MBA programs are not reputed for their academic rigor. It is more for networking.

I fully agree with you.
Career / Re: Tax In A Big Four Audit Firm Or Investment Banking by Danielrex(m): 12:21pm On Feb 06, 2023
I honestly believe that having (passing) academic degrees is far easier than professional certificates.
If you've tried ICAN or ACCA, you'll agree that it's a completely different ballgame than your BSc experience.
This is not to disparage MScs and MBAs, but I believe academic programs have a more casual and easy-to-understand approach, whereas most professional certifications require a high level of discipline and self-motivation to begin, attempt, and ultimately qualify.

The CISB accreditation only applies to stocks and securities trading; it may not be applicable in the investment banking world.
ICAN/ACCA may (or should) continue to fly, in my opinion, because part of their course content would be useful in the investment banking practice.

Being someone with low self esteem and socially awkward, I'm beginning having issues with relating well with colleagues and one particular girl wants to be using me to rub it...

How do I meander this maze?
Hello, as a young professional your major strength is your level of competence and emotional intelligence.
After my first 3 months here, i was subjected to a performance appraisal and to be honest i knew deep down that i didn't merit my overall score.
I work with a lady, who is below me in rank, but has more experience (she has been working with the Lead Auditor before i joined), during my appraisal it was her kind words and (maybe) my relationship with the Lead Auditor that helped.
I ensured that i was respectful, friendly and diligent. i asked a million questions and i was always willing to take on extra tasks.
I try to maintain a good work relationship with my team members.
In building and maintaining work relationships, first you need to have an understanding that this is WORK and whatever happens here is WORK, so if you feel anyone is taking advantage of you and it is outside of your WORK then i honestly feel you should find a polite way of rejecting such extra burdens.
Mind you, i am not saying you should not bear extra team tasks or extra tasks designated or delegated to you.
Lastly, even as an extrovert it is sometimes difficult to blend into the company culture (just like your first day in the University), but what always work for me is a for at least my first month i operate on an even tempo (not too friendly and not too snubbish). This is because most times as new staffs in a company in our bid to appear friendly and approachable we tend to overdo and give people a false perspective.
We want to be seen as friendly, but we end up being perceived as unserious and unprofessional.
After you maintain this even tempo for a while, your emotional intelligence would help you know and determine certain member of staff that you can cool and relaxed with and others that should be on a ''greet and let's work basis''
I hope this helps.

I got into a Top Financial Service Firm in Abuja as an Audit Analyst with zero work experience, and i must say it has been a rollercoaster.
Ultimately the first thing i realised was Theoretical knowledge from school doesn't really equate practical competence.
it was an uphill climb, so many mistakes, my line manager has over 10-year experience in Auditing from 2 of the Big4 accounting firms so his level of competence is way above mine, funny enough he expects that i should be able to at least match his outputs.
Overtime, keeping an open mind, willingness to learn and self-education will help a whole lot, after every report and audit i go back and check the changes and reviews my boss made to my work, in hope that i won't commit such blunders again.
This has been my mantra for the past 5 months on the job.

i am scheduled to have mine today
Career / Re: Tax In A Big Four Audit Firm Or Investment Banking by Danielrex(m): 8:41am On Dec 20, 2022
I personally don't buy the CISB certification, in my opinion i see it as very restricted and limited. it doesn't really give you very many options in finance.
i maybe wrong, but i think most CISB holders are already experienced stockbrokers that need the extra certification to either elevate in their current or prospective position, have their own firm or for the good old bragging right.
Not very many entry and mid-level stockbrokers hold the certification.
What i am trying to say in essence is, as an entry level professional still finding his path in the ever dynamic and interrelated world of finance certifications from the CFA, ICAN, ACCA gives you broader access.
Some CFA holders held certifications from ICAN and ACCA and only got into the CFA to further cement their competence in finance (Most likely when they had moved from routine accounting/audit/financial reporting and similar roles)
So, my guy, i no fit tell u wetin to do oo, but e go beta make u go do ICAN, ACCA or CFA. i intentionally ranked them in this order consider cost and global acceptability.
CFA, ICAN and ACCA holder can work in stockbroking, but i don't think CISB holder can work competently and comfortably in Investment Banking, Audit and Accounting.
All this are in my opinion.

From Tax, you could go into Consulting, Consulting to SAT, SAT to Investment Banking
Career / Re: Tax In A Big Four Audit Firm Or Investment Banking by Danielrex(m): 3:45pm On Dec 19, 2022
Hello Bro
i recommend that you go for Tax, not even cause of the service line but because of the Big 4 Advantage.
I am currently an applicant to 2 of the Big 4s and from my knowledge, working in a Big $ give you a comprehensive perspective and insight into the world of finance and by extension the economy.
Working in a Big 4 firm gives you access, access to contemporaries and more experienced persons in the same line of service s you, and also others in different lines.
Starting as a Tax Associate in a big 4 means that you literally get to know all there's to know about tax, believe this knowledge would be give you an edge even in investment banking.
Investment banking doesn't really relate to Tax, but Tax definitely relates to Investment banking.
On a finally note, go into tax, get the experience and the exposure, if you still feel investment banking is the deal for you, then you can get your CFA and move to Strategy and Transactions Unit in a Big 4 firm, or in a different investment banking firm.
This is just my opinion.

secondly the whole visa and embassy thing seem like a very daunting task, please can you explain how to scale that hurdle.
reading through this thread, i saw that people apply for visa appointments even without admission
please can you help me clarify these uncertainties.

Surprisingly, it is the group members who share the information that I consider useful and relevant. We literally just talk about ideas and brainstorm. A large portion of our discussions are devoted to providing clarity on the events that led up to the assessment center. You will agree with me that no one has a full idea what this whole thing is about.
This is why we formed the group; I believe it is more convenient to exchange information on WhatsApp than on this platform.
The majority of the information is time sensitive.

I'd like to reiterate that if you wish to join the group, kindly reach me at 07064762036.

Hello,I can relate with your perspective, however I honestly believe things aren't actually that way.
The WhatsApp group thing isn't a bad idea.
I can say I personally sent the group link to everyone that reached out to me.
And I can tell you for free that no form of marketing is happening on the group.
So please, don't work with such assumptions.
