Good afternoon,

If you receive notification from USCIS that the waiver has been approved, please contact the consulate with this information. I hope this is helpful.

Regards,
VO

Hello dear VO,we received notification from the USCIS that my husband's waiver was approved on April 10. How should we contact the Lagos Consulate with the information? He has already tried to send the information to Lagosiv@state.gov but received an automated response. We will appreciate your help with this. Thank you and do have a great day!

Hello dear VO,greetings and thanks for the work you are doing on here.My husband had his interview at the Lagos US Consulate a little over 9 months ago.We already submitted a waiver as requested over 7 months ago and still waiting for it to be adjudicated. Are there specific instructions about updating/informing Lagos US Embassy seeing that its almost one year that he's had his interview or there is no need to do so.

Thanks!

Hello cute2014. The visa allows you to knock on the door of America. Only CBP can decide whether to open the door and let you in.

Thanks so much, she'll apply for another one.

Hello cute2014. The expiration date on a visa is the last day that you can apply for entry into the US. It is up to CBP as to whether entry is granted.

Thanks so much for your prompt response. Her visa expires on the 15th Feb and we are planning that she should get here by 13th.I'm worried about the CBP you mentioned and want to ask if you would advise she should just get another visa

Hello dear VO,I am sorry to bother you with this question in case you have answered it in the past.I need some clarification: my mum is coming over again to the US on a visit, can she travel using the same 2yrs B1/B2 visa within days/weeks of expiration for a 6 month visit or must she get another visa appointment/via drop box?If no,will she qualify for drop box or make a fresh/new visa application and appointment?I think I read somewhere that its okay of one travel before the expiration. Her current visa expires in Feb.Thanks!

So this isn't a rule, per se, but I would think it best to submit your new petition for the Spouse of an LPR (F21) and once you have received confirmation that it has been received/accepted go ahead and file for your waiver. Since you already know the ineligibility to are in a good position to know what you actually need waivers for compared to some of the other folks here who think they may need a waiver and are just blindly applying.[/quote]

Thanks so much for your response. The I-130 petition has been approved. We got the NVC Welcome letter last week with our LGS.... case number and now working on the instructions. So we could go ahead and file the waiver now, right?Just making sure that we are on the same page please.

You can apply for the waiver at any time: http://www.uscis.gov/i-601

Hello dear VO,its been a while that I have been on this forum.Just like the previous VO,u guys do rock.Well done!I am an LPR via the 2014 DV,my husband was unable to travel with us (myself and 3 kids) due to a misrepresentation bar and we were asked to file a waiver. We decided to delay the waiver application till my LPR status was activated and also because our interview was almost at the end of the DV fiscal year. The processing times for the waiver is somewhere between 3-8 months. Then bam,I saw the below on the previous VO's Nairaland thread.

Now my question is that would you mean filing the waiver AFTER the interview or really anytime? We are currently at the NVC stage,if really anytime, that would mean we could go right ahead NOW with the waiver application simultaneously with the NVC stage, right?I know the waiver department is not yours but a confirmation from u and/or any advice on ways to reduce the time he would join us here will be appreciated. Thanks and do enjoy the rest of your day.

My mum's only been to South Africa before. Her passport was flipped thru from cover to cover.
She was addressed respectfully as maam (She's only 60) and only asked:
Where she was going in the US?
Who she's going to visit?
Mum:She mentioned her daughter's family and her grandchildren
How many are the grandchildren in the US?: 3
How many grandchildren in Nig? She forgot for a moment and started counting them (lol); 4
How long is she planning to stay : 180 days
To pick her 2 yrs' visa on Friday and was advised not to use more than 6 months in the US at a time.

It was only by His mercies, grace and favor. Thanks everyone.I pray that God will perfect all that concerns every1 IJMN.Amen.

VisaOfficer:

Glad to hear you're doing well! I hope your husband's interview is scheduled soon!

Edited: My earlier answer was incorrect, but not in the way I had hoped. Neither the children nor the mother in this case are eligible to apply for the Diversity Visa lottery. If the father were still alive, both he and the mother could apply; but the mother cannot apply as a widow, and the children cannot apply because "A child born in a non-qualifying country in which neither parent was born nor resident at the time of the child’s birth, may claim the birthplace of either parent." In this case, only the father was non-Nigerian; the mother is Nigerian. So the children are not eligible, because only one of their parents is from an eligible country.

Thanks maam,I have just forwarded the message to her.Do enjoy your day.

Hello maam,how are you doing?Long time,shey?!!!

The kids and I have been settling down nicely.I submitted the I-130 application for husby in January, processing time @ Vermont Service Center where it got routed to was 30th September,2013 as at Jan 20,2014 cry.Its a long time away but we are still grateful that the window of opportunity existed. Thanks so very much for your encouragement and assurances when we thought all hopes were lost.God bless you and your team in its entirety for your good work.

I have a question on behalf of my sister, her husband's dad is Togolese but mum is Nigerian. The parents met,got married, gave birth to 4 kids in Nigeria. The dad died in Nigeria in 1997,the body was transported and got buried in Togo. The 4 kids have never gone to Togo before except their mum.The kids have the dad's surname (very obvious that its a non-Nigerian name, lol) but they all went to school in Nigeria and I guess all have Nigerian passports for identification. The questions ma:

1.Can they apply for the DV lottery using their dad's nationality?

2.Should any of them be lucky and get selected for further processing, must they get Togolese passports?Or would their dad's documents be enough?

3.Can such a person be interviewed in Lagos or must it be in Togo?

The reason for this is because they want to know the rules and how it applies specifically to their situation before venturing into it.
Thanks and do enjoy your weekend ma.

Nice one brother. Well said

We have since settled since we arrived in september. All thanks to God. If there is a bbm group, I will like to join. Lets keep sharing ideas like we did before getting here. I can be a good resource as well. The way God settled me is unbelievable. Upon arrival my family and I moved into our house,My kids resumed school the next week, all our documents came to our address in 2/3weeks i.e SSN and green card. Got a solid SUV in the 4th week. I have brilliant ideas on how we can make our sojourn here a pleasant one and I am sure most of us have great ideas too. With God, there will be ways and better ways. Infact I am a testimony to that. So lets make ourselves a resource to one another and God will take us to greater heights. Where most Americans have failed,we will super succeed. Amen. To everyone I say thank you and God bless.

Congrats.

Dekonjay: Good evening everyone. Been away for sometime busy preparing for our trip. Arrived Dallas safely last night after 15hours trip from Europe (where We were based). Thank God the journey was stress free.
For anyone arriving Dallas/Fort Worth international airport please be prepared to spend about two hours to cross Custom and Border security. We spent three hours in all at the airport. It's a long and lengthy process for the paper works. After we got off the plane we walked to the custom check point and joined the queue for NON US CITIZENS on a visa. The queue was very long. 90% of the people were Asians and South Americans as our flight arrived at the same time with that of Qatar airways. It took about an hour for it to get to our turn. When we got to the custom officer we handed him our passports and sealed envelopes. He asked us if we are immigrating today, we said yes. He asked us to confirm our address where we will be residing which we did. Then he took our digital prints and pictures and then accompanied us to a waiting room where he asked us to wait until we were called.
We waited for about two hours before we were called. Our finger prints were taken again, this time the old fashioned way, by ink. Then we asked to sign a form writing our full names. We waited another 10 mins and then we were called again and handed our passports.
We were totally exhausted. I was even more worried for our luggage. Luckily they were all intact and waiting for us.
Please always check your passports have been stamped when the custom officers hands you your passports. We found out our passports weren't stamped on entry after we picked up our luggage at the last security post.
That's it all for now. Will try to keep up as time goes on.

Thanks for sharing and congrats for safe trip.

Who is saying anything to entice the VO, so cos we are all Nigerians we should spare u and allow u spoil the good name 'NIGERIA'. Lets call a spade a spade! A thief is a thief, what is bad is bad, irrespective of the surrounding situation. I know u will like to hide under the guise of the Nigerian economy, but that is not a licence to misbehave afterall we've seen successful Nigerians who has never been to other countries yet they made it. I'm a Nigerian, and i'm proud to be...

@ all... before u say anytin further to entice the VO here, remember we r all Nigerians o

What is this supposed to mean?I don't get ur statement;remember that we are all Nigerians ,meaning its permissible to be corrupt or what?We are supposed to be role models wherever we find ourselves and for me it starts from the home/family.What u just said says a lot about you and your values.

Am pretty sure most of the african foood stuff most pple listed here can be found in the African Stores here in America... People should just wise up and save themselves from extra baggage...

I did!Yes,I know its available over there but not that its as cheap as u have it here.If u have space for it esp when travelling with 2,3,4 kids why not?Its an advice,u know. Not compulsory that it must be taken.I personally would, besides I would not want to start going to the stores buying naija stuffs immediately I get there.Like I said, its a matter of personal choice.

DobraDobra: Guys congratulations to every one may d joy never stop just to chip in a word or advice I will recommend people travel light ie just go by d 23kg of d airline especially for people that are still going to put up with strangers it will not be wise to fill up dia homes with ur luggage and at d end of d day u won't use all d cloths u have dia and moreover America is about moving around u never can tell when next u are moving and to what part. Cloths don't get dirty easily and better if we have money and buy things as need arise coss u will still need a lot of it to do almost everything. Reasonable number of medication is ok but not d quantity as if one is going to open a store to sell . Please do remember ur agbo jedi too(herbs tree back) u will sure need it I noticed no one talks about dis. D most importantly don't let us breakrules no driving if u are not suppose to we don't need to start with a criminal record. It will be lonely some times so don't forget home communicate bak with which ever way possible. Its d dawn of a new day enjoy d new status.

Thanks for the advice.

If you have a "reasonable" quantity of medicine in your hand luggage and can explain what it is for you should be ok.
Problems start with people having very large quantities of unknown medicine.
If you know the name of the medicine look up on Google for information on taking it into USA.

Yes,u are very right.Besides,u are supposed to use your antimalarials here before leaving. As for ur antibiotics,I'll suggest u shd be very resonable.

Lwkmd. Cutie 2014 na serious planning o. After waiting 15 months for interview, I wan live my American dream fast fast o. I started planning as soon as we received 2nd NL. Checked for ticket and have been eyeing that date since July as it's the cheapest...luckily the price remained the same. I was even ready to start packing our stuff in August grin grin grin....How are preparations on your end? Just discovered you are a doctor. Good for you! You have got quite a challenge ahead as regards practising in the states....you have to sit for some exams I imagine if you didn't study in the states..
I'm not flying from Naija so it's easier for me and cheaper to do BA...

Yes,I now understand u now as per the BA.And I know about the exams,I trained in Nigeria.I'm already on it,its a daunting task, esp with kids but not insurmountable.I went to write Plab in the UK,even got registered with the GMC but just didn't practise there as I've always wanted US.By His grace I'm going to give it my all and leave the rest to HIM.

Unfortunately,I can't answer the prescription part as its not ethical.Ideally one shd know what u are treating before u take the medicines. But buying broad spectrum antibiotics like Amoxycillin/Clavulanic and Cefuroxime in a reputable p'cy should not be a problem.Antimalarials are like pure water here,so treat urself b4 u travel o.
Travel / Re: DV 2014 Winners Meet Here by cute2014: 5:50pm On Sep 09, 2014
Also to the preceeding lists,u may want to add:

Bottled groundnuts,Semolina, pap, snail(fried),hair attachments like Expressions, and Medicines like antimalarials and broad spectrum antibiotics. Also Robb and/or Aboniki balm.

For those with kids:Their backpack should contain cereals(dried),powdered milk, bread(toast) with a spread, bowl, apples, cookies (u'll get hot water in the plane)and a jacket. This is necessary if the airline serves an unfamiliar food.I can just imagine the twins when they eat, whatever they've eaten and no matter how late they must still step down with Golden morn cereal.Lol!

Also; u may want to do both ur natioanl drivers' licence and the int'l driver's licence as it depends on the state u are going to.LEARN HOW TO DRIVE BEFORE TRAVELLING!!!

As for graduate school;u need to do ur transcripts, some did via WES,don't av much details as it does not apply to me.

For women; Learn how to make hair.I am taking 1-2hrs on days I'm not on call to do this as my almost 6years' old girl is so fashion conscious when it comes to hair so I nd to be able to keep up wt her and also save money.

Also don't run down ur electronic gadgets' battery down,sm1 mentioned ds but do not know why.

Yes,ur passports AND medicals MUST be in ur handbag!!!

Most impt advice I got was to save and never try to borrow, except for Mortgage as an example.Live within your budget!!!
