Business / Re: The Scam Called Shoptomydoor.com Dont Use Them!!! by donbusky(m): 10:19pm On Jul 01, 2020
Horrible experience with Shoptomy door. I am regretting using you for the 2nd time even after an unpleasant experience last year. I guess I hoped things would be different this time around.

I made a some purchases and shipped to your Houston warehouse. On trying to checkout I see shipping to Nigeria via Air is over $800 including a surprise $90 inventory charge. I screamed and contacted your Customer Service who said nothing can be done, that it is the cost. The shipping weight is so much higher than the actual weight and I am told that it is because of dimensions of the package to contain all my items.

No problem, I decide to use ocean shipping which will take 2 - 3 months, but cheaper at approximately $400 and proceed to checkout. The site advertises to me beside the Checkout button that I can subscribe and save. If I subscribe at $29 for 1 month (plus 7.5% VAT), I save 10% on all types of shipping. I am intrigued and decide to try this so I stop the checkout and go subscribe. After subscription, I start the checkout process again and surprise, there is no 10% discount applied to my cart.

I called customer care to complain, they say nothing can be done, that the discount will apply to my next shipping. I said no, this is not what your site advertised. It clearly showed at point of checkout that I could subscribe and save (see picture below). At no point did it say that it will not apply to current order. In any case, if the discount wont work no problem, cancel and refund me the subscription. What did they say? No way, subscriptions cannot be canceled.

I spend more than 40 mins on the phone with them across 3 calls, no luck. Each time they promise to review and call back but of course they do not do so. In essence:
1. I have to pay high shipping fees, nothing can be done about it
2. I make payment for subscription, I don't get the discount, nothing can be done about it
3. I ask for a refund of the subscription, I am told no, nothing can be done about it

I did not ask that they review the shipping cost or inventory cost, I did not complain. All I asked for was that they should give the discount as advertised for their subscribers, or if they cannot deliver promised service, they should refund it.

Is Shoptomydoor out to scam people, or do they just not care at all about their customers? What type of shoddy, careless and disrespectful customer service is this? Essentially holding me to ransome because the longer I delay, my goods will start incurring storage costs daily on their site.

This is so sad. I have learnt my lesson the hard way dealing with Shoptomydoor and I will urge everyone else to do their research and be careful. There are tons of negative reviews online, and they are not fabricated, they are real. I have unfortunately experienced it myself.

Hi Annim,

Pls how much was your initial bill for the NICU for 4 days?

After you bargained with them what was your final bill?

I am in similar scenario and your response would greatly help. Thanks.

Annim:

Used WHMC last year Jan and my baby ended up in NICU for 4days. Depends on the number of days she will spend there that will determine the total fees to be paid. Since you are self pay patient, ask for discount when the final bill comes. You can get as much as 40% all depends on your bargaining power. You can also set up a monthly payment plan for a maximum of 24months too but discount will be less if repayment period is long. Pls do not accept medicaid for the baby as this will spoil your chances of going back to the US.
Also ask to speak with the breastfeeding dept. They will give u a pump to assist in getting the milk flow quickly.
God will surely bring her out quickly.

Prado seems to be the most popular in Lagos and even on this thread. Not sure why though - perhaps cheaper to maintain?

Bros we are in the market for the same things. I am looking for Explorer but not 2015, I want the 2012 or 2013, that's what I can afford now.

I currently drive a 2003 Explorer, its very rugged and the most reliable car I have ever used. I have been using my explorer for over 7 years now without any issues, without even opening the engine apart from normal change of oil and tires.

The current versions of Explorer are even better, they have better fuel economy, full tank will take you 10 days, not many saloon cars will get you that not to talk of an suv. Plus, most 2011-15 Ford Explorers have MY FORD Touch, leather interior, Bluetooth, navigational system, voice command, reverse camera etc.

thanks @whizboi19001. Wow, you really like the Explorer and good to know you have hands on experience. I was reading online that the fuel economy of the explorer wasnt as good as the prado so got confused because a friend had told me otherwise, and now you say the same thing.

Do you think though that it has good resale value? Like your current one which you may want to sell if you buy a new one?

Hello,

Please looking for insight from my fellow nairalanders. Of the three 2014 or 2015 cars - ford explorer, prado and pajero, which would you advise purchase, based on:

1. Cost of maintenance & purchase of parts, etc.
2. Fuel efficiency
3. Resale value after 3-5 years
4. Durability on these our Lagos and Nigerian roads

Asides the above, is there anything else one should consider that could also influence choice?

Congrats @Phema. May your son be a constant source of joy to you and hubby. Please I have a few questions concerning the speed of your processing of baby's documents:

How long did it take before you got the BC? Did you expedite it using vitachek? I assume you did not call US passport office until you got the BC, is this correct?

Thanks

The SSN got to my mailbox on the 10th day after delivery. And I got the US and Nigerian passport in my mail within 1 week of applying (mind you I applied on the Friday before thanksgiving and got them on Saturday morning after black friday)[/quote

Hi @dakotchic, thanks for the info. Please I have three questions:
1. how long did it take for you to get the birth certificate?
2. I understand you cannot apply for US passport until you get the birth certificate. Was this the same in your case?
3. While filling the DS11 form, there is a section for emergency contact details and it appears the person should be based in the US. Is this compulsory, or what did you do? What if one does not have any US based contact?

Thanks,

For those travelling in July, how we go do am. I just checked the price of a return ticket from Lagos to Los Angeles, travelling in July and returning in Septetmber. Omo na over N400,000 I dey see for Delta, BA and Emirate. Na only Ethihad and Ethiopian cheap small like 260k and 280k resp.
Please who has any ideas on how to get cheap tickets for July (I'm ready to book and pay for my ticket between now and January).
Has anyone used BA at say 36weeks5days?

If you are travelling in July 2015, it is too early to book then, in my opinion. The sweet spot for best travel prices from personal experience and some limited online research is typically (a) 5 - 8 weeks before travel, and (b) choosing travel days of Tuesday - Thursday.

Cheers.

Thanks lizcom25. Indeed it was smooth for her and I give God all the glory. She says they did not really question her, it felt more like casual conversation and she was done in a few minutes.

No problem Mrsfad2014, when she has settled down and I have more details of the POE experience, I will share.

For those that have travelled or about to travel to el-paso from Lagos, how did you buy your tickets as i am aware there are no direct flights to el-paso from Lagos, please note that we are trying to avoid Houston POE.

Hi moniyet,

My wife is enroute elpaso as I type this, using BA on the route Lagos>Heathrow>Dallas>El Paso. You can book directly on BA site, or check on Wakanow for other options / airlines / routes.

I am praying for divine favour for my madam at the POE (Dallas) in a couple of hours.

Thanks for the response. This el paso waka is just not straightforward.

And wow, that was expensive (for a return ticket for one, I assume). In any case, thank God it was all worth it.

Thanks @ all......

She flew Airfrance from PHC @ 36th week. We bought tickect for N513,000 - 'was really on the high side cuz of summer. The initial itinery was PHC -Paris -Amsterdam - Dallas. However, we were told @ the airport that she couldn't enter (stop-overs o) two EU countries without schengen visa. One can only do one stop-over - we were learners! lols. So they had to re-schedule her itinery to PHC-Paris-Detroit-Dallas and we were made to pay another $200. Detroit was her POE and it was "over smooth". I really doubt if there's a direct flight to El Paso. From Dallas she had the option of flying United Airline to El Paso for $320 with flight duration of 1hr30mins or Delta for $170 with duartion of 6hrs. She opted for United cuz she couldn't sit for another 6hrs after she had already done 16hrs from naija

Congrats @P0rtHarc0urtB0y. May God grant mother and baby good health and safe journey back.

Please what was your wife's itinerary to El Paso? As per, what airline and P.O.E did she use? Also did she book directly to El Paso from Nigeria, or did she have to get the flight to El Paso herself after landing and how was the experience vis a vis cost?

My wife will be travelling in a couple of months to El Paso as well and we are considering options.

Thanks as you reply.

I salute everyone. How have you been? It feels good to be back. I'm glad to see that we're still keeping the essence of this thread alive. I'm also glad to see that the recent misunderstanding has been resolved and everyone has moved on for good.

I would like to humbly address the MIHS mommas who have used or who are currently using MIHS. It has come to my notice that questions on cheap accommodations in MIHS have constantly gone unanswered. People ask these questions because they need urgent answers to them. I would really appreciate it if the MIHS mommas can give the answers that a lot of our people are craving for. A lot of people will be indebted to those who come out with answers to these pressing questions.

I look forward to reading from y'all.

With love,

Hello all,

I am considering purchasing a clean tokunbo car for wifey. We are newly married, no kids yet. I have used camry's exclusively so far so I am partial to toyota cars, however I am willing to listen to advice and consider other options.

My budget is N1.7m total landing cost plus registration. From previous posts here I have seen that inspired_autos seems to be popular, however I sent him a message by commenting on one of his posts, as well as via email from his site. Its been some months now, but I never got a response (inspired, if you read this, please would appreciate your feedback on this topic).

Thanks guys,

Let us exchange ideas. What product or service would you love to have and use via your mobile phone?

Is there a problem or social service that you feel can be met using the phone? For example, all you blackberry users, what other application or service would you love to have and use on your phone (asides the usual facebook, bbm and twitter).

I'm talking something unique to our environment,  to Nigeria.

1. Can one buy a blackberry from alternative sources and have it configured to use BIS (blackberry internet service) by the telephone carriers i.e MTN? Or must one buy the blackberry from them?
