I'm in faculty of education. I paid 122, 000 naira for school fees and 33, 000 for miscellaneous charges last session for PhD program. That is 155,000 in total. Now I will have to pay 409, 625. I'm really depressed. This is too much.

Business / Re: FG Mulls Redenomination Option To Stabilise Naira by Emir8: 5:00pm On Aug 20, 2023
Saintinoo:
This is a nice policy, especially having an inflation targeting, Ghana did same and it worked for them. Nigeria only had a monetary policy targeting.
But the most important thing is to have an import substitution strategy that will see us stop importing much (especially petrol), so as the naira will stop chasing the dollar.
The lowest performing currency in Africa is Ghanaian Cedis. Do your research before talking any how. Inflation in Ghana is worse than Nigeria. Many traders in Ghana only accept dollars for payment of goods and services. The redenomination in Ghana makes everything worse there.

How can redenomination stabilize naira. You want to create 300, 400, 2000 etc naira and you think that will stabilize naira against foreign currencies? These people are daft. Instead of increasing export, they are looking for ways to embezzle money

After Ghana did redenomination, their currency and economy crashed to the lowest since 1976. Inflation rises to all-time highest level.

Foreign Affairs / Re: WAR - Niger Deploys Troops At Border With Benin, Nigeria As It Faces Invasion by Emir8: 1:34am On Aug 18, 2023
Blazebond:
If ECOWAS enters Niger, the coup plotters would run out of Niger that very day, they know that they stand no chance at all because they know that some other military officers not in support of the coup might arrest them and hand them over to ECOWAS ,a thief is never comfortable with a stolen good and no matter the bravado being exhibited by the coup plotters, they know that they are thieves.
And mind you all,Mali and Burkina Faso dare not try Nigeria or ECOWAS at all, because an attempt at trying Nigeria or ECOWAS,the gaze might now really shift towards them and they really wouldn't want that at all.
Before they move out, they will kill Bazoum, his vice president and all the ministers in their detention. So how will democracy be restored or ECOWAS will conduct another election? Think before you talk. Over 500,000 youths in Niger have volunteered to be part of the homeland defense. The recruitment is taking place in all the provinces now. How can ECOWAS troops pass without being ambush by locals? The people of Niger don't believe that ECOWAS is coming to help them. Has NATO restore democracy in Libya and Afghanistan as the claimed when they invaded the two countries? Dey play. The north see this war as Yoruba aggression against Hausa and Fulanis population in West Africa. You think when Hausa and Fulanis are being killed in Niger, the Hausa and Fulanis in northern Nigeria will just sit down and be laughing with yorubas living in the north? Visit the north and discuss this ECOWAS intervention with average Fulanis or Hausa and hear his shocking response. I'm a northerner and I live in the North

Foreign Affairs / We Are Ready To Storm Niger - ECOWAS Force by Emir8: 2:45pm On Aug 17, 2023
Troops of the Economic Community of West African States have said they are ready to participate in a standby force that could intervene in Niger.

After presidential guards seized power from President Mohamed Bazoum, ECOWAS issued a 7-day ultimatum to the military to restore the president or risk sanctions, including possible military action.

But the junta called off ECOWAS’ bluff and vowed to resist foreign intervention.

Subsequently, the regional bloc asked Defence Chiefs from the 15-member regional bloc to activate its standby force.

At a meeting in Accra, Ghana capital, on Thursday, the Defence Chiefs said they were prepared to restore civil rule in Niger.

According to Al Jazeera, all member states except those under military rule and Cape Verde pledged readiness to participate in the standby force.

ECOWAS commissioner, Abdel-Fatau Musah, was quoted to have said this.

The medium further quoted Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, to have said, “Democracy is what we stand for and it’s what we encourage,”

“The focus of our gathering is not simply to react to events, but to proactively chart a course that results in peace and promote stability.”

Burkina Faso and Mali, which have experienced multiple coups since 2020, warned that any military intervention in Niger would be declared as an act of war, revealing a fracture in the region between its coastal countries and those in the volatile Sahel.
