Sorr for your loss man. Fhemmmy is 100% right, don't load anything in a car that is not containerized. I had the same experience a couple of years ago, and I learned from it. Don't listen to whatever anybody may tell you that there's a way to do it and everything will be ok. There's only 2 ways to be safer, cars with goods should go in the container, cars without goods can go by Ro-Ro. However, having a trusted, experienced clearing agent is important too. On your side, before you ship a car, make sure you 've the cash for clearing at hand and send it to your agent soon enough to avoid cash strapped delay. Every minute your car spends in the wharf after being taken out from the ship increases it's chance of being vandalized. When next you want to ship things to Naija, take your time, do your calculations well, spend a few bucks and make some calls. Just make sure that everything is lined up well. |

Poster, your question is too vague. I really don't know what you mean by small and big H. I've never seen a Honda with a small H. Please, go back to the drawing board and get your question lined up so that guys will throw in their 50 Cents if they have any. |

Poster, you didn't give enough information like your profession or hers. Whether you 've talked to her before. Whether both of you lives in the same neighborhood. Whether both of you knows each other. Based on the little information you gave, I will advice you to back off 'cos you 've defeated yourself without trying. |
Romance / Re: Pls Help Me by Dubino(m): 12:06am On Apr 09, 2011 |
Just to ship in my 20 cents poster. Your friend telling her boy friend that she's a virgin isn't the problem. The problem is that she waited a long time before trying to correct herself. Most time people (male and female) starts relationship without thinking it would lead anywhere and therefore reluctant to open up right away. However, as soon as you think your partner seem to be the type you really want, you should start telling the truth and correct your lies if any. On a serious note, tell your friend to tell the guy the truth before getting into marriage with him. It will be less painful to loose a boyfriend than to loose a husband. |

Car Talk / Re: How Can I Economize My Eod Fuel Consumption. Its Killing Me by Dubino(m): 1:43am On Aug 01, 2010 |
There's no magic in there. V6 engine consumes V6 gas while 4 Cyl consumes 4 Cyl gas. If you keep your car mechanically sound,it will give you it's maximum gas efficient. One correction about what you said, you can't measure fuel efficiency by days, you measure by mileage or kilometer. Meanwhile, you can look up your car's gas efficiency in the manual and compare it with what you it actually gives you to make sure you're not worrying yourself for nothing. One bad fueling habit is when people allow their gas tank to go down to almost empty before they fill up. If you drive a car with less than 1/4 gas in the tank, the possibility that dirts from the tank will get into the fuel system will be high and that affects the car's performance. I said it in my advice to somebody before,if you're so gas conscious,4 cyl cars is your best option 'cos no matter how fuel efficient a V6 car is,it can't measure up with a 4 Cyl car. 1 Like |

Is this 05 FX 35 still available for sale? I've interest in buying it. I saw Nigerian plate number on it,is it Nigerian used? Is the 49k original mileage or estimate? |
Autos / Car Names by Dubino(m): 5:07am On Jul 26, 2010 |
I have one big request from fellow Nairalanders that posts topic in the auto section. The name some posters call their posted cars makes it very difficult to really understand what model and sometimes make of those cars. It's even harder for us in abroad 'cos when we want to visit Nigeria, most of us compares car prices in Nigeria against where we are. Sometimes it's better for us to buy car in Nigeria instead of buying and shipping it from where we are. Prices in Nigeria could be a little higher, but it worth it if you don't want to go through the hassles of shipping, clearing and the worst of all,not knowing if the car would be cleared by the time you need it. It has happened to me once and has happened to a lot of others who went through the frustration of not being able to use their cars because it wasn't cleared by the time they are Nigeria and their budget may not allow them to buy another car in Nigeria. My point is to kindly ask cars posters to please do their best to use car's real make and model in their postings. To avoid names like, Babyface, First lady, Bulldog, Hal la, End of discussion, Discussion continues, etc. Again,I noticed that some posters calls all the Suva, JEEP. JEEP is not a general name for Suva, but a make and trade mark of Chrysler LLC. This is 21st century, whatever we post here is not for Nigerians only, but for the whole world, so let's make it more standard. |
Car Talk / Re: New Cars Vs Tokunbo Cars In Nigeria by Dubino(m): 4:06am On Jul 26, 2010 |
To ship in my fifty cents as regards to Erico2k2's question about TROPICALIZATION in cars. Actually, there are not much difference in cars built for different parts of the world. However, there are difference in maintenance and parts used. For example,in part of the US where I live,we don't use water as coolant in the radiator,we use anti-freeze cos water in the radiator will turn to ice block in the winter time. Again,we use winter tires in winter for better grip. Summer tires in summer for good ride and better gas mileage. You can't driver a car without heater in winter. There's the windshield defogger. There's heater and heated seat. Underbody coating to prevent rust from snow melting salt. Sometime at the tail end of fall,we normally go for servicing they call winterization. Again ,most diesel engines here usually have plug in charger where you plug it to power outlet(110v/120v) to keep the engine and components warm when parked in winter. All I said are tropical maintenance which are not necessary in Nigeria. So don't expect to see heater and heated seat, windshield defogger, navigation system in a car assembled in Nigeria. On the topic of new and used cars, Honestly, there's nothing as sweet as "tear rubber" with the new car smell. However,as somebody has said, cars depreciates in value every minute and according to Consumer Report here, new cars depreciates fastest in their first 3 years, over 30% in most makes. It does make economic sense to buy brand new late model e.g, one 'll save a fortune by buying a brand new 2009 model now and still enjoy new car smell, comfort and reliability. Also, buying a certified pre-owned with dealer's 150 points inspection, 'll leave a chunk of change in one's pocket. Generally,a gently used car especially in a country with good roads 'll give you back double the money's worth in service if you keep to manufacturer's required maintenance. To me,a gently used car makes more economic sense than a new car. |
Car Talk / Re: World's Cheapest Car by Dubino(m): 2:57am On Jul 22, 2010 |
Everybody's idea on this topic is good. However,I've to say it that the Indians are really trying and competing seriously with the super powers. I am not an Indian, but I'm proud of them for thinking differently. No country will be technologically advanced without opting to follow the band wagon. Japanese did it, you and I are witnesses where they are today on technology. South Koreans did it just about 20 years ago. Today,Koreans are among the top car producing countries in the world. We can't go anywhere if we keep criticizing without offering any solution. I mean Tata Nano is the not the best car in the world, but it's a very big step in the right direction. Some of our brothers are talking about the Nano flying off the bridge. They forget to understand that Nano is not built to run from Lagos to Onitsha. It's built for local driving, from your house to your shop, drive to church on sunday, go for shopping and also for stop-by for "NKWOBI, AZU-NDU, ISI-EWU" and a couple of cold beer. So brethren, let's understand that we can live better if we cut down on waste,if we identify our needs from our wants and if we can sometimes do it ourselves and most of all, be PATRIOTIC. |
Car Talk / Re: Honda Accord 2008 Vs Infinitifx 35 2005 ? by Dubino(m): 1:39am On Jul 22, 2010 |
It depends on what you mean by which one is better. Both vehicles are good and has good dependable records. However, there're a couple of things you need to be aware of before you decide. 1) The cost of each of them. 2)The mileage 3)The usage (every day vehicle or occasional/weekend) 4)Your area This is not all,but let me break my points down. How much you're ready to spend will determine which of them you can buy in the condition you want. Then, their mileage is another factor to consider.Which of this vehicles has lower mileage 'cos the one with lower mileage tends to perform better. How you want to use the vehicle? If you want it as everyday vehicle, I'll advice you to go for Honda Accord. Accord will be a lot better on gas for everyday use and will also cost less for maintenance. However,if you're the kind of guy that shows off, FX is the gig if you don't worry about gas price and the cost of maintenance and parts. FX is a real fun machine to drive in terms of performance ,agility, elegance and handling. I have one and I love it to death. FX also has more ground clearance than Accord,so if you're going to be driving on rough road most time,FX is better. FX has more leg, head, trunk and interior room than Accord. Finally,FX commands more respect. Overall, cost of buying and keeping Accord for about 3 years will be a lot lower than FX. My advice is, if you're cost conscious and want to keep it as low as possible,Accord is your best choice. But if you're ready to spend a little more for comfort and respect,FX is the way. GOOD LUCK! |

Jnze, Thank you so much for hitting the nail on the head. To tell you the truth, issue of a trustworthy person to run it for me is another big worry for me. I've a trusted brother though, but he is not too familiar with transportation business. Again,I am thinking about scaling down on my start up and see how it goes, before investing more on it. |

Pinpin, I found it very difficult to figure out what's your problem. You mailed me asking for a payment plan and I promised you that, but you didn't price up to the selling price. Since then, you're trying to stop others from buying the car. You're calling the car a salvaged car because it has a minor fender bender which was perfectly repaired in US by the owner's insurance. If the car has ever been salvaged, you'll see it in the history report. Now you're crying about the car's Lagos picture, I've asked them to take some pictures and forward to me, I'll post it as soon as I get it. If I've something to hide, why would I ask you to go see it with your eyes and test drive it too. Well, I don't know what's your problem, but if you tell me, I may try to help, but if not it's up to you. |

Chika98, do not go ballistic simply because I told you the truth. Do not say I should not grill you 'cos you're the one that jumped into my toaster, ok. Just calm down and stop making fun of yourself with those slangs you don't know their meaning. You're not talking to me alone, you're talking to the whole world, just want to remind you. When next you write, choose your words carefully. Looks like you've to do some work too on your temperament, it's way above the boiling point. Slow down little sister, you still got to grow up and face the reality of life, then you may figure out that it takes a lot more than ''RETARDED TRAP, LOW BLOWS, BUNCH OF AIRHEADS and FLYING FUCKERY'' to get a devoted man. May be you 'll expect a devoted man to hang on when you talk to him like this, wow! |
Business / Re: How Can One Get A Us Phone Number. by Dubino(m): 5:48pm On Nov 08, 2009 |
Poster, it depends on what you want to do with US number in Nigeria. It's not a big deal getting one, but the big deal is paying the service charge on the number. I can get you one for little or nothing, you only need to pay for shipping it from US to Nigeria. The bad side is that the per minute service charge could be as high as $1 to $2 per minute (incoming and outgoing calls). That's the kind of number I use anytime I visit Nigeria to make sure I stays in contact with my partners in US. There're also world numbers too (which you can use anywhere in the world), as I said before, it depends on why you want them 'cos the per minute charge is on the high side. Some goes as high as $3 TO $10 per minute. So,if you think you can handle the bill, get back to me at el_dubino@yahoo.com and I'll package one for you. |

Chika98, it looks like you're in Nigeria and you don't know what's going on abroad in this world economic hard time. Things 're very tough now, everybody is hurting and nobody is talking about vacation. The last thing a good, loving and caring woman will do is to drive her man away from the house. I've a girlfriend and we have our ups and downs but she never tried to kick me out. Lets face the fact, would you run away from your house for a simple argument? I mean your house not his. In as much as women needs to be pet, men needs that too. You who doesn't have self esteem issues, do not work on nothing, but with your attitude and reasoning, to get a devoted guy, you might need to do a lot more work than me. |
