Second African to serve in this leadership position
WINDHOEK, Namibia, 13 May 2017 - Rev. Dr Musa Panti Filibus, Archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), has been elected President of The Lutheran World Federation (LWF). The Twelfth Assembly of the LWF meeting in Windhoek, Namibia, elected Filibus today. He is the 13th person and the second church leader from Africa to hold the office since the LWF was founded in 1947.

Filibus was elected on the first ballot. He received a total of 274 votes out of 303.

Communion is a gift
Addressing the LWF Assembly delegates upon his nomination on 12 May, Filibus said nurturing communion relationships, mission, gender justice, diakonia and addressing human tragedy, youth in the church, and inter-religious relationships for peace and justice are key priorities for him.

“Communion is a gift,” said Filibus, adding that communion building must be nurtured. Building communion must also be done with a sense of ecumenical accountability.”

Filibus, who in his previous work participated in the development of the LWF Gender Justice Policy, says he is committed to its implementation, including addressing, “how to support member churches in understanding and addressing these questions.” He was instrumental in the process leading to the ordination of the first LCCN female pastor in 1996.

Commitment to youth in the life of the church also need to be upheld, he said, and called for the movement of the Global Young Reformers’ Network to be brought to local church levels.

Diakonia, effective and empowering service in response to human suffering, injustice, and emergencies, is a key priority for the LWF. “My dream would be that the LWF remains a relevant and key international diaconal player in addressing human tragedy,” Filibus said.

Two years ago, dioceses in the northeastern region of Nigeria where Filibus comes from, had to suspend church activities in many congregations to avoid attacks by the Boko Haram militant group during worship services. “I see the great need to pay attention to questions of religiously motivated violence in the world today,” he said.

Filibus pointed to growth in churches in the global south and declining church membership in the global north as areas where LWF accompaniment is required. “We have an obligation to listen to one another and support each other in these struggles,” he said. “No church should be left to feel it is alone.”

Experience in the LWF communion
The newly elected president is not new to the work of the LWF communion. From 2002 to 2010, he served as area secretary for Africa in the Department for Mission and Development (DMD), accompanying member churches in Africa in various areas of their ministries. He was appointed DMD director in 2010.

In 2013 he accepted the call to serve as bishop of LCCN’s Mayo Belwa Diocese. He was elected to serve as archbishop of the church in 2016.

Filibus, 57, was ordained as a pastor in 1994. He studied theology in Nigeria and in the United States, where he obtained a PhD in pastoral theology. He and his wife Rev. Ruth Filibus have three adult children.

Newly elected LWF President Archbishop Musa Panti Filibus will succeed Bishop Dr Munib A. Younan of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, who was elected at the July 2010 Eleventh Assembly in Stuttgart, Germany. The first LWF President from Africa was Bishop Josiah Kibira from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania, who served from 1977 until 1984.

Resumption I understand is 8th May, 2017. Check the body of your mail where your offer letter was attached.

ladoshady:
Please has anyone that received the letter recently been advised of a resumption date after acceptance?
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Nirsal And Cbn Recruitment Is Going On by dkby(m): 8:17pm On Apr 27, 2017
Lol@bracket. I see. Thank you for the update. We meet during induction by God's grace.

ladoshady:

No tentative date. Letter reads that upon acceptance or otherwise, the resumption date will be advised. I don't know whether it's for State or regional office as nothing is giving a cue to that on the letter. You may want to inform if the ones you saw had any such pointers on them. Lastly, i stated my position in bracket. re-check my post again. I am hopeful more people will be contacted by God's grace.Thanks.

If you can contact anyone in recruitment dept as regards helping you with the status of your letter, please do not hesitate to do so.
I learnt letters were sent via e-mail on Friday but didn't drop in some mails - at least not to the knowledge of the unit as the mails didnt bounce back so they were assumed to have been delivered.
If you are sure u did well at the interview, you may request that they resend the letter to you for acknowledgement.
I must not fail to inform that i got my letter yesterday (super) after the long wait.
Best of luck.

@Ladoshady thank you for the update and Congratulations for your offer letter. Do you have tentative date for resumption? I know two other peeps that got their offer letters yesterday.

Is your offer for State/regional office? Are you an analyst or Supervisor? There is rumours that NIRSAL wants to start with 12 State offices. Seems to me the letters will come in batches.

You guys know what?.. I think we should stop listening to this guy here called MIDEP... I just thought of something now. I think all he's saying would only kill our faith. Lets think the 3 Hebrew brothers that were thrown into the fire by King Nebuchadnezzar in the Holy Bible. Lets give God the benefit of doubt. Like they said (paraphrased): "O king, we trust that our God will come and rescue us, but even if He doesn't, we're very okay with dying inside the furnace, but bowing to your formed image? No way"... So I'm saying we trust that God will do it, but even if like Midep is trying to claim they wanna delay or even cancel it, it doesn't change anything. We will still believe from now till it really happens. If those guys had given up on hearing they were to be thrown in the fire, they won't have experience the Miracle of not being burnt inside the fire. Do you know the Bible actually stated that not even smoke was smelling on their body when they came out. We're talking about a fire that consumed those who even got close to it to throw them inside... The devil isn't actually powerful, it is just cunning. It doesn't really have the power to change or stop NIRSAL's recruitment, he only would just want us to believe it does, so that we can give up on God. Thats what it does. Do you know it couldn't pluck the fruit from the tree of good and evil for Eve by itself, all it had to do was convince Eve that God was wrong. Come on. Think about it. This has always been its format of making us loose something just when we are about getting it. We now know this format. So there's no need to panic. Just believe. Let God be true, lets all men be a liar.

Well thats for supernatural implications... Let me now go to the reality. Do u know I almost believed the Midep's source story because I felt he was just being realistic. But I just thought of it. The story doesn't match. He said: "due to alot of issues arising from the test". Well last I checked the test was handled fully by Nextzon, until that last interview, everything was handled by Nextzon. Matter of fact, after that last interview the final collation was still handled by nextzon. It was now left for NIRSAL to contact those they want, based on nextzon's report and State quota (they actually intend using federal character from the little I know). The last time I spoke with the lady who often contacted us from Nextzon. She made it clear they were done with every collation and have handed everything to NIRSAL. Question: How is NIRSAL now realizing issues from a test they didn't conduct. Abeg, Midep allow God to use you, don't spread fear and panic...

My people lets stay hopeful and prayerful.

This is very much on point. Assistant Managers and above have collected their offer letters and all was handle by Nextzon to the last stage. Supervisors and Analyst should keep faith. Best wishes to all of us.

Not everyone is cut out for business.
But everyone can save.
.
As an ops staff, I am almost the first to resume work daily and last to leave. Little time for anything else.
I make sure i spend my free time resting. Enough stress during the week/day, last thing I would do is go 'hangout' at COB with Sales people who probably closed at 5pm and have rested enough.
.
If you are a custodian, I beg, spend all your free time resting.
Too many stories of custodians slumping and dying.
.
I am not extravagant, I live within my means, and I save.
.
No loan to tie me down or give me sleepless nights.
.
I aspire. I am hoping to develop myself educationally.
.
And I save some more.
The day the job ends, I don't want a lien on my account due to indebtedness... and I want my savings to carry me on till i get a new job....

Nice one, that is the way to go.

@ dkby, and musco4me, easier said than done.
I can relate with musco4me, because when you change hands frequently, get ready to pay the attendant shortages on the machines.
Caveat emptor.
A word is enough for the wise.

@Smasher1 this is very much practice especially for branch staff (Operations), change of hands comes with thorough hand over ofcourse and the machines MOST balance before taking/handing over in the case of Atm custodians. This is also applicable to other units such as Funds transfer, Customer Service and the rest, you will need to balance the GLs

@Musco4me, From your complain I can guess your bank, if you have 5 Atms to manage, I think you should have an Atm support staff to assist, and for weekend duty, you should have a weekend roaster where all core staff are suppose to rotate duty. Moreso as an Atm custodian you are expected to rotate that role after 6 months, where rotation is not practice, write your H..D for clarification. My2Cents.
