Politics / Who Is Obasanjo? by Demtoks: 2:29pm On Sep 16, 2020
The recent christening of Former president Olusegun Obasanjo as the Divider-in-chief by a presidential aide to President Mohammadu Buhari is apt and not very far from the truth. This development was in response to OBJ's controversial comment that the country was drifting into a failed and badly divided Nation-State under the present administration.

This development is rather needless and laughable, especially when it is coming from the person of OBJ, who instead of developing the country as a Military Head of State and later as a democratic President holds the record for impunity and mismanaging the country's huge resources. Now that the chickens have come home to roost OBJ is crying wolf in his characteristic manner.

As a former President, a lot is expected from OBJ rather than his fantasy for cheap propaganda against those who succeeded him. It is evident that his administration despite the availability of huge economic resources has little or nothing to show for, especially as corruption and looting of public funds thrived under his watch and glaring insecurity occasioned by the activities of Egbesu and Bakassi Boys, OPC, MASSOB, and MEND among other groups which was the order of the day.

Globally, it is common to see past Presidents and Head of States often take the back seat and assist successive administrations by giving advises and proffering solutions to issues based on experiences garnered by them while in office all in the interest of their nations where they are referred to as elder statesmen. This statesmanlike character does not seem to be the case of ex-president Obasanjo who takes up every opportunity to ridicule every successive administration especially the President Muhammadu Buharis'. As a matter of fact, Obasanjo has written unconstructive open letters to all successive administration in the country. Little wonder his messianic arrogance has led to believe he is the only leader fit to rule the country so much that he brazenly pursued the infamous Third Term Agenda. Suffice to note this administration’s policies are primarily geared towards righting most of his wrongs when he was at the helm.

OBJ's criticisms many a times raise questions as to whether it comes from an objective mind or maliciously driven going by the fact that he led Nigeria for a total period of 11 years both as Head of State and democratically elected President. Undoubtedly, this means he should have good knowledge of governance in country and contribute to its growth and development, as well as it woes. But the reverse is the case as he has the senility to forget that he was once in the helm of affairs when the country had its share of challenges but he chooses to peddle propaganda just to distract a president who unlike him is making giant strides in the country.

It is no secret that Obasanjo's accusations of Buhari's failures are the exact failures he recorded while being president. His failure to address ethno-religious relations which had plagued our chequered history as a country since 1966 and other centrifugal forces attempting to fight against the indivisibility of the country.

In addition, to the challenge of endemic corruption recorded in core sectors of the economy under OBJ's administration is unparalleled in the Nation. The inferior privatizations of public institutions like the then National Electric Power Authority, NEPA and the mismanagement of $16 billion expenditure on power project remains unanswered. This is aside other staple looting of public funds like the N950 billion non-existent road constructionsand his failed bid for third term which ranked Nigeria among the most corrupt countries with lack of infrastructural development and over 50% decline in employment rates among others.

Undoubtedly, Obasanjo established institutions like EFCC, but used the commission as a tool to harass perceived political opponents and enemies which made his administration notorious in breaching basic fundamental human rights of Nigerians. OBJ with his foible should not be pointing out that of others.

Politics / Is Amotekun Another Regional Militia From Southwest Political Power Brokers? by Demtoks: 9:00am On Mar 27, 2020
Controversies have continued to trail the recent inauguration of Western Nigeria Security Network by south west governors in Nigeria, code named "Amotekun". The launching of the South West regional militia outfit on 9th January 2020 triggered reactions from within and outside the country.

This led to the declaration of the arrangement as illegal by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami. Most public affairs commentators and analysts applauded the action of the AGF by noting that the South West Governors who were fronting for their power brokers were only skimming to set up the militia group in other to actualize the creation of Oduduwa Republic should they lose out in 2023.
The six South West Governors led by Kayode Fayemi remained adamant despite this outcry. This led to series of campaigns and protest against the formation of the militia group across and outside the region. Notably was the 17th protest March in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State by some youths that were drawn from the six South Western States. The group which came under the banner of "Yoruba Appraisal Forum” called for the scrapping of the militia outfit.

They confirmed that they have uncovered the plot by Governors to use the group to destabilize the region and by extension the country in 2023. this was expressed through different placards they displayed which read: "Amotekun Will turn Youths to Militia Group". "Amotekun Can Bring Proliferation of Arms". The coordinator of the group Mr. Adeshina Animasaun was quoted as admitting that the Amotekun project has been hijacked by those nursing ambition in 2023.

The coming of Amotekun amidst prevailing security challenges poses a serious threat to the fragile internal security of Nigeria. The group which metamorphosed through the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) with notoriety for violence remains a cause of concern to all and sundry in the country. This is going by past experience with threats from ethnic and social groups which have been acting the political sphere since the return to democratic rule in 1999.

The continuous threat emanating from the activities of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), as well as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), among other ethnic militia groups on the socio-economic development of the country is clear picture of what the country is bound to witness should it allow the group to exist.

Concerted efforts should be made by the Federal Government to prevent the South West Governors from equipping and funding this militia group that has been set up by selfish and unscrupulous individuals who are bent on destabilising the country. The nation's security agencies including the Police, the Military, DSS and others must ensure that this group and their handlers comply with directives and warnings of the Federal Government on the existence of the group.

Politics / Obasanjo Is Morally Bankrupt And Should Stop Teaching Others Morality - Moshood by Demtoks: 2:10pm On Jun 07, 2019
Dr. Moshood Iyanda (Phd)
Kwara State University, Malete

In Yoruba land, leaders are not respected because of their age only; but their moral uprightness and commitment to a high sense of preservation of moral standards, by doing the generally accepted right things consistently over time. In Yoruba land and other African settings Elders are seen as role models in society; as people worthy of emulation.

However, in Obasanjo’s diary, morality has since developed feathers and flown away.
Former President Obasanjo as an elderly man, is supposed to be a person his children and grand children should see as a role model; however, he has broken all the barriers that should give him that leverage and respect. Especially when respect for womanhood is concerned, Obasanjo has defied all the odds that he no longer has control of his manhood but a reverse is the case.

Obasanjo during his years as a Nigerian President had gone so low in the abuse of office offering numerous appointments in exchange for sex. It was alleged that Obasanjo had slept with all the female Ministers in his cabinet except Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, who denied him the forbidden fruits which made him send her packing as the Minister of Finance.

At one point Obasanjo was accused by his Son Gbenga of having sexual relations with his wife (obj’s daughter in-law). The incident so infuriated Gbenga that he sought for Divorce in court citing adultery with his father as a basis for the request that the marriage of six (6) years be terminated.Mr. Morality did not even spare defiling his own family. Obasanjo's immorality stinks to the core so much that he was accused of using the number one office as a venue for sex marathon.

Because of Obasanjo's love for immorality, at some point his daughter Iyabo Bello Obasanjo had to frown at his disgraceful act and for his affinity for too much women. No wonder he even confessed that he had lost count of his wives at some point in his life.

The question Nigerians should ask now is that, should Obasanjo be taken as a serious person worthy of attacking other people’s morality?

Car Talk / So Buhari's Official Car Na Boi Boi Sef... by Demtoks: 1:12pm On Jun 05, 2019
The Presidential inauguration may have come and gone, but the frenzy that greeted the Car that Buhari used for the next level ceremony rages on.
Curiously, I sought to find out the cost of vehicles notable leaders across various continents and regions uses. The result of the research is mind blowing as findings have revealed that the car that Buhari uses is far cheaper. In short na boi boi compared to what others use.

Follow me on this jolly ride

VLADIMIR PUTIN

➢ Russian President Vladimir Putin used his inauguration in 2018 to unveil his long awaited, armored Aurus senat limousine, the first of its kind in post-Soviet times. The presidential Cortege is covered in armored plating and weighs a total of six tons. The car runs on a 6.6 liter V12 engine, with a reported horsepower of 860, according to its manufacturers. The car is one of a fleet that cost $192 million to develop;

DONALD TRUMP

➢ The United States presidential state car (nicknamed "Cadillac One" or the Beast) is used by all US presidents after inauguration. The current model debuted on September 24th, 2018. It weighs between 15,000 to 20,000 pounds (6,800–9,100 kg). From records made available by General Motors, a whopping sum of $1.5 million was reportedly spent to make the model in 2018. Its armor plating is said to be 8 inches thick and its doors weigh as much as those on a Boeing 757 aircraft. It five-inch thick bulletproof windows contain at least five layers to put a damper on any effort by subversives. And those gigantic, nearly bus-size Goodyear tires are Kevlar-reinforced run-flats capable of keeping the Beast on the road for quite some distance if needed. The interior is sealed off from the outside world to reduce risks of a chemical attack, while special foam surrounds the fuel tank to insulate it in the event of an impact.

THERESA MAY

➢ The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom currently uses an armored, custom built Jaguar XJ Sentinel supercharged 5.0 liters V8 models. The car being use by the Prime Minister is the long-wheel base models of the Jaguar XJ. It is believed to cost about $600, 025;

EGYPTIAN PRESIDENT

➢ Egypt's president uses a black armored Mercedes Benz S-Class as the official state car. The car is valued at over $516,000;

RWANDAN PRESIDENT

➢ The President of Rwanda often uses a black armored Range Rover Sentinel, escorted by several other vehicles and police motorcycles Rwanda. The car is cost at $500,000;

MALAWIAN PRESIDENT

➢ The President of Malawi is often seen driven in an armored Black Mercedes Benz S560, a Toyota Land Cruiser or Range Rover. The Mercedes Benz S560 is priced around $131,400;

SOUTH AFRICAN PRESIDENT

➢ The President of South Africa often uses an armored BMW 7 Series and occasionally a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. His motorcade comprises several Golf, Jeep Grand Cherokee, BMW 3 series and Mercedes-Benz ML-Class models, followed by a number of Mercedes-Benz V-Class and police cars. The armored BMW 7 Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class is between $83,100 and $96,400)

BUHARI'S STATE CAR

During the presidential inauguration, President Buhari was seen onboard Mercedes-Benz S550. Saharareporters claim the car is valued at $20, 000. Going by the report, it is obvious, Buhari might just be driving the least expensive car.
Even E-Money and Davido could be driving more expensive cars than the nation's president. In Africa, Nigeria's official car is rated as the 6th most expensive car, despite priding herself as the giant of Africa.

Politics / Nigerians We Hail Thee!! by Demtoks: 10:43am On May 06, 2019
Nigerians are once again contending with another disputed poll in the aftermath of the 2019 General Elections. I believe the prophets of doom who had serially predicted the disintegration of Nigeria were disappointed that their predictions had once again become a nullity. Many had predicted the disintegration of Nigeria as one indissoluble and united entity; those on this nihilistic mission have sustained their narrative since the advent of the 4th Republic in 1999.

Prior to the elections a political risk consultancy foremost for its geo-political environment risk assessment, the Eurasia Group predicted Nigeria’s road to doomsday, according the group their analysis, was based on two premise. Firstly, is that the two leading presidential candidates for the elections President Mohammadu Buhari and the leading contender Alhaji Atiku Abubakar are all problematic, each with a trail of risks associated with his election.

According to the political risk analyst, none of the two top contenders are absolutely trouble free. While re-electing President Buhari would mean contending with a physically exhausted president whose ill-health would trigger political in-fighting from within his camp, who will not be in a hurry to get on with reforms just as whose election would trigger crisis from other regions.

Meanwhile, in the words of Alhaji Abubakar, who said he would be enriching himself and allies. So, by Eurasia Group’s profiling, none of the two candidates is unproblematic. Secondly, there is the threat of inconclusive election which, in its words, could lead to chaos.

All these predictions are now behind us as the country is surging ahead unencumbered for the inauguration of re-elected President Mohammadu Buhari slated for 29th May, 2019. In the mean time, Atiku Abubakar is already before the tribunal to validate his claim as the authentic President of Nigeria.

This move is undoubtedly good for our political development as a country. Although, it is highly unlikely that Alhaji Abubakar would prevail in court; however, I want to believe his primary objective of taking legal action is to further deepen our democracy at the end of the legal battle. The process could reveal certain irregularities which could, in the aftermath of his legal action, be corrected by a more robust electoral law.

So why am I applauding the Nigerian people? Why do they deserve my admiration and praise? This past elections has shown that a new set of enthusiastic and patriotic Nigerians desirous of a better and great nation have emerged. Their resilience and doggedness in maintaining the peace is highly commendable and worthy of praise. It has shown that the peace and unity of Nigeria is more important than the ambition of a single individual, group or any section of the people.

Having noted the above, one major expectation from all well meaning Nigerians including myself is that we must put all hands on deck as all elected political office holders are sworn into office even as they seek to concretise our democratic tenets on May 29, 2019. All Nigerians without exception achieved all this in no small measure. Nigerians I hail una O!!

Business / Dangote Refinery To Boycott Subsidy On Petroleum Products by Demtoks: 7:32pm On Feb 04, 2019
President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has revealed that Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) that will be refined from Dangote Refinery will not be sold at the Federal Government’s regulated price.

Dangote spoke on the sidelines of the visit of Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele to the refinery in Lagos. The business mogul said though the plan is not to concentrate on export entirely, he noted that petroleum products from the refinery will be sold at the export rate.

He said it is the duty of the Federal Government to determine the price of fuel, adding that he doubts whether fuel subsidy will continue but if it does, the government can engage the company to find a mid-ground on how to tackle the issue of subsidy.

“We are not here to concentrate on export but pricing of products depends entirely on the government. If there will be subsidy, which I doubt very much, that is the job of government, not the job of Dangote to determine what the price will be."

But the price of our export is what we sell, which will depend on what the market is internationally, and locally if there will subsidy, the government will carry that responsibility and not us. The government has to engage us and see how they can find a mid-ground on that.”

On job creation, Dangote said the refinery and petrochemical project is transformational. Considering that Nigeria depends on importation to meet its fuel consumption needs and the attendant huge subsidy to keep pump price at regulated price of N145 per litre, he said the project will create massive jobs.

According to him, most filling stations don’t sell fuel because of lack of fuel in view of issues around importation, adding that when the refinery begins operation, it will put these filling stations and their workers back to work.

He said: “Currently, more than 26,000 people are working on the project and at the height of the project, the number of workers will soar to about 80,000 people and there will be more than 50,000 workers living internally in the company.”
Politics / Now That Atiku Has Sworn To Sell Our Patrimony To "Friends"—by Frank EZE by Demtoks: 4:43pm On Jan 18, 2019
The General elections are here and as usual, candidates are reeling out appealing manifestos to endear themselves to the electorates. While Buhari is talking about taking the country to the next level by consolidating on gains already made in the last three years, Atiku says he wants to get Nigeria working again by creating jobs. But has Nigeria ever worked before? And how does he intend to do It?

Although Atiku's mantra appears fascinating, the manner in which he wants to achieve it is very worrisome and dangerous to say the least. At a recent interactive forum, Atiku swore to sell NNPC, even if it will cost him his life. He added that he intends to make his friends rich. In a rhetorical fashion, he asked "or are my friends not entitled to be rich?"

Atiku's plan to sell the nation's patrimony to friends in the name of making them rich is tantamount to subtle enthronement of cronyism. Who are these Atiku's friends? Did they perform well while in Government? Has Atiku entered into an agreement with some cabals? General Gusau facilitated the emergence of Atiku as PDP flag bearer, after retired Generals including former presidents such as ; IBB, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Obasanjoj and TY Danjuma secretly met. Today, Saraki, Sule Lamido, Kwankwaso and other tainted politicians surround him. Are these his friends?

Atiku has clearly told us that he wants to return Nigerians to the Biblical Egypt. Most of the persons mentioned above raped this nation and laid the foundation for the prevailing economic woes. Some plundered their states and left them in long term debts.

Privatization isn't bad, especially when it is well intentioned. Beautiful as the concept is, Nigeria has failed to reap its benefits. From NITEL, NEPA, etc, privatization has left us in worst state. It will be more dangerous that a presidential candidate would openly tell us who he wants to sell to his friends, in order to make them rich, instead of in order to revive the frail industries.

Let him be reminded that his statement is contemptuous of the Nigerian nation and its suffering electorates. An attempt to sell our remaining national patrimony to friends is to say the least, mortgage our collective future in favour of a few cabals and buccaneers who had commandeered the Nigerian state to this current pitiable state. Nigerians from all works of life must rise up and resist this call. The oil sector remains one of the major factors holding Nigeria together. It must not be sacrifice on the altar of cronyism.

Politics / The Tale Of Two (south Africa VS Nigeria) - Minimum Wage by Demtoks: 8:07pm On Nov 27, 2018
South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa has signed into law the national minimum wage bill. The development came at a time Nigerian workers are yet to get total commitment to N30,000 from federal and state governments. Reuters reports that Ramaphosa’s office said on Monday that the signing was part of efforts by the government to tackle wage inequality in Africa’s most industrialized economy.

The National Minimum Wage Act sets South Africa’s minimum wage at 20 rands ($1.45) per hour, equal to 3,500 rands per month (N126,000). The law will come into force on a date to be determined by Ramaphosa, the presidency said. Supporters of the minimum wage say it will reduce inequality and stimulate economic growth as workers spend more. Thousands of union members protested against the proposed minimum wage in April.

This creates serious tension within the polity as sizeable number of the masses and public employees see the development as a stitch in time.

In Nigeria the story is different as the federal government as well as state governments remain indecisive regarding the N30,000 minimum wage. given the economic situation of the country, increase in minimum wage will mean corresponding increase in the general welfare of the workers in Nigeria.

However, would the increase in minimum wage come without consequences ?

Politics / Who Is The Devil Between The Persecutors And Maina? by Demtoks: 4:07pm On Oct 27, 2017
Believe it or not. This is strictly media trial. I am asking if Mr President was told these seven issues which nobody fighting Maina would want him to know. For the sake of posterity, I will ask and let the seven issues be public.

I know the pension matter so well. I and Danlami Nmodu of www.newsdiaryonline.com met working on the pension scandal. Ironically, both of us graduated from the University of Ilorin. He worked in Tell Magazine while I was in TheNews Magazine.

We broke the first story’s details. At a point, I got calls to back off the report. I refused. I had my three-weeks old Camry car crushed by a strange truck that massively rammed into the vehicle. Checks revealed where it came from.

I was attacked 10 days later with a gun. All they took was my 15-inch Apple laptop with a footnote: “go and continue writing all those nonsense you dey write on us.”

Now, Having established my depth. These are fundamental truths no one will tell President Buhari. Having forced Mr President to dance to a massive media barrage which painted Abdulrasheed Maina as blacker than Lucifer, who will tell President Buhari these truths like I do know? I owe the public and I thus, ask.

Did anyone tell Mr President that on 2nd November 2013, to achieve its objective of deceiving the Senate and Nigerians, the Senate Joint Committee Chairman, Sen. Alloysius Etuk accused the Chairman of the Task Team, Abdulrasheed .A. Maina, of embezzling, Stealing, misappropriating and mismanagement of N195billion of Pension funds on live television between 2005 and 2010, belonging to the following offices: Nitel Pensions, Nipost Pensions, NEPA Pension, Railways Pension, NPA Pensions, NNPC Pensions and all the Pensions offices in Nigeria.Maina’s committee never existed until 2010. Senate lied.

These institutions: Nitel Pensions, Nipost Pensions, NEPA Pension, Railways Pension, NPA Pensions, NNPC Pensions NEVER had anything to do with Maina’s committee. Senate lied again.

Did they informed Mr President that the Senate Committee headed by Etuk was alleged to have collected N3billion in dollars from the people Maina caught for pension thieving?

A petition written against the Joint Committee Chairman Senator Etuk by some aides of one of the suspected Pension thieves, Shaibu Sani Teidi, is before the EFCC and ICPC detailing the grand conspiracy against the PRTT and its Chairman;
Why has the petition not received any action but instead ONLY the Chairman is being hounded by the operatives of EFCC;
EFCC CANNOT investigate nor prosecute Maina alone because they were members of the Inter-ministerial Task Team working on the Pension Reform;
Did they tell Mr President that former president Goodluck Jonathan administration without due process and obedience to the Civil Service Rules dismissed Maina for being absent for three days? This is inspite the fact that his life was under threat following gun-shot attack on his person in front of Head of Civil Service Office, where his office was located in February, 2013.

He was shot at with five bullets on the car he was in a day after the Senate railroaded the Executive against him;

Did they informed Mr President that Based on perceived injustice and lack of fair hearing by the Senate Joint Committee on Establishment and Public Service and States and Local Government Administration co-chaired by Sen. Alloysius Etuk and Sen. Kabiru Gaya under the leadership of Distinguished Senator David B. A. Mark, the PRTT and its Chairman (Maina) took the 7th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to court at Abuja Federal High Court in a suit Ref: FH/ABJ/C5/65/2013 where it obtained a favorable judgment on 23rd March, 2013.

The judge in his ruling held that Senate (7th National Assembly) failed to meet the constitutional provisions of Section 88 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The judge ordered Maina to be restored back to the civil service;Till date, the Senate has failed to appeal the judgment of the Court or reverse its decision upon which it passed a resolution for the Chairman of the PRTT (Maina) to be sacked from the Civil Service. It has failed to comply with the provisions of Section 88.

Did they tell Mr President that while the PRTT was making efforts at recovering over N3 trillion Pensions Funds using its intelligence know-how, then Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of Economy without off-setting our expenses in line with Presidential Directives of 23rd October, 2012, established the Pension Transitional Arrangement Department (PTAD).
Iweala co-opted most of the Deputy-Directors including Mr. Kaigama (D.D Accounts of PRTT) among others to the new structure;
Maina out of 13 members is the only person accused of stealing, misappropriating and mismanaging over N195billion of pension fund.

Later, when Kabiru Gaya recanted the N195billion story, they changed the charge to $2million!
Today and sadly, the Income Salaries and Wages Commission approved a special salary scheme for staff of PTAD with the DG earning as much as N43, 848,513.00 per annum over and above the salary of President as approved by Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

Did they also remember to tell Mr President that the then Minister of Finance and coordinating Minister of Economy have failed to account the balance of the N282billion retrieved by Maina’s team (in the CBN) from where N74billion was factored into the National Budget of 2012.
(a) Did they also tell Mr President that Senator Kabiru Gaya told Nigerians via interview he granted the Sun Newspaper of 3rd April, 2016 with caption “Buhari’s One year better than PDP’s 16 years – Sen. Kabiru Gaya” to discharge Maina of the unfounded allegation of stealing, misappropriating and mismanaging N195billion between 2005 and 2010 even when the PRTT was not in existence.
His words: “You remember I was a member of the 6th and 7th Senate and I am still a member of the 8th National Assembly. During the 7th Senate, we were able to do a probe of the Pension Scam.

I was a co-chair of that committee. During that investigation, we were able to discover N195BN stocked in accounts of various Departments, Agencies and Ministries (MDAs) for Pension and they were not using those monies.

Did they tell Mr President that Maina is the ONLY Civil Servant out of 13 members of PRTT that is under prosecution? Where are other members of the Task Team?
Could he have singlehandedly stolen those monies without the knowledge of his team when recoveries are made in team movements;

Yet, all monies paid had to be signed by the Head of Service from where the CBN pays into commercial banks and to beneficiaries;

Did they tell Mr President that there were complaints in writing of a subsisting case in the Industrial Court brought by Mr. Abdulrasheed A.

Maina (Chairman, Pension Reform Task Team) against his illegal dismissal from service by the Office of Head of Service and Federal Civil Service Commission, to the office of the Attorney-General, the chief legal officer of the nation, who reviewed the matter and decided to obey the court pronouncements directed that Mr. Maina be re-instated as ruled by Justice Adamu Bello in his judgment of 27th March, 2013, since there is no subsisting appeal by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or any other interested party;

If the President was told these seven posers we won’t be where we are.
The media trial of Mr Maina is certainly beyond what the public is made to believe. His return means that some folks whose activities have not been exposed will be possibly exposed.

Was one of the 43 persons under prosecution not a major shareholder in a large media organisation in the country. He stole from poor pensioners and used the proceeds to buy into the newspaper.
