Health / Scientists Create Cancer-killing Cells by fortalex(m): 7:50am On Jan 04, 2013
Scientists have created cells capable of killing cancer for the first time.

The dramatic breakthrough was made by researchers in Japan who created cancer-specific killer T cells.

They say the development paves the way for the cells being directly injected into cancer patients for therapy.

Researchers at the RIKEN Research Centre for Allergy and Immunology revealed they have succeeded for the first time in creating cancer-specific, immune system cells called killer T lymphocytes.

To create these, the team first had to reprogramme T lymphocytes specialised in killing a certain type of cancer into another type of cell called induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells).

These iPS cells then generated fully active, cancer-specific T lymphocytes.

These lymphocytes regenerated from iPS cells could potentially serve as cancer therapy in the future.

Previous research has shown that killer T lymphocytes produced in the lab using conventional methods are inefficient in killing cancer cells mainly because they have a very short life-span, which limits their use as treatment for cancer.

To overcome the problems, the Japanese researchers, led by Hiroshi Kawamoto, reprogrammed mature human killer T lymphocytes into iPS cells and investigated how these cells differentiate.

The team induced killer T lymphocytes specific for a certain type of skin cancer to reprogramme into iPS cells by exposing the lymphocytes to the “Yamanaka factors” – a group of compounds that induce cells to revert back to a non-specialised, pluripotent stage.

They maintained the genetic reorganisation, enabling them to express the cancer-specific receptor on their surface. The new T lymphocytes were also shown to be active and to produce an anti-tumour compound.

Doctor Kawamoto said: “We have succeeded in the expansion of antigen-specific T cells by making iPS cells and differentiating them back into functional T cells.

“The next step will be to test whether these T cells can selectively kill tumour cells but not other cells in the body. If they do, these cells might be directly injected into patients for therapy. This could be realised in the not-so-distant future.’

The findings were published in the journal Cell Stem Cell.

Dr Dusko Ilic, Senior Lecturer in Stem Cell Science, King’s College London, said: ‘The study tackled a novel, quite interesting approach to cell based therapy, something that we do not usually hear about.

“Although this approach requires further verification and a lot of work needs to be done before we can think about clinical trials, the initial data are promising.

“This pioneering work definitely provides a strong foundation to build and expand our knowledge about new opportunities in cell based therapy and personalised medicine.”

Politics / Victims Cry For Justice As Dana Air Resumes Flights by fortalex(m): 7:33am On Jan 04, 2013
Exactly seven months after its plane crashed in a Lagos suburb, killing 153 people, Dana Air yesterday resumed its operations.

The airline’s return to business followed the clearing of the hurdles set by aviation authorities after the crash.

Its maiden flight 9J0359 on its MD-83 aircraft took off from the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 in Lagos to Abuja.

As early as noon, the airline’s ticketing personnel were at the terminal, selling tickets to passengers for the 4.20 pm flight.

The airline sold one-way ticket to intending passengers heading for Abuja from Lagos at N14, 400.

With Dana’s return, the number of domestic airlines operating in the country has increased to five. The others are Arik, Aero, IRS and Med-View.

A ticketing officer, who preferred to remain anonymous, told NAN that the fare was aimed at attracting passengers and to appreciate them for the support given to the airline during its trying period. Other airlines charge N24, 800 for a one way Lagos to Abuja trip.

After some hours of pre- flight preparations, the airline closed its ticket counter. Boarding announcement followed and the plane departed at 4.14 pm.

Passengers boarded the aircraft through Gate 8 of the MMA2.

Most would-be passengers said they were watching to see how the inaugural flight would go, before deciding on their patronage of the carrier.

It could not be ascertained how many passengers boarded the flight, but workers at the MMA 2 said they saw many passengers on the queue, buying tickets. Officials of the airline also did not give details of the flight.

An official of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. James Shallangwa, said yesterday in Abuja that Dana will operate a flight to Lagos from Abuja today.

Shallangwa, Head of Commercial at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Internatonal Airport, Abuja, said Minister of Aviation Princess Stella Oduah had issued a resumption letter to the airline to recommence operation after its plane crashed in Lagos on June 3, last year.

Mr Tony Usidamen, the Head, Corporate Communications, Dana Air, confirmed the resumption. Mr Kayode Adeniran, the Dana Station Manager at the NAIA, said the airline would have its inaugural flight at 9:45a.m. today from Abuja to Lagos.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) revoked Dana’s operation licence, pending proper investigation into the cause of the crash.

In September, last year, the Federal Government reinstated the airline’s licence and allowed it to resume without any flight operations. In December 2012, NCAA issued a new Air Operators Certificate to Dana Air after it completed recertification.

But, the victims of the crash, who are yet to be compensated for property lost to the disaster which claimed over 150 lives, said the airline had been unfair to them. The victims, including widows and young parents with many children, have cried out to both the Federal and Lagos State governments to ensure that what is left of their lives is not shattered. Those who spoke to The Nation lamented the insincerity with which the airline has treated their case. Spokesman of ‘seriously affected victims’ Chike Okwuosa said he was disappointed that the Federal Government allowed the airline to address their matter with levity. He said: “My lawyer, Mr. Monday Ubani, told me they have not done anything. He said after several letters to them, they wrote more than two months ago that they needed additional information, which he forwarded to them.”But till now, nothing has been done; instead, we heard they are resuming their business when they have destroyed ours. Is that fair?”Ubani, who spoke to The Nation on the telephone, said he expected the government to ensure that all affected persons were compensated by the airline before returning the licence to the airline. He said: “What Dana is doing is really crazy. They have not paid anything or said anything to the victims. They wrote me two months ago that they wanted additional information, which I immediately provided.”Since then, I have not heard from them. The government should have ensured that they settle all the affected persons before returning their licence to them. But since their licence has been returned even before now, the government should compel them to attend to the aggrieved persons.”They are just trying to tie people down. They killed a lot of people, destroyed so many property and no one seem to be saying anything.”I have tried to avoid litigation, but if by the end of January they are still nonchalant about the plight of those their business are adversely affected, we will have no other option than to go to court.”Pastor Daniel Omuwunmi, who lost over N500 million to the disaster, said the airline, after a series of letters from his counsel – Messrs Dele Adesina and Co., made an offer of $30, 000. Omuwunmi, who spoke through a counsel at the law firm of Olumide Olaiya, told The Nation that the offer was rejected because the airline had not even written to accept or negotiate his claims. He said: “They have not done anything. We never heard from them until the last working week of December when they made an offer of $30, 000 to Pastor Omuwunmi as advance payment.”What are they advancing? All the efforts we made to bring them to the negotiation table were rebuffed. We expected them to reply our letter, or even say what they intend to pay from the claims before them which are verifiable.”$30,000 is less than N5 million. So, a man who lost nothing less than N500 million, what will $30, 000 do for him? He rightly rejected the money. Besides, $30, 000 was the same amount they paid to all on board victims as advance. So, why come to offer a man who lost everything he had $30, 000 without even writing to acknowledge or reject his claims?”They said their insurers are still processing our claims and so, we are also waiting to hear from them.”

Politics / How I Survived Fire That Gutted My House, By Obasanjo by fortalex(m): 8:24am On Jan 03, 2013
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday recounted what transpired during the fire incident that gutted a part of his palatial building in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, last week, saying he would have died in the inferno.

According to Obasanjo, if not for divine intervention that made the fire to break out in the afternoon and not midnight, he would have been suffocated to death and become history.

Obasanjo, who was Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), disclosed this while receiving a delegation of executive members of the party from the Lagos State chapter, at his hilltop residence.

He was full of praises to God for sparing his life and for the opportunity to witness a new year, stressing that the smoke that beclouded his room would have killed him.

While recounting the experience to the delegation that was led by the Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the PDP, Mr. Tunji Shele, Obasanjo said many documents and consumables were destroyed in the inferno.

He said: “The fire, which occurred in the office of my Private Secretary, resulted in thick smoke, which pervaded my bedroom.

“If it had happened at night, I would have been a dead person by now.

“I want to thank all, and all those who called me on phone both within and outside the country.

“Let us appreciate the mercy and kindness of God.

“There are many, we started last year together, but no more today.

“We are not mocking them, but to extol God.

“In fact, that I am able to stand erect is God’s blessing.

“Many of my age group cannot stand well.

“I am not mocking them, but I am thanking God.”

While disclosing that he continued to receive telephone calls from within and outside Nigeria over the incident, the statesman prayed that the New Year would be a glorious one for the country.

He stressed the need for leaders of the party in Lagos State to be united to make it the one that would rule the state in future elections.

Obasanjo stressed the need for party leaders to sink their ego and sacrifice their individual interest for the general interest of the party.

He added: “If only the leaders would sink their ego and regard the party’s interest as supreme and above that of individual, then the party will come out strong and able to wrestle power from the ruling party.”

According to Obasanjo, if the leaders and members of the PDP in Lagos State could unite, they would take over power from the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) .

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Mr. Shelle described Obasanjo’s advice as priceless.

He said: “Baba’s advice is invaluable and we are going back to Lagos as a happy family.

Sports / Newcastle To Buy Osaze To Replace Ba? by fortalex(m): 8:15am On Jan 03, 2013
Newcastle’s boss, Alan Pardew, is reported to be interested in Nigerian international, Peter Odemwingie, in case Demba Ba leaves this month. According to The Sun(London), Newcastle wants Odemwingie to replace Senegalese striker, Ba, who has sparked off interest from a number of clubs including Chelsea.

It’s not the first time Newcastle has been linked with the striker, but at 31, he’s the same age as compatriot, Shola Ameobi, and Peter hardly fits the profile of players Newcastle would want to sign in January. The Sun reported that talks were ongoing with West Brom about Osaze as it seems they may be willing to sell the Nigerian star, who joined West Brom in 2010 from Russian club, Lokomotiv Moscow, and before that he played at Lille with both Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Debuchy.

Odemwinge has a decent record at West Brom having appeared 73 times for them with 30 goals, and this season, while he’s only appeared nine times, he’s still managed to score four goals. And he’s certainly a skillful player who can play as an out and out striker or on one of the wings, so he would fit into Newcastle’s style of play fairly easily. Osaze has played for Nigeria 55 times with nine goals, but has not been included in Nigeria’s squad for the African Cup of Nations, which will start in South Africa later this month.

Politics / Jonathan’s N161.6bn Subsidy Budget Splits Reps by fortalex(m): 7:14am On Dec 14, 2012
President Jonathan’s fresh N161.6bn request to fund fuel subsidy divided the House of Representatives members on Thursday.

Many lawmakers were agitated that Jonathan allegedly took Nigerians for a ride by proposing to spend additional N161.6bn on fuel subsidy in the last two weeks of the year.

They claimed that the President had not explained how he spent the original N888.1bn budgeted for subsidy in 2012.

However, there were lawmakers who argued that the House was to blame for supporting the retention of subsidy.

This group recalled that in January, Jonathan had planned to remove subsidy because of the burden it placed on the resources of government, but the House opposed it.

The House had on Wednesday deferred debate on the supplementary budget (N161.6bn) till Thursday to get briefing from the Committees on Appropriation, Petroleum Resources (Upstream) and Petroleum Resources (Downstream).

But, at the resumed debate on Thursday, the chairmen of the committees spoke in support of the N161.6bn.

The Chairman, Committee on Appropriation, Mr. John Enoh, said it was within the “statutory powers” of the President to request more funds so long as the expenditure was justifiable.

Enoh claimed that the initial N888bn budgeted for subsidy did not capture the “totality of the figure” required for subsidy in 2012.

Besides, he stated that the money included a backlog of subsidy claims from 2011.

“This request of N161bn is in order; the President is in order.

“What is important is where the revenue should come from”, he added.

His counterpart on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Mr. Dakuku Peterside, told the House that of the N888bn, N340bn was paid out as subsidy on petrol, N350bn on kerosene and the balance used to clear outstanding arrears from 2011.

Like Enoh, he said this showed that the N888bn was not enough from the start.

He recalled that subsidy payment rose from N244bn in January 2011 to N2tn in December of the same year.

Of the amount, Peterside stated that petrol alone gulped N1.7tn.

“However, there are problems with the subsidy regime and we must take steps to plug the leakages in the interim until subsidy is removed,” he added.

The Chairman, Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Mr. Ajibola Muraina, also backed the N161.6bn request on the grounds that the problem was not subsidy “but it is how to check the fraud in the system.”

Similarly, the Chairman, House Committee on Rules and Business, Mr. Albert Sam-Tsokwa, supported the bill to the disappointment of some of his colleagues.

He argued, “What Mr. President has done is constitutionally authorised and obligated.

“We cannot stop the bill. We cannot advocate the sustenance of subsidy and at the same time say that we will not appropriate funds for it.”

However, the majority of members kicked against the proposal.

Chairman, House Committee on Drugs, Narcotics and Financial Crimes, Mr. Adams Jagaba, observed that there was no information on actual subsidy requirement.

“This additional N161bn will mean that the subsidy for this year will be over N1tn.

“What is the actual fuel consumption? We are paying money on subsidy, but do we have steady fuel supply?

“We have no reasons to pass this bill”, he said.

The Minority Leader of the House, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, opposed the proposal, saying Jonathan was withholding information from the House.

He noted that if the President acted on a forensic audit report to arrive at the N161.6bn, Jonathan ought to have availed members the details of the report.

“Where is the forensic audit report? Who conducted the audit?

“We want to see the report; we are not just to accept that Mr. President conducted an audit”, Gbajabiamila added.

He said he was aware that the President set up a committee to verify subsidy claims by marketers and not a forensic audit.

Another member, Mr. Jerry Manwe, expressed surprise that the same government that could not release funds for capital projects in 2012 was asking for more money to fund fuel subsidy.

“What happened to the capital projects, which are important to the economic well-being of Nigerians?”, Manwe stated.

In a voice vote, the subsidy budget (N161.6bn) was referred to the committees on finance, appropriation and petroleum resources for further work.

The speaker, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, in his remarks, said government’s decision to seek N161.6bn in December confirmed the position of the House that the country was not facing revenue shortfalls.

Tambuwal spoke further, “They have proven by their action that there is no revenue shortfall.

“We need the details on actual revenue, fuel consumption and justification for approving or disallowing the budget.

“Let the committees go and work on the bill and answer these fundamental issues.

“We have to be discerning in taking our decision.

“We have to wake up and do serious oversight on the actual subsidy requirement.”

Meanwhile, House spokesman, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, hinted on Thursday that the House might extend the implementation of the 2012 capital budget to 2013.

According to him, the budget performance remains “poor and unimpressive.”

He explained that if the budget was not extended, there was the likelihood that funds voted for capital projects “will simply end up in the pockets of some private persons.”

Religion / “We Did Not Build Covenant University From Tithes And Offerings” – Bishop Oyedep by fortalex(m): 4:17pm On Dec 13, 2012
Bishop Oyedepo last night again, floored those accusing him of ripping off church members through tithes and offering to live in affluence while cruising in private jets. He said,”the last time Church paid my salary was December 1987, nobody heard it, not even the Ministers in the church until 1997 and church members didn’t hear this until 2007″.

Again he said: “In January of 1988, my wife asked me of money for feeding and I told her I had give my salary to God, and that was the last time she ever had to ask for feeding til date” He again queried whether anybody has ever been approached by him for any form of financial assistance?

He also shocked the people accusing him and church of using poor people’s money to build universities that themselves can’t afford to send their kid when he said; “Covenant university was built within 7 months without any collection of any one naira tithes and offerings or donation of any kind from anywhere”

Romance / Nigerian Accent Is The 5th Sexiest In The World - CNN by fortalex(m): 4:09pm On Dec 13, 2012
In the unending pursuit of love, or its less eternal surrogate, the right accent can be as attractive as bright eyes, a beaming smile and a parabolic backside.

For world travelers, a far-flung tongue promises the unknown, confirms the known and dispels the thought-we-knew.

Does our highly scientific survey exclude your favorite accent? Vote on our Facebook poll.

But no accent is sexy when it’s strong enough to crush a beer can. Which means not all accents are created equal.

It’s estimated that there are nearly 7,000 languages on earth. That’s nearly 7,000 different ways to traipse clumsily through the English language or to sex it up like a Justin Timberlake song wrapped in chocolate cleavage.

Which begs our list of the world’s sexiest brogues. Some of you may have a legitimate case for inclusion in the top twelve. Others — we’re looking at you, Vietgermans — do not.

Our also-rans included Putonghua (especially when Taiwanese women speak it in gentle tones), Australian (as appealing as warm Foster’s to some, tantalizingly exotic to others) and Japanese (the language of repressed salarymen is also strangely designed for pillow talk).

Because when it comes to accents, there are no absolutes. Except that Bronx English is absolutely horrible.

12. Argentine
The bad news: she finds your bad breath and dirty elbows repulsive. The good news: it sounded totally hot when she told you.

Famous tongues: Fernando Lamas, Gabriela Sabatini

A historical refuge for Spaniards, Italians and Germans, the hyper-libidinous South Ameripean melting pot of Argentina has cultivated a proud, pouty tone. With its own pronunciation of Spanish letters (“ll” sounds like “shh”) and its own words (“you” is “vos”), this is a dialect that’s hard to get. (Or at least plays that way.)

Sounds like: A tightly tuned guitar of G-strings strummed by a lamb shank

11. Thai
He not only floats like a butterfly, he speaks like one, too.

Famous tongues: Tony Jaa, Tata Young

With five tones comprising their native speech, the traffickers of this often fragile accent turn any language into a song of seduction. Thai is largely monosyllabic, so multi-beat foreign words get extra emphases right up until the last letter, which is often left off, leaving the listener wanting more. (Or at least asking “Huh?” lustfully.)

Sounds like: R-rated karaoke

10. Trinidadian
If their accents don’t seduce you, their mon bosoms will.

Famous tongues: Nikki Minaj, Billy Ocean

For fetishists of oddball sexuality, the Caribbean island of Trinidad offers an undulating, melodic gumbo of pan-African, French, Spanish, Creole and Hindi dialects that, when adapted for English, is sex on a pogo stick.

Sounds like: A rubber life raft bobbing on a sea of steel drums

Also on CNN: Asia’s top 5 celeb sex scandals

9. Brazilian Portuguese
She screams, she scores!

Famous tongues: Alice Braga, Anderson Silva

Perhaps owing to its freedom from French influence, the Brazilian Portuguese accent has a more colorful, puerile flair than its coarser European counterpart. The resulting yowl of drawn-out vowels reveals a flirty freedom of spirit that sounds like a permanent vacation.

Sounds like: The near, then far, then near again hum of a low-wattage vacuum cleaner that runs on dance sweat

8. U.S. Southern
Y’all, we love it when y’all call us y’all. Especially when y’all are wearing orange chaps.

Famous tongues: Matthew McConaughy, Britney Spears

There’s nothing sexy about being in a hurry, and you could clock the growth rate of grass with the honeyed drawl — less Tea Party, more “True Blood” — of a Southern beau or belle.

Sounds like: Molasses taking a smoking break

Also on CNN: 15 unusual places to spend a night

7. Oxford British
“Down to your last pair of socks then, what?”

Famous tongues: Hugh Laurie, Sienna Miller

Authoritative. Upright. Erudite. Scholarly. Few accents promise the upward nobility of the Queen’s English. It’s a take on the language that sets hearts devoted to James Bond and Hermione Granger aflutter. And, should the speaker fail to slake your most wanton desires, eh, at least you’ll learn something.

Sounds like: A crisply ironed shirt playing a harp

Where does French land? Who has the sexiest accent? Click on to find out.

6. Irish
Just lay off the leprechaun jokes and you’ll be fine.

Famous tongues: Colin Farrell, Andrea Corr

Valued slightly more in men than in women, the Irish brogue is a lilting, lyrical articulation that’s charming, if not exotic. Fluid and uplifting, it can swing from vulnerable to threatening over the course of a sentence, restoring your faith in the world again … right before it stabs you with a broken bottle top.

Sounds like: A marauding pixie

5. Nigerian
Some Nigerians are actually worth giving your bank account information to.

Famous tongues: King Sunny Adé, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde

Dignified, with just a hint of willful naiveté, the deep, rich “oh’s” and “eh’s” of Naija bend the English language without breaking it, arousing tremors in places other languages can’t reach. Kinda makes the occasional phone scam worth the swindle.

Sounds like: The THX intro with teeth

4. Czech
Smoky eyes? Czech. Intrguing history? Czech. Meat-flavored accent? Czech.

Famous tongues: Petra Nemcova, Jaromír Jágr

Like Russian, without the nettlesome history of brutal, iron-fisted despotism, Czech is a smoky, full-bodied vocal style that goes well with most meats. Murky and mysterious, the Bohemian tone is equal parts carnal desire and carnival roustabout.

Sounds like: Count Dracula, secret agent

3. Spanish
“¿Número tres? ¿Qué clase de idiota eres?” Ah, no one rejects us so hotly.

Famous tongues: Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz

Sensual and beckoning, but with the passion to unleash hell kept just barely restrained, Castilian is like a dialectic Hoover Dam. But then there’s the lisp. Tender, vulnerable and cute as a baby’s hangnail — no one owns the “th” sound formed by tongue and teeth like those who speak the language of Cervantes.

Sounds Like: An outboard motor on Lake Paella

Best of CNN: World’s coolest nationalities

2. French
Even when they pout it sounds good.

Famous tongues: Sophie Marceau, Jean Reno

The demotion of this perennial prizewinner of global brogues to second place may illustrate the declining sexuality of Old World petulance. Still, the come-hither condescension and fiery disinterest of the French tongue remains paradoxically Intimate.

Sounds like: A 30-year-old teenager

1. Italian
Even when bathing in a fountain, a romance language is a romance language.

Famous tongues: Monica Bellucci, Alessandro Del Piero

Raw, unfiltered and as grabby to ears as its president is to rears, the Italian accent is a vowelgasm that reflects the spectrum of Italic experience: the fire of its bellicose beginnings … the romance of the Renaissance … the dysfunction of anything resembling a government since Caesar. Insatiable, predatory and possessive, this is sex as a second language.

What do women want? This is a question that has baffled men
since the beginning of time and we men are no closer to
understanding women than we were when we huddled
around an open fire every night and lived in caves.

If you want to be able to date any girl, no matter how
attractive she is, then you need to cultivate the personality
traits that she finds attractive. Even though some guys are
born with these traits, they can be learned, and since
women are more attracted to a man’s personality and
how he makes her feel than his looks, there is really no obstacle
in your path other than yourself.

Computers / How To Create A Wireless Ad Hoc Network by fortalex(m): 1:25am On Aug 19, 2012
I am going to show how to create a wireless ad hoc network without using a router. This network can also be used for sharing files and multimedia between two devices but before starting lets see the two basic questions:

What is wireless ad hoc network?

In simple terms it means connecting laptops, desktops or any wifi enabled device with wireless network without using wifi router.

What is the use of it?

It is really helpful if you have a regular modem but no wifi router and your two devices have wifi capabilities.

Now read carefully.

1. Make Sure you have internet connectivity on the device (laptop) through a wired or USB connection. Now click on network icon on right hand side on bottom of the screen (Taskbar) and then click on open network and sharing center.

or

Click on the Start button (windows flag) at extreme lower left hand side corner, then click on control panel and once in control panel click on network and sharing center.

2. Click on setup a new connection or network.

3. A new windows will pop up. In that window, scroll down and click on set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network and press next, and once again press next.

4. You will see some boxes wherein the first box you have to enter any desired network name. It can be anything but don't forget it th name. Leave the security type by default at WPA2-Personal. In the second box type your desired password but should not be less than 8 characters. If you want to save the network to use it again later then check the box in front of Save this network and press next.

5. A final window will show you wireless network name and other information. If you see the option of Turn on internet connection sharing Make sure You click it and press close.

6. Now go to other device which you want to connect with this network. Choose the wireless network name (SSID) and enter the password when prompted and that's how easy it is to create an ad hoc netork without using a router

Now you will be able to use internet on more than 1 device without wires.

Note: Make sure the device on which you are creating network should be connected with internet with a wired connection or with any other kind of internet except wireless network, otherwise you will be able to broadcast signal but without internet.
Romance / Findings Of Latest Research On Love by fortalex(m): 11:55pm On Aug 18, 2012
The latest research has revealed that it takes only one fifth of a second for someone to fall in love. This is the so called love at first sight. The research has revealed that when one falls on love that person feels the same euphoria felt in case he or she took cocaine. That's not all; when you fall in love you it also affects the intellectual areas of the brain.

It has also been found that 12 areas of brain work in combination to produce chemicals that control the euphoria. The chemicals include dopamine, adrenalin, oxytocin and vasopression. Sophisticated cognitive functions are also affected by the feeling of love. They include mental representation, body image and metaphors.

Findings also create a question whether it is the heart or the brain that falls in love. According to the researchers it is the brain that makes the major contribution but heart also is involved. The reason is that the process of falling in love goes from brain to heart and also it works upward from heart to brain.

Activation of some parts of the brain could generate certain stimulations to the heart and also to the butterflies in the stomach. Some of the feelings we get as manifestations of the heart may originate in the brain.

It has also been found that increased blood flow to the nerve growth factor (NGF) is also noticed when people fall in love. If you examine that of a couple who have just fallen in love, you will find that it is increased significantly. NGF factor plays an important function in the social chemistry of a person. This is why it is involved in love at first sight. This means falling in love is scientific.

Findings of this research could be used in a big way in mental health research because in case the one who falls in love doesn't get the expected response the emotional distress and depression that sets in may need to be looked after. By understanding the areas of brain that are affected by love, the doctors could understand the pains patients undergo due to stress.

The study also has revealed that different types of love originate from different areas of the brain. For instance, the unconditional love that prevails between a mother and a child is sparked by the middle portion of the brain among others. Reward part of the brain is the one that sparks passionate love.

Love is an emotional feeling that involves chemical reactions that take place in the brain. However, heart is also involved with it. It involves the blood flow and in real sense love changes the way the whole body works.
Romance / How Do You Tell A Woman You Still Love Her When She Has Broken Up With You? by fortalex(m): 11:36pm On Aug 18, 2012
It's kind of peculiar how people will expect that their deep feelings of love will just disappear the moment that a relationship dissolves. You know better than that. When you really feel that way about someone, it does not just go away. It lingers. It's still there and you know it. You know it because of the way that you feel when you hear her name. You know it because of the way that you feel when you hear her favorite song come on the radio. You even know it when you see her walking by and it feels like your heart is breaking.

How do you tell a woman you still love her when she is the one who ended the relationship with you? smiley cool
Romance / Does Age Gap Matter In A Relationship? by fortalex(m): 4:27am On Aug 15, 2012
In any mature relationship, the highest priority tends to be how compatible we are with our mate.

Everyone wants to have a partner that makes them feel understood, appreciated and cared for. And it sometimes happens that you find this kind of compatibility with a person you never would have expected. For example, what if the person you love is a decade or two older (or younger) than you are?

While we may think "love conquers all" there are some common issues that couples with wide age gaps face.

Statistics on modern relationships have shown that the majority of people partner with someone who is within three to five years of their own age.

But as our society has become more accepting, we have begun to see ever-increasing age gaps in relationships. It's not uncommon now to see partners with an age difference of ten to fifteen years or even more.

Romance / Why Do Girls Cheat On Guys? by fortalex(m): 4:03am On Aug 15, 2012
Just when you thought that it was just the men who were masters in secrecy, think again. Women these days know how to play the cheating game, at times even more effectively than their boyfriends. By society's standards, women aren't viewed as the cheaters in the relationship, and it hardly elicits any negative attention if they do.

At some point, the blame would still be placed on the ex-lover. Though men are still more prone to actually being unfaithful to their girlfriends, there's no doubt that, as human beings, even women are susceptible to trying new things. This includes new men in their lives, even while still being in a relationship.

Men would often see the women as innocent and good natured, but are there any reasons as to why they would even begin to think about cheating on their boyfriends?

Romance / Who Has The Most Difficult Life? Men Or Women? by fortalex(m): 11:13pm On Aug 12, 2012
The other day I got into a debate (which got pretty heated) with a female friend over which gender has the hardest life.

Naturally since she's a woman she'll endlessly rant about how women definitely have things the toughest, without any claims to back that up other than childbirth.

Now I feel like mentioning childbirth is unfair, considering that a lot of women actually WANT to have big, happy families and also because having a child isn't necessarily mandatory to living life. I'm not saying that women have it easy, but the way she just downplayed the way things are for men led me to assume that many other women think like that as well.

Business / How Secure Is Your Source Of Income? by fortalex(m): 5:47pm On Aug 12, 2012
After many years of hard work, you find yourself at the top of your field. All your income is riding on one customer, one job, or one avenue of revenue. Does this sound like your situation? If you answer yes, then you must consider creating multiple streams of income.

What if one day, unexpectedly, you are “down sized”, “cut loose”, “let go”. Call it what you like, but you find yourself without a job, without income. I know how it feels, it happened to me.

First, you panic, then you get really mad and finally you settle down and realize you better do something and do it fast. For many, this has been a very real life experience, one that we wish never occurred.

Most people find it difficult at best, to find a job that will replace the income they had and changing careers is very frightening. So what do you do? You might find another job that you feel is suitable, but in the long term, it is not always, what you thought it was going to be.

What about starting your own business? This seems to be the next logical, and in most cases, the better choice.

Multiple streams of income are imperative, not just for survival, but in order to secure your future. So start now, make the decision that you will develop other ways of producing income for you and your family.

You cannot let a bad situation get you down and keep you on the ground. You must make a decision to get up and turn things around. Without action, nothing changes.

Whatever you choose to do, whether a home based business or a new job and career, you must do it with all your might.
