Education / Ajimobi Commends Founder Of Kola Daisi University At Inaugural Meeting by creativa: 2:02pm On Jan 12, 2017
Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has described education as the foundation of development and civilisation, saying “anyone who shows interest in helping in societal development and progress would be encouraged at all time by his administration.”

This, according to him, was the main objective of encouraging the establishment of the Kola Daisi University (KDU), Ibadan, adding that “I believe it is only fair that we encourage anyone regardless of the relationship who wants to help in the development of our state.”

Governor Ajimobi made this known last Thursday at the inauguration and joint meeting of the Board of Trustees and the Governing Council of the Kola Daisi University (KDU), Ibadan, which took place at the university’s premises.

While he commended the founder of the university, Chief Kola Daisi, for his accomplishment in the history of the state, he also congratulated the newly inaugurated members of the board and the governing council, saying “when you look at the membership, you have not only intellectuals, but also accomplished Nigerians in their various fields.”

He challenged the leadership and management of the institution to take a cursory look at the area of funding, by coming up with a model to financially run the institution; to commit to providing quality education, as well as maintaining the sustainability of the university against all odds.

In his welcome address, Chief Kola Daisi thanked Governor Ajimobi for his influence and interest in education, saying “but for his help, it would not have been possible to get a location for this university.”

He acknowledged Ajimobi as the father of the institution, stating that “this is the first university to be promoted by an Ibadan indigene.”

“I have no hesitation in submitting to the chairman of the governing council and members the BoT that we owe our governor a debt of gratitude, which even the next generation may not be able to adequately repay and not just as the founder, but as a member of the Kola Daisi family, I thank you very much from the bottom of my heart.”

In his remarks, the chairman of the BoT, Emeritus Professor O. O. Akinkugbe, noted that quality is non-negotiable when it comes to making KDU becoming one of the best universities in the world.

He declared his willingness and readiness to bring his wealth of experience to bear in running the affairs of the institution, noting that, a community with a terrain so alluring and the principal organs so well put together cannot but make the waves and bring immense credit and plaudits to its progenitors and generations to come.

In his acceptance speech, the pro-chancellor and chairman of council, Professor Adeniyi Osuntogun, expressed appreciation on behalf of the entire members of the governing council to the founder and the BoT for the opportunity to contribute their own quota to the development of the new university.

At the meeting, Professor Kolawole Timothy Jaiyeoba was announced as the first vice chancellor of the university.

Other members of the BoT include Chief (Mrs) Sherifat Kola-Daisi, Professor Adeniyi Osuntogun, Chief Akin Olujinmi, Chief Biosun Salami, High Chief Biodun Kola-Daisi, Mrs Sumbo Obaseki, and Dr Ebun Dalemo.

Inaugurated as members of the governing council were Dr Tony Marinho, Mr Lekan Adegbite, Professor Oladapo Oladiti, Professor Olufemi Bamiro, Professor Dolapo Afolabi, Mallam Bashir Tukur, among others.

Food / How To Prepare Adalu/beans And Corn Porridge by creativa: 12:28pm On Jan 12, 2017
Adalu (Nigerian Beans and corn Porridge) is a delicious traditional Nigerian food, also known as ''Ewa ati Agbado''(yoruba) and ''agwa na oka''(igbo).
It is a great way to combine beans and corn together. In this way, you get the best of both foods in a single meal.
If you are not a fan of beans , this recipe will make you an instant beans lover.
Here's an easy Beans and corn Porridge recipe. Enjoy!

Ingredients for Adalu/Beans and corn Porridge:

-300 g red beans /black eyed beans/brown beans
-250 g sweet corn(either canned or raw from the cob)
-1 medium onion bulb, chopped
-2 tablespoonful ground crayfish
-2 cooking spoonful red palm oil/red stew oil
-1 stock cube
-Pepper to taste
-Salt to taste

Preparation:
Before cooking :
*To cut down on cooking time and reduce ''gases'', you can soak the beans overnight or for 3 hours. Rinse off and set aside.
If you are short of time, alternatively , you can use a pressure cooker or make use of Akaun(edible potash) or baking soda, to soften the beans as it boils)
*If you are using canned sweet corn, strain out the liquid, rinse(if you like) and pour into a sieve and set aside.
*If you are using fresh raw corn from the cob, remove from cob, wash well and set aside

To cook the Adalu/Beans and corn Porridge

1. Pour the beans into a pot, add enough water and leave to cook until for about 45 minutes or until tender.
Tip: alternatively , you can use a pressure cooker or make use of 1 teaspoonful Akaun(edible potash) or baking soda, to soften the beans as it boils.

2. When the beans is tender, add the sweet corn , crayfish, pepper and stock cube, mix well and leave to cook for 10 minutes.
(if you are using raw corn, add it to the pot at the same time as the beans, because it also takes a long time to cook)

3. After 10 minutes, stir well and add the palm oil and salt to taste. Leave to simmer for 10 more minutes and your Adalu/Beans and corn Porridge is ready.

Adalu/Beans and corn Porridge can be eaten on its own or topped with Nigerian Fish Stew or Stir-fried greens.

Food For Thought: Do you know that cooked sweet corn increases the level of ferulic acid in our bodies , which helps us to prevent cancers?

Enjoy your meal.

Business / I Thought I Was The Only Deaf In The World Until I Saw Other Deaf Students Aroun by creativa: 4:59pm On Nov 28, 2016
It is a great achievement for any man to perform extraordinary acts – but it is even more so when this is done despite a terrible disability. This is the story of Oluwadare Opeyemi, a deaf and dump young lady in her early twenties have distinguished herself in her chosen field despite her disability. Through the power of her arts, this talented young lady is a living example of the popular saying: disability is not inability. Ibadankiniso Media was in her workshop recently where we had a long conversation with her through the help of an interpreter.
IBADANKINISO: Kindly give us an insight into your person
OPELOVE: My name is Opeyemi Oluwadare, and I am also known as Opelove. I am deaf and dump but that doesn’t mean I cannot communicate. To me, communication doesn’t only entail speaking. Its involves a process of passing message between two people. As long as an individual can decode a message I pass and I can decode his or her response, communication has taken place

IBADANKINISO: The depth of your knowledge is amazing and your words are deep. How did you come across such thoughts about communication which you just expressed?

OPELOVE: Communication is the fundamental attribute of my type. Through education, we were exposed to these thoughts. Presently I am a student of the University of Ibadan and I read a lot about these things

IBADANKINISO: Would you say that being deaf has been an obstacle in your academic journey?

OPELOVE: To some extent it has. Firstly, I attended a normal school with normal pupils. When the teacher is teaching, I find it hard to comprehend. So, my teacher will always tell me to copy my friends and that was how she will grade me. This method wasn’t bringing out the best in me. Besides, I was not given the adequate attention I needed. Eventually, I left the school for a special school where I eventually finished my primary education. The special school enormously gave me educational/ career breakthrough. I thought I was the only deaf in the world, until I saw other deaf students around me. I was excited, knowing the fact that am not the only deaf in the world. I rounded up my primary school at Ibadan school of the deaf. From there, I went to Methodist Grammar School Bodija Ibadan. I continued my special education at FCE special Oyo State, where I studied Economics, I finished in 2014. Presently, am a student of University of Ibadan centre for distance learning, am studying Social works. From my elementary education through secondary school it was not truly an obstacle but at the university it is I was not able to do my desire course, because we have only one interpreter for all courses, so most of us were pushed to social works.

IBADANKINISO: Who has been your greatest inspiration?

OPELOVE: God has been my greatest inspiration, He has been helping me, even when I don’t know what to do, God will teach me in the dream and when I wake up, I will remember clearly. I will cut and make it well. Also, my parent. My journey is incomplete without them.

IBADANKINISO: How did you conceive the idea of going into craft and leather work?

OPELOVE: When I was in Jss3, at Methodist Grammar School, I have been making small purses which I put round my neck to keep money. I did it for fun because I enjoy it and my School mates also admire and buy from me. Later, I stopped making it, after my secondary school, during my teaching practice exercise, one of the teachers was abusing a student that she does not know anything. So, I asked myself, what do I know? I could not remember that I used to make bag. After my teaching practice, there was an indefinite strike, during the strike; my mother asked me what do I want to learn? I was confused, she advised me to pray about it. I prayed about it, God told me I used to do something before; He said I should continue with what I used to do. Later, my mum told to widen my knowledge in this handwork. , she advised me to learn how to make school bags and other things with leather. God brought someone to teach me, but I could not learn much from her because she was hiding some skills from me, this made me feel empty. Eventually I seek the face of God and He put me through. I made a school bag for myself and took it to school, my colleagues and lecturers appreciated it and that was the beginning of my desire to keep doing it though some found it very difficult to believe I made the bag.

IBADANKNISO: Is being deaf an obstacle in your business journey?

OPELOVE: I was born profoundly deaf and I use American Sign Language to communicate. I read people's lips, If I don't understand them I will write whatever I want to say on the paper, and they will also write back to reply.

IBADANKNISO: We saw you at the Ibadan Entrepreneurs Network gathering the previous week. How did you hear about the program?

OPELOVE: A church member informed me about it. I went there to exhibit my works. It's indeed a network; my clients have increased through the network.

IBADANKINISO: What advice would you give people with disability?

OPELOVE: My advice for people with disability and special students is that they should know their talent. Their God-gift talent. I have a friend who has a talent in drawing, nobody taught her. Your talent can make you great; search yourself before you choose your career. I love my work, I thank God I know my talent, some people learn a skill for 2-3 years, yet they can’t practice it, know what will make you happy. I’m proud of what I do; I can make bags and hats. I learnt bag for two months, hat for three months and I know more than what I was taught.

IBADANKINISO: Thanks for having this conversation with us

OPELOVE: You are most welcome.

Celebrities / I Was Involved In Domestic Violence For 12yrs– Hilda Ehidiamen by creativa: 4:35pm On Nov 21, 2016
Sometimes, when we see people on screen and other media, we are always quick to conclude that these set of people are having a good life without challenge. However, the reverse is the case because they have a responsibility of putting smiles on the faces of their viewers and adding values to people’s life, they sacrifice a lot. These encapsulate the personality of Hilda Ehidiamen, the fashion lady of Galaxy TV who recently had a chat with Ibadankiniso Media. Journey with us as we share the touching and life changing story of a Boss lady who made a way through her career despite all personal challenges. Enjoy.

IBADANKINISO: Give us an insight into who Hilda Ehidiamen?

HILDA: My name is Ambassador Hilda Omosefe Ehidiamen, I’m a fashion lady from Edo state. I was born in Lagos state but I grew up in Cross-River. I graduated from Edo State University, Ekpoma, now Ambrose Ali University where I studied English language. Am a single mother of two kids; Victor and Erika who are into modeling as well.

I run a fashion show on Galaxy TV called ‘Fashion with Hilda’ and I run it with my partner, Matthew Olaleye. Also, I run a modeling and ushering agency where I train young people to believe in themselves. One thing I have come to realize is that self-confidence is the key in any enterprise we find ourselves.

This is the key thing I inculcate in my trainees. As the social media has become a platform of social engagement and mechanism, I run an NGO group on facebook called HILDA’S TOUCH NOT (a fight against violence and rape).

The motive behind this is not to encourage young girls alone but to serve as their mouth piece. I also have a yearly show that I do, HILDA’S FAMILY FASHION SHOW, it’s for young girls, have written a book titled G.I.R.L meaning, GROWING INTO THE RIGHT LADY.

IBADANKINISO: What drives you into all these engagements?

HILDA: We are who we are by the sum total of our experiences, knowledge and exposure. What drives me is a combination of personal experience and my desire to ensure that I make the world a better place. I strongly believe in the axiom that says “be the change you want to see in the world”. In my little way, I am changing the world.

IBADANKINISO: How did you find yourself in Ibadan?

HILDA: Well, it wasn't a pleasant thing. I was actually involved in a domestic violent relationship, a bad marriage and that was what drove me down to Ibadan. That was six (6) years ago and am loving Ibadan. Ibadan is really a place to be, but when I first came down, people said I was crazy because Ibadan is not like Lagos, Port Harcourt or Benin where social life is at optimum but being in Ibadan has been awesome because Ibadan is taking over and am loving it.

IBADANKINISO: How long have you been a T. V Presenter? What really inspired your choice of career?

HILDA: Broadcasting has been a lifetime passion. Before I got into broadcasting field I was into movies with my ex-husband. We produced a couple of movies and I started with ‘Third eye’ then featured in the movie ‘Ripples’ from there to ‘Glamour girls 2’. All along have been involved in one or two screen display here and there.

So, when I got to Ibadan I thought of what I can do because most of the movies here are Yoruba based movies which I’m not so good at, but then broadcasting found me through Mr Okunola the GM of MITV. I got his contact through someone and I called him to cajole him, telling him that despite the fact that his station is one of the best in Ibadan, something is still missing in his station and that missing thing is me. He laughed about it and invited me over. Through that encounter, we established a network. He later told me MITV will be coming over to Ibadan and I should be on TV not on Radio.

Eventually, I was picked to be part of breakfast show by adding a segment to it. I have always been fascinated about people who have distinguished themselves in life, people who have made it here in Ibadan, so I told them I will like to be interviewing them so that the youth can learn from their experiences, but funny enough, I was introduced as a fashion lady to talk about fashion and since then it’s been fashion which I never planned for but thank God I have created a niche for myself in that sub – sector.

IBADANKINISO: As a Fashion Presenter, what motivates you?

HILDA: I have flair for African prints. I strongly feel, we can run the world with “Ankara”. I also get motivated by people who are focus irrespective of life challenges and in my field; I admire people with creativity, people who can think outside the box. All these motivates me

IBADANKINISO: What distinguishes you as a presenter?

HILDA: Dynamism is the key. In all fields of endeavors, dynamism is the key. What used to be obtainable in broadcasting three years ago is different from what is obtainable now and what will be obtainable in the next three years. So, if I am stagnant I will be replaced by someone who is up to date and dynamic.

IBADANKINISO: What are the challenges of modern day broadcasting considering the social media factor?

HILDA: The media is one. Be it social media, print media or mass media. One cannot do without the other and this falls back to dynamism which I said earlier. One great challenge for me as a person is instrument to standardize my show. Recording has not been easy and it takes a lot of input to get things done. There are modern gadgets that we are working towards

IBADANKINISO: What’s your take on the current situation of the economy?

HILDA: The only thing I will say is change doesn’t come easy. Change comes with a lot of pain and that’s what we are going through now. I’m not saying am comfortable with it but for something good to come in, we have to go through the pain, they say ‘No pain, No gain’ So if we are going through this now for something good is to come in, it’s okay, we will surely grow pass it, we are a strong people.

IBADANKINISO: From your experience, what is your advice for people who have been broken through domestic violence?

hida1-edited4

HILDA: I’m so touched by that question because. It’s not funny to be violated and that is why I wrote a book about women who have been through domestic violence. It’s not easy, I lived in it for twelve (12) years, I was actively been abused, being raped by my husband in front of my children. It’s God that can help you out of it but most importantly, you can help yourself out because if you are waiting for people to help you out, they won’t. So many people believe more in your marriage than your life, they will only advise you to stay back especially when you have children; they want you to stay and die in the marriage.

Funny enough, my son was the one who asked me to leave because he grew up in it, seeing his mum being molested. So I will advise that if you are in such abusive relationship try get my contact to reach me because you need to talk to someone who has gone through it. Yes, God hates divorce but I’m yet to see where it is written in the Bible or Quran that one should stay in an abusive relationship.

My pastor will say “my Christianity ends when a man lay his hands or abuse his wife or woman” it should never be accepted, when it happens, just leave, because they don’t start by beating, it starts from verbal abuse, when you accept it, it graduate to emotional abuse, from there to a slap on the face and before you know it, it keeps going and it will even happen sometimes in the public. As for me, I put my pastor’s advice into consideration and I did the needful.

I know it’s not easy to just leave and put all behind, why did I not leave until I was abused for solid twelve years, because it has not gotten to the point where I needed to leave but please I’m begging you not to let it get to that point because the person might die. I will advise the ladies out there to just leave such relationship, don’t be scared, I left and I suffered, I slept with my children on the floor of a rest room, I went through a lot but today I’m doing well and I have a story to tell.

On how to pick up your life after leaving, I will say it’s not easy but you need to be focus, don’t think of how you will start or what people will think of you, I left my marriage six (6) years ago and am still picking up, if you keep thinking of who to help you financially, you won’t move from a spot, just make a move like a fool, just like a blind person, I left Lagos with my kids having nowhere to go.

I begged on the street to feed my kids too. Why am I emphasizing on leaving is that; it’s better for you to start all over again, from the beginning than to remain in an abusive relationship and please talk to someone about it, get advice from people who have been through it, if you are learned, pick up your certificate and start all over , you can’t do anything if you are still in that relationship, just take a day at a time, you can’t just get back to your feet over night, no but as for me, I left and am happy, I can think well and chose well too, if I’m still there i won’t be able to do any good thing with my life and also when you leave, work on yourself, don’t rush into another relationship, you are not mentally balanced for that yet, you just left where they make you feel you are useless, worthless and inferior, get your balance, don’t rush things, leave first and God will help us all. Thank you.

IBADANKINISO.com: Thank you so much ma for sharing your experience with us

HILDA: You are welcome and thanks for having me too.

Crime / Man Cuts Off Wife’s Hands For Not Giving Him Baby After 7 Years Of Marriage by creativa: 4:18pm On Aug 02, 2016
This man in Kenya has been arrested for cutting off his wife’s hands because she failed to give him a child after seven-years of marriage.

A Kenyan man, Stephen Ngila Thenge, has set the East African country on fire after he allegedly cut off the two hands of his wife, Jackline Mwende, for not being able to get pregnant for him after seven-years of marriage

The Nation Kenya which says the action is about the most barbaric case of domestic violence in the country, reports that the 34-year-old Thenge, after beating the 28-year-old Mwende silly and inflicting severe injuries on her, he used a knife to cut off her two hands out of the frustrations of her not being able to give him a child.

The incident happened in Kathama Village, Masii, in the Machakos County, on July 24.http://ibadankiniso.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Stephen-Ngila-Wife.png

As he was inflicting injuries on me, I cried and called for help but he fled before neighbours arrived. They were all afraid of touching me, they thought I was dead. I was rushed to Machakos Hospital where I was given painkillers and got a blood transfusion. I was discharged on Friday.”
