One of the cushions the Buhari administration had was blaming PDP and the Jonathan government.

Tinubu refused to blame Buhari, having said that he inherited the assets and liabilities.

Let's remember that when Buhari and Emefiele rolled out the drastic naira repainting policy, Atiku and Obi supported it because they assumed it would be to their advantage.

These people carry out selective criticisms where they stand to get benefits.

As for those attacking the administration. It is clear that they prefer the old way of doing things. Borrowing to subsidize the rich. Tinubu has a 4 year mandate. He has two years left as the last year is for heavy politicking.

If Tinubu fails after his mandate, vote him out. That is your duty. Crying on nairaland asking him to resign or telling lies that he stole the mandate of some deluded politician will not coronate the politician as winner.

People who were reasonably informed knew there would be problems due to years of waste and plundering of our resources since 1999. Those who vociferate the loudest sold national assets to cronies as well as stashed state funds in banks they were shareholders or laundered them in tax havens.

Today, they claim to be stainless as if they don't know that some of us know what they did.

Maybe we should rate them with like and share too. What do you think?

I'm thinking of writing a piece on the hypocrisy of agbadorians and the president's 1 year anniversary.

You know, ever since the 1900s, every administration all over the world, be it civil or military have always had its scorecard unveiled after its 1st year in office. The president of that govt will use that occasion to give account of his stewardship in the past year and what is expected going forward.

But as the first anniversary of this govt nears, supporters of this govt have been working overtime to shift attention from the man who got the votes to his appointees. Instead of the usual rate this administration in this or that sector poll, what we're seeing is polls on ministers!

Mind you except for the Minister for petroleum, none of the ministers will be up to a year in office by May 29th. Same mouth Agbadorians used to tell us to wait and rate the president after a year is the same mouth they now use to tell us to rate ministers who are less than a year in office.

This barefaced hypocrisy being masked as public engagement is a tacit admission of the failure of their godfather in his first year in office. So to save face, they turn it to a gladiatorial contest in which the crowd is asked which minister is to be fed to the lions.

Nigerians must be aware of those who are destroying the nation on the altar of lies, hypocrisy and sycophantic worship.

You are not at a level to get my engagement,

Foreign Affairs / In Canada, Bodies Go Unclaimed As Costs Put Funerals Out Of Reach by emkz: 2:20am On May 19
Some Canadian provinces have logged a jump in unclaimed dead bodies in recent years, with next of kin citing funeral costs as a growing reason for not collecting loved ones' remains.

The phenomenon has prompted at least one province to build a new storage facility. Demand for memorial fundraisers has surged. The overall cost of a funeral in Canada at the top end has increased to about $8,800 from about $6,000 in 1998, according to industry trade group estimates.

In Ontario, Canada's most populous province, the number of unclaimed dead bodies rose to 1,183 in 2023 from 242 in 2013, said Dirk Huyer, the province's chief coroner.

In most of those cases, next of kin were identified but unable to claim the body for a variety of reasons, the most common being money. Finances went from being the reason for 20% of the total unclaimed bodies in 2022 to 24% in 2023.

"It's distressing because it's a person who has passed and there's nobody – family, friends, or others – that are in a position to be able to provide instructions or plans for that person after their death," Huyer said.

Officially, in Ontario, a body is deemed unclaimed after 24 hours. But the coroner's office staff may spend weeks trying to locate next of kin, he said. If the relatives confirm they are unable to claim a body, the local municipality works with a funeral home to provide a simple burial.

In the meantime the body is kept in a morgue or temperature-controlled storage facility.
"There's always been families that are in need of additional assistance. (But) I've never seen the number of unclaimed remains that currently exist," said Allan Cole, owner of the Toronto-based funeral home MacKinnon and Bowes.

In Quebec, the number of unclaimed bodies grew to 183 in 2023 from 66 in 2013. In Alberta, the number of bodies for whom no next of kin could be located to claim them rose to 200 in 2023 from 80 in 2016.

Historically, the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador did not encounter enough unclaimed remains to warrant long-term storage, a spokesperson for Newfoundland Health Services told Reuters.
Now, in the wake of an uproar over unclaimed bodies kept in freezers outside the hospital, the province is constructing a permanent storage unit to hold remains.

"People weren't claiming bodies because they realized they couldn't afford to bury them," said Jim Dinn, leader of the province's opposition New Democratic Party. "It's not about building a bigger storage unit: It's about addressing the underlying cause causing the accumulation of bodies and removing the barriers so people can have a dignified burial."

An adult single grave with the Mount Pleasant Group on average costs $2,800, but the price in midtown Toronto was $34,000 as of April 1, according to the website of the cemetery, funeral and cremation provider across the Greater Toronto Area. The price excludes opening and closing of the grave, funeral, tombstone, taxes and other items.

A funeral can cost C$2,000 to C$12,000, said Funeral Services Association of Canada President Jeff Weafer, up from about C$1,800 to C$8,000 in 1998.

The number of memorial fundraisers on crowdfunding site GoFundMe has ballooned to 10,257 in 2023 from 36 in 2013, a spokesperson for the site said.
Government support for funerals has failed to keep pace with rising funeral costs, advocates have said. The federal government announced a C$2,500 top-up to the C$2,500 death benefit in the Canada Pension Plan in the April budget.

"Losing your life partner or spouse is devastating for a senior. It can also be an immense financial burden after a lifetime of hard work," Katherine Cuplinskas, press secretary for Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, wrote in an email.
"That is why we are strengthening the Canada Pension Plan to provide a top-up to the death benefit."

That is not enough, Weafer said.
"This is not a respectful end for Canadians," he said. "The reason deceased individuals are going unclaimed by their families is about affordability."

Even though I don't support Obi, I see this plot as an attempt to use Obi by squeezing his base.

How?

PDP is unlikely to zone the ticket to the southeast. Who will plead the case and on what basis? PDP currently has only 1 governor in the southeast in Peter Mbah, Enugu state. So tell me the southeast politician who'd promote the idea. Adolphus Wabara? Ben Obi? Okwesilezie Nwodo? John Nwodo? Anyim Pius Anyim?

Please tell me who'd promote it.

The best thing Atiku would have said for me to trust his intentions is to say he'd work for the ticket to be zoned to the southeast. Atiku didn't say that. Do you expect Bala Mohammed or Bukola Saraki to support zoning it to the southeast?

Peter Obi is in labour and it has a fair national spread. All Atiku needs is to bring his northern votes. Peter Obi won two geopolitical zones. Atiku won one. Merge those three and fringe votes from the northwest and christian votes from the middle-belt if he has a strong politician from the north as running mate. That is the only calculation.

Will politicians with selfish ambitions allow it? Even if PDP zones it to the southeast, will core Igbo politicians support Obi?

Forget PDP zoning that ticket to the southeast with hawks like Atiku still having ambitions.

My advise to Peter Obi: you won the southsouth and south-east and was competitive in the north-central. Tinubu won the southwest, northwest and northcentral and was competitive in the northeast. The north contributed the bulk of votes that gave Tinubu the presidency***. How can you pluck those votes?

***Tinubu got 5,598,686 (63.5%) of his votes from the north. He got 3,206,734 (36.5%) from the south. So whoever wants to unseat Tinubu needs to tackle him in the north. Which southerner can accomplish that?

What it means is that no outsider or racist must have the privilege to insult us.

Daily, BATISTS, OBIDIENTS and ATIKULATORS insult themselves. No one says "insult yourselves". They just do it due to political differences. What is common among them is that they are Nigerians. Insulting Nigeria is an assault on all of them. It's like when Nigeria is playing football. Which Ghanaian gets away with saying anything against Nigeria then?

They must unite and say Nigeria trumps the differences and move against a common enemy: the racists and white supremacists.

Didn't Atiku, Saraki and five PDP governors abandon PDP towards the 2015 elections to fight for presidency?

PDP is in crisis due to their inability to deal with Wike and those renegade governors who worked against the party. Atiku has not been able to rally the party.

Politics / Re: Nigeria Has Collapsed Under Tinubu – Babachir Lawal by emkz: 2:38pm On May 18
How?

According to Wikipedia, stare collapse occurs when:

(1) opposition groups arm themselves and mobilise against the government;

(2) political transitions such as decolonisation or regime change cause existing power structures to be questioned;

(3) politics prolong power struggles and undermine existing institutions;

(4) repression causes extreme distrust between rulers and the rest of society;

(5) factionalism obstructs strengthening of state policies;

(6) loss of cohesion within the ruling elite erodes the monopolisation of violence, rule-making, and tax collection; and

(7) external interventions contribute to destabilisation.

Let us remember that state collapse almost occurred during #EndSARS protests. It almost started when Charly Boy wanted to lead a national protest after a candidate he supported was defeated. It must also be recalled that the supporters of one losing candidate went to Defense Headquarters to ask for military intervention to prevent a constitutional handing over of power.

State collapse is not due to the irresponsibility of the ruling class alone. Irresponsible opposition also plays a role, especially from those who fail to accept defeat.

The likes of Aisha Yesufu and Kenneth Okonkwo have been saying there is no government while some are referring to candidates who lost as "their president". This behaviour cannot be tolerated in other countries.

So yes, the likes of Babachir Lawal want Nigeria to collapse since they didn't get their way.

They must be resisted.

I do not agree with you. We have to examine their accusations and if they are true, we should work on them. If they are not true, then we should discard them.

We may be Obidients, Agbadorians or Atikulators. We may disagree politically, but once our common heritage (Nigeria) is challenged, we must fight to defend our honour. After that, we can continue fighting. It's like a family: we fight each one another inside and when we go outside, we fight as one.

(1) Comparing Nigerian human rights records to Nazi Germany is an attempt to denigrate Nigeria in the most malicious sense. They wouldn't even refer to Israel in such terms.

(2) Calling Nigeria the murder capital of the world is an attempt to demarket Nigeria. Having seen the hospitality of Nigerians as accorded to the couple, they know that liberal British nationals would want to come and experience it. What better way to prevent it than demarket the country?

(3) They want to talk about poverty. How about they talk about the poverty and cost of living crises in the UK?

(4) The charges against Allen Onyeama were found to be false. A successful black man is a threat to their supremacy ideas. Do you wonder why they picked out Allen Onyeama?

(5) The black race is still behind in global development index. If Nigeria gets it right, that would be the hope for the global black race. These people know it. An enlightened black race is a threat to the development of the white supremacists. Didn't they predict the collapse of Nigeria in 2015? Can't you see the wave of anti-French tendencies in francophone Africa? Don't you suspect the French are afraid?

Look, if you think there are criminals in Nigeria, then you have not investigated that the same UK has more criminals and enablers.

They are demonstrating their criminality now by undermining a sovereign nation as though Nigeria is an appendage of the UK.

The British media is insanely racist. They have been falling over themselves to move from insulting Harry and Meghan to comparing Nigeria human right records to Nazi Germany. Another one who said women's rights do not exist in Nigeria is Kevin O'Sullivan.

The charges against Allen Onyeama were quashed, but the British commentator would still insist because it drives their narrative.

There have been others who think Nigerians are uneducated. The British are criminals who stole from around the world to build their empire. They still believe we are in that era of criminality.

To tell you how ignorant they are, they say the visit was a royal visit. How can it be a royal visit when they are not working royals? One of them, Michael Cole, who claimed to have covered the British royal family, said no royal would visit Nigeria. The man does not know their former queen, duke of Edinburgh, princess of Wales and even their current king as prince of Wales visited Nigeria several times.

Dear nairalanders, even if Nigeria is the worst country in the world, only us can insult our own country and ourselves.

The moment some racists do it, we must not accept it. We must unite and run them out of town.

This is vague.

Atiku's support for Obi is conditional on if the new party nominates Obi. He also cited how he won the PDP ticket after an open contest.

Atiku did not say "if the new party zones the ticket to the southeast".

Atiku invariably wants Obi to join the alliance. Atiku did not say he would let Obi win the nomination. If Obi loses the nomination, he'd lose face and must support Atiku. If he leaves to another party after realizing the game, it would be too late.

Instead of forming a new party, let the opposition elements rally round Peter Obi in Labour Party.

Yes.

It beats me that governments are always looking for foreign investors to mine their minerals.

Even locals can do artisinal mining. Find a way to make it large scale and ensure health and safety. Hire consultants if need be. But never allow foreign companies mine those assets alone.

State governments and religious too need to stop allowing Chinese access to our security resources.

Peter Obi does not command the majority of the opposition, Atiku does. Obi realizes this and heeds the call from Atiku to join him in the opposition he'd lead.

If Atiku had teamed up with Kwankwaso in the last election, Tinubu would not have been president or the margin of victory would have been thin.

Obi cannot be president alone. Obidients can lie to themselves that he can be president by his own might.

Both men overrated themselves and lost as a result.

Below is a comment on Obi's visit I shared elsewhere:
emkz:
Peter Obi did gragra thinking he could go all the way alone.

He has learnt his lessons.

Atiku saw himself as the president and underestimated other persons like Obi, Kwankwaso, Wike and Tinubu. Atiku doesn't seem to have learnt a thing.

Historically, no one becomes Nigeria's president on his own. In 1999, Obasanjo was installed by the military. In 2007, Obasanjo helped Yar'adua. In 2011, Jonathan was helped by most Nigerians who did not appreciate the way he was treated. In 2015, Buhari was helped by Tinubu, Amaechi, et al. In 2023, Kwankwaso, Atiku and Obi helped Tinubu win by splitting their votes.

Now, some people are shouting themselves hoarse that Tinubu bribed INEC and never won the election.

If Obi or Atiku believe this, they would ensure no one bribes INEC and still try to win from different parties. That they want to align is an indication that they realized their disunity cost them the election.

It must be recalled that Atiku in his last ill-fated press conference had called on Obi and Kwankwaso to join him in opposition. Obi seems to be heeding the call.

Dear Obidients, has Peter Obi even explained to you people why he made that visit? Would you still support him if he deputizes Atiku?

Politics / Re: Coalition For Peter Obi by emkz: 5:31pm On May 16
This is not how to engage in political negotiations.

Peter Obi does not command the majority of the opposition, Atiku does. Instead of beating your chest and issuing threats, you call, you beg, you negotiate, but never impose.

If Atiku had teamed up with Kwankwaso in the last election, Tinubu would not have been president or the margin of victory would have been thin.

Obi cannot be president alone. Instead of boasting that he must lead the coalition, read the room properly.

The north reads that an Obi would want to do two terms which would mean that power stays in the south for 12 years. They still think the south owes the north 4 years which former president Jonathan took from them when Yar'adua died.

All these permutations would come to play on the negotiation table.

Please don't ever approach political negotiations from a point of naivety. That was what killed Obi's and Atiku's chances.

Both men overrated themselves.

So?

Atiku has never made any pretences about being a puritanical politician.

The other one pretends to be so clean that it is disturbing.

Politics / Re: Atiku Pension Fund Critique: A Case Of Double Standards Given His Own Manifesto by emkz: 2:54pm On May 16
One good thing with Tinubu is that he mentioned explicitly what he'd do.

There was even a video where he talked about accessing the pension fund. He told former president Buhari he'd develop a template for him then.

He spoke about the student loan scheme years before becoming president. He even challenged Jim Ovia at a symposium to consider consumer credit schemes.

Tinubu was clear with his plans. And he is following up with them. He came with a plan.

What plans did Atiku and Obi speak about?

Go back and read the last sentence in your moronic advice to a useless and irresponsible government that you support. I have reproduced it below in case you pretend not to see it

Stop selling fx to the public and stop selling fx to the public through BDC doesn't mean the same thing.

Your post clearly says stop selling fx to the public, and I'm telling you that if the government foolishly does it then Naira will crumble.

I recall you. You were the dude who was palpitating after losing billions to Binance axing.

I remember telling you I won't say I knew how you felt because I didn't. I am not sorry for your loss. I can still see you are in severe pains.

I asked you a question: mention one country where their central bank pumps fx through BDCs into the public market.

Incase you are ignorantly not aware, dollar is not a legal tender within Nigeria. So it is wrong to sell fx to the public within Nigeria.

Like I mentioned, only those travelling, students to pay fees, importers and businesses repatriating their funds need fx. And for their transactions, things can be done electronically.

No other person has any justification for fx within Nigeria. If there is, state it here.

I once bought fx at an airport and they collected my fingerprints and picture as well as giving me a recept with a tracking number. The dollars we threw away through the BDCs, where did they go?

Mumu advise from a typical government propaganda zombié.

Dollar is gaining value because it is very scarce. There's not enough to go round to meet demand.

Asking the CBN to stop dollar sales to the public will create artificial scarcity. People will be desperate to pay any naira price to get their hands on the dollar to facilitate whatever transaction they need it for.

In the end, naira will further lose value.

Inflation has gone up again... Naira has dropped value again.

Do you still remember your moronic defense of Tinubu and Cardoso 8 weeks ago vis a vis where we are now?

You responded to "mumu advise from a typical government propaganda zombie".

If you responded to a zombie, doesn't that make you a zombie?

Can you mention one country where their central bank sells fx to BDCs who then sell to the public within their country?
