I think d drug hormonal and act by inhibiting d hormone responsible for lactation. They might have long term effect since they mess up with d hormones. Might be same reason it is advised not to take the oral pill.
Oh really,?? Thanks.

I used it the second time around based on recommendation with no side effect. I guess I don't have the patience to wait it out.

Get olive oil/coconut oil.

Rub it all over his head...generously.

Wait for 20-30 mins, depending on the severity.

Pick up a fine-toothed comb (picking comb), and gently ease the flakes off the scalp.

Then wash with a good shampoo...preferably sebamed or aveeno products.

Do that for a week and come back to testify.

Depending on the severity, you can even start seeing changes in as short as 2/3 days. Just ensure you don't peel it or pick at it with your fingers. You can infect the scalp.

Yes it is caused by a fungi, but I dont think it requires giving antifungal medication yet. Try the home remedy. It worked for both my kids. With my son, I didnt get the info on time, until I browsed baby centre, so it took about a week to clear off...but with my daughter, it went away within 3 days.

Well said...and babies eventually out grow cradle cap whether it is treated or not. The oil soaking method is just a way of managing/controlling it. My munchkin does not have it anymore and all I did was use olive oil and shampoo.

Have a blessed week Vetaran Mamas in the house! Pls who is on any working family planing method? This goal must not enter ooo cos baby is jux 8 months old. Pls share ur methods and styles oo......

The IUD(coil) is what I'm on now. I used it before this current LO and I had it for 4 years....but you have to be able to bear the monthly pain and heavy bleeding. I dread my AF every month.

My gynecologist tried to convince me to go on the pill, saying it has 100% success rate.... but I said No. I would rather deal with the pain than get fat.

Any mother know of a BC pill that doesn't make you gain weight?

Hello mamas, Please as regards cough and catarh, please we should be careful on what we give our kids whether home remedy or self prescription. Cough syrup is a no no for infants (so my paed said) especially when the cough is viral. We are to wait it out. Its not easy but if we are patient enough it will go. but to know if the cough or catarrh is viral or bacteria, then we would need to visit the hospital. My son has been having cough and catarrh for over 5 days now and when i went to the hospital, a full blood count was done and they found out it was viral and told me to go back home. That i could just continue with Vit. C. drops, nasal drop and also eucalyptus oil. The paed said the the time frame is 10days after which the baby's immune system is suppose to fight it but if after 10-14days no improvement, then the baby should be taken back to the hospital.

May God continue to protect our little ones and may they continue to grow in good health in Jesus name, Amen.

Thanks Nita2013

My type of paediatrician. No cough syrup or antibiotics needed.

Its obvious she didnt know your baby is 8+. Its good you cleared that aspect, in forums like this information isnt only for one person as several others like myself are busy screen grabbing information for use.
Now imagine a FTM here that doesnt know your baby's age, sees the beans recommendation then go feed her 2 or 3 months old beans.
No vex desiree thinks say your baby is 3 months.

MiracleMum thanks for speaking about information clarity. I have learnt to always cross-check, verify and confirm any online recommendation before I apply it.

This reminded me of a uk nurse that killed her 10 months old toddler through incorrect feeding method. It is not our portion ijn but we have to be extra careful.

@desiree, my baby is 8+ mths and not 3mths. Because I care about her well being, thats' why I asked these questions. I really don't like your tone especially at the bolded words. If you want to advise, please do it nicely and have all your facts before jumping in. Remember all babies do not react the same. What works for some may not work for another, so please do not generalise.

See extracts from the internet on feeding babies with beans.

" Tips for Preparing Beans: Beans are a major source carbohydrates, protein and fiber. They are filled with important nutrients including iron, calcium, B vitamins and fiber that help nourish your baby's growing body. They can be mashed or pureed, or an older baby can enjoy them in their whole form. Unless your child has a bean or legume allergy, all beans are safe for babies to eat. Beans can be hard to digest, however, so don't introduce them too early. Because beans can be hard for the body to digest, introduce them once your baby's digestive system has been able to develop adequately, such as around 8 months. [http://www.livestrong.com/article/554505-what-kind-of-beans-are-good-for-babies/]

Can I Give My Baby Beans? Answer: From 8-10 Months
Since beans are high in proteins, it is recommended to be served to children between eight and ten months of age. At this age, your child’s digestive system has had time to mature, making it easier to accept new foods. By ten months, your child should also be able to sit with support and has probably mastered finger foods. Beans are known to cause gas, and because of this, may be hard for a younger baby’s digestive system to break down. Beans are usually also very small, and can easily be lodged in your child’s throat, causing him or her to choke. [http://canigivemybaby.com/beans/]

My comment was directed at the mum who suggested this pap, beans and plantain mixture for her 3 months old. Yes, beans is great from 9 months, it is certainly not recommended for a 3 month old infant.

And again, it should be peeled and mashed/pureed and feed to a baby with a spoon.

This is just my opinion....the ultimate decision on what to feed your baby is still yours to make.

You want to give your 3 months old beans? God help you o. Beans can make a 6 months old poo to oblivion not to talk of a 3 months old. Its your baby, your choice.

Inasmuch,it is pure and natural...undiluted......banana..orange,lime....its ok. It's a home remedy for me. As a matter,i dont give my kids anything until i've contacted d paed and also our family doctor.

Instead of lime, why not try vitamin C drops for babies. Lime is very acidic can actually erode away the lining of an infant's intestine, cause diarrhoea and digestive problems later in future.

In as much as i advocate natural remedies, we need to consider the age at which these natural remedies are appilcable. lime and lemon can be given to babies of 10-12 months old

Good day blessed mamas,
I need your urgent help, I am a FTM, my 6 weeks old baby girl has been having particles like dandruff on her hair. She is very hairy hence I started seeing lots of tiny white particles on her scalp that. Looks like dandruff. Even wen I wash her hair very well, It still comes up after few hours. I initially was using johnson oil, then was asked to change to ori and coconut oil, but it still persisted. I wash her hair with johnson baby soap. She keeps putting her hand on her head to hair and cry every minutes which makes me feel it itches her.
I will appreciate your urgent advice on wat to use for her scalp.
God bless you guys.

Google cradle cap treatments. It is not dandruff.

Modified** Stop any Johnson's product for now. Try Aveeno or Sebamed.

Thanks @temmy2103 and @onegai its the she strains dat got me desperate, i guess i'll wait it out and take the fruits myself.

Your LO is colicky just like most infants. Do you use hot compress on her tummy?? You can also use your finger tips to gently massage below her belly button in a circular motion. This will help release the gas stuck in her stomach and also help her poop.

Orange juice is a NO..NO unless approved by your paediatrician.

Good evening mamas, pls how do I treat dandruff on my DS head. He's six weeks. Thanks

I don't think babies can have dandruff. It is called cradle cap. What I did for my LO was, pour olive oil on his head, wait 5-10 mins and comb out with a fine tooth comb.

There is a special shampoo for it though.

there is this huge pulsating hole on her head close to her forehead. It wasn't there before.

Every baby has the pulsating soft spot until 18 months. You don't have to worry. As long as it is not bulging or sunken and your baby is striving.

My paediatrician recommended Vitamin D drops for exclusively breastfed babies to promote closure of the soft spot.

. I can't use cow milk From one year never for me even when you Google they say start introducing cow milk from two then you can change fully from three. Then those using complain, complain is a supplement for malnourished children, not for every child it is written boldly use only on doctors prescription and assistance, we should always follow instruction, these children have all their life to drink adult milk, and eat adult food only three years to give them what they deserve is not too much

Fact: babies can digest cow milk from 1 year old.

That is standard all over the World. Whenever you chose to introduce cow milk should be your personal choice.

Please I would like to see a source that says babies shouldn't take cow milk at 1 year old. You must have been reading a formula company's marketing site.

pls what can I give my 16 weeks old daughter for cough?

pls is there any interaction between cough/cough medications and vaccination?

If the cough is accompanied by fever, give paracetamol, lots of fluids ( breast milk) and let your LO breath in steam with drops of eucalyptus oil.

It is caused by the normal common cold virus, no medication is required. Go to your paediatrician if symptoms persist.

Sorry to disturb you but in adding formula to cereal and purees, do I use normal strength .i.e. D normal consistency baby take normally or do I reduce the water thereby getting a thicker milk?

For example, my baby takes 180ml which is 6 scoops of formula. For spoon feeding cereal, I make 120ml (4 scoops) of formula....pour it in his bowl and add enough cereal to get this consistency. Make sure you make the formula in a bottle first, shake it to dissolve properly before pouring in a bowl.

The best way is to make your own everything

Welldone onegai. That's the way to go

You are missing the point. A product meant for babies and it has 90% negative reviews If you are amongst the lucky 10%, take it and run with it.

I was just trying to refute the claim the Johnson's products made in this USA are good while the ones made in Nigeria or South Africa are bad.

Sorry smiley but I think a lot of things attributed to "original product" or not, mistakenly. I bought my Johnson's baby wash in the US (walked into the store myself), my sis went to UK and got the exact type too, her boys had no problem with it and Baby E developed a rash all over her face and neck, spreading to her body. Sensitive skin is sensitive skin, people react differently to everything. "oh this is more original because it was made in so-and-so country" isn't always the case (formulations must be the same, especially with children's products in a better country with legal address to lawsuits like SA, USA and UK).

Let me dust off my Science degree grin Johnson Baby wash has an ingredient called Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLS) which is a cleansing agent but some people find it very drying (ask any girl who has natural hair, they avoid it in their shampoos; which is why most use conditioner to wash hair as SLS is in most shampoos. it will dry out your kid's hair as well). SLS is a popular cleansing agent. Aveeno switched SLS with Sodium Lauroamphoacetate (a milder cleansing agent), which is why it's less drying. That's one of the things that make Aveeno milder, but its not organic. I've seen organic baby wash in Lagos (Pharmacare in Festac and some shops on the island especially in Lekki) have them.

sorry for the long story. @Desiree, you use black soap as laundry detergent and puree fruits? That's interesting, will make a note of it. You sound like a "crunchy" organic mama o, will have to get tips from you smiley

I don't make my own laundry detergent oooo!! Lol I wish I could. You are right abt Aveeno not being natural. I doubt if anything made commercially can be natural because you would have to consider preservatives, PH adjusters and stabilisers, some of which are toxins. Aveeno is the better of the two products.

I make most my baby food actually but I aint crunchy, otherwise I would be cloth diapering and baby wearing. My baby is on the big side. He weighs 8kg at 4 months 1 week. I try to go as organic as I can for this LO.
I get my recipes from here

The Johnson I bought in the USA and the one I bought in South Africa are completely different.

The only thing that was similar was the packaging

That said you are right some babies skin is more sensitive. I used aveeno and had no issues with it and when the aveeno I had ran out I switched to the Johnson I got as part of my baby shower in the USA and had no issues with it

So bought some more when I went to SA and that did not go down well

You might want to read this report from the US or read about it on baby center.com I tried Johnson' s as a first time mum, when I didn't know any better. The result was disastrous.

I also think the Johnsons product in US is different from the ones in Nigeria, I stand to be corrected though

Johnsons products all over the world has lots of parabens which causes allergic reactions in babies. Aveeno is 100% better. Yes, Aveeno is made by Johnsons and Johnsons but it is more natural.

Happy weekend to us all. Pls mamas, how do I know am adding too much milk to my baby's cereal? Have bn hearing ppl say there's nothing like "too much milk" for babies, is it true?
And diy mamas in d house, when making fruit puree for ur lo, do u add milk?
TX house

If you are spoon feeding cereal, add as much milk to get the right consistency. You are right, thr is nothing like too much milk.

I make my own puddings, purees, smoothies. The only things i buy now r just formula and cereal. I'll suggest not adding milk to fruit puree, just let your baby get accustomed to the taste of fresh fruits. You can sometime add milk and bottle feed as smoothie.

I live in the UK and only some white babies here can use Johnson successfully. Their product is full of parabens. I guess you are one of the lucky few whose babies don't react to Johnson. If it works you, stick to it.

Outside Nigeria, they actually teach you that it is safe to lie down and breastfeed. So maybe its the positioning that made the matron say it's wrong, not the lying down.

http://kellymom.com/parenting/parenting-faq/ear-infection-nursing/

I lay down to breast feed mostly at night. It is okay as long as you raise your baby's head up a bit with one hand or use a breast feeding pillow.
