Religion / Why Do We Call Ourselves Christian? by DKNYtruth(m): 10:50pm On Apr 16, 2009 |
"And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. - Acts 11:26."
[li]It just occured to me again recently the fact that, the disciples were first called Christian by paigans; and now it's an household name for every 'cat and dog' that attends any so-called church, while the real sense of the word "disciples of Christ" is lost in so called xtains' life and the gospel is seen as a means of acquiring wealth not discipling. Folks, I don't know of you, but sometimes it's hard to call yourself one (Christian) these days, 'cause you'll have kind of raise more sceptism about yourself more that it would have been imagined before that word escaped out of your mouth! What do you think?[/li] [li][/li]
|

IN MY CANDID OPINION, IT FALLS BACK TO OUR LEADERS WHICH IN TURN ITS OUR FAULT! AN ADAGE IN YORUBA SAYS "YOU CAN FORCE A HORSE TO A RIVER, BUT YOU CAN'T FOR A HORSE TO DRINK". TAKING A CLUE FROM DEVELOPED COUNTRY, IT'S TRUE WE OFTEN REFER TO THE FACT THAT WE JUST GOT INDEPENDENCE, BUT THE LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT THAT HAVE SWEPT THE COUNTRY IS MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR US TO DO WAY WITH SUCH RYTHM! OUR DOOM STARTED IMMEDIATELY WE HAD THE OIL BOOM; IT MADE OUR LEADERS LOOSE A SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY AND GREED GOT THE MOST PART OF THEM. PRIOR TO THAT WE'VE HAD FEW PEOPLE OF CONSCIENCE, I DOUBT IF THAT STILL EXIST! WE HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO WITH THIS MID-SET THAT HAS ENGULFED OUR COUNTRY/AFRICA LIKE WILD FIRE; THE CITIZENS ARE NEITHER LEFT OUT THOUGH, how many of us are sincere in what we do to? LET'S START FROM THERE! and we could BRING THE CHANGE WE OURSELVES CAN BELIEVE! |

TO ME, CHEATING IS CHEATING IN WHATEVER FORM YOU TEND TO DISCRIBE IT; BUT IT BECOMES REAL WHEN YOU TEND TO DWELL IN IT; ASK ANYONE YOU KNOW, WHATEVER SPIRITUAL STATUS YOU HAVE, YOU TEND TO FALL IN TO IT; IT'S THE SYSTEM OF THE WORLD, YOU ONLY GET OUT IF YOU HAVE NOT TRAINED/NATURED YOUR MIND TO IT. YOU CAN LOOK AT A GUY/GIRL BECAUSE YOU'RE ATTRACTED AT THAT MOMENT FOR WHATEVER ATTRACTS YOU AT FIRST; BUT YOU START CHEATING THE MOMENT YOU GIVE YOUR HEART TO THAT PLEASURE-NOTICE SENT TO YOUR BRAIN AT THAT MOMENT; WHICH COULD IN TURN LEAD TO SLEEPING WITH X, PROBABLY FANTASYZING AND THE WORST KILLING TO BE WITH, IF IT'S GETTING TOWARDS THIS LAST STAGE DESCRIBED, YOU'LL DEFINATELY NEED THERAPY (sounds weird, yes, but real), FINALLY, I BELIEVE WE CAN ALL TRIAN OUR MIND WHEN THESE THOUGHTS CREEP IN; THINK OF SOMETHING ELSE THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY; OR SEE THE OTHER PERSON AS A TABOO THAT WILL BE THE LAST THING YOU'LL ENCOUNTER! |

Nairaland / General / Generators' Deadly Effects: How Many Must Die Before Something Is Done? by DKNYtruth(m): 7:10pm On Apr 16, 2009 |
2 CORPSES DISCOVERED IN BARBING SHOP IN LAGOS: Tragedy occurred on Tuesday morning in Sabo area of Ojodu in Lagos State, as residents woke up to discover two corpses of two teenage boys in a shop in the area. The two teenagers, Eze Oruwa, 17and Clement Saturday, 18, were found dead with pairs of boxers pants on them in a hairdressing and barbing saloon at 2, Oremeji Street, Sabo, Ojodu. Residents of the area, however, believed that the boys might have been killed by fumes from a power generating set which was in the shop where the corpses were discovered. Nigerian Tribune learnt that the neighbourhood was thrown into confusion, following th e alarm raised by the shop owner, Mrs. Cecilia Gbadume, that morning. The shop owner had reportedly opened the shop to discover the remains of Eze, who was, until his death, an apprentice barber and Clement, a known friend of Eze. The shop owner, in a statement to the police, said Eze had been working with her for sometime in her shop. |

If Nigeria is a failed state, so what was his business as President for 8 yrs? It's obvious our government won't want things to work, 'cause they know if it does our perception will change and will in turn change our political ideaology. Nigerian system is made to bread low/poverty driven thinkers, that's why someone can prefer to take N100 or more to vote their conscience away to the devil; no deeper thought on how decisions made today affect their grand kids in future; and that's why you could apologise to a uniform man/woman that has gone beyond his/her constitutional limit towards you. Finally, it can't in as much as we have few ones above the law, like Baba Iyabo himself, etc |

Friends, it was so disheartening watching our own Former President on Hard-talk displaying no leadership attitude, I wonder what Obama would have done! but the truth I found from the interviewer is that 'Our System Does Not Work'; and why because our Leaders won't make it work. Our former President highlighted a lot of anti-corruption bodies that his administartion did set up, but the fact remains did it work? No! Asked about the allegation against his daughter and there he sparkled again. This are hard-core truth that I guess we need to engage our leaders; but what happens when someone tries it? NTA guys are fired, AIT is closed, etc, so how can we ever get out of our mess if 'Our System doesn't work'. He said 'although we have oil, but we're too much of a population to enjoy it', comparing Nigeria with Saudi Arabia, what a shame! |

Nairaland / General / Amodu Recalls Okocha To Super Eagles: What Is Happening? by DKNYtruth(m): 8:15pm On Apr 01, 2009 |
EMBATTLED chief coach of the Super Eagles, Shaibu Amodu, has recalled Austin Okocha from retirement following the team's barren draw, recorded against the Mambas of Mozambique in a 2010 World Cup qualifier last Sunday in Maputo. The former coach of Orlando Pirates told Daily Dreamers that the team still needed an experienced player like Okocha, who retired in 2006 to have a sense of direction. "It would have been a different story in Maputo if Okocha had played and let the heavens fall, he's coming back to the team. "In fact, my strategy for the game against Kenya in June will centre on Okocha because of his wealth of experience which no player in the team can match for now," Amodu said. The Edo State-born tactician pointed out that Okocha's presence in Maputo would have rattled their opponents throughout the match and give the Eagles the leeway to score at least a goal. "Don't forget that it was Okocha's magic that gave the Dream Team I a 3-0 victory against Kenya in Mombassa after a draw in Lagos. The Kenyans came to the pitch to watch Okocha and that could have been the case too in Maputo if we had taken him there. "So, Nigerians should start celebration now because no team will survive defeat in Abuja and we are sure of beating Tunisia and Kenya on their home soils now that Jay Jay is back. “He is a magician anyday anytime," said Amodu, who gave the Super Eagles the 2002 World Cup ticket before he asked Bonfrere Jo to lead the team to Korea/Japan. This is April Fool in case you are thinking of crucifying Amodu, lol |

tpia: I agree with the last point but not much of the first pint; it's more of the environment, ethics and what obtained in our system not more of training; even the owner of a store in Nigeria of today (supossed 21st century) can ask you to go out of his or her store, whatever, you know what they say 'get out jo, and let good people with good money come in, how much do you have to spend self'. there's no will whatsoever; nigeria is like a 'devil's playground'; the same conduct you get from police and other law enforcement agents who has seen themselves as 'we (the govt) against them (the citizens)' not as someone there to protect the citizens; the same demeanor is reflected in our politicians; this in turn reflects in various aspect of life from one to the other, you name it, |

Sometimes I wonder if we as Nigerians want a change in our lifestyle and unfavourable systems and condition of life that we have lived with for ages, it's a pity, I remember during Idiagbon (Buhari - figure head) regime, even though it was a military govt. things had shape at least to some remarkable extent; all we Nigerians could do then was shout and complain; we all want a good life like the Oyinbo people, if we are not ready for change to shift away from our comfort zone, nothing will happen, even if God send down Angel to rule NIgeria, |

Following the release of the breakdown of the details of the 2009 budget, Senate yesterday launched into a closed door session where it queried Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, Senator Iyiola Omisore on the allocation of funds for projects in members’ constituencies in the Southwest geo-political zone. THISDAY learnt that the allocation of more funds for constituency projects in favour of Osun State where Omisore comes from at the expense of other states in the zone was one of the issues discussed at the session. A source at the more than one-and-a-half hour long session said that Omisore could not offer convincing explanations to the Senate on the issue. Members were said to have taken their turn to draw the attention of the Senate to specific cases of shoddiness, lopsidedness and unfair deals in the budget as packaged by the Appropriation Committee, harmonised by the Joint Finance Committee and passed by the National Assembly. Omisore, as learnt, rankled his colleagues by allegedly allocating N520 million for projects in his Osun East Senatorial District as against the about N270 million that the district of every other South-west senator got. Although the source did not give the specifics of Omisore’s explanation and/or defence, he said that the Senate leadership came to his assistance by dousing the tension that was brewing on the issue. He said it was agreed that the budget was messed up, but the areas of concerns were overlooked. But Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Information, Senator Ayogu Eze, while briefing Senate Correspondents, said the increase in the allocation to constituency projects in Osun East was because another member decided to throw N250 million out of his allocation to the projects in Osun East. According to him, “You are talking about allocation to Osun State , for instance. When the Executive brought their proposals and during our meetings with them, it was agreed that there would be N60 billion worth of money for constituency projects and it was split N10 billion per geo-political zone. “It was equally split among the states. In the South-east zone and, I give you an example, it was split among the five states. Sometimes, marginalisation can be beneficial because South-east was the only zone that could get N2 billion per state because we are the only one with five states. “In Enugu , for instance, both members of the House of Representatives and Senators decided to put it in the Enugu Airport ( Akanu Ibiam Airport ) Expansion project. That is where we put the money.” Eze said further, “In the case of the South-west, it was split among the National Assembly members and each of them got about N270 million and one of the members took N250 million out of his own money and put in that Osun State, which is what reflected there and some people who were in certain committees thought that an appropriation had flown in through the roof into their committees." Asked the rationale behind a member’s decision to donate his “personal” money to government, Eze said: “It was not his personal money; that is not what I said. That is his own constituency project allocated to him as a Senator. “He got N270 million but he put N250 million. It does not matter where you put it now. The prerogative of the project where you put it belongs to the member of the National Assembly. “That one, nobody restricts you where you put your money. The prerogative of where you put your money now belongs to you. In fact, I can get my own constituency project and put it in Ogun State if I know that there is a project I want to pursue in Ogun State .” MY CONCERN: AT THIS MOMENT, I DON'T KNOW OF WHAT TO THINK ANYMORE, I BET YOU THAT WE DON'T HAVE ANY GOVERNMENT OR SYSTEM IN NIGERIA - THAT IS AN UNDISPUTED FACT. Politics / Pork: Senators Get 60 Billion For Constituency Projects - Where Are We? by DKNYtruth(m): 8:01pm On Mar 26, 2009 |
Pork: Senators Get 60 Billion For Constituency Projects - Where Are We?
