Nairaland / General / Atiku Quickly Returns To Nigeria After Failing To Secure US Department Of Justic by ganiyunelson(m): 10:26pm On Dec 01, 2018
A group, Initiative To Save Democracy has said that it has credible information that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar has returned to Nigeria after failing to secure assurances from the US Department of Justice that he will not be arrested if he sets his foot into the soil of the United State.

TheCable had reported exclusively that the Waziri Adamawa secured a US visa and had travelled to the United Kingdom from where he will fly into the United state where he had not been able to step foot for more than 13 years.

But the group in a statement signed by its president, Akinloye James said Atiku had on Thursday travelled to the United Kingdom after securing a United States Visa from where he hopes to travel to the United State.

“His mission in the United Kingdom is to get the British Government to help him secure the assurances of the United States Department of Justice that he will not be arrested upon setting foot in US soil. But the British government is reported to have informed Abubakar that the US Department of Justice has made it clear that it cannot guarantee he will not be arrested.”

Atiku has refused to travel to the United States since the case of money laundering allegation involving him and a US congressman, Williams Jefferson came to limelight.

His counterpart in the United State, Williams Jefferson has already served jail term and made to refund part of the money traced to him for money laundering, but Atiku has since been walking free even though he has been unable to set foot in the US.

Having failed to secure the assurances of the British government and fearing that he may be arrested by the International Police (InterPol), Atiku quickly returned to Nigeria to forestall any possible arrest.

Paul Ibe, Head of the Atiku Media Office who has been speaking on behalf of the PDP presidential candidate prior to appointing a spokesman for his campaign tweeted a while ago that Atiku has since returned to Abuja.

“HE @atiku embarked on a private visit to the United Kingdom on Thursday shortly after the inauguration of his Presidential Campaign Council. He has since returned back to Abuja,” I’ve said in the tweet.

His tweet counters report by TheCable that Atiku will spend sometime in the United Kingdom before traveling to the United State.

“Report that Atiku obtained US Visa and travelled to the UK may be true, but the part that he would be traveling to the US is completely false,” Mr James said.
Nairaland / General / Press Release By The Nigerian Army Following Recent Attacks On Military Locatio by ganiyunelson(m): 9:44pm On Nov 28, 2018
1. Gentlemen of the press, in continuation with our resolve to keep Nigerians well informed of the activities of the Nigerian Army, I will be briefing you on the recent happenings in the North East of Nigeria. In the recent weeks, Nigerian troops deployed in the North East of Nigeria under Operation LAFIYA DOLE have come under series of attacks by large numbers of Boko Haram Terrorists. Specifically, the Nigerian Army troops deployed at KUKAWA, NGOSHE, KARETO and GAJIRAM came under attack at different times within a 2 week period from 2 – 17th November 2018. Each of these incidents were successfully repelled and several members of the terrorists were killed. However, a total of 16 personnel were killed in the course of these attacks while 12 soldiers were wounded in action and are receiving treatment at our military medical facilities.
2. As you are all aware, Nigeria is contributing troops to the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) which has its headquarters in N’djamena, in the Republic of Chad. One of the Nigerian battalions (157 TF Bn), deployed under the auspices of the MNJTF was attacked at their Base on the outskirts of a town called METELE on 18th November 2018. During the attack, the troops were forced to withdraw and several casualties were recorded. As at date 23 personnel were killed in action and 31 personnel were wounded in action and have been evacuated to several medical hospitals within Borno State. The Nigerian Army commiserates with the MNJTF at this difficult time and wishes to state that all necessary support will be rendered to the MNJTF to reverse this resurgence of the Boko Haram Terrorists.
3. The Nigerian Army wishes to further commiserate with the families of the gallant officers and soldiers that paid the supreme price in the course of defending their fatherland. The sacrifices of these fallen heroes will not be in vain. We also wish all those wounded in action speedy recovery and assure them of our continued support and care.
4. The incident of 18th November 2018, happened at a time when the Nigerian Army was planning to hold the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference for 2018 in Benin City, Edo State. On account of this incident, the Conference had to be moved from Benin City to Maiduguri to enable the Nigerian Army leadership get closer to the troops on the ground and to better appraise our activities, assess our performance and identify our shortcomings as an Army.
5. We are also sensitive to the fact that the nation is approaching an election year and thus we must be prepared to assist in providing security for the peaceful conduct of elections. Accordingly, the theme for this year’s annual conference is aptly titled, “Optimizing the Operational Efficiency of the Nigerian Army Towards Safeguarding Democracy and National Security in Nigeria”. Let me at this juncture assure all Nigerians and indeed the international community that the NA will work optimally, in conjunction with other security agencies to provide a secure environment for peace and unity in Nigeria.
6. Since 2015, the Nigerian Army in conjunction with sister services and other security agencies have systematically degraded the capabilities and capacity of Boko Haram terrorists and many successes were achieved. However, in the last 2 – 3 months, we have noticed daring moves by the terrorists, increased use of drones against our defensive positions and infusion of foreign fighters in their ranks. These potent threats require us to continually review our operations.
7. At this point permit me to implore all of us to spare a thought for the brave men and women of the Nigerian Army who paid the supreme price for the security of Nigeria. The Nigerian Army will continue to support the families of these brave officers and soldiers and pray that their souls rest in perfect peace. Let us also not forget the men, women and children who have been killed or affected by the atrocities of the terrorists. It is for their sake that this war against terror must be won.
8. The Nigerian Army wishes to express its gratitude to the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) who has visited the troops including some of the wounded officers and soldiers in the hospitals. We also thank His Excellency the Executive Governor and good people of Borno State who have taken the brunt of the nefarious activities of the Boko Haram terrorists. Our gratitude also goes to the Honourable Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Service Chiefs, who have all shown concern and visited the troops. The Nigerian Army also thanks all patriotic and concerned Nigerians who have sent in messages of goodwill and support for the Nigerian Army.
9. Finally, the Nigerian Army, wishes to reiterate and pledge its total commitment to the defence of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We wish to reassure all Nigerians of the commitment of the Nigerian Army to defend our country at all costs. We shall also continue to remain apolitical, professional and responsive in the discharge of our constitutional roles.

Politics / Atiku Vs Pmb In Northeast by ganiyunelson(m): 6:48am On Oct 23, 2018
SHORT MEMO TO ALL NORTHEAST NIGERIA:
ATIKU'S vz BUHARI'S ACHIEVEMENTs IN NORTHEAST NIGERIA
Atiku's "performance" in the Northeast as Vice President for 8 years is as follows:
1. American University of Nigeria (private ownership)
2. AUN Hotels (private ownership)
3. ABTI Printing Press (private ownership)
4. ABTI Schools (private ownership)
5.Gotel Radio/FM/TV (private ownership)
6.Rigo Gado Animal Feeds (private ownership)
7. Atiku Farms (private ownership)
8. ADAMA Beverages Ltd - makers of FARO bottled water and fruit juices (private ownership)
9. Procurement of private jets (private ownership)
Atiku has done very well for himself during his "public service" with these personal investments (in the Northeast alone). When they tell you that Atiku Abubakar is a man of "ideas" and "solutions", that's exactly what they mean. He has ideas and solutions on how to make himself wealthy!
President Buhari's performance in the Northeast in just 3 years (2015 - 2018) is as follows:
1. Reconstruction of Gombe - Yola road (public ownership)
2. Rehabilitation of Bauchi - Gombe road (public ownership)
3.Reconstruction of Gombe - Biu road (public ownership)
4. Completion of Kano - Maiduguri expressway project (public ownership)
5. Reconstruction of Numan - Jalingo road (public ownership)
6. Rehabilitation of Mayo Belwa - Toungo road (public ownership)
6. Revival of the gigantic Mambilla hydroelectric dam in Taraba State that was abandoned for 45 years (public ownership)
7. Approval for the establishment of the Northeast Development Commission (public ownership)
8. Seizure of territory from Boko Haram insurgents and the ongoing return of IDPs to their rescued communities
9. The return of the search for oil in Bauchi State through Gombe State and the Lake Chad region (public ownership)
10. Recent approval of the sum of 612 million naira for the rehabilitation/completion of Cham dam in Gombe State (public ownership)
11. Ongoing reconstruction of the Yola to Jada road (Atiku's hometown) at the sum of 22.6 billion naira (public ownership)
12. Setting up of a new Nigerian Air Force Base in Bauchi (public ownership)
13. Proposal to revive the old Bauchi - Gombe - Yola railways (public ownership)
The difference is absolutely clear: Vice President Atiku Abubakar used PUBLIC SERVICE to set up and enhance his PERSONAL SERVICE for PERSONAL GAINS while President Buhari is using PUBLIC SERVICE to set up PUBLIC UTILITIES for PUBLIC GAINS! So, whenever you hear them saying Buhari has no "ideas" and "solutions", they actually mean to tell you that Buhari only has the ideas and solutions of public service for everybody's benefit!
Therefore, will any sane, morally upright and patriotic Northeasterner choose Vice President Atiku Abubakar over President Muhammadu Buhari? No way! Northeasterners know those who truly love them and those who are simply using them for personal business profits!

Nairaland / General / NLC Miss It All Need Calloff The Unrealistic Strike by ganiyunelson(m): 10:57am On Sep 30, 2018
NLC missed the point. Here are areas it should take on the government that have more effects on workers and the rest of Nigerians.

1- Yes workers need salary increase but NLC should press more on regular payment of salaries for Nigerian workers. Only FG and few states are paying salaries regularly in Nigeria.

2- Pension and gratuity payments are unduly delayed if paid at all. That is beside being too little for retirees to make a meaningful living after work. I have seen a retired CEO of government agency that is unable to buy sallah ram because his entilements were not paid 11 months after leaving service.

3- Discrimination in employment. Only sons and daughters of the elite get employed. These days government employment are done in secrecy to children of politicians and elite who hardly need any employment in the first place. Why will sons of say Atiku,Saraki,Sultan and Emir of Kano snatch jobs available for the poor? Do they honestly need the jobs? But NLC leadership will look the other way because they are also carried along in the evil scheme.

4- Salary dichotomy among government agencies. Why should NNPC,CBN,FIRS,NPA and others take 300℅ more than what their counterparts take in ministries and non juicy MDAs?

5- Taxation- even the little workers received as salaries are heavily taxes apart from taxes they paid as VAT while buying food and fuels in the market.

6- Provision of basic needs of life in affordable transport, housing, education, health care, water, electricity, security and roads.

These may take long to come but are more meaningful demands than mere salary increment that will be rubbished by inflation.

Why not wait till After September Salary is been paid before declaring the nonsense strike, we masses depend on monthly salary to survive and most Labour leader have enough to survive even if the strike last longer. Now bank is not working and salary is withhold. ATM not effective.
