Dartmouth College (New Hampshire) is one out of the six colleges/universities in the entire US that offers "full need blind financial aid" to international students and it's also reputed as an Ivy. Because of this, you should be able to get a picture of how competitive it will be getting into that school, I got a Nigerian friend though who attends there and according to him, if you are very lucky to get in there then you will most certainly be able to finance your education all the way regardless of your families economic status. The admission requirements isn't what I can start counting out here but it is way too much. If you are a fire brain then sure you can give it a shot, all the best!!!!

Then one thing about Massachusetts is that the city is relatively small and majority of the population are students because of the number of institutions there are numerous. If you are applying to top schools, you should be aware that they receive thousands of application worldwide so your chances of getting an admission decision could take up to months unlike when your applying to moderate ranked schools which could take as little as 2weeks. So check with the school's admission policy before you get committed to them, that's my best advise.

And as for those paying SEVIS fee, why would you want to waste your time and resources traveling all the way to another place just to get the fees paid. I will tell you this! If you got families here or a highly trusted friend, simply send them the $200 and ask them to pay it for you via "Western Union Quick Pay" or "check or money order". That was how I paid mine during my time so I didn't have to go through all those hassles. Please I ain't in no way soliciting to help anyone make any payment. I am only but sharing my own experience which I hope someone would find useful.

@kidUrbane, thanks for sharing that. I give my words that there is absolutely nothing wrong with choosing a community college. If you're in the right age (not so important) , the school is licensed, you know what you want and reasons for choosing that school as well as being able to convey it to the consular, you are as good as being on the edge like other applicants who are going with four year college's I-20. Like I keep saying and would never stop, your chances of getting a visa is 100% if you put everything to God. Don't trust your instincts or what others might say to you. It's appalling how some fellaz here have instilled false information and fear to applicants concerning this issue. It's totally FALSE. Good luck to you and should you require more scopes please share it on here and I hope to assist however I can.

Best wishes to you all finding their way here soon and once again I want to use this opportunity to appeal to all members, particularly those who were actively participating on this forum last year. It is not good that you came here and got all the info you needed which helped you secure your visa or not and at the end of the day, you are no where to be found. It is being very ungrateful, you guys should please come back and assist these upcoming ones. Don't forget sometime ago you were in the same shoes as them - being very anxious and seeking for information. Now that you made it through by God's grace, please show some appreciation by returning and share your experiences or make intellectual contributions . Peace out!!! smiley smiley smiley

GOD BLESS THIS GUY, BLESSED ARE THOSE THAT HAS GOTTEN THEIR NEEDS MET & THEY TOO ARE HAVING THE STRONG ZEAL TO HELP OTHERS.

@house,wats the chance of me getting my f1 on the 17th of may coz i'll be going along wit a community college's i20,my major is nursing and am jes 17+ of age

@ shavel, don't let what has been posted so far create any kind of fear in your heart. Just go for the interview with the right documents, more knowledge about your intending school, course of study, your future plan, the geographical location of the school etc, and with full boldness & be concise in your reply to the VO's questions. Forget about being community, society or jungle college jooo, why did USCIS approved them in the first place? , lol. U WILL BE GOOD.

@gendebs,try to check university of houston and houston community college, av applied to houston community college and they require no standardized test or pro test, shalom

@ Shavel & Gendebs, thru my experience from this thread right from Page 1 to this present page, I think a community college is a kind of "RED FLAG" when it comes to F-1 visa interview. Pls never misunderstand me, am only saying this as a result of what I've read so far on this thread as regard community college. But all the same just as like our slogan on this thread that 3 things grant you visa in U.S. Embassy/Consulate: YOUR CONFIDENCE, YOUR MOUTH & YOUR GOD (GOD: which is the ULTIMATE of them all). Cheers.

US Government Shutdown – F1 Visa – US Consulates

If there is no budget deal by midnight Friday (8th April 2011), US Government will shutdown. About 800,000 federal government workers will be out of job. What will be the impact to this thread? F1 Visa – US Embassy/Consulates will be closed worldwide.

US Consulates and Embassy come under Department of State. While the diplomatic and security aspects of the Department of State (DOS) operations would continue, visa applications would likely not be processed in the event of a shutdown.

Which means that the US consulates will not be open for visa appointments and processing. This would impact students going for Fall 2011 or other visa stamping, depending on duration of shutdown.

You could encounter long delays in obtaining visas to USA, possibly extending beyond the shutdown itself as consular offices are forced to reschedule canceled appointments.

SEVIS I-20

Sevis I-20 is handled by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and its not clear if ICE will continue to issue I-20′s during Government Shutdown.

Stay tuned for additional updates regarding US Government Shutdown and impact on immigration related activities.

We pray the U.S. Lawmakers reach deal on budget before this deadline which comes up in fews hours from now, so that the U.S. government will not be shutdown.

http://edition.cnn.com/2011/POLITICS/04/08/government.shutdown/index.html Thank GOD the U.S. lawmakers finally reached deal at 11th hour on Friday night in order to avoid shutdown of the U.S. government which will absolutely affect the entire world as a whole and my fellow nairalanders especially on this thread (General USA (student visa) Enquiries) LOLzzz. Kudos to these reasonable lawmakers unlike their naija counterpart. U.S. Universities/Colleges here we come,

Hello House, I actually have an HND in Business Administration and after my NYSC service, I joined my dad's own company (Family Business) which are into the business of Cargo handling, Warehousing & Logistics. I've been working with this company for almost 5 years now but within these years I have been attending seminars and conferences that is related to the line of our business (Most of these seminars are in the country & outside the country) because my father wants me to be well grounded in this business after he might have retired. So now he wants me to go and take an international course of study that is fully related to our line of business because of the way logistics business is being growing globally and after much research I applied to 3 schools in the USA and had been offered an admission to study Logistics, Material & Supply Chain management in a particular school with my I-20 at hand. But my question now is this: Wont the consular officer ask me why am I going for B.sc again after I've already gotten an HND? That I ought to have gone for Masters but sincere my dad wants me to be fully grounded in this course of study that's why he said I should start from the scratch besides I'm over 30 years now. I need your advise on this please. Thanks and God bless you all.

Hi friends, I was admitted into three (3) schools in the United States for FALL 2011 with the I-20s with me, but after proper consideration I prefer one to the rest two. My question now is that will I need to go to the embassy for the interview with the three (3) I-20s or should I just go with the one I prefer studying with? Because the VO's can be funny a times. Looking forward to hearing from you.

@ shewhy, I dont think the embassy/consulate accepts any kind of document from third party directly on behalf of the applicant(s), if they do, believe me, people will outsmart them, lol
