion / South Africa Says It May Jail Pastor Chris Oyakhilome by chysweet(f): 1:27pm On Nov 26, 2015
The South African government has threatened to sentence the founder of Christ Embassy; Pastor Chris Oyakhilome to jail if his church fails to release its financial records, News24 reports.

The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities said it is investigating the commercialization of religion and abuse of people’s beliefs and had summoned several churches to appear before it with their ordination certificate, registration certificate, bank statements, and annual financial statements from 2012.

The Commission noted that several religious leaders in the country could be sent to jail if they fail to comply with its directive.

Head of the commission, Thoko Mkhwanazi-Xaluva said the decision to toll the legal line was because some of the church leaders had failed to comply with the directive.

“Some of these religious leaders will face prison if they do not comply and we have been clear about our course of action,”

“Some religious leaders have also threatened the commission, which is leading us towards the legal route,” Mkhwanazi-Xaluva said.

According to the report, Mkhwanazi-Xaluva said Oyakhilome, had indicated interest in taking legal action so as to stop the commission from forcing it to open its books.

Christ Embassy had earlier sought an extension of time to enable it review its financial records.

Mkhwanazi-Xaluva noted that the commission was also considering filing charges of intimidation against religious leaders who had publicly threatened the commission.

Wondering why some pastors would take money from their followers, yet refuse to provide their financial records, she said, “These people take money from people.”

“What are they doing with that money? We want to know. We will not back down.

“‎If Oyakhilome intends on that route, we are ready‎. He will have ‎to face the same fate as the others who refuse to hand over their financial records.”

Politics / BIAFRA: APC Chieftain Suggests Ways To End Protests by chysweet(f): 1:08pm On Nov 26, 2015
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rev Simeon Nwaulu, has advised the federal government that adherence to the principles of federal character can go along way to end the Biafra agitation.

Nwaulu, who is the National Coordinator of Rochas Fan Club, proffered the solution on Wednesday, at a press conference in Owerri, Imo state.

Nwaulu also noted that marginalisation has become one of the burning issues in the country that needs to be addressed for peace to reign.

Therefore, he stressed that a revisit of the federal character will be a panacea for the agitation of Biafra.

He said: “There is no doubt that of all the six geo-political zones of Nigeria, the Southeast is the most marginalised in everything.”

The APC chieftain, noted that the former vice president, Dr Alex Ekwueme, and few others spearheaded the formation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 1998, “but shockingly, he was denied the presidential ticket of the party in 1999, because he was from the South-East zone. Owelle Rochas Okorocha was denied twice the presidential ticket in 2003 and 2007 because he was from the South East.

“The resurgence of pro- Biafra agitators is due to the marginalisation of the people of South-East and the Federal Government has to urgently address this anomaly if there is to be progress in the country,” Nwaulu opined.

Religion / Boko Haram Ideology Fuelled By Wrong Islamic Teaching -army Chief S by chysweet(f): 12:05pm On Nov 26, 2015
Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, on Wednesday blamed the Boko Haram insurgency on wrong teaching and interpretation of Islam.

Burutai who was represented by the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Abubakar Yushau, made the statement while declaring open a two-day seminar organised by the Directorate of Islamic Affairs of the Nigerian Army, which was organized to enlighten people on terrorism and misinterpretation of Islam.

He said, “Muslims are faced with ignorance and wrong interpretation of Islam,”

“We have to sensitize the public to embrace the true teachings of Islam, as propagated by the Prophet Muhammad, SAW, as anything outside that does not represent Islam,” he said.

“miscreants and criminals terrorizing people in the northeast under the guise of Islam have gone out of the real teaching and interpretation of Islam as taught by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his disciples…Such teachings have misled people into wrong acts including terrorism in Nigeria.”

Politics / BIAFRA: S'east Traders Disown Nnamdi Kanu, MASSOB,IPOB by chysweet(f): 11:36am On Nov 25, 2015
South-East traders under the auspices of ‘South East Markets Amalgamated Traders Association, on Tuesday, disowned the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu and his pro-Biafran members.

The traders in a statement signed by their President and the Secretary, Okwudili Ezenwankwo and Temple Udeh in Awka yesterday, said that they had nothing to do with the Movement for the Actualisation of Biafra and the Indigenous People of Biafra, headed by Kanu.

The statement read, “We are constrained to react to the continuous calls for close of businesses in the zone in protest and solidarity for Biafra.

“Traders in the South-East wish to dissociate ourselves from MASSOB and IPOB. We have nothing to do whatsoever with these lawless groups.

“The difficulties and hardship, which traders and residents in general suffer during these protests, had made the traders to react to the situation and the development and make its position very clear and unambiguous.

“The invasion of markets and other business outfits and the destruction of property of individuals like shops and vehicles in the name of pro-Biafra protest is not only condemnable but unacceptable.

“We are yet to understand the wisdom in the protest where the properties and other valuables and belongings of the Igbo are either vandalised or destroyed by fellow Igbo in the name of Pro-Biafra protest.

“The hardship, which the Igbo that relocated from the North-East in the wake of Boko Haram insurgency are passing through, is still staring every right thinking Igbo man in the face, yet the Pro-Biafra groups are calling other Igbo doing their businesses in other parts of Nigeria to relocate to the South-East. This doesn’t make any sense.

“No particular zone in this country is an island and none can successfully develop without inter-relationship with the others.

.“Times are hard and the traders condemn, in strong terms, any action, by any group or individual, that will further aggravate the already very difficult times experienced by traders in this area.

“The traders are totally not in support of any protest that will further adversely affect the people of the South-East.

“We want to state clearly that traders in the South East are solidly in support of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

The statement stressed that “traders in the zone shall not support any action that will aggravate the hardship already being experienced by Nigerians”.

They appealed to the President to address the issue of dilapidated federal infrastructure in the South East, particularly the federal roads in the zone, which they described as death traps.

They listed the bad roads in the zone to include the Enugu Onitsha Expressway, Enugu¬Abakaliki Expressway, Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, Aba-Owerri Road and Owerri-Port Harcourt Road.

Politics / Kogi Guber: AGF, INEC Chairman Should Resign Now - PDP by chysweet(f): 11:39pm On Nov 24, 2015
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday, demanded immediate resignation of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Malam Abubakar Malami and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, over their stands on the issues bodering the inconclusive Kogi guber election.

Chief Olisa Metuh, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, who stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while speaking with newsmen, also rejected INEC’s call on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to replace its governorship candidate for the Kogi poll.

He said that the AGF should vacate his office for “hurrying and misleading” INEC into arriving at an “unconstitutional decision” to allow the APC substitute its candidate in the inconclusive Kogi election.

Metuh said that PDP was ‘shocked’ that INEC could allow itself to succumb to the antics of unlawful directive of the AGF to substitute a candidate in the middle of the ballot process.

He said: “We are all aware of the two legal documents guiding INEC in the conduct of elections; the Constitution and the Electoral Act have provisions for electoral exigencies.

“The legal documents also empower the electoral body to fully take responsibility for any of its actions or inaction without undue interference from any quarters whatsoever.

“We are therefore at a loss as to which sections of these two relevant laws INEC and the AGF relied on in arriving at their bizarre decision.

“Bizarre decision to substitute a dead candidate in an on-going election even after the timelines for such has lapsed under all the rules.”

Metuh said that the PDP was taken aback why INEC, a statutory body with full complements of technical hands in its legal department would wait for directives of external party on the matter.

“Consequently, the PDP rejected in its entirety, the move to circumvent the laws and ambush the yet-to-be concluded election by introducing a practice that is completely alien to the constitution and the electoral act.

“The clear implication of this action of the AGF and INEC is that the APC would be fielding two different governorship candidates in the on-going Kogi election.

“This means that INEC would be transferring votes cast for late Prince Abubakar Audu to another candidate, scenarios that have no place in the constitution of the land,” he said.

Metuh said that since the PDP in respect for the dead, had since Sunday refrained from making comments on the Kogi election, the party could no longer maintain such in the face of the `barefaced attack’ on Nigeria’s democracy.

He said that INEC under the leadership of Yakubu had shown itself as ‘partisan, morally bankrupt and obviously incapable’ of conducting a credible election.

“In view of the foregoing therefore, the PDP demands the immediate resignation of the INEC chairman.

“The call is important as the nation’s democracy cannot afford to be left in the hands of an electoral umpire that cannot exert its independence and the sanctity of the electoral process.”

He said that the PDP National Working Committee had summoned an emergency National Caucus meeting on Wednesday, November 25 to take decision on the “obvious threat to Nigeria’s democracy.”

Politics / Biafra: Sultan Of Sokoto's Message To Buhari, Ipob, Massob by chysweet(f): 2:13pm On Nov 24, 2015
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar 111, yesterday expressed worry over the increasing agitation for Biafra bysome Igbo groups. He said the northern traditional council would soon send a delegation to Igbo leaders in the South East on the issue.

The Sultan spoke yesterday at the second General Assembly of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council in Kaduna.

This was even as the Sultan condoled with the people of Kogi, Benue and the entire country over the death of former Governor Abubakar Audu, the demise of Tor-Tiv, Alfred Torkula and the loss of Nigerian pilgrims during this year’s hajj in Saudi Arabia.

The Sultan, who chairs the council, said millions of Igbo resident in all parts of the country were against the Biafra agitation, hence, the need to send delegates for a dialogue to allow peace to reign.‎

He said: “We are very much concerned about this issue because we know we have millions of millions of Igbos residing with us in our homes, in our towns, in our states, very peacefully, very industrious, helping our communities and our economy to grow and so many of them as we know, keep telling us that they have nowhere else to live than where they are presently living.

“Since we have this coordination with millions and millions of them, what is happening now is a thing of concern to us and we believe we should look at this issue and most likely set up a small committee of senior traditional rulers to go to South-East and engage our brothers there (traditional rulers) so that we will know how we can come in to stop this agitation,” the Sultan said.

He commended some Igbo leaders and governors who did not support the agitation, adding that it must be condemned totally because, “we believe in dialogue, whatever the problem is with anybody, we believe we should sit down and discuss and a solution will be found.”

Politics / BIAFRA: Bode George Warns Buhari by chysweet(f): 10:23am On Nov 24, 2015
PDP chieftain, Chief Bode George, on Monday advised the government of President Muhammadu Buhari against using force on pro-Biafran protesters, warning that Nigeria cannot survive another civil war.

George, who gave the advice during his 70th birthday celebration in Lagos on Monday, also urged the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to stop their protests.

George said, “I want to plead with the Biafran protesters to be patient and I urge them to tread softly. No nation goes to civil war twice and survives. We are still meandering to build nationhood.

“Let us build this nation together. We must ensure that everyone has a sense of belonging. Sharing of resources and appointments should not be a winner-takes-all affair. Let us debate and deliberate over our affairs. Dismembering the system through protests and agitations is not the solution.”

He however said that secession was not the answer to the problems of Nigeria, urging Igbo leaders and the group to hold talks with the government.

Politics / BIAFRA: Again Buhari Warns IPOB, MASSOB by chysweet(f): 6:14am On Nov 22, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari has warned those seeking to secceed from Nigerian, saying that the Presidency would not fold its arms and allow anyone to plunge the country into crisis.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the Senior Executive Course 37 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State on Saturday, Buhari, who was represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said those agitating for the division of the country should have a rethink, warning that they should not underrate the capability of the Federal Government to preserve and defend the territorial integrity of the country.

Buhari said, “Government would not fold its arms and watch, while some individuals and groups create unnecessary tension in the country in the guise of seeking to break away from Nigeria.

He said, “We need to build the civic capacity to defeat the false and dangerous premises and assumption of violent extremism. Never again should we allow mindless violence inspired by false and evil precepts to threaten our national security.”

The President, while reiterating the determination of his administration to end all forms of terrorism in the country, said, “Let me again call on persons or group in the country who have some grievances or disaffection to submit to peaceful and democratic means of expressing themselves.”

He said the military had gradually degraded the ability of Boko Haram to hold the country to ransom.

He added, “Let me reiterate that Boko Haram terrorism as well as their ideology will soon be defeated and consigned to the dust bin of history.”

Buhari said the more crucial task confronting his administration was the task of defeating the false and evil ideology of violence extremism.

He admitted that there were educational setbacks in the country but said his administration would tackle the challenges in the education sector as a means of ensuring better future for Nigeria’s younger generation.

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, said Wednesday that the much- publicized meeting scheduled to take place in Owerri, Imo State, could not hold because of the continued detention of the director of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.

Director of information of the faction, Comrade Uchenna Madu, in a statement yesterday said in addition, the continued protests by pro- Biafra groups in some cities in the South East and South –South did not create a conducive atmosphere for such a meeting to take place.

Madu’s statement read: “We support the meeting of the South East governors and Ohaneze Ndigbo, with pro-Biafra groups to douse the tension, but we believe that such a meeting cannot take place while Nnamdi Kanu is still in detention.

“The continued detention of Kanu, non compliance with Biafra demands will continue to haunt, frustrate and diminish Nigeria’s image before the international community.”

He said that for such a meeting to succeed. all the groups championing for the actualization of Republic of Biafra should be invited to participate.

The House of Representatives yesterday, directed its committee on Financial Crimes to investigate the alleged non remittance of funds worth over N1 trillion to the Federation account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

This came as a result of a motion which was moved by Rep Leo Ogor, PDP tagged: “Urgent Need to investigate the Non-remittance of Court-forfeited Funds and Properties by the EFCC into Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation and for other Related Matters.”

The lawmakers make reference to a petition by one George Uboh in which it was alleged that incumbent and past leaders of the EFCC diverted over N1 trillion recovered from accused persons through the directives of the courts.

“The past and present leadership of the EFCC is being accused of diversion of funds worth billions of naira meant to be paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation as stipulated by Section 31 subsection 2 and 3 of the EFCC Act of 2004”.

Ogor also noted that reports in the media indicated that the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Justice has directed the EFCC to investigate the allegation against Ibrahim Lamorde and to forward the result of its investigation to him”.
But he noted that other agency can handle the investigations since the the EFCC is not the only agency of government charged with investigations that bother on diversion of funds by public officers”.

He added that to thoroughly investigate the allegation of diversion of funds, the leadership of EFCC and other members of staff of the anti graft agency must be investigated while emphasizing that by the powers conferred on the House by Section 88(I) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, the House, just like the police and the ICPC can investigate the diversion of funds by Lamorde, past and present leaders of the EFCC.

The presiding officer, Deputy Speaker, Yussuff Lasun put the motion to a voice vote with the lawmakers giving their overwhelming support to the move. The lawmakers also directed the Solicitor-General of the Federation and the Federal Ministry of Justice to re-assign the investigation of the petition of George Uboh against the EFCC to either the ICPC or the Police.

Reports on Tuesday indicated that the Federal Ministry of Justice had in a letter signed by the Director, Public Prosecutions, Muhammad Diri, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary dated October 8, 2015, directed the EFCC to investigate the allegations of diversion against Lamorde contained in the petition by Oboh and forward the report of investigation to him “as soon as it is completed.”

The letter addressed to the petitioner with reference number, DPPA/PET/EFCC/006/2008 reads: “I refer to your letter dated the 28th September, 2015, in respect of the above mentioned subject matter.

“I am directed to inform you that your petition has been sent to the EFCC for their response to the allegation contained therein. Politics / APC Lauds Supreme Court Decision On Wike's Appeal by chysweet(f): 1:51pm On Oct 27, 2015
The All Progressives Congress, APC, Rivers State Chapter, on Tueday commended the Nigerian Supreme Court on its decision to throw out Wike's appeal.

Wike had approcahed the apex court, asking it to declare the sitting of the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja as being against the law.

But the court ruled that the President of the Court of Appeal acted in line with the ‎law in transferring the sitting of the tribunal to Abuja for security reasons.

The court also affirmed the judgement of the Court of Appeal, which had earlier okayed the decision of the Tribunal to assume jurisdiction.

“As a party, the APC is grateful that all seven eminent jurists of the Supreme Court unanimously agreed that there was sufficient violence before; during and after the elections to justify the relocation of the tribunal to Abuja and that the relocation of the tribunal to Abuja was to safeguard the lives of the tribunal chairman, members and witnesses.

The apex court likened the violence in Rivers to that of a theatre of war such as is prevailing in the North-East”, the party said in a statement sgned by its Publicity Secretary, Chris Finebone in Port Harcourt today.

The APC noted with delight that Justice Okoro from Akwa Ibom State not only concurred but went further to say that Rivers State was a theatre of war and as such protection of life and limbs of members of the panel and interested parties was paramount and thus relocation of the Panel imperative.

The APC also commended the eminent Supreme Court Justices for once again re-affirming that they always dispense justice without fear or favour despite the frequent boasts by Nyesom Wike that he has all the Justices of the Supreme Court in his pocket, whatever that means.

The significance of all seven eminent Justices of the Supreme Court speaking in one voice in today’s judgment according to the APC, is that the faith, hope and confidence of the ordinary Nigerian to get justice is assured in the Nigerian judicial system.
