Jackie Aygemang Appiah (born 5 December 1983) is a Canadian-born Ghanaian actress. For her work as an actress, she has received several awards and nominations, including the awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2010 Africa Movie Academy Awards; and Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2007. She received two nominations for Best Actress in a Leading Role and Best Upcoming Actress at the Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2008.

Appiah was already known to Nollywood through her many successful Ghanaian films including Beyoncé – The President Daughter, Princess Tyra, Passion of the Soul, Pretty Queen, The Prince’s Bride, The King is Mine and The Perfect Picture. Her notable Nollywood films include Black Soul and Bitter Blessing, alongside Nollywood actor Ramsey Noah and My Last Wedding, alongside Nollywood actor Emeka Ike.

An 80-year-old lawyer and businessman, Shehu Othman Malami, has lamented the level of corruption in the country.
He said Nigeria’s greatest problem is that leaders will not stop embezzling public money.

Malami commended what the present administration is doing to recover stolen funds and called for judicious use of the money for benefit of Nigerians.

He said, “My worry is the level corruption has reached in the country.

“It is alarming and disturbing. Unfortunately , it is now the norm in Nigeria for people in authority to embezzle our collective money.

“Today, what they recover as stolen funds and properties are frightening, whereas, descript is the state of infrastructure nationwide.

“I commend what the present administration is doing to recover stolen money and I wish that recovered money would be committed to judicious use, for the benefit of coming generations.

“For agitators, especially the youth, who probably have never experienced war but are now fanning its embers and singing war song, I hope they will reason and see the unity in our diversity as a nation because war is not what anybody should toy with.”

The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has spoken again on the raging tithe controversy sparked by controversial On-Air-Personality, Daddy freeze.

This time he said God himself convinced him that tithing was right for Christians.

Recall that in a previous reaction to the tithing controversy, Adeboye warned Christians against the dangers of non- compliance to paying of tithe.

However, the cleric, on Sunday, 3rd December, 2017 edition of his Daily Devotional, titled: “Open Heavens”, said the command to pay tithes on one’s earnings simply places a demand on the Christian to trust God.

Writing on the topic, ‘Tithing Is Trusting’, Adeboye said: “To experience exploits in your life, you must have a personal relationship with God. You must believe that He lives and love Him with all your heart. You must also learn to trust in Him.

“The command to pay tithes on your earnings simply places a demand on you to trust God. Your response to this command shows the level of trust you have in Him.
“If you can pay your tithes correctly, it shows that you trust God for your livelihood, but if you find it difficult to be faithful in doing this, it simply shows that you trust more in your earning than in God to sustain you.

“After I became newly born again and we were taught to pay tithes, I laughed and said in my mind, ‘These people do not know that I am a mathematician. If 100% is not enough for me, how can 90% be enough after I have paid 10% as tithe? Thank you very much! Even though these people are not educated, they still want to use their smartness to take 10% of my income from me. Let them try and take it’.

“However, down the line, God convinced me by Himself and I observed remarkable changes in my life.”

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, Thursday, presented before the members of the state House of Assembly a draft budget of N166.9 billion for tge 2018 fiscal year.

Obiano said the 2018 budget entitled “Budget for Value-for-Money, Economic Diversification and Job Creation” would create jobs and also boost the state’s economy.

He said Job Creation was number three in his 2018 fiscal year with a view to ensuring that Anambra tackled unemployment, underemployment and more importantly, provide a means of livelihood for the poor and vulnerable.

The governor told the lawmakers that the budget size represented a 43 per cent increase over the current year’s budget which stood atN115.5 billion and tagged “Budget of Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth.”

He said the estimate illustrates his administration’s resolve to continue to deliver the dividends of good governance to the people of Anambra.

The governor, while analyzing the budget, said the Value-for-Money entails that the state would “carefully assess all activities and make difficult trade-offs to ensure we focus solely on implementing projects and programs that provide commensurate value to Ndi Anambra.

“The underlying principle going forward shall be “Doing Even More with Less” and zero tolerance for corruption and corrupt practices.”

On ‘Economic Diversification’ Obiano added that his administration would ensure that Anambra attains fiscal independence over the next four years through her internally generated revenues, which he believed should cover “our recurrent expenditure with the balance to support capital interventions. We hope to aggressively embark on public finance reforms to optimize and strengthen our tax administration processes”.

“Strategic Collaborations: Fourthly, we hope to develop stronger ties with the Federal Government MDAs and key Development Partners (such as the World Bank, European Union, United Nations System, etc.) to jointly intervene in Social Investments, Works & Infrastructure, Education, Healthcare and Environment sectors of our economy. To achieve this, we have aligned this budget to the National Economic Recovery & Growth Plan and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.

“Public-Private-Partnerships: And finally,our fifth target outcome will be to strengthen and refocus our Public-Private-Partnership Strategy. Significant resources will be channelled towards targeted promotional processes to attract large scale export-driven investments across our key economic pillars in the State”.

A breakdown of the budget showed that in the next fiscal year, it shall be funded by the state Internally Generated Revenues projected at N2.5bn monthly compared with the current run rate of N1.35bn monthly as claimed by Governor Obiano, as well as through grants and counterpart funds estimated at N20bn; other capital receipts comprising of concessionary debt financing for the state social sectors estimated at N18.4bn.

Similarly, the state expects to receive Reimbursements and Refunds from Federal Government for works done on Federal roads and Paris Club payments estimated at N28bn of the 43.8bn owed to the State; while personnel costs such as workers remuneration, replacement of retired teachers, promotions and appointments were estimated at N21.6bn vs. 2017E of N20.4bn.

It also showed that the state expects to spend N63.9bn on Recurrent Expenditure and N103.1bn on Capital Expenditure.

It shows N27.93bn would be spent on Roads & Infrastructure comprising completion of 150km of roads across the state, road constructions, rehabilitation, bridges construction, installation of Traffic Lights on strategic roads and others.

Other sectors of the state economy also got significant budget proposal from the estimate.

The state also budgeted N7.5bn for Community Social Development Program, and others.

The governor scored himself high on the implementation of the budget of the passing year, saying that he was able to meet the budget proposal and promised to do better in the coming year.

Earlier commending the governor, the Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Rita Maguagwu, said that a good number of items budgeted for in 2017 running estimate was accomplished, and promised to give accelerating hearing on it to fast track its passage.

Determined to win the 2018 governorship poll in Ekiti State, the All Progressives Congress(APC), has vowed to use every legal and constitutional strategies to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the coming election.

The party said it has exhausted its patience and could not afford to wait for another four years in the fringe, allowing the state Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose the freewill to continue to dominate the state’s political space.

The State Acting Chairman of the party, Mrs Kemi Olaleye, said this in Ado Ekiti during a visit of the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Correspondents’ Chapel, led by its Chairman, Sam Nwaoko to the APC’s State Working Committee members.

Olaleye said the party will put its house in order and connect with all the critical stakeholders like the artisans, teachers, market men and women and political and opinion leaders to make the dream a reality.

“We are determined to win the coming election. We will use every legal and constitutional means, adopt the right strategy to win the July 14 governorship election.

“We can’t wait in the fringe for another four years. One year is too long a year to be wasted in the life of a politician , let alone
another four years.

“We know that the coming year, I mean 2018 will be challenging for the SWC, because our governorship aspirants will play and do their own things, the State government too but we shall overcome.

“The essence of being elected is to manage our party, make it strong to be able to win election and that we are doing and by the grace of God we shall emerge victorious in the next election”, she said.

Olaleye , who praised the Correspondents for being apolitical and fair in their reportage, advised media practitioners to always allow the opposition to its say about how the people are being governed.

“APC is not a party that can muzzle opposition. You were in this State when our party was in the saddle, we never did anything that can put you in a dangerous situation, so we are assuring you that our party will continue to accord you respect.

“God has placed you in a vantage position that allows you right about the rights and the wrongs in the society. In the cause of doing your jobs, there is no way you won’t ruffle feathers with the politicians and politicians being what they are would like to react violently .

“But don’t allow our reactions to stop you from doing what is right and just if that will bring the needed changes to our society”, she said.

Nwaoko assured the party that media practitioners in the state shall continually embrace the principle of fairness to all parties as the 2018 governorship poll gathers momentum.

The Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel advised the party to be receptive to criticisms from the media, saying ; “this remains the only way the country can get it right in all facets”.

Troops of 202 Battalion of 21 Brigade Nigerian Army in Conjunction with elements of Mobile Strike Teams (MSTs) on Operations LAFIYA DOLE, in furtherance of clearance and blockade Operation DEEP PUNCH 2, cleared Boko Haram terrorists’ enclaves in Abusuriwa, Newchina, Bonzon, Usmanari, Goyayeri, Shitimari, Gashimari, Awaram amongst other villages in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

A statement from Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, Director Army Public Relations saId, the troops whose continuous resolve in routing out the remnants of the suspected terrorists hibernating within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility ensured that their superior fire power made the terrorists to flee in disarray, leading to the capture of one suspected terrorist, while 8 of the Boko Haram terrorists were neutralized.

“The gallant troops were also able to recover 4 AK-47 Rifles, 3 Magazines, 7 Dane guns and Machetes, amongst other items.

“In addition, the troops also rescued 3 men, 12 women as well as 15 Children, among whom were an aged man and a woman held captives by the Boko Haram terrorists.

“The suspected terrorist has been handed over to the relevant authorities for further interrogation, while the rescued civilian captives are being attended to.” The statement said.

Similarly, troops of 152 Battalion of the Brigade deployed as a blocking force at the Foward Operations Base Kumshe to aid a successful clearance operation, ambushed some fleeing unsuspecting Boko Haram terrorists and neutralized 5 of the.

Also, troops of the 151 Battalion deployed at the Forward Operations Base, Darel Jamel, neutralized a terrorist in an ambush.
