JUST HOPE IS NOT GOOD BYE AGAIN...LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS FORUM basking4me: Jites, thanks for your compliments and belief in the thread. I really am sorry for abandoning the thread for so long. Am realli back now as I have proposals to throw to the house that will be of benefits to us all.
Now to you queries; 1.Yes you can get 90% ie 900 birds laying eggs at a stage during their laying cycle if they are well taken care of ie, feed and hygiene. You should achieve this for a few months before it starts dwindling.
2. What I mentioned in my previous post is PEN housing. Even if you will still house them in cages, you still need a roof for them to stay in the cages, cost of cages is not included. So my analysis is based on housing for 1000birds that will be in cages inside a pen. This is so because the cages will ensure space management but if they are to be on the floor at maturity, then they will take double space of the pen.
3. Cage system is by far better to manage layers than litter but funds are usually the challenge. Cages ensure very clean eggs and more production. Layers smatch and eat up their eggs if you dont pick them up from the litter system early but with cages, you can pick up your eggs anytime. Then the main issue is in the picking of the eggs, man one can have back problem picking 900 eggs everyday. Am talking from experience.
Again, layers die more on the floor than in cages. On the floor they eat anythin and achieve diseases easily. Hope I tried on this.
4. Variable cost?, okay-- from day old to start of laying for 1000birds goes like this. You cant spend more than 50k for drugs but the feeds is what I can't determine because this value is variant, however if u put a value of 900-1200 on point of lay and the initial cost of 200 for day olds, then u have cost of feeding them and medication at abt 700-1000. It will be less if you now do it yourself from day old ( but I advice experience before you start with doc or you get a consultant). 5.Indeed I know the cost of both acquiring and installing cages. For a cage of 90birds I can get you a cage for 45k. So for 1000 birds, you should look towards 500k.
Jites, I really appreciate you for giving me the reason to come back to our POULTRY BLOG, everyone on this thread mean everything to me, you all have kept me going especially with you comments, advice and observations.

Politics / Re: Why Do People Hate Bola Tinubu? by faluchi: 3:09pm On Oct 21, 2012 |
Da gr8tosyn: It is needless to compare and contrast between a Leader with style and demagogues at the corridor of power...Tinubu is a Leader forget the fact that he dines and wines with the government money, my questions are these...
1)How many governor has been able to produce atleast four governors after his regime? 2)Do you think yorubas of all tribes and ethics are fools to accept to follow ACN at the expense of criminals ruling in PDP? 3)Can you mention any ACN ruling state that is not performing and living up to the modern days challenges? 4)How many of you friends on NL will be a governor and not dine and wine too? 5)If Tinubu selected rather than allow people to elect Fashola in primary and he is the best ever seen governor in Nigeria, won't you perfer a Leader like Tinubu to select for your state rather than voting for thieves like Alao Akala, OGD,Alameasia, Ibori who packed a state money to buy himself heaven on earth etc.? 6) Do you realise we are yorubas and we believe in optimal performing government than promising government, so if you are from South/south,S/E, etc please leave Tinubu and address the issue of Governance in your region or state?
I love Tinubu for only one thing, he is a political Leader that commands respect from any opponent at any given time in the world, due to his understanding of a true Democratic system and struggle for Justice, fairness and development that will touch the live of ordinary people Obama recognised him and invited him to Democratic convention in the united state. Quote me anywhere Tinubu has fought a good fight for the Yoruba race and won in this generation than any political leader...what have you or any of your leaders done? To the front page please! I CAN SEE HOW STUPID YOU ARE TOAD...YOU ARE FROM SUDAN.... |

fnk: Transforming Poultry Waste to Wealth in Lagos 29 March 2012
NIGERIA - In line with the state’s commitment of turning waste to wealth, the Lagos State government has introduced a new technology that will transform waste from poultry farms into very rich manure for crop cultivation. The method, according to Saba Gbolahan Adekunle, a poultry facilitator from the state ministry of agriculture and cooperatives, will not only curb the environmental hazards associated with the crude method of poultry waste disposal, but also yield huge income for the farmers.
BusinessDay reports that Mr Adekunle spoke in Lagos recently during a meeting with the first allottees of the state’s 80 Hectares Poultry Farm Estate, Erikorodo, in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area. He disclosed that 1,000 birds produce 900kg of waste every week, and pointed out the need for farmers to know the volume of waste being generated in their poultries to be able to ascertain the value.
PLEASE WILL LIKE TO KNOW IF U ARE BACK FROM THE STATE,AS PROMISE COST I NEED TO SEE THE FORMULA WORK
“Waste from poultry is supposed to be managed properly. What they do is to gather the waste and set them on fire when they are dry which is not healthy enough. We are going to help them manage it properly with a new technology that will enable them transform the waste into manure, bag it and sell to crop farmers. The manure produced is even richer and better than fertilizer,” Mr Adekunle stated.
Earlier, Gbolahan Lawal, the state commissioner for agriculture, noted that the farm estate was established to revamp the poultry production business in the state, guarantee steady sources of animal protein to Lagosians, provide employment to the teeming population of youths and also provide a viable business for investors.
Mr Lawal assured that government will provide necessary infrastructure and utilities for the farmers in the estate. These include - a 10,000-bird capacity mechanised broiler house, feed mill with capacity to produce 12-ton of feed mill per day and a poultry processing plant with capacity to process 2,000 birds daily.
Ogunsetan Olugbenga, secretary, Poultry Association of Nigeria, Lagos branch, commended the government for the initiative, noting that the new technology would be environment friendly and also improve farmers’ productivity, while serving as a model in the country.
Adekunle Oshukoya, a retiree and one of the allotees, expressed appreciation to government for encouraging development of agriculture in the state through the poultry farm scheme as well as other farming schemes.
Other agricultural projects carried out by the state government in conjunction with the private sector include; 20,000 tons annual capacity rice mill in Imota, 1,000 annual capacity cassava flour factory at Imota , agro-allied park at Imota also, pig breeding centre at the Pig Estate in Gberigbe, Fish Farm Estate in Ketu Ereyun, Epe and the Vegetable Estate at Iya-Afin, Badagry.
