Politics / Kwara State Governor Declares 24-hours Curfew In Ilorin Metropolis by feranmi76: 12:20am On Oct 24, 2020
Fellow Kwarans:

I have just had an emergency security meeting with commanders of various security agencies in the state. This is to assess the situation in the state. Over the last few days, I had earlier met with the traditional rulers, opinion leaders, members of the student community, and many other stakeholders in the state.

Our observation is that what has happened so far today was not a protest. It cannot be defended under any guise.

It was a pure act of criminality. Some persons are hiding under the nationwide tension to commit crimes.

The government has a duty to protect law abiding citizens and their properties.

Lives are being threatened. Businesses are being looted. Public properties have been targeted. This is unacceptable. It is not who we are.

To curb these acts of criminalities, I hereby declare a 24-hour curfew in Ilorin metropolis from midnight today October 23rd, 2020. This is in line with Sections 1, 2 and 4 of the Public Order Act Chapter 382 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004.

People are urged to stay indoors in compliance with this curfew. This will be reviewed as we watch developments.

While the curfew is on, security forces have been placed on the alert to maintain strict compliance. I urge citizens to comply by this declaration which is meant to protect lives and properties.

Finally, we apologise to our people and businesses that have been badly hurt. I urge them to be calm while we stop the criminality now.

Thank you.

What is this one saying? I SAID I HAVE BOTH AND BOTH HAVE BEEN WORKING. FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS, IVE BEEN RECRUITING BOTH. SO WHAT ARE YOU SAYING OGA. I currently have 2 first class graduates who are giving me headache. So shameful an IT student from a Polytechnic in Jos was who came and did simple stuffs/calculations these full-time new recruit were to do. What I heard is that they've not been taught. Till that boy left, I asked him to put them through cos I couldn't drive them considering the condition of this country. I promised myself, when that boy finishes his hnd, I'll employ him FULL TIME and make him head a new and sensitive unit I'm thinking of creating. So pathetic!

Lastly See one thing i want you to know is that your stand about this matter is very wrong, you need to readjust your angle of viewing point, your statistics on this matter is in accurate enough to give you a right answer that you can stand on. Taking a scenario of two degree and ND I. T student or 8 years recruitment experience isn't the right stat to judge or draw conclusion.
I've met Degree holder in life that are professional in their field and vice versa, I've met HND holders too that are professional in their field and vice versa. So as a recruiter I believe you should know about self development which doesn't have anything to do which educational background.
Taking this your own personal experience to judge this national issue is not correct. I want you to change your view.
Yes you are correct if you say University educational system is in mess, but you should also know that polytechnics in Nigeria these days is also out of course (even worse), talk more of other levels of higher institutions.
The main problem is the national educational system that is affecting all the institutions, not just a category of academy institute.
I still stand on my point that each has different ROLES which can't make them to be equal.

You know, it will be funny for you to know the kind of person you are chatting sha. grin

Feranmi76 engineer or technician, that one na title. DELIVER AND LET ME MAKE PROFIT. That's why you went to school to be SCHOOLED on how to deliver. You wrote off point please. I've noticed this for the past 8-10 years of my recruitments. Abeg shift

Then you get it wrong here and you need to step up in your research. BTW, what's the name of your organization and what your area of specialization, maybe I should just give you one university I. T student so that you will understand.
I'm not talking about discrimination here, but I'm telling you that their role is different, thy they aren't equal. If I give your polytechnic I. T student a role of university student a bet with you that he/she will find it hard to comprehend at that instance. And if you don't agree, send one if them to Lagos here, electrical engineering to be precised.
Thanks

6 months. I employ both in my office so don't argue. My colleagues have attested same. Don't argue. No business man wants to waste money on trash. A lot of university students lack a lot and we don't have time for that.

Wow... I now understand you, but let me enlighten you a little.
The reason why University and HND certificate can't be equal is because their STANDARD is different, the INTENT of creating them is different from each other, their CONTENTS are different, their PROCESS is different and these make their ROLES to be different in labor market or field.
For your own organization, the problem is that because you didn't know about the explanation I gave above, you put the two incompatible products together and expect them to deliver the same thing, NO. Understand their roles and place them therein and see the difference. We are talking about analysis and research work.

University engineering student is AN ENGINEER on field, while HND engineering student is A TECHNOLOGIST on field.

So sad! The system is all messed up. The students too are neither serious as well. These have been giving Polytechnic students edge and no one is seeing this.

And polytechnic system is still intact , right?
Stop saying what you knew not about joor.

So sad! TBH the students universities graduate these days are Nothing to write home about. All they are interested In is social media. University education has lost it's relevance in recent times and operate in "PAST GLORY". To my greatest shock, a lot of Polytechnic students have been delivering of late (and even college of health tech.). Very intelligent and serious minded people even in the field. I was made to understand that due to the "practical nature of the Polytechnic system" they get more serious and are exposed to a lot hence their ability to deliver.
As an employer of labour, I'd rather go for a Polytechnic graduate (who knows the job and need not be told what to do) than a university graduate who knows nothing. I'll not have to spend money on training them (Polytechnic graduates) as they are really no freshers and are exposed more in the job environment. Their SIWES (nd1), full IT (After ND which they naturally go look for full time jobs) gives them edge over university graduates. I must confess, they really deliver in the field (At least from all I've worked with TRUTH BE TOLD). IT SHOULD BE EQUATED

You just split out trash here and this shows how limited and ignorance you are about academic system. How I wish I can see you in person to prove some things for you. Talking about SIWES and I. T program as if university students are there to joke for 5 years.
Next time before you comment, try and have a balance understanding about the topic and content.

Good pm nairalanders, please I want you to read and understand my situation presently and forgive me of any grammatical error or typo error in this post.

I'm a 400 level student of Electrical engineering, normally my I. T program suppose to have started since March, but due to the pandemic and lockdown stuffs couldn't do anything. From last month I've being applying for I. T placement in companies and organizations but non responded positively (taking the pandemic as an excuse accept I. T student in there company). Fast forward to this week Monday, I got a call of appoint in one of the companies I've applied to, the date given to me for the resumption to the company is 10th of this month (next week Monday).
In short the problem I'm having now is accommodation (where to stay for the period of this I. T program) because the company is not making provision for accommodation, I've tried every means in my power and people that I know in Lagos but to no avail, the one I even see is very far from the office and the monthly stipend can't cover my monthly t-fare.
The address of the office is AROUND GBAGADA GENERAL HOSPITAL (OPP. DEEPER LIFE CHURCH HEADQUARTERS) GBAGADA, LAGOS STATE.
Please if there is anyone staying around, Ojota, Oshodi, New garage, Iyana owosonki or Gbagada, or if there is any worship center that you know I can stay there for this period please help me out, (just to sleep and wake).

This opportunity is very scarce in this period, don't let me loose it.
I need your advice and positive responses.
