The Joint Task Force (JTF) for the Niger Delta has also debunked the veracity of another Al Jazeera programme featuring alleged MEND fighters in the region. The JTF said an aerial surveillance of the region showed there were no longer any militant camps anywhere, as claimed by Al Jazeera From our own JTF. Now, the questions;
[li]Why has Aljazeera stooped to lie?[/li] [li]Why would a station with the international clout of Aljazeera believe the cheap lie that a terror suspect in custody can make calls?[/li] [li]Who is behind the deception?[/li] [li]If the phone calls to Aljazeera originated from SA, which of Okah's associates is still roaming free? We must begin to ask very serious questions of what Aljazeera's motives in Nigeria are. The standing of that news outfit for all intents and purposes, is now shredded and in tatters. |

Security agents doubt Okah’s Al Jazeera interview By Elizabeth Archibong October 8, 2010 04:52AM Nigeria’s security operatives have expressed doubt about the authenticity of the celebrated interview with a former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta’s (MEND), Henry Okah, by Al Jazeera, during which he said an aide of President Goodluck Jonathan asked him to implicate Northern politicians over October 1, 2010 bomb blasts, which left 12 persons dead. A security source said investigations within the security services in Nigeria and South Africa revealed that the interview with Mr. Okah might have been faked to deceive the Qatar-based news network. The source said last night that their South African counterpart confirmed that, “at no time did we allow Okah to make such telephone contact. Following suspicion raised about the authenticity of the interview, we contacted South Africa to confirm its validity, but were shocked to find out that at no time did such interview take place,” he said. “In fact, our contact wondered why it took us so long to cross check this information because they did not want to interfere, since the issues did not concern their government directly. They have been waiting for such security inquiries from their Nigerian counterpart before revealing the veracity of the interview, since the content does not concern them directly.” Al Jazeera confirmation An Al Jazzera reporter, however, told NEXT that the interview was conducted with Mr Okah. The reporter said Okah called from South Africa and he was passed on to the company’s studios in Doha. “He called me from prison on a +27 number,” the Al Jazeera staff said. “We had a long discussion about the bombs and the situation in general. Clearly, they are allowed access to fixed phone lines in SA prisons. I asked him whether he would be prepared to be go live on Al Jazeera that very instant. He said ‘yes’. “So I gave him our newsdesk number in Doha - and alerted them to the fact that Henry Okah was about to call from prison. He called, and they put him right through to the studio and live on air,” the reporter said. The Joint Task Force (JTF) for the Niger Delta has also debunked the veracity of another Al Jazeera programme featuring alleged MEND fighters in the region. The JTF said an aerial surveillance of the region showed there were no longer any militant camps anywhere, as claimed by Al Jazeera. “Al Jazeera, it will be recalled, had also during the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s health saga, staged a similar interview with the late president’s cousin, claiming that the sick man was healthy, playing with his children, and climbing 13-storey building,” a security source said. http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/5628099-147/security_agents_doubt_okahs_al_jazeera.csp |

Enough is enough •Jonathan warns desperate politicians •As Mark carpets IBB, Atiku, Ciroma on Abuja bomb blasts •It’s idiotic to link me with bomb blasts -IBB Written by Akin Durodola, Taiwo Adisa, Ayodele Adesanmi, Dipo Laleye and Leon Usigbe Thursday, 07 October 2010 PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday, came down heavily on people he described as enemies of progress and said that enough was enough of individuals or group of individuals holding a country of 150 million people to ransom. “Nigeria is bigger than any individual or any collection of individuals. Nobody can hold a country of 150 million people to ransom any more. The interest of a few concerted, ill-motivated individuals cannot be bigger than our national aspirations,” he said. Jonathan, in his reply to comments made by his friends on the social networking site, Facebook, on the October 1 bomb blasts, reiterated that investigations had shown that some politicians who were bent on seizing power by all means were behind the dastardly act. According to him, “if the aim of the attackers is to create a sense of insecurity and panic across the nation in order to advance their narrow interests, Nigerians will stand up to them and make it clear that they cannot be intimidated.” To buttress his point that the blasts and the comments made thereafter by politicians had political undertone, the president noted that there had been unprecedented national tragedy of this nature in Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa and Zamfara states, “which the so-called people never addressed nor offered a word of succour to the victims. “It is unfortunate that an unprecedented national tragedy of this nature has been politicised by people whose only interest is what they can get from the country and not what the country can get from them. “They specialise in playing one part of the country against the other and riding on sectional sentiments to promote their narrow interests. I believe that Nigerians have grown beyond this parochial mentality. “To prove to you that their interests are personal and not for the people they claim to represent, you will notice that while this administration has spent considerable time and resources as well as focused attention on the recent floods in Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi and Jigawa states and the cholera epidemic in certain parts of Nigeria, as well as the lead poisoning that has consumed 400 children in Zamfara State, the so-called concerned people have not been known to address any of these issues nor offer a word of succour to the victims. “This is irrefutable proof that their only focus is how to get power and not the well-being of the long suffering people of Nigeria, whom I have sworn to Almighty God to protect,” the president stressed. He promised that the Federal Government would share in the pains of the bereaved and the injured, adding that “we will give the best medical care possible to the injured.” Also, the Senate President, David Mark, on Wednesday, lashed former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida; former Vice-President Atiku Abu-bakar and former Minister of Finance, Alhaji Adamu Ciroma, for allegedly politi-cising the October 1 bomb blasts in Abuja. The Senate President, who was rounding off debates on the Abuja bomb blasts, said he was disappointed at the comments attributed to some of the political leaders in relation to the bomb blasts. However, the Senate observed a one-minute silence in honour of those who lost their lives during the incident. Mark, while concluding deliberations on a motion, Bomb Blasts on Independence Day, sponsored by Senator Anthony Manzo and 36 others, said it was lamentable that some senior citizens would seek to politicise a criminal incident. Mark said it was regrettable that the politicians were allegedly making inflammatory statements that were capable of destroying the fragile unity of the country. The Senate President urged the security agencies to work round the clock to ensure that the culprits were apprehended and justifiably punished. He advised Nigerians to borrow a leaf from the Americans during the September 11, 2011 terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre (WTC) in New York, by coming together to promote Nigeria’s unity and oneness. The Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, said what happened on October 1 was an embarrassment which, he said, brought shame to the country. The Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, said the incident was a terrorist act, adding that “a terrorist cannot be a friend of anybody.” Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Kabiru Gaya, also said it was unfortunate that the blasts happened when Nigeria was celebrating its 50th Independence anniversary. Meanwhile, General Babangida, on Wednesday, reacted for the first time to the bomb blasts which claimed 14 lives and injured 42 others in Abuja on October 1. He said “it is idiotic for anybody to link him with the incident.” IBB said “it is idiotic to associate me with something that will threaten the unity of Nigeria, especially on a symbolic day like that.” General Babangida told newsmen at his Minna Hilltop residence, after receiving a bus donated to his campaign organisation by the Nigerian in the Diaspora Northern America and Europe chapters. “I fought a war to make sure Nigeria is one, I am still carrying the strap line up till today, I don’t want anybody to carry it. “I cannot do anything to threaten the unity of Nigeria, only idiots will associate me with such a terrible thing.” The former military president also said his campaign organisation director, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, who was questioned by the security operatives in connection with the incident, could not have had any hand in it. General Babangida said people cast their imaginative minds on Dokpesi because “Nigerians have fertile minds; his arrest is borne out of the imaginative and fertile minds of Nigerians,” adding, however, that “it’s is the price he is paying as a politician.” Babangida blamed the security agencies for not nipping the incident in the bud, saying that “nobody has disputed that the government was given notice by the bombers.” IBB said “you don’t need more than 24 hours to remedy it if you are informed, two days are more than enough time for reaction, which is vital to security,” adding that “I am not blaming anybody, but there is a lapse.” On why he failed to attend the country’s 50th Independence anniversary in Abuja, Babangida said he did not believe in the whole concept and the expenditure that accompanied it. Meanwhile, the Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Wednesday, deliberated on the Independence day bomb blasts and resolved to stand firm with President Jonathan in handling the situation. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, conveyed the cabinet members’ support to President Jonathan, whom they urged not to be distracted by the occurrence. The Minister of Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili, who briefed State House correspondents at the end of the weekly FEC meeting in the State House, said the president had given his commitment to fish out all those who perpetrated the act. Meanwhile, the council has approved $6.8 million as Global Environment Facility (GEF) grant to support the proposed scaling up of Sustainable Land Management (SLM) practice knowledge and coordination project of the Federal Government. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/11836-enough-is-enough-jonathan-warns-desperate-politicians-as-mark-carpets-ibb-atiku-ciroma-on-abuja-bomb-blasts-its-idiotic-to-link-me-with-bomb-blasts-ibb |
Politics / Impeachment Threat: Niger Delta Group Issues Ultimatum To Northern Leaders by Faeb: 12:38am On Oct 07, 2010 |
Impeachment threat: Niger Delta group issues ultimatum to Northern leaders •Arewa wants judicial commission of inquiry on Abuja bombings Written by Chris Agbambu and Hassan Ibrahim Thursday, 07 October 2010 THE Niger Delta Restoration Initiative (NDRI), a coalition of socio-cultural groups in the Niger Delta region, has asked Mallam Adamu Ciroma and some members of the Northern Political Leaders Forum (NPLF), allegedly threatening to instigate the impeachment of President Goodluck Jonathan if he failed to resign his office by the end of one week over the twin bombings during the nation’s golden jubilee celebrations in Abuja to recant such statement. According to the group, “the reports credited to Mallam Ciroma smacks of political indiscretion, recklessness, and brazen disregard for democratic ethos and the office of President and Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. And the underlying motive is not far fetched: to plunge the nation into another round of tension and instability through fanning the embers of ethnic and religious sentiments aimed at discrediting the laudable leadership of President Goodluck Jonathan.” Addressing a world press conference in Abuja, President-General of the group, Chief Pupagha Ekpedekumor, said: “In a bid to achieve their inordinate motives, Mallam Ciroma and his group are flying a kite of northern insecurity under a Jonathan presidency, citing alleged claims by Mr Henry Okah, an associate of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), that he had been contacted by a faceless aide of President Jonathan to implicate some northerners in the Friday bombings.” He added that, “while we condemn the act in the strongest terms and call on the authorities to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to book, no matter how highly placed, we are at a loss on how it affects the safety of northerners to the extent of calling for the president’s head. “The circumstances surrounding the incident, particularly the intelligence reports at the disposal of local and international security agencies prior to the bombings clearly indicated that it was indeed, a terrorist act. “After a careful review of the position of the Northern Political Leaders Forum at an emergency meeting held today (Wednesday), in Abuja, the Niger Delta Restoration Initiative deemed it necessary to issue this press statement outlining our position on the issue: “Though impeachment is a legitimate process in democratic governance, we in the South-South geopolitical zone view the statement credited to Mallam Ciroma and his group as a threat, which we shall resist through all available means. Some few individuals in a section of the country should not regard themselves as holding a birthright to the presidency, and should, therefore, refrain from gang-up and employing largely undemocratic means to destabilise the nation whenever people from other sections of the country assume positions of authority. “Leadership is not a do-or-die affair. After all, since the existence of Nigeria as a political entity, people from the South-South have never tasted power at the presidential level; yet, they had never fought against the unity of our great country,” the group said. Consequently, the group said, “we give Mallam Ciroma and his co-travellers a grace period of 48 hours within which to recant their statement and apologise to the presidency and the generality of Nigerians, or be ready to face the consequences. We are using this medium to warn these few individuals pretending to be protecting their people now, but did nothing to uplift their standard of living to act wisely and henceforth, be cautious in their actions and utterances.” In another development, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), on Wednesday, called on the Federal Government to set up a high-powered judicial commission of inquiry into the bomb blasts which occurred in Abuja so as to ascertain the truth and effect retribution on offenders against future occurrences. A communiqué issued in Kaduna signed by the ACF’s National Publicity Secretary, Anthony Sani, after a meeting of the forum’s Board of Trustees, led by its chairman, Lieutenant-General Jeremiah Useni (rtd) and supported by the Secretary-General, Colonel Musa Shehu (rtd), resolved that having considered the claims and counter claims of those allegedly responsible for the dastardly act, setting up the commission of inquiry would also douse the mistrust and suspicion in the polity. The ACF, however, welcomed the decision of the Federal Government to give the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) more time that would enable the commission to prepare and conduct credible, free and fair elections. “However, the ACF frowns on any attempt by the presidency to take advantage of the situation to reintroduce the practices whereby political appointees would be automatic delegates in party congresses and conventions, as well as in party primaries.” “It is still the position of ACF that in order not to confer undue advantage on incumbents, to create level-playing field and to enthrone internal democracies within political parties, all political appointees should not be automatic delegates as amended in the electoral act of 2010,”they said. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/11834-impeachment-threat-niger-delta-group-issues-ultimatum-to-northern-leaders-arewa-wants-judicial-commission-of-inquiry-on-abuja-bombings |

I can't understand why you guys above are going on about Boyloaf. If you read the news carefully enough, you will find out that the person who made all the claims to have recruited everybody, being the owner of MEND etc, was Tompolo! Its so funny that even "educated" people don't read. "We are not part of the incident on the First of October," said Tompolo. "I want everybody in this country to go after anybody who is part of this havoc. MEND is not involved. I am the owner of MEND. I recruited everybody. And by the grace of God, we are here to support the late president. And that is the same support we are now transferring to you as our brother. @OnlyTruth There will be no coup, except its an inhouse event. Neither will there be war. All the strategic arms of the army have been placed in the hands of Southerners. The greatest example is JTF, which is comprised of air, ground and naval forces, it is by far Nigeria's most powerful and capable army unit; it is headed by a Southerner. The only strategic unit headed by a Fulani or Hausa man in the south is Enugu (Sarkin Yakin Bello), but the JTF can cut him off through the South South and Niger Bridge. In the converse, there are Southern generals in the most strategic parts of the North and Lagos. |
Politics / Re: Northern Political Leaders Ask Jonathan To Resign by Faeb: 9:02pm On Oct 06, 2010 |
People keep saying GEJ spoke too quickly. . . They are making a big mistake. Lets take a deeper look at GEJ's (and Nigeria's) enemies and find out what their methods are. GEJ's enemies are the the puppeteers that control the cabal and their modus operandi involves stoking and manipulating fears based religious extremism, tribalism and violence. Two legs of this evil tripod were employed on Independence day. Violence, as in the bomb blast and the resulting deaths and tribalism as in getting Niger Delta hands involved in order to point fingers at the President who happens to be from the Niger Delta. Jonathans counter was twofold; to condole with the dead to calm the effects of the violence (expected), and to shift the event from the tribal angle of its planners to outright terrorism. Jonathans second action was particularly effective, in that the planners could not launch their next action with any effect. Their next action was to be a wholly tribalistic one, in which Jonathan would have been accused of not having control or support of the Niger Delta. That has failed and the terrorists are now clutching wildly at straws as the roof comes down around their ears; they are now talking desperately of impeachment (any such ridiculous move will fail woefully). GEJ has not made any error of judgement rather, what he has done is severely blunt a vicious attack mechanism, whilst strengthening his own hand of cards. It is a patient and painstaking job, but the cabal will be defeated in the coming showdown. Need to know more?
