@ Teetunz64 and codeQue the pepper has arrived I mean the bakker brothers but I noticed that the place the write the expire date is on a sticker on the pepper tin.

I saw the picture you posted. It's the same that was sent to me again.
We nursed them and its over a week now and no growth, the technisem Avenier F1 we nursed same day have all grown.

Have faith, it could be something about me and bakker brothers. Nurse them, lets know if they grow for you.

@ codeque please which company is producing super habanero f1 and what about yield compare to the other one you mentioned

Super Habanero F1 is produced by Nirit, distributed by Dizengoff.
Just like every hybrids they have very good yields.
In order of yields, ill rate them as

Super Habanero F1 by Nirit
Avenier F1 by Technisem
Piquante Red F1 by East West seeds

@ Teetunz64 and codeQue that means I just entered one chance😭😭😭😭😭😭,so pls what do u suggest I do now and if I plant and did not germinate wic seed is better?

Did you get the old seeds or the new seeds?
Whichever way, plant them first, they could grow.

Seeds seems scarce at the moment.
You can try east west seeds, piquante red F1 or Efia (OPV)
Super habanero F1
Avenier F1
These are the ones i have planted before.

Please have anyone planted bakker brothers hot pepper seed here?pls can u tell me how good it is and the germinate rate.

Nursed them in January none grew. However the seeds expiry date was late 2020. So i guessed the seeds are stale.
I complained to the distributor, who now has new seeds, he wants to replace my January purchase with new stocks so i can try again.
Due to the lock-down i'm yet to receive the seeds.

If you are buying them though, check the expiry, if it isn't 2022 upwards, they would be old stock so don't get them.

Better to sell as soon as possible.

Okay thanks. That does leaves the farmers at the mercy of the off takers.

I've watched several documentaries on storage methods used by the indians, where they build cold rooms using charcoal. It increases the shelf life by another week.

I'll give it a trial, even if it isn't this season.

Please how do you store your peppers if you do not wish to sell to market immediately?

Keeping them in a well ventilated cool dry place, they lasted 7 days before showing signs of decay.

Are there tips on how they can be stored for a longer period?

Thanks OluchiDelly

OluchiDelly:

SW open markets don't like Clemson for reasons best known to them, they only manage to buy it when Hire and other short pods varieties are scarce in the markets, that's usually Feb to April. Let your market dictate what you plant.
Agriculture / Re: 500,000 Naira From One Plot Of Land In 90 Days. by codeQue: 10:51am On Apr 22, 2020
Thanks for the detailed tip.

okoroemeka:
Clemson spineless ,nihort nh-43ae,kirikou are the varieties I know that will be sold before it is even harvested, and the best season for okra is around the corner, target to harvest between july-august okra are usually scarce and costly by that time.

exactly, the market don't like what it's not familiar with,my farmer friend planted that long variety sometime and I had the opportunity to taste it,the taste was better, crisp and super slimy, but the market don't like the long size,I think in veggies it's best to play safe and plant what is in local demand, you can't go wrong with those varieties in the pics.

Oga okoroemeka, kindly confirm, this are Okra Hire and Clemson Spineless right? I want to plant some okra and all seeds im seeing is clemson spineless.

my brother in vegetables farming, prevention his better than cure. Those seriously affected crops will have poor yield.

This effect of whitefly infestation on my farm

Heyah, sorry. I must have been really lucky on my farm then. As @okoroemeka said he sprays weekly, i fight my workers when they suggest we spray, if we don't see any signs of insects i don't approve their spraying.

The things i'm seeing are really scaring me.

here in ogun state.. that bag would go for 14 to 15k or else we're now having shortage of money in circulation and I'm also aware some locals prefer the local variety to hybrid.. you will sell for higher price in lagos

Definitely, first, most of the peppers are yet to ripe. Those that ripen first isint much to hire a vehicle to those destinations, will not be profitable.

In the next one or two weeks, when the bulk are ripe, definitely i wont be considering local sales.

Who local help ...lol

ok.. you're in ogun state right?? my best bet right now is to wait till may before harvest

Farm is in Ottu, in Oyo state.
Definitely, the 25kg we harvested was sold for 6k locally.

With the lockdown, im in Lagos, but fortunately my workers are still at the farm.

I cant wait for the lockdown and covid 19 to be over.

We have not done a total harvest. We only hand picked the riped ones. That gave us a 25kg basket.
98% are still green.

A Nigerian, Leke Ojikutu has built a ventilator from materials sourced locally and is suitable for ICU and serious cases of covid19.

It's automated, with the following features:
1. Computerised microprocessor controlled
2. Deliver breaths to a patient who is physically unable to breathe, or breathing insufficiently.
3. It's Rechargeable. Powered by battery and electricity.
4. Electronically controlled by a small embedded system to allow exact adaptation of flow characteristics to an individual patient's needs.
5. Mass producible in hundreds within days
6. Utilises parts which can be sourced locally
7. Can be modified to be powerful enough to make 1 ventilator serve 10 to 20 patients.

Got the Velum @20k here in lagos.
Got the application tip through a farmer i follow, Ayokunle Ore.
Check his post here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVjCDq3oh3M there is a link to the producers instructions in the description.

I applied through drip as recommended.

Psalmy2cute:

how did you apply the vellum Nematicide?? and how much did you get it?
Agriculture / Re: 30k Twice A Week From My Pepper Farm by codeQue: 9:25am On Apr 05, 2020
Thanks for the tip, will do that.
I planted a test quarter plot, which are 6 months older than the main project.
The leaves below automatically shed off, i was hoping same will apply to these.
But ill prune the leaves as recommended. Thanks.

FarmTech:

.
Try and prune out all those leaves that are close to the ground. It will aid air circulation and prevents fungi diseases. Rainy season is coming.
.
How much did you bought the velum? And how many liter/gram is it.
.
If u are finding it difficult uploading pictures, reduce the file size . Maximum file size for pictures is 4MB.

Psalmy2cute:

hows the production rate of avenir f1.?

The pictures are not uploading.
In order of production

Super Habanero F1 - the fruits are as big or slightly bigger than Avenir ( I have not tasted it yet so i cant tell how hot it is ).
Avenir F1
Efia
Piquante red is not fruiting yet, we transplanted that late.

We did not prune any of the peppers. Super Habanero F1 and Avenir F1 are very busy, Efia is less busy.

There were some moralities of healthy plants. They just dried off. I chatted @okoroemeka, who was very helpful in recommending a copper based fungicide. I used this along side making some changes in the farm.
We increased the irrigation period from 3 hours to 6 hours, based on the intensity of the sun. The plants were healthy and the mortality stopped.
Some weeks later we noticed another one and after investigating it shows signs of Nematode, so we applied Velum (a nameticide).

All has been good since then.
I have not been to the farm in 2weeks + now cos of this lagos lockdown. I only monitor remotely.

How much did you get this?

Got it 7k, but the seeds were close to expiry. I had a bad experience with it though.
You might want to check the expiry first .
