Education / How To Stand Out In Competitive Scholarship Applications by EllieJune: 2:19pm On Oct 31 |
Applying for scholarships can be a daunting process. You're up against hundreds, sometimes even thousands of talented applicants, all with strong academic records, passionate essays, and impressive extracurriculars. So, how do you stand out in this competitive crowd? Let's dive into some practical tips that can help you shine, especially if you're applying as Nigerian student. Start by Understanding the Scholarship Requirements Each scholarship has its own set of criteria. Some may focus on academics, others on community service, and some may seek students who show leadership skills. One common mistake is not thoroughly understanding what the scholarship committee is looking for. Before diving into your application, take time to carefully read the guidelines. Note any specific themes, essay prompts, or values they prioritize. This shows you respect their expectations and that you're serious about the opportunity. 2. Build Trust by Being Authentic When writing your scholarship application, authenticity is your greatest asset. It's easy to think you need to sound "perfect" or list every achievement you've ever had, but committees are skilled at spotting insincerity. Share real stories that reflect who you are. Talk about the challenges you've faced, the lessons you've learned, and what truly motivates you. Building trust in your application means showing the real person behind the achievements. For example, if you've faced specific challenges as a Nigerian student, highlight how those experiences have shaped you. Being genuine helps your story resonate and leaves a lasting impression. 3. Make Your Essay Personal and Relatable Most scholarship applications require an essay or personal statement. This is your chance to show the committee who you really are. Write in a way that's conversational, like you're speaking to someone who doesn't know you. Instead of focusing only on your achievements, talk about your dreams, passions, talk about your dreams, passions, and goals. Explain why this scholarship is important to you and how it will impact your future. Sharing specific examples from your life, especially those that demonstrate resilience or ambition, makes your essay memorable and relatable. 4. Highlight Your Leadership and Community Involvement Scholarship committees love to see applicants who have a positive impact on their communities. Showcase any leadership roles or volunteer work you've done. Even small contributions can make a big impression. Describe your involvement in a way that shows your commitment and passion. For instance, if you've mentored younger students, explain how it helped you grow as a person and what it taught you about responsibility. Standing out in scholarship applications isn't about being perfect. It's about being real.By understanding the requirements, building trust through authenticity, and showcasing personal experiences, you can create an application that resonates

While I don't think it is offensive ordinarily, I don't recommend you going around asking people if their child is natural or IVF. In order words, know the kind of relationship you have with that person first and ensure you have a good reason for asking. 1 Like |

Well, I would never advise you to make such a major life decision based on what someone said. Just because they are in a horrible marriage which they might have possibly contributed to does not me you will end up the same. Finally, it is better to have experienced something and regretted it than to just sit on the fence and wonder ( though not in all cases) 1 Like |

Education / Re: Struggles Of A Private School Teacher by EllieJune: 2:22pm On Oct 09 |
Those private schools are something else, a friend of mine was asked to be retained after his service on a salary of 20k for 3 subjects. Like in this era? Anyways I am not very sure he can learn any tech right now without paying. Also whatever Android phone he has now can not carry the apps needed for it. So my advice is for him to start small, maybe learn, digital marketing or stuffs like that (in his free time) then start applying for remote jobs that he can combine with teaching while he save up to go into tech full time. 1 Like 1 Share |

Congratulations to your little sis . As for recommending courses she can apply for with this result, how about you guys actually sit her down and ask her what she wants to study, what she has passion for. Most importantly since you all live with her, you should have already observed her enough to be able assess her strengths and weakness as this will go a long way in guiding her find the right course. This is no longer the age where you dash a child any course you feel is most lucrative at the moment and watch her struggle with it. |
