My problem with VS is that u have be pay $$ to get any decent functionally that comes out of the box with IDEs like Eclipse and Netbeans.

for example to refactor code in VS i need to drop $ to buy resharper whereas the same refactoring tool is built into eclipse for free. .

refactoring is available out of the box in VS2010.

Apart from Sliced Bread been over-rated, what's particularly great about VS, I've personally haven't great experience with it but then you might have used it more?

talk about sliced bread being overated is true though, agege all day for me.

Back to VS, started development with C++ (used Turbo C++), then Java using Netbeans before VB.net and then C#. So I haven't used that much IDEs. Turbo was crap, enough said. Netbeans was a bit overwhelming. VS was intuitive (to me). It stole me with it's advanced intellisense (back when I started) and the debugging facility provided in recent versions is top notch.

Surprised I haven't seen Visual Studio mentioned here. Is it because there are not that many Microsoft programmers on here?
I'm here thinking VS is the best gift to man since sliced bread

Webmasters / Re: How I Increased My Website Traffic To 1000 Unique Visitors Daily by fatezy(m): 2:17pm On Apr 01, 2012
An easy way to improve traffic which I hardly see is submitting your feed url to a news aggregation website. This site gets the title of your stories and sometimes summary and then link back to you to get the full story.

I average 500 views per story on my blog www.arsenaleffect.com just from arsenalnews.net.

For those that run football blogs, check www.kicknews.net. There is also www.naijasites.com.ng which is for strictly Nigerian sites and blogs. Then if you can get on www.newsnow.co.uk, you are game.

Programming / Problem Connecting Mssql Management Studio To The Server by fatezy(m): 9:59am On Jun 02, 2011
Good day.
I had MSSQL Management studio installed on my laptop and it was working properly, untill it crashed. After restoring it, I was able to install the MSSQL Server and the Management Studio but the Management Studio refuses to connect to the server.
The Management Studio just attempts to connect unending without giving any prompt or error message. When I try invalid username and password, it alerts me but doesn't show any alert with right parameters.
I have re-installed several times but the problem still persists. Pls, what could be wrong with it?

Sports / Arsenal To Sign Lehmann by fatezy(m): 11:34am On Mar 15, 2011
Though the news of Lehmann being the emergency keeper Arsene said he was going to sign is not confirmed, we can all assume its a done deal. Heck, Arsenal never announces any transfer deal until the player has chosen a squad number and its sure not going to be different this time around.

Many people are quite surprised with this deal, going back to the now unnecessary and irrelevant blame game of Wenger not signing a “World Class” keeper in the summer. You would have taught Szczesny’s performances have been abysmal.

However, that’s not the reason for this transfer. With the now yearly injury course taking its toll, we are now down to 3 keepers with Almunia being the only one with any sort of competitive experience. The other 2, Shea and Martinez have a total of bugger all first team experience. An experienced keeper had to be brought in just in case the course decides to go extreme and takes Almunia for early summer vacation too.

So where does Lehmann stand? To be fair, I’m sure he realises he is past it. He was past it before he left Arsenal the first time. No matter how poor Almunia is, Lehmann is no better in my opinion. He knows all he is meant to do is keep the bench warm. He just wants to help out old friends in time of need. He definitely has a positive relationship with Arsenal because he has been taking a coaching course training the young keepers.

Some would say why didn’t Arsene sign a keeper capable of pushing Almunia. The sad truth is that there is no keeper out there that is good enough, not in a first team and whose manager would be willing to release. And signing Lehmann brings its own added advantage.

The nutter might be just what Arsenal needs to salvage the season. Jens is someone who would not take the rubbish from the players. I can imagine him putting Denilson and Diaby in their place after a shambolic performance. He should also bring in the mythical leadership this Arsenal team needs. And yeah, when was the last time showed glimpses of a quality keeper? Yep, when Lehmann was on his shoulders!

All I see in this deal are positives. Hopefully, it would be to our benefit. COYG!

PS: imagine Lehmann and Szczesny together. Total nutters!

Good day. Pls, I have a site which I developed. during the testing stage, I had no problem with the data base connection with everything working seamlessly. I used a connection string similar to this - "name="me" connectionString="Data Source=.\sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=them;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient".
I have successfully created the database on the site but it is giving me an error message that the sqlserver was not found or is accessible. Please help.

Programming / Re: Creating Scratch Card Application by fatezy(m): 10:01am On Aug 03, 2010
I dnt use PHP So unfortunately, I cant give u a code sample. If i gt u ryt, the problem is knowin if the pin has already been used. U cld create a column, name it used and once som1 registers with the pin, it updates the pin row and sets d used column to true. Only pins with the used column not set to true can b used.

Hope dis algorithm wld help
Select used where pin = pin
if pin exists and used <> true
register
update used, set to true
else
invalid pin

Hope that has helped.
Programming / Re: Creating Scratch Card Application by fatezy(m): 8:33pm On Aug 02, 2010
u cld create a database that wld contain registered pins. When som1 tries to log in, it checks if the pin is regisered and has not been used. U can get pin/password generation algorithm online to generate required pin.

Programming / Help Needed To Develop A System To Monitor Data Usage By Internet Users by fatezy(m): 2:18pm On Mar 13, 2010
I have a project which I have no idea on how to start but would love to do it myself. the system I am to develop is to help monitor the amount of data consumed by internet users of a camous network with the limit of 50mb per day. the system should provide a log-in screen so whenever a user opens the browser, would be required to login and shouldnt be able to open pages unless you have logged in and after the user reaches the 50mb limit, would no longer be able to access the net. I programme using .net so any help would be highly appreciated. thanks in anticipation.
Programming / Code To Monitor Network Usage by fatezy(m): 1:24pm On Dec 10, 2009
i have a lil project on my hand and what I want to do is just to get the amount of data a user downloads.
the idea is to av a login system so when a user opens the browser to access the web, the user is prompted to login and then the download size is monitored.
the challenges i currently have are:
1. how do I make the login application come up whenever a user open his/her web browser.
2. how do I monitor the traffic.
sample codes to do this would be highly appreciated, thanks
