I tried it and regretted ever making such mistake,no matter the situation you find your self in Nigeria is not yet ripe for some body who has lived overseas for a long period of time.
Some Will tell you that there is no place better than home(yes i agree) but you should weigh your options properly before taking such decision.I bought a one way ticket in order not to run back abroad but i lasted only 2yrs in Nigeria and had to run back for my dear life.
Like a poster earlier asked, you know best your reasons of wanting to go back.

I need that garri over here in MD,the last trip i made to 9ija it was the only product that kept my body cool when ever i come home with some dried fish.
At school back in those days garri was the saviour because it was used in every part of our daily meal. But there was a news that was flying around then that it can cause blindness.

cretin:

i wish i cud do it free, but there are so many free vin check threads.
my thread/service i render is directed towards those who want urgent service for their vin reports, and cant stand the delay in the free vin threads,
i was a victim of the free vin thread thingy, i wanted to buy a car and had several cars to pick from, thus i needed the vin check urgently.abt 4 vins and i needed the report within hrs, and not days as obtained in the free vin check thread.

take for example posting 4 vin check requests in the free vin check thread - u wud just be ignored, no one wud do it for u, and then mailing it 2 u within hrs again, no one wud also do that 4 u, --
since its a free service, u get the report when the poster is free/is happy/is in the mood.

the service i offer, is fast n reliable, no downtime, and i always deliver on time, go tru my thread, not a single complaint of poor or slow service.

i post most vin reports within 1hr or within 12hrs if its posted after 9pm.charging the token fee enables me pay for my internet acces and be online 24/7, thus making me respond fast 2 vin requests
cheers
I get you men,i work with the biggest Auto company in North America and i have codes for all Auto checks in the world to get info about every vehicle that is produced here in America.

You will never regret going to Ghana for holidays, i was in Ghana for 2months on a holiday trip after some scary period in Nigeria. I felt so relaxed and enjoyed the people whom i respect so much for there respect and attitude.I came back to Nigeria to catch my flight back to base that was when i understood that Nigeria was hell compared to heavenly Ghana. If you have the time i advice you to visit Ghana and you will have fun and won't spend a fortune.

what do you mean by they wnt be able to go fru thousand of rides?when you take your car to the sea port, you drive it to the customs checking point and someone comes out to check the Docs against colour VIN and VRM, it takes less than 10 mins, an they go back to get custom clearance, they do it for every vehicle, mayB these guys butcher the vehicles and ship them as parts?
I have known law enforcement Agents from America come down to Nigeria in Abuja to track fleets of stolen luxry vehicle, you can always know that there are rings of Nigeria who are always on the look out for loop holes in every organization to milk it dry. I know how you can load a 40 FT Container with two cars and then block the two cars with other items so that while inspection is being carried out the will only see what is at the front.

Cheaper Cars in Nigeria Don't Necessarily Mean they were Stolen from the USA,

You can Check the Link Below

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-229254.64.html#msg3436551

Did you read the article on the front page of Washington post? Nigeria once again is being smeared again due to our do or die ethics.
Car Talk / Re: Stolen Cars From Usa End Up In Nigeria. by endmoll(m): 12:48pm On May 02, 2011
erico2k2:

Is there any need to call my question dumb, anyway, hear me out since you refused to answer my very question,STOLEN CARS CAN ONLY END UP IN NIGERIA if they are declared scrap,i.e dismantled and shipped as parts,When your car gets stolen you report to the police right? and an alert is put on the plate number,We all abroad who ship cars know that your plate number(VRM) is tied to your car and dies with it till shipped abroad, once customs key in your VRM all the details in your car would comeout ie, Howmany owners, current owner, status wether stolen, still on contract HP or any modification or if it has been in an accident oh yeah the VIN and the the Colour,) if any of these details is different from what hey are physically seeing on the car, it ain't going nowhere.
Now in the shipping Biz there are two side of it, some people here parade themselves as working for a shipping company or they own a shipping agency where thier real Job is fright forwarding ie registered agents whom thier Job is to forward frights to shipping companies eg,(GRIMALDI in the UK)these are the shipping companies who own the ROROs.
Now regarding cheap cars in NIGERIA, can anyone point me a car on this site that they think is cheaper than its cost price in America?lol cos here in the EU, I can bu a 2000 model of certain cars for less than £1000 in Germany, on a one on one level ie private sales, My Xpirience with cheap car is this,
Nigeria don't own a Data base of registered cars so one can easily register a car10 times,,so what do you think when Mr A buys a 2010BMW and get robbed, criminals take off the number plate and says it just arrived last week from Germany, forge all the papers and decides to sell it to an unsuspecting Mr B in the other end of the country?my very good mat xpirienced tthisfirst hand, he spent 2 weeks in a police cell cos he did not listen to me even though I adviced him the cost of thecar was way way beyond tthecost price abroad,Now if anyone think I have ot got a hang of what is going on plz ddon'thesitate to comment, but no name callingas we are matured and it should be pure discusion and clean arguments.
I insist you read the article that was written on WWashingtonpost and the diagram that was drawn for you to see how the theft is car theft is being carried out till it gets shipped.
I think that you are thinking out of the box that was why i told you to go back and reread the article,if you are offended by my previous comment i take it back. Hope that solves the case!
There has been numerous times when American Agents were in Abuja with the Nigerian security force inpounding exotic cars that were stolen from USA and shipped to Nigeria.
I don't think we need to argue about this issue but we all need to think of our dear country and ways to be good citizens of the world.

The fact remains that there are some of our shiping agents here in the USA that help those stolen cars to sail to Nigeria. Because if they do not aid those thieves i don't think Nigeria will have such problem, but there are few families who can stand up to the truth.
Car Talk / Re: Stolen Cars From Usa End Up In Nigeria. by endmoll(m): 2:50pm On May 01, 2011
@fhemmmy, Thank you for saying exactly what i have on my mind all these while. My job over here makes me understand the prices of Used American Cars and some times when i see or hear prices of cars been advertised or sold in Nigeria it baffles me,when i calculate the exchange rate, shipping and clearing you will ask your self was this car ever bought or stolen.@ My company(CARMAX) in a good day i buy at least twenty to to thirty cars from private seller for my company and the ones that i can't recommend for retail we take them to our auction where dealers come to buy from us.
It is very hard to work in Nigeria now due to this theft and shipping because they affect the prices of legitimate car dealers who want to do real business. I am more concerned about Nigeria's image than car business because i meet people every day and as a Nigerian i am subjected to scrutiny before i can transact any business.

I work for one of the bigest used car companies in America and my job is buying used cars for the company,i am sad to say this but that is the Truth there has been occasion were cars that were stolen have been brought to me to give it a clean bill of heath with dude papers but my company has a process/policy that i have to strictly ad her to. There are loop holes in the system and few people tend to utilize those loop hole for there selfish reason and smear Nigeria's name.

It marvels my thought how we Nigerians can continue to dent the image of our dear country,i was at a community garden where i rent a piece of land to plant some vegetable for my personal consumption and part of my hobby too. I got into a conversation with one off my neighbours at the community garden.
The first question he asked me was,are you a Nigerian? i said yes,he asked again if i have a huge sense of humour? i said yes. He said, i hope that you are not one of those who send me thousands of emails and we all laughed about it till he brought out his news paper to show me this article.

Sorry bro for what you are going through with your car. I don't know why Honda products appear to be problematic when they arrive in Nigeria.
I have had issues with Honda on so many occasions,if not mine it will be my friend or a relative of mine. The only advice i will give you is to go to this Honda market in Constain, there is a guy there who specializes in Honda and he does not touch any thing in your car without diagnosing the fault,he will diagnose your car and tell you to go buy the parts your self and if you don't get the best he will tell you to take it back.
If you have the time you can go check him out and you will never regret doing so,he has my recommendation any day any time.
He is very hardworking and most time that i have been there he has about 50 cars waiting to be attended to and every body always leave with a smiling face.
Hope my contribution helps. Kpele!

Travel / Re: My Biggest Challenge As A Nigerian Living Abroad by endmoll(m): 10:47pm On Apr 21, 2011
aktunde:

For me, I think various factors are responsible for all these. First is the general beliefs of people back home. Second is the attitudes of those abroad, third is individual attitudes and the last is family background.

The general beliefs of people back home

I am not talking about those who travel abroad for business or vacation. I am talking about those who have never traveled out before. Many think that money is everywhere on the streets of places like US, UK and other countries unmentioned. So the moment any one steps out of Nigeria, they believe his life is automatically better than the life of any other resident of Nigeria. Just within my first week in the US, a friend back home was already saying "How is work?". I was like; what the hell? Just like that? I don't even know where next I will go after my hotel bills expire and you are talking of work? So funny.

The attitudes of those abroad

I think those abroad (not all of them) are contributing to this problem too. On getting abroad, they are not sincere to themselves and to those at home. Many live fakes lives. Why will you take photo shots besides the latest Bentley, Range Rover Sports or other fast machines (which is not your own) and you think people at home will not think you are rich? Funny enough, people at home automatically assume you own it. When the rational ones among them ask about the ownership of those beautiful houses and cars, some of us here will still tell lies that we own it, simply because those at home are too far away to verify the truth. So, can you tell me why those at home will ever stop begging for money?

Individual Attitudes

Not everyone living abroad is guilty of point 2 above. Some of us are actually sincere with people back home. But some people will never stop begging for one thing or the other. They are just like that. Even when it is evident that they are richer than you, they will still want to collect the little you have. The same way they are begging from you, the same way they are begging from those back home too. It has nothing to do with you living abroad.  The only slight difference is this; if Mr Lagbaja in Ikorodu can give them N5000, you in US should be able to give them $5000 or do better. Shikena!

Family background

Regardless of points 1,2,3 above, family backgrounds matter a lot in this. When the rich ones keep dishing out money through wire transfer to their children to sustain them here, the other way round is the expectation of the poor families back home. The poor families do not know anything about work permit, SSN, green card, red or blue passport. They do not know or care to know if you have the right to work abroad or not. All they know is; "don't marry oyinbo oh! and why are they saying this? So that you won't spend all your money taking care of the oyinbo. So that you can always have enough to give to them.

How to handle the situation

1. Know when to say Yes or No. Everyone can never like you even if you cut your neck for them to share
2.  Be honest with your situation here. Do not deceive yourself and don't keep deceiving them. Else they wont stop!

How I am handling mine

1.  I do not change my contact details because of anyone and I will never do that

2.  I was very open to my friends and parents. I do not let them feel that I am better off here. I took my time to let them know my class of visa. I told them I am on student visa, and I am not allowed to work. Yes, USCIS said I can work 20 hours as a Masters student, but I told them I can't find a job. So, instead of my younger ones expecting to get from me, they were willing to send the little they have in Nigeria to me, but I have always told them never to bother. I am also open to my friends back home too about how life is here, and no one is bugging me with requests. That is it!

My men you said it all in your post and i must comend you for being truthful to yourself about every thing but i still have my reservation about certain things.
We used to say as you make your bed so you shall lay on. I wish many people on nairaland would read this tread and understand that life is never easy abroad. Period

Romance / Re: She Never Ever Demand ! by endmoll(m): 2:37pm On Apr 15, 2011
Better be aware that women are like green snake in green grass. I have never seen a Nigerian lady that does not demanding regardless of her status. They take it to be their birth right that a man should always provide for them, some of them who have good jobs or good monthly pay checks are not excluded. Forget about most of them who come out to say they are independent and never asked from there manthey are all lie rs and not truthful to them selves.
I get amazed most time when i see most of them brandishing out BB phones from there pockets, i ask my self how much does most of them earn in a month to be able to afford such exotic material.I am not against any body having any good thing if you can afford it.
Its not a crime to seek for assistance from your boy friend or your girl friend in time of need but it should not be reason for being together because some body has to bail the cat therefor milking the cow to death.
I guess it is a cultural attitude that has to be changed period.

Computers / Re: Are Internet Services In Nigeria Really Another Big Joke? by endmoll(m): 11:01pm On Apr 14, 2011
Nutridor:

EverJ I also live in Port Harcourt and have had the same experience. I even used Mobitel before they died. What I have realised is that mobile phone operators are not the best internet service providers. This is because it is not their primary service. I suggest you look for a service provider whose primary service is internet provision i.e an ISP. I recommend IPNX. I have been using them for about 6 months and they are very reliable. I even do skype video calls. The one that really impressed me was when they were down for about 1 day due to a fibre cut. The day was credited back. I do not think MTN will ever do that.
I also used to live in portharcourt and i had to be paying for starcoms and multilinks at the same time, with starcoms if you are not living in the town you can't have access to the internet but with multilinks you can have access.
Starcoms to me is the best ISP in Nigeria and i have my multilinks for back up when i am any were in the country that starcoms does not have coverage.
I think the best option is to have two service providers at the same time so that if one is not working you can use the other. That is the reason why we need change in Nigeria so that our government can protect us from all these multinational companies who are milking us on a daily basis in the name of ISP.
