Nairaland / General / Re: The Twin Evils Of Federal Character And Zoning. by duvaale: 7:04pm On Nov 23, 2010
@ Pharoh

I agree completely with you. Most proponents of zoning in the ruling party are bunch of opportunists. Nigerians will accept zoning if it is well defined and enshrined in the constitution. The present calls for zoning between the North and South is not enough - what is the assurance that one zone in the north or south will marginalise the rest. Rather we should be talking about ZONING BETWEEN THE SIX GEOPOLITICAL ZONES. I believe that each zone is capable of producing a good candidate for presidency. There is nothing like a gentleman's agreement in this matter because such agreement is not binding on all other political parties. The constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria did not stipulate that all political parties must nominate a northerner as their presidential candidate for the next general elections. Until that is done, Nigerians cannot guarantee that the next president that will emerge from 2011 elections must come from the north.
Family / My Housemaid Has Been Ordered By My Wife Not To Communicate With Me by duvaale: 4:31pm On Nov 17, 2010
For obvious reasons, there is an unwritten law in my house that my housemaid has no access to me whatsoever. I can only communicate her through my wife.

For about one year or so now, I haven't had any reason to question this arrangement. Afterall, she does the home chores very well and any assistance I need has always been taken care of. But an incident that happened few days ago has thrown my home into confusion. I closed work early on this fateful day and got home at about 5:00 PM. My wife, who was away, came in at about 8:30 PM. She told me shortly after that our two year old son almost swallowed a sharp metal object and that it took a timely intervention of our housemaid to help the young boy throw up the object. I thanked God for His marvelous works in protecting the child and thereafter queried why I was not informed of the incident since I was home for over three hours before my wife's arrival. To my astonishment, my wife told me that my housemaid is not authorised to communicate me because the accident was averted. I consider this a direct affront to my position as the head of the family. As the father of the house, I should be on top of every HEALTH/SECURITY issue in the family. Therefore, I think it's completely unacceptable to deny me any vital information regarding the health or security of my child. I need your candid opinion and advice on this matter.

Politics / Re: Inec To Rely On Iwu’s Voter Register In 2011 by duvaale: 1:44pm On Jul 21, 2010
Is there any room in this our democracy for Nigerians to say their mind on any national issue? There seem none. It is very obvious, given the recent experience of voters in Anambra and Ekiti states that there is urgent need for a fresh voters register. Even if the current voters register has not been manipulated by Inec and politicians, there is still need to register people who were below 18 yrs during the last registration exercise as well as those who has either relocated or lost their voters card. Comments like this from Inec is a direct affront on the sensibility of Nigerians.

@ Roliks09

I agree with you. The issue is that most people are myopic.  Can these GO's prove that they can amass all the wealth they brandish today working in their own establishment? Simply, the wealth they showcase is people's sweat - majority of who cannot afford the cost of basic living conditions.

They will threaten their congregation to pay their tithes failure for which they risk the wrath of God. When the tithes enters their coffers it is no longer anybody's business how the money is spent. Do not be fooled. Our God is a God of accountability!. God cannot force people to pay their hard earned income to one man without caring to know what happens to the funds.

I don't know any community in this country where there are no needy children or old people.
You wouldn't know how much help you will be by giving out few exercise books, pen and
pencil to those indigent children. Look at the primary school children going to school on rags
(and they abound in every community). I would rather use my tithe to help them than give it
to a certain "MAN OF GOD"

Sports / President Goodluck Jonathan Suspends Nigerian Football National Team by duvaale: 4:22pm On Jun 30, 2010
Nigeria's president has suspended his nation's football team from international competition for two years after a poor showing at the World Cup.

Special presidential adviser Ima Niboro told reporters the decision by Goodluck Jonathan will "enable Nigeria to reorganise its football".

The BBC understands the Nigerian Football Federation is to be dissolved and an interim board appointed.

Nigeria were knocked out in the group stages without winning a game.

Niboro said: "This directive became necessary following Nigeria's poor performance in the ongoing World Cup.

Under Fifa rules, government interference with national teams is strictly forbidden.

Politics / Re: The Best Solution To Nigeria's Power Problem by duvaale: 7:48pm On Jun 26, 2010
@paddy_lo

I totally agree with you on the issue of privatising power generation and distribution but of equal significance is the issue of decentralising power generation. Every state in Nigeria has the capacity to generate power to, at least, meet part of her local demand. If they choose to do so through private initiative, it's all well and good. Most states in Nigeria you'll agree with me, does not produce even 1MW of electricity and it's dangerous for their security. Just one act of sabotage and the whole state could be plunged into darkness. No serious nation in this modern time depends of few power plants (however large) to meet her power needs. China, I understand has hundreds of coal power plants scattered in various parts of the country.
Politics / Re: The Best Solution To Nigeria's Power Problem by duvaale: 7:00pm On Jun 26, 2010
"The problem with the above is that states like Lagos probably need close to 3000MW

another problem is finance. . .Globally it costs about $1million to produce 1MW

so 200MW would be about $200million. . which is N30billion

a lot of poor states probably coudnt afford it. .
third would be transmission lines, need to be constructed. .and probably more gas pipelines too. . .

But at least u are trying to come up with a solution so i salute u"

Yes, I realise that states like Lagos will certainly need much more than 3000MW. But if all the states
can generate 200MW, you 'll agree with me that Nigeria would have trippled her current power
generation capacity.
Politics / The Best Solution To Nigeria's Power Problem by duvaale: 6:45pm On Jun 26, 2010
The solution to our power problem is not far fetched. Each state of the federation (Including Abuja) in corroboration with their local governments should be compelled to build at least a 200 MW power station to supply power to her towns and cities within the next two years.
The states can choose to generate their power with any of diesel, coal, gas, solar, river dams etc. Any state that  fails to comply should be disconnected from the national grid. Multiple power generating stations spread across the country is also very vital to our national security as the failure of any power station cannot plunge even  a single state into darkness. Every state has the capacity to actualise this project given the enormous sums the states and local governments collect monthly from the federation account as monthly allocation. 200 MW multiplied by 36 will give the country at least 7,200 MW. I think we can build from there.

Sports / Re: Adidas Jabulani: The Controversial World Cup Ball by duvaale: 12:11pm On Jun 17, 2010
"I think it's the best world cup ball ever. Is there ever a new ball players especially goalkeepers dont complain about?"

For your information, this is the first time football will be an issue at the world cup finals. Truth is that the ball has been changed in the past, but because the manufactures had done a good job, no one did complain. The fundamental thing here is that the Jabulani Ball is much lighter than previous balls, hence it is much more difficult to control. When a footballer meets a ball in the field of play, he does loads of computations on what to do with the ball; his brain tells him he will be kicking a ball of a specific weight - not a baloon or a large ball-bearing. Imagine being invited to a dinner and served with a large soup spoon instead of the normal table spoon to eat. These players has long adjusted to the weight and flight movement of the older balls.

Fifa themselves has acknowledged that high altitude is affecting the ball's trajectory. And one is tempted to ask; is this the first time the world cup will be played in a high altitude? Take a look at all the diagonal crosses/long passes at this world cup. Is it just a coincidence (or has most players suddenly lost form) that over 70% of the time, players cannot control them - the ball bounces and outpaces the players. Complaints about this ball began several months ago, before the commencement of the world cup. A responsible football governing body wouldn't have approved the ball for use in South Africa.
