Politics / How Yar’adua’s Spokesman, Adeniyi Was Denied Access Into Aso Rock by Ebisco02: 10:44pm On Nov 16, 2017
Olusegun Adeniyi, former spokesperson to late President Umaru Yar’Adua, was on Thursday denied access into the Presidential Villa, Abuja for a book launch on President Muhammadu Buhari.

Adeniyi, who claimed to have been invited for the event by Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu explained that he was turned back from the villa for not presenting his invitation card.

In a post via his Twitter handle, the Chairman of ThisDay newspaper editorial board said he misplaced his invitation card.

Adeniyi said though he was recognised at the Villa gate, one of the security men insisted that he be turned back for not presenting his “IV.”

“Garba Shehu invited me for book launch at Villa. Misplaced IV. Got to villa, recognised by security men but one insisted I couldn’t go on. Real Shame. Going back,” he wrote.

Sports / Argentina Vs Nigeria: Enyeama Speaks On Super Eagles’ 4-2 Win by Ebisco02: 1:02pm On Nov 15, 2017
Lille OSC goal-keeper, Vincent Enyeama has praised the Super Eagles performance in 2017.

Nigeria rounded off a great performance in 2017 with a stunning 4-2 victory over stars studded Argentine side in a friendly in Krasnodar, Russia on Tuesday.

Gernot Rohr’s men came from 2-0 down to thrash Argentina 4-2 on the back of a brilliant Alex Iwobi brace and further strikes from Kelechi Iheanacho and debuting left-back Bryan Idowu.

The former Nigeria’s number one goalkeeper quit the team in 2015 after falling out with then head coach Sunday Oliseh.

There have been, however, loud calls for him to return for next year’s World Cup.

Enyeama expresses his excitement over the present team’s performances.

He wrote after the game against Albicelestes, “What a way to end 2017. Proud of @NGSuperEagles as a proud naija soccer supporter. Standing ovation, hat off and bravoooo.”

The Super Eagles qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia without losing a single game.

Politics / Okorocha Speaks On Spending N1bn On Zuma, Johnson-sirleaf’s Statues by Ebisco02: 11:23pm On Nov 14, 2017
The Imo State government has responded to the call by a human rights group, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, demanding the probe of Governor Rochas Okorocha over the statues erected in honour of two African leaders, Jacob Zuma and Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

SERAP had called on the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC to collaborate with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for a joint investigation of ‘incompatibility and/or apparent and conflict of interest’.

The group had claimed that Governor Rochas “may have spent over ‘N1 billion’ of public funds to build the statues.”

However, in a statement by the chief press secretary to the governor, Sam Onwuemeodo, on Tuesday, the government said the state agreed with SERAP’s call for probe.

“First, we want to solemnly subscribe to SERAP’s call for probe. We welcome the call. Our only concern is that SERAP contradicted itself by also passing judgements. It would have stopped at the call for probe to show they meant well. But they went ahead to pass judgements and thereby jeopardising what should have been their innocent call for probe,” the statement read.

“SERAP also said the statues might have cost N1 billion. Then, how would SERAP address the issue of cost again if at the end of the probes, the amount is either far higher or far below what they quoted?” he said.

“Again, what if at the end of the probe, it is discovered that the statues were not funded from government’s purse, when SERAP had already talked about ‘apparent misuse of public resources’?” he added.

“Our concern too is that people deliberately tell unfounded lies. A week ago, all the newspapers had reports on states owing salaries and the chairman of the Imo State branch of NLC, Comrade Austin Chilakpa said the “State government is up to date in the payment of workers’ salary” (see Nation newspaper, Sunday November 5, 2017, pg13). In other words, the state does not owe workers including teachers. On the issue of pension, the government cleared all the arrears in December 2016 and has begun to pay monthly. These pieces of information have been there in public domain”, the statement said.

Education / JAMB Reveals When Forms For 2019 Exam Will Be Out by Ebisco02: 9:22pm On Nov 08, 2017
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has assured that the conduct of the 2019 examination will be better.

He also announced that registration for the exams would commence before the end of November, urging prospective candidates to visit the board’s website, download JAMB app, syllabus and brochures.

He said these during an interactive session with CTB owners from across the country.

The parley held at Yaba College of Technology on Wedensday.

Oloyede said: “We have learnt some lessons from the last year’s experience and therefore introduced some measures that will further add to the integrity of the registration process and the conduct of the examination.

“Four example, we discovered last year and this year that some electronic devices such as Pens, wrist watches, were used to perpetrate exam malpractices.

“We are also going to introduce some detective devices to ensure that those who plan to cheat inside the examination halls are frustrated.

“We willl not rest ourselves. As they are planning, we are also planning not allow them to play any old tricks. We know they will come up with new tricks but we will outwit them”/

Oloyede disclosed that the 71 CBT centers found to be culpable during the last exercise were either suspended or banned, with the board prosecuting some albeit with grievous offences.

Oloyede said the board would henceforth install electric jammers and lens detectors at every CBT to neutralise gadgets candidates may have sneaked into the hall.

He said the board has already registered 617 CBT Centers nationwide, noting that the board is still considering about 50 pending applications.

Oloyede added that each centre will be equipped with 250 computers with additional 25 as back ups.

Health / Snakes Kill 91 In Gombe, Plateau by Ebisco02: 9:42am On Nov 08, 2017
No fewer than ninety-one victims of snakebite have died in the last three weeks in Plateau and Gombe states, following an acute scarcity of snake anti-venom drugs in the country.

The figure represents the number of confirmed deaths from three snake treatment centres — General Hospital, Kaltungo, Ali Mega Pharmacy, Gombe and Comprehensive Medical Centre, Zamko, Plateau State.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria, who visited the three medical outfits, met other victims in critical situations, with some of them left on bare floors as the doctors said they were helpless without the anti-venom.

NAN reports that the snake anti-venom drugs — Echitab Plus ICP polyvalent and Echitab G monovalent — had not been supplied to the country since August, throwing the treatment centres into crisis after the last vials were used up in the first week of October.

Echitab Plus ICP, produced at Instituto Clodomiro Picado, University of Costa Rica, treats bites from all venomous snakes in Nigeria, while Echitab G, produced by Micropharm Ltd., United Kingdom, is solely for carpet viper bites.

Medics, who spoke with NAN at the three treatment centres, said that the cases of snakebites were usually very common during the harvest season.

“We receive an average of 50 victims every day. Some arrive here in very critical conditions and we just have to watch them die because we are helpless,” the Managing Director, Aliyu Mega Pharmacy, Abubakar Aliyu, told NAN in Gombe.

He said that more than 70 victims had died in the last three weeks following the lack of anti-venom to treat them, adding that some came from Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Borno and Plateau states.

“An average of six deaths is recorded daily. If you go to the snake treatment centre at the Kaltungo General Hospital, you will pity the victims; the lucky ones among them get supportive treatment, while many are left to fate since the drugs are not available.

“Between August and October, we received 750 victims. We were given 700 vials of the anti-venom on August 31, but we exhausted them before October. Many people are just dying. It is a major crisis,” he stated.

Aliyu said that the only available drug — Indian anti-venom — was not as effective in the treatment of the bites from carpet vipers, the commonest poisonous snakes in the country.

“We have tried the Indian anti-venom, but it does not elicit much response. Sometimes, we give six vials and more to a patient, but the effect will be minimal. If we had Echitab drugs, one dose is enough to cure a patient,” he said.

The pharmacist urged the Federal Government to promptly step in to assist Echitab Study Group, the outfit coordinating the supply and distribution of the Echitab drugs, so as to make them available.

The Snake Treatment Centre at the Kaltungo General Hospital, Gombe State, equally presented a sorry sight with hapless patients gasping for breath while the medics watched helplessly.

The Snakebite Treatment Officer, Dr. Abubakar Ballah, told NAN that the situation was “sad and scary.”

“We have a serious crisis here. In the last one week, 139 patients were admitted with 77 absconding when we appeared helpless, owing to the non-availability of the anti-snake venom drug.

“Some were unconscious when they were brought here. Sometimes, it is corpses that are brought to us.

“In the last few days, we have recorded 21 deaths. The figure is more because many of those that absconded were in bad shape; many others did not even bother to come here because of the fore-knowledge of lack of anti-venom in the centre.

“The last drug was used on October 13. We try to give vitamin K to the victims to enhance blood clotting in the absence of anti-venom because bites from the viper snakes cause bleeding, which is difficult to control without anti-venom.

“Already, some criminals are faking the drug and selling it at N43,000 per vial, contrary to the original anti-snake venom sold by the Echitab Study Group at the cost of between N13,500 and N30,000.”

Crime / Fulani Herdsmen Cry To Buhari Over Ban On Open Grazing In Benue by Ebisco02: 10:33am On Nov 06, 2017
The Cattle Breeders in Nasarawa State have called on the Federal Government to urgently intervene and prevent a looming crisis following the open grazing ban by the Benue State government.

The Nasarawa state chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) said the enforcement of the open grazing prohibition law by the Benue state government will affect the migration of Fulani herdsmen into communities sharing borders with Benue and may lead to crisis.

According to the Chairman of the association, Muhammad Hussaini, “We are sensitising our Fulani people how to live in peace and not disturb people’s crops. We advise our leaders of the Miyetti Allah in most of the local government areas to see that the crops for farmers are not destroyed.”

“With the implementation of the grazing law, we are appealing to the Federal Government to look into this law so that Benue State should revisit that law. We want peace, we don’t want this international cattle road to be blocked, that is our worry.

“Some herdsmen are coming from the northern part of Nigeria and passing to Enugu, Abakaliki, Cross Rivers, Anambra and they will pass through Benue and if the international cattle road is blocked, we will have a problem,” he said.

Crime / Nnamdi Kanu Is A Wise Man, He Made A Fool Of The N/army, His Strategy Is Amazing by Ebisco02: 4:25pm On Nov 05, 2017
The uk minister in an interview said:
The success of the non-war antics and strategy adopted by the leader of a separatist group in Nigeria, Nnamdi Kanu who is also a citizen of uk, to actualize his planned disappearance clearly indicates that there is a lot wrong with Nigeria’s security system and set up.

With Kanu’s knowing that the court at the continuation of his trial might possibly revoke his bail, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader played on the weakness of Nigerian military to facilitate his aversion. It is a common knowledge in Nigeria that you just need to raise verbal abuse on Army personnel for him to show all skills gained from warfare trainings he/she has undergone.

This also shows in the military’s response to Kanu and his group’s provocation. His residence was invaded and the military declared him a terrorist to provide an excuse to cover up their easy prompt to provocations.

Confirming this grand plot, a member of the group who spoke with the Sunday PUNCH few days after the incidence said that: “We have to apply wisdom to whatever we are doing. We have realized that there is a grand conspiracy against Kanu and other top leaders of our group…. Nnamdi will soon disclose his current location and IPOB will also react to the proscription of the group by the South-East governors’ forum.”

Asides the easy to provocation weakness of the Nigerian military, another defect in the security setup is the continuous use of the army for issues of internal security. The detention of arrest of the secessionist leader would be better done by the Nigerian police as the continuous use of the military in civil related conflicts means more.

The handling of IPOB’s problem also shows that the country lacks proper intelligence architecture needed to foster internal unity. Or at worst, there is no cooperation in the working various security apparatus in the country. Infiltrating the group to get real-time information about the group’s activities is the first task the Nigerian security should have done. But we rather rely more on the might of force to quash the movement.

Politics / Buhari Orders Fresh Offensive Against Biafra Agitators, Others by Ebisco02: 10:11am On Nov 05, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday ordered security agencies to apprehend persons or groups threatening the peace and unity of the country through inciting statements, instigate civil disobedience, riot and rebellion.

Those who fall into this category include MASSOB, IPOB, among other groups seeking secession.

The President gave the directive in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State during the 22nd and 23rd combined convocation of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO).

Represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwuka, Buhari warned that “the Federal Government will never condone and tolerate incendiary remarks from any person or group of persons, which are meant to harass, intimidate, cause fear and spread hate, no matter how highly placed such a person is.”

“Law enforcement agencies should fish out people who put out inciting statements, instigate civil disobedience, broadcast hate speeches or stir up strife, riot and rebellion and bring them to book”, he stressed.

“The current discussions and debates have been typically lively, boisterous and even sometimes rancorous; but this year, strange and embarrassing dimensions have been introduced. The idea of a part of our country seceding from the rest is not only unacceptable, it is also unconstitutional.

“The very idea of issuing threats to a particular group of people with ultimatum for them to relocate from their legitimate places of residence is an assault on the very foundation of our nationhood.

“We cannot afford to lose any part of Nigeria through secession, dismemberment or any other process; we cannot accept the breaking of our beloved country and we can never endure this sort of internecine debate and recriminations for a much longer period.

“Within this context and as a matter of urgency, I am tasking our universities to conduct research and come up with empirical solutions for this national problem which is plaguing and even threatening our continued existence as a country today.

“It is a veritably bad and specious logic when some Nigerians point to the few countries else-where that have undergone secession as a reason why we should also break up our country, but they fail to draw attention to the fact that there are even more countries that have remained united and indivisible.

“Our elites must stop misleading our people; they must refrain from spreading fear in the society. The development and progress we all clamour for can never thrive in a hate-filled and divisive society”.

Crime / 7 Reason Why Biafran Will Not Break Up In Nigeria, By What Nnamdi Kanu Did To.. by Ebisco02: 7:55pm On Aug 17, 2017
The Obi of Onitsha Igwe Alfred Achebe has called for a system that would facilitate the development of future leaders of Ndigbo in a 50-year vision programme.
Speaking at the headquarters of the World Igbo Summit Group (WISG) located at the Gregory University, Uturu in Abia state, Achebe said it is important for the Igbos to kick-off the implementation of a plan that will propel the people to a sustainable development within the next 50 years.

“We should start implementation, not just talking; we need good leaders to carry on with the programme,” Achebe said.

He said the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has a vision and the courage to ask questions on the treatment meted to the Igbos.
Achebe said: “Nnamdi Kanu has a vision and he has the courage to ask questions on why an Igbo person is institutionally disadvantaged in the country.”
He further urged Igbo leaders not to be ashamed of Biafra and focus on creating opportunity for Igbo youths to thrive.
“Let us not be ashamed of it, we are all Biafrans in spirit. We have to create opportunity for our youths to rise,” he said.
Achebe also suggested the inauguration of a committee that will kick start the 50-year development plan of the leaders under the aegis of the Igbo Leaders, Elders and Collectives.
The meeting which was presided by the president general of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo John Nnia-Nwodo focused on the implementation of the resolutions adopted during the last summit of the WISG on the 50-year development plan proposed by the leaders.
Also speaking at the meeting, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Chukwuma Soludo advocated for the creation of Ohanaeze youth wings in all tertiary institution in Igbo land.
Soludo said such groups would help inculcate the spirit of Ndigbo as well provide a foundation for the youths to key into the development plan.
He said, if well executed, the vision would not only ensure a prosperous homeland for the Igbo people but provide an economic strength that would be sustainable in the region and nationwide.

Crime / Couple, Two Children Dead As Badoo Boys Strike Again by Ebisco02: 6:50am On Jul 31, 2017
When peace was thought to have returned to Ikorodu, Lagos, the notorious ritual cult, Badoo, has rekindled panic in residents.

The cult killed a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Adejare, two of their children, while the third child was said to be in a coma at the Ikorodu General Hospital.

According to Punch, This happened in the early hours of Sunday in Oke Ota community, Ibeshe.

The children were reportedly aged between five and one. Two of them were identified as Siyin and Ajoke, all females.

They reportedly cut the window net of the family’s apartment to gain entry.

They were said to have subsequently smashed the victims’ heads with a stone and left the area unnoticed.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident became known around 12 pm when church members of the deceased checked on them on the way from church.

He said, “They had a special programme in their church today (Sunday). The members decided to check on them because they did not come to the church. They found the whole family in a pool of blood and raised the alarm. One of the three children was still breathing. He was rushed to the general hospital.

“There are burglar-proof bars on the windows in the house, except in the kitchen. They came through the kitchen. They tore the net and entered the house.

“We seem to have relaxed in securing the community because the attack subsided for some time. Even the police patrol has reduced.”

Another resident, who did not want his name in print, said the corpses were removed by policemen from the Ipakodo division.

He said the victims attended The Chosen Generation Family Church in Oke Ota, adding that a stone used by the gang was left behind.

“The apartment was given to them by the church. The couple were on the bed, while the children slept on mats. Four of them were killed. Their corpses have been deposited in the Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary,” he added.

A community leader said the residents would intensify vigils in the neighbourhood, urging the police to ensure regular patrol on streets.

He said, “We were happy that things were getting better before this incident. There is one little girl among them receiving treatment at a hospital. Her head was smashed.

“We only hear sirens of the police patrol from the main road. They don’t usually come into the inner parts of the community, where the Badoo members operate.”

The Lagos State police spokesperson, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said the killings had no connection with the Badoo cult, adding that the location of the family’s residence was not accessible to vehicles.

He said, “The house is just a room and parlour with one open window and no visible form of security. A family of five were attacked. Three died on the spot, one died while receiving treatment at a hospital and the last member is alive and responding to treatment.

“No visible trace of violence or clues linked to the cult was found. No stone was found at the scene. A case of murder is being investigated by police detectives, which doesn’t fit in the modus operandi of the cult.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2017/07/couple-two-children-dead-as-badoo-boys.html

Crime / 8 Girls Run Mad After We Used Them For Yahoo Plus by Ebisco02: 10:25pm On Jul 29, 2017
Suspect: My mother introduced us to cyber fraud voodoo
“After spending lavishly, we sometimes go bankrupt. So, we have no choice than to use metaphysical powers to hypnotise our victims online. The act of using voodoo is what people nicknamed ‘Yahoo Plus.’
“I use it so that the victim, otherwise known as a ‘client’ will fall deeply in love with me and obey my every command. At least, I have been into dating scam for a while now and I can boast of two cars and a house.”
The above is the confession of 26-year-old Hakeem aka H Funds. He dropped out of university when he was in 100 Level. After dropping out of school, he embraced cyber fraud. Interestingly, he has been able to buy cars and build house through the scam.
Hakeem is toeing the path of many Nigerian young men and women who are embracing cybercrime. Many of them have left the traditional method of attempting to sweet talk victims into parting with money. Today, they now use voodoo, otherwise known as ‘Yahoo Plus or Science’ to collect money from unsuspecting victims.
Many of the young men, who spoke with our correspondent spoke, said the cost of a particular voodoo, depended on how challenging a certain internet fraud might prove to be. They also confessed that aside from the fact that Yahoo Plus makes them richer, it also is a stress-free way of making money. They revealed that native doctors, Islamic and Christian clerics usually prepare the charms for them.
Hakeem insisted that Yahoo Plus was the best gimmick to apply in online dating scam.
He added: “I use voodoo for dating scam. I use it to spellbind my online victim and make him or her easier to control. There are different kinds of voodoos; one is to use the image of the white client, another one is to make incisions on our hands, place our legs on a tortoise or take the client’s name to a cleric or native doctor. Sometimes, we take our phones and computer to the shrine. The type of Yahoo Plus I do is to take client’s name to the shrine.”
Another operator, Lanre, 25, said that he and his younger brother wouldn’t have succeeded in internet fraud, if not for the help of his mother. He disclosed that it was their mother who introduced them to the new level of cyber fraud.
Lanre said his mother didn’t believe in them at first until he carried out a scam and bought a car from the proceeds. The car got his mother so tickled that she decided to take them to a herbalist for charms.
He said: “Although my father is late, we have been successful in this cyber fraud business because my mother supports my brother and I. My mother took my younger brother and I to a woman’s place. The woman took us to a river and bathed us. Asides that, I do other sorts of rituals like ‘Oshole.’ Once you have done Oshole, you will succeed in every kind of internet scams. I must confess that I have achieved a lot by God’s grace. I haven’t seen any repercussion because I do go back to the herbalist’s place to renew my voodoo.”
Another internet fraudster, who gave his name simply as T Money, said that he had been using black magic for his cybercrime for long.
T Money, a 200 Level dropout, disclosed that after he abandoned his university programme, he had tried his hands on several menial jobs, but failed to succeed in any. He finally went into cyber fraud.
The 27-year-old T Money explained why he abandoned the traditional Yahoo Yahoo to delve into the occult world of Yahoo Plus.
He said: “When I started the internet fraud, I couldn’t earn much. I only earned enough to buy clothes, some pair of shoes and an IPhone.”
According to him, while his friends were hitting big money and living lavish lifestyles, he was counting pennies.
He said: “I became intrigued on how my friends were making good money. I asked questions and got answers. It was the answers that led me into Yahoo Plus. It is what most of my friends do. I went to meet an Islamic cleric.
“I was into dating scam when I first started. The dating scam was not really fetching huge amount of money. I began using Yahoo Plus because my friends were making it big and buying cars. Once they make big money, they will go and lodge in hotels. I desperately wanted to belong. I wanted to know what it feels like to be rich. I had no choice than to meet the cleric whom I paid money for the ritual. Look at me today, I’m doing fine.”

Politics / EFCC Recovers N329bn From Mobil, Oando, Conoil, Others by Ebisco02: 5:49am On Jul 27, 2017
Eniola Akinkuotu, Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says its Kano Office has recovered N328,988,296,990.62 from nine major oil marketers across the country.

The marketers include Conoil Plc, Total Plc, OVH Energy Plc, Oando Plc, Forte Oil and Gas Plc, Mobil Plc, MRS Oil Plc, NIPCO Oil Plc and other retailers of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The EFCC, in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said the recovery was sequel to a petition against the leadership of the NNPC and its subsidiary, the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company.

The petitioner alleged that N40bn had been diverted by the major oil marketers in connivance with the leadership of the NNPC and the PPMC.

The anti-graft agency subsequently referred the petition to a special task force which swung into action by conducting discreet investigations.

It stated that the probe revealed that the diverted money was actually N349bn and not N40bn.

The statement read in part, “Findings by the operatives of the EFCC revealed that the oil marketers were actually indebted to the Federal Government to the tune of N91,519,485,204 between 2010 and 2016.

“Further investigations into the allegation also revealed that the oil marketers had continued to obtain petroleum products from the government without proper payment in violation of the NNPC/PPMC credit facility regulations; a probe of which further led to the discovery of N258,928,926,351.93.

“Following the latter discovery, the total amount of debt stands at: http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2017/07/efcc-recovers-n329bn-from-mobil-oando.html

She went further to slam the daddy GOs who sit back and lick the sweat off the backs of younger pastors; those she says are sent out to grow their ministry without any financial support – “this is wickedness,” Anunobi says. “It is your ministry, your responsibility, your vision and you should also be part of the provision.
